So where are the temples you want me to ask it your dna communes with the apple i can’t move you have activated it the final journey commences no it’s the only way to fix this but the animus did this to it am i the expert or not do it no
I remember 10 years ago the height of my excitement for this series of games was probably around like 2011 and 2012. i’d always loved assassin’s creed it was like the most important thing to me as a kid but revelations and then the lead up to ac3 was some of the most hyped i’ve
Ever been obviously you probably know how i feel about 83 but revelations delivered in every conceivable way for me i still remember that announcement i still remember the cryptic posts and images on their facebook page i remember being on forums speculating about what was coming the setting the hagia sofia and then
We got this both an older ezio and altair front and center i don’t think i have the words to describe how giddy this made me as a kid i was 13 nearly 14 and these games were quite literally my life it’s just that simple to see this character we’d spend
Two games with alongside the protagonist of the one i originally fell in love with i was absolutely beside myself with excitement assassins creed revelations a game originally coming to the ds in the form of ac lost legacy the turnaround for revelations was honestly probably more crazy than brotherhood’s it was
Turned from a ds game into a full console game in mere months with the addition of actually playing as altair left up until pretty last minute relatively speaking i say more crazy because i mean they weren’t just using assets from 82 and brotherhood in this
Rome was new for sure but you could see a lot of ac2 stuff in it constantinople was all new and that’s impressive revelations was a new team after brotherhood was complete with montreal 2 still working on 83 montreal 1 the team behind ac 1 2 and brotherhood moved to
Work on a next-gen title which would become assassin’s creed unity so while revelations was being made by montreal 3 the guys who made brotherhood were already working on unity how wild is that all the way back in 2011 in the hype for revelations in the aftermath of
Brotherhood before we even knew of ac3 or before black flag was even conceived unity was already being made it’s just so crazy to me how the development of these games worked the most memorable from this team however for me is the man himself darby mcdevitt the lead
Scriptwriter and the man who crafted the story we see take place in revelations a story i would say is not only the greatest assassin’s creed story ever told but simply one of the greatest video game stories out there it’s so special to me i fondly remember the day
This game came out a dreary tuesday in november of 2011. i remember the whole school day i remember getting the text from my mum saying my animus edition of revelations have been delivered and i remember getting home and opening it up hey viewers um i’m here um assassin’s creed revelations
Um i was so excited and then i hopped into the game returning to a world i love to see where the story went next what would happen to desmond where were they taking ezio and how exactly did altair play into this so many questions with a mind-blowing journey ahead of me
For three decades the auditory are not dead i’m still here ezio auditory i have served the memory of my father and my brothers it’s been over ten years since i watched my father and brothers die ten years hunting the men responsible and fought for those who have suffered the
Pain of injustice the liberation of roma has begun stand with me against deborah i do not regret those years but it is time to live for myself and let them go let go of all of this welcome to constantine the crossroads of the world altair was a
Profound man and a prolific writer he built this place as a repository for all his wisdom no man should pass from this world without knowing some kindness go be with your family and live well he built us up and set us free don’t you ever stop howling
Then you are doubly wretched for you have been living alive you’re a broken man your mind is broken you held fire in your hand old man it should have been destroyed finish what you started until your ancestor has nothing left to show you if you respect
Life and liberty join our cause fight to restore peace to these troubled times that is a sink nexus brothers sisters a whole city rises against us he was no sorcerer just an ordinary man in command of illusions while yusuf’s murderer waits and watches from the arsenal laughing you corrupted everything we stand for
And lost everything we gave i heard your name once before desmond a long time ago and now it lingers in my mind like an image from an old dream i do not know where you are or by what means you can hear me but i know you are listening
I have lived my life as best i could not knowing its purpose but drawn forward like a moth to a distant moon and here at last i discover a strange truth but i am only a conduit for a message that eludes my understanding who are we who have been so blessed
To share our stories like this to speak across centuries what is the man but the some of his memories we are the stories we live the tales we tell ourselves fight with me and show him what it means to cross the assassins when i was very young
I was foolish enough to believe that our creed would bring an end to all these conflicts but where does one end and the next begin if only i possess the humility to say to myself i have seen enough for one life i have done my power ever since i was
Young they never stopped saying it you are an assassin you are an assassin and this is our creed i have seen enough for one life the end of an era now let me set up what this replay was like for me as it wasn’t exactly a normal replay of a beloved game i’ve
Taken some time away from assassin’s creed this past year for good reason i thought it was the right thing to do it’s what i wanted to do if you’re totally unaware i’m sure i’ll have linked resources in the description and pinned comments so you can get yourselves caught up in more detail but
Long story short ubisoft was the center of a lot of sexual harassment and abuse claims too much to just dismiss it as hearsay like a lot of people want to do it was and is staggering just how many people have been hurt by the way this company treats people it hurt me
Specifically as a lot of people i looked up to have personally spoken to were involved i decided six months ago i no longer wanted to buy future assassins creed games and that i would completely cut myself off from all things ubisoft entirely but i always felt me not
Playing these much older games was not really coming from a holy logical place it was emotional for me after feeling somewhat let down and upset by what had been happening within ubisoft i simply didn’t want anything to do with the company which is why i decided to split
Off entirely after taking some time to heal from that as you have to understand this was incredibly close to home for me i decided that yes i still plan not to buy future products from this company not a hard choice given they don’t exactly make games for me anymore but
Also because i simply don’t want to continue supporting this company monetarily at least until they fix the deep rooted issues they have that said it doesn’t mean i can’t revisit old favorites give props to the dev teams that works on games that i love and speak highly of the good old days what
You do is up to you but this is what i felt works for me revelations has a core theme of letting go and moving forward and of reflection on your past this made it the perfect game for me to return to the good old days of assassin’s creed with it allowed
Me to come to terms with the years i spent creating solely assassin’s creed content and be content with that it helped me to feel happy with my overall decision to stop following future assassins creed games because they’re not for me and because they’re made by a company i’d rather not support the
Conversation between ezio and sophia towards the end of the game sums it up perfectly i do not regret those years but it is time to live for myself and let them go let go of all of this i need to let go for myself my career and for my conscience and hopefully
I won’t fall far but also like ezio said i will not forget those years and that’s why i decided to make this video revelations opens with the classic assassin’s creed recap cut scene which i miss so much making every entry feel like the newest in a line of one
Continuous story like i described with the brotherhood retrospective it’s like the newest season of your favorite television show this one’s narrated by subject 16 which i really like it fits as desmond is now in a coma his mind is scrambled and his memories are merging he needs 16 to guide him through the
Back end of the animus and this opening story recap embodies that in a really concise and cryptic way 16 is guiding desmond back through his own memories before he wakes up on animus island which is our hub for revelations modern day in revelations is an interesting one
Because although seeming to take a back seat it also features heavily and has some of the hardest hitting story elements of the franchise but we’ll get into those moments a little later in the video when they’re relevant desmond wakes up looking like an adam sandler knockoff and meets subject 16 for the
Very first time just walk right past me 16 no they didn’t tell you my name oh god damn it i’m still in the animus quite a shock you suffered out there rebecca get me out of here they can’t help you desmond you’re a broken man your mind it’s broken broken Look at me now let’s talk buddy now this scene always confused me as a kid still does and that’s because i always felt that 16 was a very cryptic character someone shrouded in complete mystery and when desmond meets him he exclaims 16. that was my desmond impression i’m sorry
Then gets pissed he’s still in the animus and asks to be removed like dude 16 is right there how are you not more confused intrigued excited shocked to finally meet this man who’s been leaving clues for you for the past few months it just seems so strange to me that this
Climactic meeting of subject 16 and subject 17 isn’t more climactic it could of course be because desmond already feels so familiar with 16 after being so closely tied to him and reliving his memories and glyphs things in the animus but we’re never really told that and our perception is
That he’s this enigmatic figure so it always comes across as odd to me they also changed his voice actor in this game as they did with a certain other character we’ll get onto it and they give us 16’s name which we’ll get to that later too clay explains desmond’s
Situation and what we need to do find a sync nexus relive ezio’s memories and by extension altairs until they have nothing left to show us find the sync nexus where the memories and lives converge before heading into the big memory gate however you get this piece of dialogue from sean rebecca and
William miles desmond’s father now played by john de lancie who does a superb job and is also a highlight of ac3 as much as i’m not a fan of that game my god john de lancie nails it as william miles then he was replaced for whoever this is who the [ __ ] are you
Does the name william miles ring a bell he’s not credited and the internet seems to believe it is just john de lancie even though he sounds like he’s on a ton of muscle relaxants or something i like these little snippets of conversation between the crew it’s like eavesdropping
On things you aren’t really supposed to hear and it’s all very genuine their concern for desmond why he’s special how his dad feels about the apple the fact shawn feels somewhat betrayed by desmond after he killed lucy there’s a lot of great character moments in there despite being incredibly miserable if you just
Wandered into the animus gate and they’re very minor i think this is something that derby does really nicely whenever he’s writing you get these very minor moments very low-key dialogue sections that are well placed and while they seem minor they do wonders to pad out character and that’s exactly what
These little sections do we do also get little conclusions to the whole lucy debacle from the end of brotherhood it’s like confirmed that she’s dead and it’s confirmed that desmond did it and he also says that juno made him although they really dropped a bombshell that
We’ll get to later and how that one rocked the ac community back in early 2012 it was a wild time i’ll tell you that heading through the gates on animus island we are greeted with the greatest damn opening in video game history and no i’m not exaggerating that’s how i
Feel i’ve been toying with just letting it play not editing it at all should we just watch the whole intro it’ll set the mood right [ __ ] it let’s do it laudia my dearest sister i have been in akra a week now safe and in high spirits but prepared for the worst
The men and women who have fed and sheltered me here also give me warning that the road to massiaf is overrun by mercenaries and bandits not native to this land what this could mean i dread to guess when i first set out from roma ten months ago i did so with a single
Purpose to discover what our father did not in a letter written the year before my birth he makes mention of a library hidden beneath the stones of martial castle a sanctum full of invaluable wisdom so what will i find when i arrive there who will greet me
A host of eager templars as i fear most strongly or nothing but the whistling of a cold and lonely wind massage has not been home to the assassins for almost 300 years now can we still claim it for our own are we welcome there ah i’m wary of this fight claudia
Not because i am tired but because our struggle seems to move in one direction only towards chaos today i have more questions than answers This is why i’ve come so far to find clarity to find the wisdom left behind by the great of the year so that i may better understand the purpose of our fight and my place in it [Applause] should anything happen to me claudia should my skills fail me or my ambition
Lead me astray do not seek retribution or revenge in my memory but fight to continue the search for truth so that all may benefit my story is one of many thousands and the world will not suffer if it ends too soon how god damn incredible is that man
Every single time it gets me good the music is impeccable that piece called assassin’s creed theme on the official soundtrack should have become the assassin’s creed theme not ezio’s family that’s so dumb i still can’t get over it the cinematography is gorgeous seeing ezio arriving in massa fighting the army
Of templars single-handedly with the only thing stopping him being the ghost of altair distracting him it’s [ __ ] amazing going up to the top of that tower from ac1 walking along the platforms he jumps down from in ac1 these beautiful parallels of ezio walking to the edge to be hanged as
Altair walks to leap down the eagle flying overhead all while we have ezio’s incredible letter to claudia in the form of a monologue backing this scene the most perfect and wise assassin words my story is one of many thousands and the world will not suffer if it ends too
Soon ezio seeing himself as just one among so many that’s a true assassin he’s no more important than the men and women he fights to protect the freedom of everybody is equal it’s assassin 101 but it’s just told in such a beautifully meaningful character way that fleshes
Out ezio’s mindset in this era of his life post brotherhood coming out of the cutscene we’re able to finally dive into gameplay climbing the outer areas of massaf castle to retrieve our weapons climbing to areas never visited in ac1 makes ezio’s journey here feel untethered and new uncharted territory
As we scale to the very top of the highest part of the castle with the snow falling all around ezio the vibes are immaculate taking time to just see ezio in massiaf is wild this game is actively delving into its past it’s not running or hiding from it like we see in later
Entries of assassin’s creed it uses its past as a center plot point it’s not a secret note that you can find in a cave alluding to massiaf castle it’s a central plot point that ezio from ac2 and brotherhood is travelling to massiaf from ac1 the original seat of power for
The assassins in order to find wisdom left behind by the main protagonist of the first assassin’s creed game just take a second to wrap your head around that imagine that happening in modern assassin’s creed it just doesn’t the very closest you get is bayek’s letter in valhalla which pales in comparison to revelations
Bike’s letter while cool to hear bike back doesn’t play into the modern day story doesn’t play into abel’s story is completely missable nobody can even read it in the story and has zero impact on anything actually happening put that up against ezio actively traveling to massab to enter an ancient library that
Was built by altair so he could fulfill the wishes his father had before he was even born also that desmond can find a sync nexus and understand his greater purpose in the 2012 plot line like dude this is the blueprint for assassin’s creed stories it’s here it exists and
They still [ __ ] it up later down the line guys you already did it you nailed it it’s here just follow the steps and do it again but before this video becomes of a hula ruined me maybe it’s time to get back on track a really cool feature is that in
The actual main bit of the castle from ac one ammo limb study you can actually activate these little bits around the room to see altair’s ghost from later memories him picking up almorling’s body from the second key memory and him diving through the glass in the third
Key memory it’s a nice little detail heading through massive village after all this time is just another wonderful hit of nostalgia the streets so often walked in ac one as you headed from the castle to the next city to take out your target ezio was now walking hundreds of
Years later oh god it gives me goosebumps this leads into the set piece with the characters i mean this whole opening is just fantastic from wandering massive castle to tailing the streets of massaya village to this high action set piece that’s so very ezio as he holds
Onto the rope on the back of the carriage hijacks one himself knocks everyone off the road and is eventually flung down a [ __ ] cliff to emerge relatively unscathed to continue tracking his target this whole sequence to me sets up who ezio is in this game he’s an assassin through and through in
His wisdom in his calculated approach to kill but he’s very clearly disillusioned with the creed at this point he was always one for action-packed sequences but revelations i always felt takes it in a new direction he’s old kind of jaded and sees some aspects of the creators unnecessary perhaps
Contradictory something we see played into later and there’s some important bits to discuss there but we’ll get to that later down the line when it comes up trust me right this way ezio nowhere left to run now not for me and not for you kill that dog drop him down
What a [ __ ] line man ezio is just non-stop perfection in this game i swear to god now the conversation we get here with leandros is super interesting not only do we get the classic prague which again shows ezio’s disillusionment to the creed in some ways we also get
Information about the grand temple which would become relevant in assassin’s creed 3 and is mentioned quite frequently in this game as well we take a book from the andros the secret crusade by nicolo polo a book you can actually buy it tells the entire history of altair as retold by nicolo polo upon
His journey to massaf in 1257 where he subsequently picked up the massive keys and the codex pages we see collected by the assassins in assassin’s creed 2. one of my favorite things however about this book is that ezio actually read the whole thing on his way to constantinople
If you read the book that was actually put out by ubisoft it has a prologue and an epilogue that bookend the actual writings of nicolo polo it details a man on a ship reading the book and i remember reading this leading up to revelations and when i finished the book
I had goosebumps man let me read you this final excerpt from the book after niccolo’s story is done from above him on deck the assassin heard the sounds of a commotion the familiar drumming of feat that accompanies the approach to land crew members rushing from their posts to
Prowl shimmying up the rigging and hanging off ropes shielding their eyes to stare long and hard at the shimmering harbours towards which they were sailing anticipating adventures ahead the assassin too had adventures ahead of him of course his would likely be markedly different from the escapades fondly
Imagined by the crew which no doubt consisted primarily of visiting taverns and consorting with [ __ ] the assassin almost envied them in the simplicity of their endeavors his task would be far more complicated he closed nicolo’s journal and pushed the book away from him on the desk his fingers running
Across the aging cover mulling over what he had just learned the full significance of which he knew would take time to make himself known and then with a deep breath he stood pulled on his robe secured the mechanism of his blade to his wrist and pulled up his cow next
He opened the hatch of his quarters to appear on deck where he too shielded his eyes to cast his gaze upon the harbour as the ship sliced through the sparkling water towards it people gathered there already ready to welcome them ezio had arrived in the great city he was in constantinople
Imagine reading that as a 14 year old hype to [ __ ] for revelations realizing the entire story i just read about altair ezio had canonically read on his journey to constantinople honestly man it’s so [ __ ] cool upon arriving in constantinople we get to hear one of ezio’s letters to claudia
Each memory sequence opens with one of these and it’s really a wonderful way to not only get an insight into seo’s current mental state but to set the tone for the sequence to come whether tense or relaxed as well as showing that claudia and those in rome are still
Relevant and of importance to ezio even if they don’t make a direct appearance in revelations i’ll talk about some of the specific letters i love as and when they happen within the story a magnificent site it is a work in progress no city on eoropa has a skyline quite like this
Well to be precise that is europa that is asia ah some borders even the ottomans cannot move the arrival of the dock sets up basically all three of the main ally characters in revelations first suleiman prince suleiman unknown to us at this point a charismatic character with a
Sharp mind someone to match even ezio someone who clearly would become a strong leader if given the chance which of course if you know history he eventually did we’re also briefly introduced to sofia although aren’t given a chance to speak with her just yet and then we meet the man himself
Yusuf tazeem istanbul kardashian unless the legend is alive you are the man i long to meet renowned master and mentor it’s your auditory day la la la spreco forgive me i have a hard time remembering that italian gibberish da firenze the city where i was born ah yes so
By your custom i would be yusuf kazim the istanbul i like that istanbul yet another name for the city ebbet it’s a local favorite come mentor all three characters are tremendous and i’m sure i’ll go into more depth with each of them as and when they become a focus but
I love them so much all three play different yet integral roles in the story in such a meaningful and interesting way yusuf of course is the first one we get to know as the leader of the brotherhood in constantinople a man with a lot to teach ezio as well as
A lot to learn too they balance each other out quite nicely and although ezio is of course his superior you never feel like there’s not mutual respect and i really like that dynamic the game now takes us on a walk around constantinople while ezio and yusuf discuss the assassin templar struggle the current
State of politics and the library in massiaf establishing all three core plot elements the game will explore moving forward using our three major characters in yusuf for the assassin templar storyline sophia for the massiaf keys and suleiman for the political struggle we’re introduced to a few major
Components of the game in this section too for starters the idea that both guard factions will fight each other the ottomans and the byzantines which is an interesting dynamic not one we’ve had in other ac games before the two sets of factions are actively fighting one another so running one set into another
If you’re being chased can stop them from coming after you we meet the assassins at the headquarters gear ourselves up a bit at the blacksmith which is the same as brotherhood i don’t really need to re-explain how shops work i did in 82’s retrospective and it’s the same essentially armor and weapons which
Slowly increase in stock and stats as you progress and then we get ourselves the hook blade this game’s gimmick if you want to call it that it’s a cool tool but i do feel it somewhat takes away from your own agency in parkour as most of the time it
Snaps you onto ledges it can be hard to cancel from which is irritating although it does help you speed up an elf slower ezio it’s also really satisfying when you use it to scale something i don’t know why the sounds and the way it snaps onto a ledge just gives me shots of
Serotonin using the hook blade to reach the top of the galata tower with yusuf we get a nice look over our city our home for revelations and what a fine place to call home it is welcome to constantine the crossroads of the world many generations of men have ruled the
City but they have never subdued her she always bounces back it seems a fine place to call home It is raise you to the bottom the city of constantinople is an odd one it’s one i always seem to forget in the sense that nothing really stands out about it whereas rome has its clear districts florence and venice has its obvious landmarks or ac-1 has its cities with distinctive color gradings
Constantinople doesn’t do anything too memorable it’s more subtle than anything but that doesn’t necessarily make it lesser walking the streets of the city can be some of the most immersive in the franchise the tight streets the dusty atmosphere the music too oh my god the music it’s just so immersive this city
Gives itself its very own vibe it clearly sets itself apart from 82 and brotherhood while not being directly inspired by ac1 although it is similar part of the world constantinople gives you this vibe that it’s a diverse place a melting pot of cultures and people and that’s very much the most ideal place
For an assassin to call home buildings like the hagia sofia look incredible in the distance and i like that there’s two major city areas separated by the golden horn river i really like constantinople it’s not my favorite city it’s probably not even top five just due to its subtle
Nature but that doesn’t mean i don’t love it in a different way it’s really really nice this whole section spends time letting you get to grips with the base elements of the game we take over some dens essentially the same mechanic from brotherhood with the borgia towers
Only we don’t blow them up this time which is less cool but also you can’t be blowing [ __ ] up in the middle of the city you’ve got bombs in this game which are i mean i like them i i like you have more options i can use smoke bombs to
Mask and approach use cow trops when being chased or i could use explosives to take out guards within the radius i don’t know i actually like the whole bomb mechanic i’ve never really understood why it got a lot of [ __ ] more tools is honestly more fun we also do a
Little bit of then defense oh dead defense this is the most talked about part of revelations i think sadly then defense isn’t great is it i mean it’s also not the worst thing to happen ever so long as you keep you know to write it down which you should be doing you never
Actually have to play it anyway but even when you do it’s honestly a guilty pleasure of mine i love tower defense games yeah den defense isn’t the greatest tower defense game of all time but i don’t know it’s kind of fun this is probably my dumbest opinion and it’s really not based on
Anything other than the fact that i have a soft spot for tower defense and i kind of find it fun being forced to do it randomly would suck but luckily you aren’t forced to do it randomly unless you’re playing the game like an idiot and just letting notoriety get high
Which 82 and brotherhood already taught you not to do then defense is just another consequence of not keeping that in check which yeah it might be annoying in of itself as an entire mechanic i know a lot of people don’t love the notoriety system in any of the games but
To me it just added to the idea of remaining incognito and allowed the player control over how much the city is onto your presence which i do just like now sequence three is really where the world opens up so like all the videos i’ve done on these games so far let’s
Just take a step back and have a look at what this game actually does the world is fully open to you for the first time in assassin’s creed from the very start no walled off areas no restrictions now on paper this does sound good it means
You can do whatever you want right from the start but it does remove some of the interesting level design and curated progression that those previous games had there were some areas saved for later because it opened up side activities as the story progressed as well as some towers being available only
After acquiring the climb leaf glove in revelations everything has to be accessible from the start which means that level design is a bit samey places don’t feel entirely unique as districts and sort of blend into one which isn’t necessarily bad just not as unique as the earlier entries everything used to
Feel a tad more structured and curated with revelations feeling a little bit more vague that also plays into the side content too ac1 had effectively no side content it was a linear game set in open space 82 dabbled in some side content however brotherhood was really what showed side content can work incredibly
Well in assassin’s creed every single thing you do in brotherhood is important to the story in one way or another and not important in a story sense but important in the sense that it actually is relevant to the main story they’re not side missions so much as optional
Extensions of the main path whether you’re helping the courtesans gather information from borja men destroying leonardo’s war machines commissioned by the borgia or dismantling the towers to take over for the assassins everything you can do in brotherhood is relevant to the core story of taking over the borgia
Power in rome and replacing it with assassin influence revelations isn’t like that revelation’s main story is about ezio tracking down the massiaf keys along the way he has to deal with the templars but that’s not really a core focus it’s more of an exploration
Of who ezio is in this era of his life how does he think about the creed and how does that affect the way he deals with things that he’s dealt with in the past and so yes we fight templars yes we expand our assassin presence but it’s
Not really the focus of the game and so side missions can feel somewhat disconnected from the actual focus to answer that this game doesn’t really have side missions it has the task of taking down the dens and replacing them with the assassins along with assassin recruit missions in which you recruit an
Assassin train them up to level 10 using the mediterranean defense which leads into part one of an assassination storyline for the multiplayer characters getting them to level 15 allows for them to become masters and take down the templar for their arc revelations tries to expand on the brotherhood mechanic
But it feels somewhat hollow and drawn out it doesn’t add depth so much as it adds bloat to a system that didn’t really need it ac3 for all its flaws does this a lot better in brotherhood you could find and assassinate all of the multiplayer characters through templar agent missions in revelations
They’re simply part of these master assassin arcs for your recruits and although i like that they returned brotherhood ultimately does it better there’s no padding or fluff it’ll feel swift and fun revelations is a bit more of a slog i find in that department what i really do love here though is the
Mediterranean defense it takes the brotherhood system and expands on it in a really cool way every city in the mediterranean is templar controlled by sending in assassins you can shift that balance of power until it’s assassin controlled i do think the term assassin controlled is sort of a weird oxymoron
How can something be assassin controlled when they fight for freedom rather than control i don’t know it’s just funny to me in taking over these cities and liberating them from templar control you’re able to start doing additional missions that increase your daily income from banks as well as xp income
Passively for your recruits it’s a really nice addition that gives you more incentive to liberate all these cities in the region weirdly enough revelations also has random events that can happen throughout the city there’ll be like this black dot on your map and by going over to it something will happen a lot
Of the times it’s just some dude wanting to fight but i found this one where this guy wanted to pay me to carry boxes like why the [ __ ] is ezio doing this why is he doing random manual labor for money in what reality is this something he
Should be doing i also took time to grab the massey half white die for ezio i feel like most people love the grey and don’t get me wrong i love his default design but ever since i was a kid i’ve just associated white and red with assassins and every opportunity i get to
Have those colors i take it i did it in ac 3 unity and as close as i could get in black flag and syndicate although i’m gonna be real i don’t really play syndicate all the time moving on with our main goal in istanbul though we head
To the old polo training post to speak with the owner of sofia sator buongiorno maraba please come in oh excuse the clutter i have not had time to tidy up since my trip you sailed from roads no si how did you know we were on the same ship have we met
We have now may i have a look around prego most of my best homes are in the back i love sofia so much she is such a wonderful character with so much depth that is later explored more she’s the perfect match for ezio and it just works
So well the way that she’s written sophia memories are essentially the actual main quests of the game each memory sequence has a few of them and they consist of doing something for sophia getting a book heading to a tomb and doing the tomb to get the key and
View one of voltea’s memories the first sofia memory is a bit different however as you head straight to the tomb located within the old polo trading post this doom is probably one of the weakest as it acts as three individual rooms which you have to gather keys to progress the
Rest are way better and easily the strongest in the series the way they’re integrated as part of the main story though is fantastic they were such a highlight of ac2 and brotherhood with brotherhood using them very very often especially for its modern day sequences revelations decides to make them core
Story missions to find each key you play one of these tombs not only does that higher the stakes and make them more important they’re also [ __ ] banging missions that work excellently as main story pieces i remember the first time i got my hands on this key i was so hyped
The way to help me was huge then the game makes you go off and do a bunch of stuff for the romanies but after that we head back to the hideouts and delve into our first altair memory Are you hurt broken foot what is your name son of umar umar oh yes he was a fine man who lived as he died with honor altair we have been betrayed the enemy has overwhelmed the castle you’ll live and where is he he was inside when the crusaders broke through
We can do nothing for him now altair we must fall back when i close the castle gate flank the crusaders in the village and drive them into the canyon you don’t stand a chance no mistakes i mean what an opening straight into things altair abbas massiaf it’s so cool
Taking place a couple years before the events of assassin’s creed one we can see altair at a different point in his life he was noble before becoming a master and being favored by amwaleem turned his confidence into a blinding arrogance his robes look beautiful i’ll always have a soft spot for the original
Ac one design as there are some differences of course number one being the fact that he actually has a short blade on his back rather than just a place for it to go and the dimensions and colors are slightly different but god damn revelations altair robes are
The best we’ve had they’ve never been out done since no matter how good the graphics are in unity nothing comes close to the rope design here just spectacular now the interesting part about revelations altair is that they change the voice actors philip shahbaz voiced altair in assassin’s creed one
However in revelations they replaced him with kasambha now i’ve always preferred shabazz don’t get me wrong the accurate accent in revelations is a welcome addition but philip can do that he’s of iranian descent he often takes on work that requires him speaking with a middle eastern accent i mean just listen to
This demo clip i adored my grandfather his soft white beard tickled my cheek when he hugged me and i could sit for hours listening to the sound of his sweet voice chanting the athan the muslim call to prayer and i had plenty of opportunities to do so since muslims
Are called to pray five times every day chanting the adhan and the quran is not an easy thing to do well but when my grandfather did it the sound was magical he sounds fantastic imagine him adding a slight bit of oomph to that voice and boom you’ve got an altair that sounds
Like altair from ac1 but has the correct accent to me that’s a no-brainer altair’s writing in revelations is brilliant but the voice acting isn’t really my favorite it’s too soft spoken for altair especially in his younger years also we found out that cassandra is a bit of a dodgy bloke along with
Half of ubisoft anyway taking down the templar we get this great confession you put too much faith in the hearts of men and i the templars know the truth humans are weak base and petty no our creed is evidence to the contrary perhaps i am not wise enough to
Understand but i suspect the opposite that i am too wise to believe such rubbish an important piece of dialogue one that plays into ezio’s arc you have to remember there is a reason for each of these memories why are we being shown this one sure it’s cool to see altair
Prior to ac1 but there’s a clear message here the templar shunned speaking to the idea that his creed is merely a guise for disorder pretending to be high and mighty and wise when in reality it’s nothing but a facade is that true well not necessarily but in that period
Maybe remember the 11 time brotherhood were proud they had castles they waged war essentially altair reformed them and threw them the creed itself this lesson is important because it’s part of the reason altair changed things because the templar was speaking to a truth within the creed it’s a critique that after
Years of pondering altair ended up partly agreeing with you also get this conversation with altair and al-mualim you offered him a chance to salvage his dignity why no man should pass from this world without knowing some kindness but he shunned your graces as was his right altair
I have watched you grow from a boy to a man in so short a time it fills me with as much sadness as pride you fit your father’s shoes as if they had been tailored to your feet alsair explains that it was his right to shun altair’s graces the true assassin ideology freedom
This is the first time we see altair express that and it’s an important part of his reformation of the order they didn’t want to have a hand in the tyranny just another dominant force wiping out those they disagreed with but to live among the people to allow them
To live freely to assassinate templars who wish to control the minds of men and women the idea you should have the right to shun someone’s graces is an important message as well as having the right to not follow the assassin’s creed something that plays into ezio’s decision to ultimately leave also
Something spoken about by desmond in the valhalla audio logs what i said was i wish i hadn’t been born into the assassins i wish i had chosen this life is that good enough sure but why is that because because choice is the central idea of our creed it underpins everything right
It’s about free will it’s about seeing the evidence before you and saying yes this is what i want or no this isn’t for me but when you’re born into a group like this or any other like i was you get mixed signals you get told over and over again
This is what we believe these are the rules this is reality no deviation and if you question it oh they look at you like you like you killed a puppy that’s hardly free will it’s a weird irony when free will is your central belief but nobody wants you to believe otherwise
I don’t know how to say it exactly but i always thought there was something self-destructive about our creed if free will is the most important moral guidepost we have we should be free to ignore it to choose submission for example you know what i mean like
We should be free to side with the templars if it’s really my choice i could do that sure this segment speaks of siding with the templars but the core message remains it’s a valuable critique on the assassin’s creed itself something darby really loves doing and i love seeing it explored the philosophy of
These two orders is the most interesting part i spent some time in sequence four really focusing on a lot of the side activities i took this opportunity as a moment to really establish the assassins in constantinople i did a ton of recruitment took over all the dens
Trained at my assassins at the same time and doing all the viewpoints i’ve already talked about each of these elements in detail earlier so i’ll skip over those it was a nice experience to just take it easy and focus on building up our income and our presence in the
City it feels nice to just have that slow progression doing all these little bits to just feel like you’re winning a war one step at a time it’s something assassin’s creed used to do really well liberating a city piece by piece i do miss that i also took some time to gear
Up by buying shops the same as brotherhood you’re of course able to get weapons and armor the armor in revelations is nice for the most part although you can’t really mix and match it too well the original starting armor is nice it’s the same as the brown leather from the intro sequences it’s
Just silver which is pretty nice the only other armor i really like is the final set that you can buy i decided to only buy the greens vambraces and pauldrons the chest armor looks pretty bad and obscures the robes so i always leave that there’s a side zoom in
Revelations for vlad the impaler who was a voivode of wallachia in romania he was called the impaler because he was known to impale his enemies on spikes and leave them there to slowly die which is pretty [ __ ] grim this tomb is a banger and it’s crazy that this was
I believe a piece of bonus pre-order content back in 2011 i’m pretty sure now you can’t buy revelations without getting it but back then i’m pretty sure it wasn’t part of the standard game it’s really damn fun and has some great parkour sections and great little set
Pieces i’m a big fan of this one although the light shafts look [ __ ] in the ezio collection like honestly this is this is bad how did this get through and also never get patched ubisoft if you’re watching this please fix that and while you’re at it also fix your uh
Awful workplace misconduct thank you those are both like on the same level of importance clearly back to the main story we learned there is a plot to kill the prince and so our boys have to dress up as italian minstrels and infiltrate the party being held where the killers
Are hiding i love this bit yeah it’s kinda really silly but i don’t know the tone isn’t so out of sync with the game that it hurts it this might be one of those missions in a newer ac game that i would have criticized the hell and back
But in revelations it just sort of works i love how the songs reference the other ac games and they’re just ezio having a bit of a laugh But i suspect she would be fine with two or three mushrooms i also like this line before they disguise themselves you uh know how to play that thing i learned a few chords when i was young when were you ever young it’s a joke but it also has this
Bittersweet twang to it ezio realizing he let his life slip away he’s been part of this brotherhood since he was 17 and now he’s 52 and hasn’t settled down he’s lost out on a lot and if he keeps this up he might not have time for it all and
That’s important to his arc across this game speaking properly with suleiman is nice now he knows who ezio is kind of and ezio knows that he’s the prince they’re able to speak on a level with each other etc do you have some time to spare i would like your opinion on something i
Will once i change out of these rags gazelle meet me when you are ready shiloman confiding in ezio does well to subtly establish sulaiman doesn’t feel he has many that he can trust the political struggle is now part of our story and we get to explore that with
Ezio and his relationship to suleiman someone with very assassin ideals we sit in on a meeting with suleiman’s uncle prince athmets and tariq barletti a janissary captain i really like this exchange because it gives us a deeper look into both of these characters i like seeing ahmet speak openly to his
Captain and to suleiman we get to see the way he interacts with people as well as how they view him when tarik speaks openly about ahmet to his face may i speak freely you’d better you’re weak pensive in times of war and restless in terms of peace
You lack passion for the traditions of the ghazi yet you speak of fraternity in the company of infidels you make a decent philosopher ahmed but you will be a poor sultan you may show yourself out we get to hear how aphmart leads and his reaction says it all this is of course important
Character writing so the the reveal at the end of the game works rather than coming entirely out of the blue oh dushio you can’t have an nco game without duchio miyakara the strings of fate have drawn us together two italian lost and alone in the orient do you not feel the magnetism
I feel many things miss aire nausea above all is this man bothering you sophia excuse me but the Who was that um he was engaged to my sister many years ago and what happened was engaged to six others honestly his reaction to ezio is perfect comedic timing and i really love how it’s handled plus ezio’s explanation to sofia referencing all the way back to 82
Is nice it makes you realize that this man is the same boy who fought ducho to defend his sister’s honor he’s always chosen to do the right thing after retrieving sofia’s map and taking it back we get this really nice cut scene with them both studying it sofia’s
Amazement and intrigue is just another one of those ways we see how perfect she is for ezio her curiosity and her intelligence shines ah beautiful no this is a print of a map by martin walshe mueller see here the new lands described by mercer americo vespucci war christopher colombo
History has a strange way of unfolding also the little joke there about christopher columbus referencing ezio’s time with him in 82 discovery ezio clearly admires sophia she has so much interest in the things he also finds interesting the world itself the cultures the undiscovered mysteries she’s a wonderfully explored character
And i love how much ezio adores her eddie forgive me it is a joy to see someone with a passion so personal and noble it is inspiring goodness where is this coming from gracia sofia i will return finding the book and heading to the tomb location we have the galata tower tomb
I’m calling them tombs but are they even really tombs i mean there’s nobody actually buried there i know the mission type is a tomb mission but like what would be a better word to describe it sanctuary vault i’m gonna stick with tomb the galata tomb is incredible probably the
Most memorable sadly again the seo collection ruins the atmosphere because of those goddamn light shafts seriously look at that how did that get past anyone one of my issues with this tomb though and to be fair with all of them is the hook blade getting in the way a
Lot of architecture in revelations isn’t actually built for the hook blade the hook blade just lets you navigate normal areas faster the annoying part is that it restricts you in a lot of ways from ejecting like i mentioned earlier and it’s really noticeable in tombs the hook
Blade is always latching onto things and when you try to eject it just doesn’t work properly and [ __ ] things up usually so the same muscle memory i have from ac1 to brotherhood doesn’t really apply here which sucks i guess this was the start of ubisoft automating its parkour removing true player agency it’s
A small thing but for an absolutely old dog like me it does bother me some returning to the hideout we load into the second of the altair memories taking place just after the ending of assassin’s creed one you have fire in your hand old man it should have been destroyed
Destroy the only thing capable of ending the crusades and creating true peace never forgive me for this mentor but the apple corrupted you and through you it would have corrupted us for us to live you had to die is it truly over is that sorcerer dead he was no sorcerer
Just an ordinary man in command of illusions have you prepared the pyre i have what i’ll hear some of the men will not stand for such a thing let me handle it i do not like how they just dubbed over that scene with casamba i think not only
Does it do philip dirty it also just sounds kind of bad and looks kind of bad i’m really just not that big on cassandra’s altair i think i always used to say he was better purely because he had an accent and based on nothing else but when you compare performances
Shabazz established ateya’s tone and anfa isn’t even close you held fire in your handles man it should have been destroyed you held fire in your hand old man it should have been destroyed he does a decent job as elderly altair but i cannot see him as the young man it
Just does not work for me at all the writing is what makes it this memory takes us into how otay deals with the aftermath of al-maliam’s death i would have liked a tad more meat here all we really see is him carrying the body trying to come into bass and then
Climbing the tower to get the apple it’s probably my least favorite of these altair sequences that said though it does give us a little insight into what happened directly after ac1 something i’d always wondered for years now we get to see a little bit of that also the
Idea the order becomes divided after the death of amalin with the people following altair and people following abbas have you anything to teach us all to ruin sequence 5 is a bit of a dud in terms of main missions even though i consider the sofia missions the main missions they
Aren’t technically the assassin political missions are the main mission markers on your map sophia missions are separate main missions you basically just tail taric learning selling guns to the templars use disgruntled market people to break into the arsenal then eavesdrop on manuel inspecting the guns there’s nothing hugely of note to talk
About there there’s a decent set piece to escape the arsenal i like ziplining and stuff but it’s pretty filler in a setup sequence in terms of that whole plot line however onto these sofia memories though her shop has sadly been broken into and a painting has been
Stolen we as the assassin we are seek to get it back i honestly love how these sofia missions tend to be normal [ __ ] but assassinified get a late package by sneaking into a guarded ship stealing it retrieve the stolen painting by sneaking into the market tracking down the
Painting and stealing it back for us without being detected honestly it makes me laugh it’s just like normal [ __ ] but seo turns it into some assassin mission it makes me laugh and the most ridiculous one is yet to come but we’ll get there meeting up with sophia we get
This really nice scene where she tries to learn more about ezio and what is this all about you are not a scholar that much is clear do you work for the church not the church no but i am a teacher of a kind i will explain one day sofia when i can
And i mean obviously not the church he’s armed to the teeth then again knowing the church the next two mission is one of my absolute favorites i adore this tomb so much form of the ox this doom has you traverse along an old underground cavern tailing
A few templars as they try to shoot at you from their boat it’s high action it’s very tense and has some really nice set piece moments such as when the gunpowder is thrown and it sets everything on fire and you jump across the beams to reach your enemies it’s
Really nice and i always have a ton of fun with it retrieving the massey f key though we get memory number three for atari one of my absolute favorites this one is very important in altair’s own personal journey but also for ezio as an observer too the templars have retaken their archive
On cyprus abbas sent no reinforcements it was a massacre oh my god maria when we left myself 10 years ago this order was strong but all that progress has been undone abbas must answer for this answer to whom the assassins obey only his command now resist your desire for revenge
Speak truth and they will see their he executed our youngest son maria he deserves to die perhaps but if you cannot win back the order by honorable means its foundation will crumble 30 years ago i let passion overtake my reason and it caused a rift that has never fully healed altair and maria have come back to massaf after learning their son was put to death by abbas now acting as some sort of corrupted head of the assassins
Altay and maria of course have been away for a long time fighting the mongols maria telling altair he needs to win back the order by honorable means otherwise the foundations will crumble is a really powerful display of her growth between games we saw her in ac1 as a templar agent in bloodlines as
Someone altair grows close to and briefly in ac2 when they yeah you know in anchor seeing her there is the one to meet altair’s level as someone he respects is really sweet it’s clear to see how they both influence each other in a positive way and match each other too and respect and
Intelligence her voice is the one altair listens to the most again this is all important for ezio think of sofia as his maria altair confronts her bass and maria and him demand to know why seth was killed we seek the truth about our son’s death
Why was seth killed is it the truth you want or an excuse for revenge if the truth gives us an excuse we will act on it surrender the apple altair and i will tell you why your son was put to death ah the truth is out already
Abbas wants the apple for himself not to open your minds but to control them you have held that artifact for 30 years altair reveling in its power and hoarding its secrets it has corrupted you very well abbas take it what before i executed your son i told him you ordered it yourself
He died believing you had betrayed him [Applause] no Kill him now okay there is a lot to unpack in this scene for one thing it’s a lesson to ezio sophia is his maria he needs to be careful not to allow her to get tangled in a war she knows nothing of to put her in danger because of his own
Actions would be on him the same way altair letting his anger get the better of him was maria’s downfall ezio failing to remain measured could spell the end of sophia another reason i love this scene is because of how it’s depicted in the secret crusade novel it’s so much
Better and honestly this is how i always see it in canon let me just read it for you very quietly so that only altair could hear he said i told seth it was you who ordered his death he died believing his own father had betrayed him the apple was glowing and altair had
Failed to control himself swami his hand on the apple suddenly tortoned his eyes popping wide then his head was tilting to one side his body shifting and writhing as though were operated by some force inside his jaws opened but no words came out the inside of his mouth
Glowed gold his tongue worked within it then compelled by the apple he stepped away and all watched as his hands went to his face and he began to tear at the flesh there gouging deep trenches in it with his fingernails blood ran from the churn’s skin and he still mauled himself
As though he were attacking dough ripping the skin of his cheek and tearing a long flap from it wretching at one ear until it dangled from the side of his face i mean that’s just oh my god it really depicts how altair felt inside this man not only murdered
His son but told his son altair had ordered it himself truly a monster of a human being and one in his own order an altair’s rage the rage we hadn’t seen since his time in assassin’s creed one is let loose ignoring maria trying to quell him and using the apple for the
Potential that it had it’s such a powerful scene escaping massiaff with darim altair rides away reflecting on his loss and with intention to one day return Ezio’s letters to claudia continue in the opening to sequence six this one i really love take a listen to how he speaks of sophia with every passing moment i know my chances grow slimmer and yet i cannot help but linger some days to stay an extra hour with her
To hear her voice and watch her face animate with joy as she speaks of the things that move her her books her city her memories i cannot help but think what the shame it will be when i find the final key he really loves her he admires her so
Much and it’s just so nice to see their love blossom that’s not a legal move it is a european variation aroco it’s interesting but not exactly fair when you play by different rules than your opponents you may think differently when you are super shall i take it back suleiman
I know it has been hard on you watching your father and me quarrel overbears its throne grandfather has chosen you and his word is conor what is there to argue about Your father and i were close ones but his cruelty and ambition have made i have heard the rumors well i have a meeting with the viziers shall we continue another time whenever you like i love this scene i don’t know where to start any metaphor using chess i’m a big
Fan of but particularly this one you get a measure of each of these men from this scene suleiman is a good thinker he uses a different chess method to a met but not only that when questioned on why he’s using a different method not fair when you play to different rules than
Your opponent suleiman replies you may think differently when you are sultan which again is clever he’s turning it on his uncle to see how he’ll react ahmed begins to talk about suleiman’s dad when he stops him not really wanting to hear the stories about his father suleiman is stuck here he
Understands the world from a particular perspective differently from most sure his father is a poor choice for sultan someone cruel however his uncle is no better they’re both poor choices for different reasons they both fail to see the world and their people the way suleiman does and it’s all very well
Illustrated just from this simple chess scene alright so moving through the sequence we’re tasked with finding out what tarik knows about the guns so ezio can follow the byzantines to wherever they’re hiding track them down and eliminate them and get the massive key job done however this is where things
Get a bit complicated and i actually really like this ezio disguised himself as a janissary this is like one of the only proper assassin missions in the game we blend with the janissaries make our way through their camp taking it slow and stealthy to reach taric making
Sure not to be seen and then diving for the kill the issue here is that tariq was innocent secretive sure but not a traitor what a bitter irony is this the result of slayman’s investigation you collude with the sultan’s enemies what did you expect would come of such treachery i blame myself
Not for treason but hubris i was preparing an ambush preparing to strike the byzantine templars where they felt safest what proof do you have of this see here this will lead you to the peace and things in cappadocia destroy them if you can you have done well tarek forgive me
You can see here ezio’s genuinely upset he made a mistake and an innocent man died for it even at this point in ezio’s life his confidence can get the better of him and that’s consistent across his games his biggest flaw was confidence and arrogance and that [ __ ] him over
Here but all is not lost thanks to taric we have the location of the byzantines cappadocia our next stop i really like the twist with tarik because if you replay the game and listen to him you can tell he’s not a traitor which is why the traitor plot line works all his
Dialogue works to make him out like he’s a good guy and if you watch the deals with the templars or the talks with his men you can tell his true motives it’s all just that had shrouded and i love that when twists are telegraphed rather
Than just out of the blue and the same goes for ahmet returning to sulaiman we get this scene with both him and ahmet which is very telling in hindsight at first it seems like he’s genuinely concerned why was tara killed but you can see on one closer inspection the
Janissaries will accuse me of this crime shows he’s really only out for himself his order and the templars it’s really well done to show him as a seemingly decent guy but also telegraph the idea that he’s got something to hide i like it a lot now the next sofia memory is
Iconic the greatest mission of all time some might say the white tulip mission yes ladies and gentlemen we have arrived at the main attraction remember earlier when i was talking about how these missions are just normal things made assassinate for gameplay reasons this one’s easily the funniest sofia
Needs white tulips the white tulip cellar man has none he needs to go get more so what does etsy water tornade do he takes to the rooftops he tails the man but makes sure not to be seen one with the crowd a true assassin stalking his prey to get tulips
I need to know why and also what would happen if he were caught there’s a damn detection mirror as if the guy is going to attack ezio if he realizes he’s accompanying him to get the tulips like what is this mission it also goes on for
[ __ ] ages it’s so dumb but honestly i wouldn’t change it for anything getting the tulips we returned to sofia who’s got a picnic all ready for us in the gardens around the hagia sofia it’s a really sweet moment of levity amidst a lot of chaos either side of it
It works well and it’s really nice i wanted to thank you for letting me play a small role in your adventure a small role is enough for this adventure believe me you are a mystery auditor with this piace i do not mean to be it is fine Why thank you any luck with the final code ah the code see i started many hours ago you will get it soon enough The final tomb maidens tower i really need to know who the [ __ ] built this why they built it in the way they did and who the [ __ ] is meant to traverse this and how much did it cost to make this tomb is insane how does this even fit into law did the
Assassins really do this i know these tombs can get a bit crazy but this one it’s mental it’s actually mental but i don’t really care because it’s so much damn fun revelations really pulls out all the stops with their tombs and god damn i miss this [ __ ] since revelations they just stopped doing
These tunes these incredible large-scale puzzles they were amazing and they were just scrapped entirely i refuse to believe only in italy and turkey did the assassins build these crazy tombs you’re telling me that arno never came across something like this that london didn’t have one no excuses ubisoft you just
Removed one of the best mission types from your franchise for no reason after 2011. ridiculous fix it now and also fix your workplace misconduct thank you this tomb brings us to the final key left scattered in the wild the actual final one however is in the hands of the
Templars one we intend to track down the fourth altair memory skips us ahead sometime around 20 years after maria died i’ll tell altair finally returns to massiah they say he screams in his sleep calling out for his father abbas what a miserable man it is not our place to judge it certainly is
If our master has gone mad i would like to know good evening water of course sit many thanks what brings you here old man pity abbas do not mock him he has lived as an orphan for most of his life shaped by his family’s legacy he is desperate for power
Because he is powerless he is our mentor and unlike he never betrayed us nonsense altair was no traitor He was driven out unjustly is it is it you i heard the rumors but i did not believe them i wonder if i might speak to abbas myself it’s been a long time i love this segment so much just like maria said unless you reclaim the order by honorable means its foundations will
Crumble as altair walks the streets the men flocked to his side they’re fed up with a bass with his poor leadership and his corrupt ideals ate is a ray of light to these people he represents hope in the darkness and the people fight to preserve that which inspires hope as
Everyone follows him to the top of the tower altair confronts abbas and i love the exchange between the two tell your men to stand down no i am defending massa would you not do the same you corrupted everything we stand for and lost everything we gained all of it
Sacrificed on the altar of your own spite and you you have wasted your life staring into that apple dreaming of your own glory that is true of us i learned many things from the apple of life and death of the past and the future let me show you
And with that we get to see altair use the invention leonardo would one day build for ezio centuries later firing it at a bass and watching him fall down the steps of massif castle symbolically signifies his fall as the mentor and altair’s rise i can never forgive you al dair
The lies you told about my family my father the humiliation i suffered they were not lies abbas i was 10 years old when your father came to see me he was in tears begging to be forgiven for betraying my family then he cut his own throat
I watched his life away at my feet i will never forget that image but he was not a coward of us he reclaimed his honor i hope there is another life after this one then i will see him and know the truth of his final days and when it is your time
We will find you and then there will be no doubts the confession here is so bittersweet they have their moment to talk altair remains strong in telling about what his father did and abbas remains confident that it’s a lie sadly in denial until the very end it’s sad although abbas was
Cruel he killed seth maria malik and countless others but at heart he was sad a lost boy whose father had left him alone he didn’t want to believe it and he couldn’t believe it especially after all he’d done there was no conceding although i feel in the end he believed
Altair he probably believed him a long time ago just was too much of a coward to admit it to himself it’s tragic but also wonderfully executed i took some time now before departing for cappadocia to get my affairs in order once you leave constantinople the game essentially becomes linear right
Until the end technically you can free roam once you return to the city but like you’re meant to go check on sophia not roam about doing random [ __ ] it kind of kills the pacing if you do so i like to take my time with everything now i
Spent some time grabbing all the memoirs there’s 10 scats around if you get all of them you unlock a secret assassin tomb within the hagia sophia for some reason they play city of jerusalem here don’t get me wrong it’s a great piece and it fits musically it’s just funny
That they decided to use that here to be fair ever since ac2 they’ve used random pieces of ac1 music usually acre underworld for tombs it’s common in ac2 revelations it fits it’s just kind of funny after completing this tomb you get yourself the ishaka pasha armor now it’s
Kind of cool i think it’s pretty weak compared to the armor of voltaire but it’s still nice i personally prefer the default robes i don’t know it just works better for me so i always tend to shelf the ishak pasha armor and just stick with the regular outfit speaking of
Other outfits once you complete the first part of every master assassin side mission of which there are seven you get the master assassin armor honestly this looks really nice and were able to keep my outfit die i’d stick with it but you can’t so i just rather go default again
I don’t mind the grey i just prefer white and then also made sure to complete the second parts of all the master assassin missions so i had everyone maxed out nicely also in completing the assassin guild challenges you get yourself the sword of altair which is a must i can’t go without this
Bad boy i took some more time to go about buy shops and finish up other stuff it was a whole lot of fun but it was finally time to set sail for cappadocia so we headed to the docks auditory world around the city is you’re leaving us there’s nothing i do a secret
No to worry brother the captain of your ship is a friend but neither of you are going anywhere just yet the janissaries have raised the chain across the mouth of the halide and ordered a full blockade until you are caught they raise the chain for me we will celebrate later here
I have something for you careful this has 50 times the kick of our usual bombs now this mission is a classic it’s the e3 demo mission i remember being a kid staying up late when i really should have been sleeping watching the e3 demo in 2011 being beyond hyped for
Revelations i used to watch this demo over and over and over again i was really [ __ ] weird playing it even now still hypes me up even if i always seem to [ __ ] up the greek fire bit honestly i don’t even know what i’m doing wrong i
Just seem to die long before i can burn all the ships sometimes it just works and sometimes it doesn’t i just i don’t know making a way across the burning boats weaving in and out of guards falling into the water and swinging across the lamps this whole set piece is
So incredible and a pretty big turning point for ezio because at this point it’s pretty clear he has little regard for the creed you know hired in plain sight never bring harm to an innocent direct or indirect there’s no way he could have known who was hit those ships
Never compromised the brotherhood he definitely did all three of those things ezio is old and tired and after seeing a glimpse of the life he could have with sophia and learning what he’s learned from altair he’s becoming more disillusioned than ever before he has a mission to achieve and that’s his sole
Focus ezio has always been somewhat of an action hero but now more than ever his antics completely dismissed the three core tenets of the assassin’s creed but i see that as a core part of his arc of this subtle critique of the creed that’s explored in revelations and
How that pushes ezio one way or another of course is not a subtle approach see sorry for the delay After being ejected from seo’s memories we’re back on animus island i took this as an opportunity to dive into desmond’s journey a set of five memories centered around desmond’s history these missions are somewhat controversial mainly because they don’t adhere to the core and familiar assassin’s creed gameplay they’re first person puzzle platformers
Now i love these segments is their gameplay fantastic no it’s whatever it’s hardly the worst thing i’ve played but it’s far from the best but the reason i love these segments is because of the attention to detail i love hearing about desmond’s past learning of his time growing up on the farm oh
I was born here the farm yeah they called it the farm my parents two dozen couples some kids a community hidden away about how he ran away got a job at the bar bad weather 16 years old where was i going no idea just a way that’s it that was the plan
Attending bar at bad weather i just walked in and they handed me a shaker took me on for my ravishing looks i think the owner had a little crush my winning smile how he eventually was picked up by abstergo all culminating in him discovering that he is an assassin
My name is desmond miles and i am an assassin i am an assassin because desmond was born an assassin he didn’t choose to be one not until later he got to make that choice he now wanted to be an assassin indoctrinating kids on a farm to be assassins seems
Contradictory to all things assassin desmond discusses this in his internal thoughts ever since i was young they never stopped saying it you are an assassin you are an assassin and this is our creed but when desmond finally got out into the world experienced things needed family ended up in abstergo then the
People he met lucy sean rebecca inspired him he became an assassin because he wanted to not because he was born into it and that is the true meaning of being an assassin becoming one because you see something wrong with the world and you have the passion to want to change that
Not because you were born on some farm in south dakota and told what to think that’s very templar again reinforcing that critique of the assassins and their creed how free is to free i also love the level design of these segments the puzzles and structuring represents the
Stories that are being told when desmond talks about following a river you’re essentially traversing a river area when he talks about bad weather you’re in a room full of lasers blocking your path representing the lights of a nightclub it’s really nicely done and immerses you in desmond’s journey from start to
Finish i love this as a kid and i love it even more now the way the game takes the time to say no we aren’t gonna do something conventional let’s create a meaningful puzzle platformer and tell this story with real depth real meaning and real emotion baked into the writing and the gameplay
I love desmond’s journey for that now we also had a dlc for revelations i’m talking about it now so it doesn’t [ __ ] up my pacing for the end of the video it couples nicely together with desmond’s journey as well i remember when this dlc launched i remember all
The big ac youtubers at the time loomer squiddish shenmue gamer’s beverage esko black no not him back when ac youtube was dominated by people with passion for those games for a love of the series unlike now where it’s hard to find anyone who respects you as a viewer
Respects your time i say making a two-hour video on a 10 year old game and genuinely gives a [ __ ] ac youtube these days is just click bait quickly throwing together news content i probably contributed to that back in the day more than i’m willing to admit but
Hey at least i actually cared about the things i was talking about you still got some quality guys out there like jv the okay jace’s a few others sorry i’m sort of out of touch with that whole community these days but damn i miss when the main pillars of the ac
Community on youtube were a bunch of guys who just loved what ac represented now it’s just not that it’s a bunch of guys who ubisoft can pay and give [ __ ] to and refuse to criticize ubisoft who just use their viewers to make money ah it’s it’s just soulless sorry for
That odd tangent and reflection i was going to say i remember all the core ac youtubers calling for a boycott of this dlc because it was just sort of [ __ ] part of the reason for the backlash was because it wasn’t really like desmond’s journey entirely the narrative pieces
Were pretty sparse and it was much more gameplay focused with the environments not really representing the narrative either it was a bit of a mishmash of puzzles separated by a few pieces of vague dialogue detailing clay’s backstory the story that is there is good and interesting but you could
Easily have cut this from seven memories to four memories without all the fluff added by random and frustrating puzzles the biggest kicker though was this bad boy lucy this is where your background comes into play if our experiments with desmond and the animus aren’t going well you will remove him from abstergo
Take him somewhere he will feel comfortable divulging his secrets your assassins should do the trick since desmond will be reading our emails we will ensure that secret communications between you and the assassins go through unimpeded once you are embedded i will come to pick up the animus tapes
Make sure to look very upset you need to be convincing desmond will lead you to the apple and then you bring it right to us we’re counting on you lucy you have served the templar order well and we never forget loyalty oh yes once inside their hideout
Perhaps you might ask the assassins why they left you alone for so many years that’s right i bet a few of you watching didn’t even know this existed the reason of course being because they put a huge reveal like that in a dlc that nobody even bought because it was really
Low-key not really marketed all that well and was a box puzzle platformer and not even a good one i wouldn’t blame you for never having seen that before they of course did later reveal lucy being a templar double agent in assassin’s creed 3 but damn this was one
Hell of a misstep and probably something that should have been in the revelations main game it was a really weird choice and it made sense why people were mad it’s crazy to think though back then people were most frustrated with their modern day focus story dlc being a bit
Of a bad platformer these days it’s a worry if assassins will even be in the [ __ ] game sequence 7 opens with another of ezio’s letters this one i really really love it’s because of sophia and avezio’s feelings he really opens up about how christina’s death affected him which
Hits hard especially after seeing that whole relationship in the brotherhood sequences as ever i put stalk only in myself and hold the memory of dear sophia close to my heart claudia you would love to hear the racing thoughts of your brother now i have come to admire sophia with more
Affection than i thought possible after the death of christina something withered in me but that feeling that capacity for love has returned i adore sophia but dare not drag her into this life of mine not without fear of hurting her or driving her away christina was the only girl that ezio
Ever truly loved of course he’s been with uh many women katarina included but only ever was there true love for christina his longing for a normal life amidst a life that she could never be a part of sophia is the love he never thought he’d find again and the way she
Brings him back to life the way she makes him believe he can have a life outside of the assassins a life he thought he’d missed his shot at it’s wonderful and such a real and raw way of writing love it’s romantic and it’s beautiful itself is an interesting place i like
That the game takes us out of the main city to an interesting side location honestly the fact revelations has cappadocia the whole of masiak village and the main city is pretty wild considering it was made in such a short time the place itself is like
Fine it’s nice that we get to visit it and it works for the story but i can’t say i love spending time here that said i do love ezio’s cloak it’s really nice and i’ve always loved the very bottom of it where it’s all torn and [ __ ] just
Looks really nice i don’t know why that’s so weird that i even specifically think that i just i really do like it we find one of derek’s spies and follow around for a bit she gets kidnapped we free her and it’s all a little bit filler things get interesting when we
Have to go take out shakulu i like the setup of the guards around this area climbing and assassinating them feels really satisfying it’s just a really well structured little segment also those light shafts we stab our boy shakulu however he’s still alive i honestly have no clue who
This guy is and why he can take so many stabs maybe he’s just on an insane amount of painkillers once you take him down ezio concocts a plan of action to destroy the gunpowder drawing out manuel to grab the last key he instructs the spies to make sure everyone gets out
Safely which is of course a priority but he also acts incredibly recklessly here once again very little care for the people who could get trapped inside again playing into this idea of him leaving the creed behind breaking into the fort and fighting through ezio sets
Off the bomb and we go to catch up with manuel we are the true shepherds of constantinopolis we are the lords of islam we are byzantines stand fast do not let anyone break him stop that man shut him down i really love this assassination mainly because of the quality dialogue especially this section
To b peace to this troubled land templars are always quick to talk of peace but very slow to concede power because power begets peace flakka it cannot happen in reverse these people would drown without a fell hand to lift him up and keep them in line there he is
The monster i came to kill just showing the fact that behind the facade of wanting peace and a better future for the people there’s a lust for power from this man unless that ezio has come to know very well after facing many of the templar grand masters i also
Really love the entire convention here the way he speaks to ezio the templars in revelations are so much closer to that of assassin’s creed one morally grey with understandable goals ultimately they’re the bad guys but you can’t help but stop and listen to what they have to say i like when the templar
Ideology rivals the assassins rather than just being plain evil i should have been constantly successful i had so many plans your dream dies with you manuel your empire is gone ah but i am not the only one with this vision assassin the dream of our order is universal but for might be something
These are only labels costumes and facades beneath these trappings all templars are part of the same family enough prattling i am here for the massive key take it take it you seek your fortune see if you get within 100 leagues of that library before one of us finishes you off poor manuel
Last of the paleology i should not have put him in charge of our massive expedition he was an arrogant man impossible to keep in line disappoint me i met why are the templars because i am tired of all of this pointless blood feuds that pit father against son brother against brother
To achieve true peace mankind must think and move as one body with one mastermind ahmet revealed as the true grand master of this templar right makes so much sense we’ve come to know him through the game and although this moment works as a twist it’s an earned one aphmet doesn’t
Just come out of nowhere and claim the title of grand master this isn’t something out of the blue if you watch through all of his scenes they do wonders to flesh out who he is as a person it’s very clear that sulaiman is closer to ezio’s line of thought and
I’ve met closer to ezio’s foes the twist comes as more of a ha moment than a wait what moment which is something i do appreciate i also like a lot that ahmet and ezio are very similar men in their convictions and so seeing their two ideologies clash directly is honestly a
Joy with sophia potentially in danger and cappadocia in disorder ezio makes a break for the exit with the final massiaf key in hand this is such a moment as ezio looks back at cappadocia as he makes his escape he looks into altair’s fifth memory the end of an era nikola pogo
Our time together was brief by now but i have faced this codex will out of the many questions you have yet to ask altair this gift is invaluable grazie so where will you go next back to constantinopoli for a time we will establish a guild there before returning to venezia
Your son marco will be eager to hear his father’s wild stories he is a little young for such tales but one day soon see father a vanguard of mongols is broken through the village is overrun your cargo and provisions are waiting for you by the village gates
We will escort you there thank you ready to catapult and watch for my signal this memory is absolutely fantastic besides the way the apple works honestly it should have just worked like brotherhood just minus losing health to show otay has mastery over it the assassins flying him from
The sky just doesn’t do it for me of course this memory brings everything somewhat full circle althea sends the keys with the polos as well as his codex the same codex that was collected by ezio in assassin’s creed 2. but the highlight is of course oteer’s speech
The final breaking point for ezio seeing the message left by the mentor altair the end of an era when i was very young i was foolish enough to believe that our creed would bring an end to all these conflicts if only i possess the humility to say to myself
I have seen enough for one life i have done my part then again there is no greater glory than fighting to find the truth we are ready this is the exact moment when ezio decided to leave the brotherhood behind his mind was already made up here with sofia in danger and altea’s message
Received loud and clear ezio knew it was time to hang up his robes for good and yeah i spend a lot of time bagging on the newer assassin’s creed games but one of my all-time favorite things is something that derby wrote into valhalla adding to ezio’s arc making everything
Make sense rounding things off in a fantastic way i did have one extended hallucination a few days ago it was ezio he was older around the time he left cappadocia he was standing on the deck of a ship alone and through him i could feel an intense regret or guilt
And it felt to me like he’d had a loss of faith in himself in the creed like he couldn’t keep it up couldn’t stay true to his ideals and as i watched him i thought is this the moment he decided he was done being an assassin it felt like it
This is a perfect completion of ezio’s ark his mind is made up and that perfectly sets the stage for sequence eight citizens of the empire and travelers from foreign lands take heat by order of the janissaries new restrictions apply to all who travel to and from the city
Note that a reward of 10 000 will be given without question to anyone who brings in information that leads to the immediate arrest of this suicaster it’s your auditor back in the city the correct thing to do is head straight to sofia’s shop to check if she’s okay of course you could
Go off and finish upside stuff but that’s sociopathic arriving at the polo trading post there are guards bodies everywhere walking into the back who do we find but our boy yusuf You have earned your rest brother Brothers sisters the whole city rises against us while yusuf’s murderer waits and watches from the arsenal laughing fight with me and show him what it means to cross the assassins this moment is utterly terrific because now ezio isn’t tethered down by the creed he’s acting out of emotion to save
Sophia and to get revenge this is ezio back in assassin’s creed 2 before he even learned of the creed this is him fighting for family and for honor but with the backing of effectively an entire army of assassins we get to see ezio take the fight to ahmet and the
Templars he’s sick of seeing his friends and family die while he stands idly by patient he’s not losing sofia for anything storming the arsenal is a fantastic set piece having the infinite assassin signals is incredibly fun just ripping and tearing through the guards as they swarm you breaking through to the other
Side of the arsenal ezio gets a one-on-one with ahmet i absolutely love seeing these two come head to head where is she such fury where is she if you think you are in a position to negotiate kill me and be done with it i am sorry yet had to come to this
Two men who should be friends quarreling over the keys to a library we both strive for the same end ezio only our methods differ do you not see that peace stability a world where men live without fear people desire the truth yes but even when they have it they refuse to look
How do we fight this kind of ignorance liberty can be messier matt but it is priceless of course and when things fall apart and the lights of civilization deem ezio auditory can stand above the darkness and say proudly i stayed true to my creed i will open that library and i will find
The gram temple and with the power that is hidden there i will destroy the superstitions that keep men divided not in this life ahmed bring the seals to galata tower when you are ready do this and sophia will be spared my brother’s army will be here soon after that everything changes
The idea that the assassins and templars differ in only their method is my favorite thing about their war i love seeing the two come head to head and just speak philosophize and openly discuss their differences and when it’s done by someone who gets it as well as
Derby does it’s so interesting to see explored the idea that ezio is sticking to his creed out of some twisted sense of code he refuses to break rather than genuinely following the correct path is something i’ve met suggests ezio doesn’t respond maybe because he’s already decided to leave that life behind or
Maybe because athmet’s claim didn’t merit a response but either way the pause from them both in that moment is very poignant better than this however is the section that follows when suleiman appears overhearing everything i adore this moment and in particular one of the lions how long have you been here long enough
I’d ahmed as soon as he returned but i never expected to hear all this and what do you think he is a sincere man but this templar fantasy of his is dangerous it flies in the face of reality the world is a tapestry of many colors and patterns
A just leader would celebrate this not seek to unravel it he fears the disorder that comes from difference that is why we make laws to live by a canon that applies to all in equal measure Stand back whole soldier this man is not our enemy what a challenge it would be to have a son like you you are not dead yet old friend it’s you spare my uncle if you can or your father no the world is a tapestry of many colors and patterns a just leader would
Celebrate this not seek to unravel it and with that sully man perfectly describes the difference between assassins and templars like ezio said liberty can be messy but it’s priceless to unravel all the secrets of the world of the many cultures and creeds and difference would be in the end worthless because
You’d have order but without any of the color that makes life worth living liberty can be messy but it is priceless at this point ezio is at war with ahmet he takes the massiaf keys and seeks to trade them for sophia where is she i admire you at you but
Your bloodlust makes it hard to call you a friend bloodlust a strange insult from the man who ordered an attack on his own nephew he was to be kidnapped it’s you not killed i see kidnapped by the bits and things so that his uncle could rescue him and be held
At the hero more or less now the keys first the girl upon reaching the top of the tower what do you know it’s not her we’ve been swindled by the templars i honestly don’t even know why i met did this despite ezio to keep him distracted honestly it seems entirely unnecessary
And a bit overly malicious for no real reason i won’t lie saving sophia and hopping on a carriage it’s time to chase down athmets and gather back the keys to end this quest once and for all the carriage section is a nice change of pace although it is very similar to what
We get at the very very start of the game it does drag on a tad too long as well but i like exploring this area outside of the main city ac2 and brotherhood had plenty of countryside but for the most part in revelations we’ve been confined to constantinople so
It’s pretty great to actually go and see the surrounding country areas i like that sofia is confident here as well and holds her own she’s out of her depth and confused but she holds herself steady and without her ezio would have been done for it solidifies them as the
Perfect pairing finally catching up with athmet etio lands a perfect leap to tackle him sending them both flying through the air and off the edge of a cliff beside them in the air it’s opportunity to land a few punches disorienting him giving ezio enough time to activate his parachute courtesy of
Leonardo and landing them both safely on the ground and with that the keys are back in assassin hands so what now it’s you how does this end i am wondering that myself oh soldiers selim is not your master you serve the sultan you carry out his command alone where is he
Where is the sultan he stands before your brother stop please So you are the assassin it’s your auditor i am salim suriman’s father he speaks quite highly of you he is a remarkable boy with a magnificent mind were it not for his endorsement i would have you killed where you stand leave this place do not read them You did the right thing this is not your fight but where does one end and the next begin i love ezio’s reaction here ahmet is dead but one tyrant has been traded for another salim is just as bad if not maybe worse there’s no salvation for the people here they lose regardless sophia
Stops ezio it works well as a metaphor for her being what stops him fighting in general she is the one thing keeping ezio from living out his entire life as an assassin the same as altair without sofia ezio may have killed selim he might not have but he would have
Remained an assassin with sophia here he can walk away his fight is over the lion where does one end and the next begin is a great way to show ezio’s exhaustion after years of fighting men like this you simply can’t win them all all you
Can do is plant the seeds so that those who take after you can keep up that fight wasting your entire life fighting and fighting to the bitter end will bring you nothing but pain like caltaire said when i was young i believed our creed will bring an end to all these
Conflicts if only i had possessed the humility to say to myself i have seen enough for one life and so ezio does just that here it comes what is that what’s going on this is the end desmond scheduled for deletion what are you doing what is the man but
The some of his memories we are the stories we live the tales we tell ourselves don’t do this i’m saving you idiot go go i know it’s been years and years but this scene man it still gets me not only is it a great way to send out 16 it also
Says so much without saying much at all and i still think there were intentional plans here maybe ones that never came to direct fruition or maybe they did in valhalla i mean 16 grabs him you see a transfer of blue energy and he says what
Is a man but the sum of his memories we are the stories we live the tales we tell ourselves followed by i’m saving you now let’s pretend it’s 2011 again does save mean literally saving him like saving him like data i mean there was always the idea that desmond was in the
Gray which could have been possible due to 16 potentially the blue energy transfer and 16 saving him allows him when touching minerva’s eye in the grand temple to upload himself into the grey maybe that was down to 16 that’s how he is where he is in valhalla i mean there
Has to be something right when desmond wakes up at the end his arm is glowing blue so it transferred from the animus to the real world it wasn’t just a digital thing maybe it’s to do with the bleeding effect but look no matter what it was i think valhalla’s ending and
This scene in revelations are connected in some way or i want them to be because it pays off my investment anyway ezio’s final letter to claudia is one with a joyful tone it’s relaxed it’s calm and it sets the stage somewhat for sequence nine a sequence which is one of
Closure and of endings somewhat sad and somewhat happy bittersweet if you will i write these lines with a steady hand and a light heart we are a knock right now sophia and i with the five masjid of keys in our possession and all the time in the world
Sophia is a seasoned traveler and a fine companion to have so far from home tomorrow we will make our way to masjaf and once there into altair’s library to fulfill our father’s forgotten dream forgive the shortness of this letter dear sister for it is late and we are tired
Perhaps with luck the next words you hear from me will be in person the climb to the top of massiaf castle is one i love the weather is calmer than the start the colours of the sky are far more sombre ezio explains to sophia the meaning of the assassin’s creed also
They established here that the order began thousands of years ago meaning origins is a horrible retcon everything after revelations is so goddamn messy and i hate that here it was simple everything made sense everything was connected they didn’t try and say the origins of the brotherhood was 49 bce because that’s
Dumb they just let it be a mysterious thousand-year-old order but i’m getting distracted i love this whole philosophical discussion ezio’s true understanding of the assassin’s creed from a boy who knew nothing to a wise old man who understood he could never know everything nothing is true everything is permitted that is rather cynical
It would be if it were a doctrine but it is merely an observation of the nature of reality to say that nothing is true is to realize that the foundations of society are fragile and that we must be the shepherds of our own civilization to say that everything is permitted
Is to understand that we are the architects of our actions and that we must live with our consequences whether glorious or tragic it’s such an interesting way of explaining the concept of nothing is true and everything is permitted i don’t think you can really explain it much
More eloquently than ezio does here at the end of revelations at the steps of massage castle my god even saying that out loud 10 years later it doesn’t seem real how the [ __ ] did ubisoft make this game how were they allowed to make this game it’s it’s too perfect i also love ezio’s
Reflection on his life he doesn’t regret anything but he knows it’s time to let go for three decades i have served the memory of my father and my brothers and fought for those who have suffered the pain of injustice i do not regret those years but it is time to live for myself
And let them go let go of all of this then let go you will not fall far and sofia’s response you will not fall far always and i mean every goddamn time it gives me goosebumps it makes me tear up it’s just so well timed the performance
Is so convincing and it rounds off everything ezio just said ezio did so much in his life so much and to step away from it wanting to build a family settle down you’re god damn right he won’t fall far the end of the road i struggled with this puzzle a lot on my
First time playing the game my brain couldn’t work out why there were so many slots it took me a while to realize one of them was an eagle honestly look at this it took me three and a half minutes honestly that’s it’s so embarrassing in hindsight and as xio walked into the
Dark halls of altea’s library it marks the beginning of the greatest ending to maybe any video game i’ve ever played definitely among the most special no books no wisdom just you fratello Likewise I mean what words can describe this scene ezio auditore entering a vault underneath the masseyaf castle in which altair’s skeleton remains the four notes of ezio’s family weaved into the titled assassin’s creed theme as he picks up the key to signify that altair is essentially family is [ __ ] thematic
Perfection not to mention that we transition into a secret sixth altair memory which ties up his entire journey thus far everything atahia went through all of his hardship resulted in an order spanning centuries like derim says all that is good in me began with you father altair planned for the future his son
Would carry on what he started and his son after him carrying the reformed creed amongst the people of the world to one day descend to desmond miles it’s beautiful and as altair walks the same steps ezio just did we see him extinguish the lights of the vault with
The voices in the background altair maria amwa lim talking of the apple of eden the item altair reveled over for decades he built the vault to house that piece of eden to keep it safe for when the time came for ezio to find it if you are asked
Say i set the apple away tell them i sent it to cyprus torsivango or that i dropped it into the sea tell them anything to keep men away from this place this apple must not be found not until the time is arrived Camera pans around altair to reveal ezio two of the greatest assassins of all time in the same room and for a moment connected directly separated only by centuries but able to somewhat communicate across time with memories and messages not only is this a payoff to the investment in the brand it’s a
Payoff to ezio’s journey he was driven by altair in ac2 the codex pages were a huge part of his journey in that game his rebuilding of the brotherhood in rome directly mirrors altea’s reformation of the brotherhood moving outward from a castle on the hill to live among the people and strengthen
Them from within and now to let go thanks to the messages of altair ezio would go his own way be with his family and live well but the game doesn’t stop here not a chance we get more ezio heads over to the apple of eden almost
Touching it when he is greeted with a connection and his journey as the prophet is finally complete no you will stay here i have seen enough for one life desmond he’s talking to me i heard your name once before desmond a long time ago and now it lingers in my mind
Like an image from an old dream i do not know where you are or by what means you can hear me but i know you are listening i have lived my life as best i could not knowing its purpose but drawn forward like a moth to a distant moon and here at last
I discover a strange truth but i am only a conduit for a message that eludes my understanding who are we who have been so blessed to share our stories like this to speak across centuries maybe you will answer all the questions i have asked maybe you will be the one to make all
This suffering worth something in the end now listen desmond ezio and altair for one brief moment are all connected in this one room in three separate moments in time i know a lot of you were probably in the same boat as me played assassin’s creed since
Day one in 2007 fell in love with altair and then again with ezio all while interested in where desmond would go but i know some of you maybe aren’t some of you although i’m sure you love this scene too maybe don’t get just how special this was for someone like me in
2011. i love altair and i love ac1 i love desmond’s story and i fell in love with seo as a character this ending here paid off my four-year investment in this franchise and no matter how bad it got or how [ __ ] things will continue to be this moment exists as a shining example
Of assassin’s creed at its best odyssey can try to rip off this scene by having cassandra literally show up with absolutely none of the nuance or character growth because [ __ ] this scene is perfect of course odyssey wishes it could be revelations seeing altair a character i loved grow into this wise
Mentor of the order someone every following assassin would look up to was just mind-blowing to me i mean i know 82 alluded to it but revelations showed us altea’s growth and it showed us just how special he was he planted every seed for the future of the
Order to ensure it grew properly and that he shared that with ezio and the rezzio desmond i mean what more can i say it’s perfect and following this boy oh boy we get all the setup for assassin’s creed 3 everything that leads to the climactic finale for desmond and for all
Of ac3’s faults for all the [ __ ] i’ve given it over the years god damn is it preferable by a landslide to what we have these days it’s not perfect it’s in areas not even good but it’s so much better than modern assassins creed in almost every single
Way and that’s the only time you’ll catch me praising ac3 alright so don’t get used to it this entire section gives us insight into how the issue works i mean sorry the ones who came before that’s way better we didn’t know they were called isu back then and i wish we
Still didn’t jupiter explains all about the end of the world these six methods of salvation and the grand temple the central repository for all their knowledge and effort and the place that would help desmond save the world from the second coming of the catastrophe honestly seeing how it all ended for
Them is still really cool and honestly this depiction of the first sieve is so much better than anything we got later on i hate how they’re showing off in valhalla or odyssey it’s just so weird sure i know it’s all like this dream thing that mixes greek or viking
Simulations with the memories of the isu so it’s all like this wavy combination but like why revelations didn’t need to show that isu was being themed on the ottoman empire or whatever ac3 didn’t need to make out like the isu were themed on the [ __ ] age of enlightenment or whatever i just
Don’t see why it’s necessary let the isu be the [ __ ] isu their actual history and mythology is cool i don’t need this norse overlay [ __ ] it’s just nowhere near as interesting as true issue history but with that everything was ready the stage was set for ac3 and for desmond’s destiny to be realized
Now i don’t think we can actually do a revelations retrospective without talking about assassin’s creed embers i don’t think that would be the right thing to do embers was a short film that released alongside revelations written by darby mcdevitt closing the book on ezio’s life for good the art style is
Lovely the music choices are impeccable and the story itself is such a lovely closing chapter to ezio’s life one that i believe should have set up a future game i mean if ac3 followed xiaog then ac3 would have been as directly connected to altair ezio and desmond as
The game’s prior were ezio directly influenced this girl her journey could directly influence desmond it was the perfect opportunity but instead ac3 feels very disconnected to the rest of the series things became a bit more of an anthology until slowly it was only that but back to embers there’s a lot of nice
Small moments here that i wanted to touch upon without just watching the whole thing in the video i am taking marcelo into town to see machiavelli’s play ezio his play closed three weeks ago i missed it we are visiting your sister keep an eye on flavia okay
I really love the way this moment tells us he’s getting old but also we see him realize it too his memory isn’t what it used to be he’s also too caught up preparing for the end with this letter he’s writing to leave behind that he’s forgotten to live in the present the
Actual confusion and sadness on his face as he realizes he missed one of his best friends players is heartbreaking Are you okay i cannot seem to leave my past behind me i started this act of my life so late sofia i knew i would not have enough time to do everything now i worry i do not have enough time to do anything Ezio has what he wants but does he have time to do the things he wants to do it’s bittersweet seeing this man who once seemed so young coming to terms with his own mortality his own inevitable end it’s tragic and you can’t help but feel sorry for him
Half my family was murdered in his piazza right there 45 years ago but now see it like this full of life i cannot help but feel content and satisfied that so much pain has faded away the life of an assassin is pain you you suffer it you inflict it you watch
It happen with the hope that you can help it disappear in time again reflects on the life of an assassin on what it is to be part of the brotherhood with maybe more contentment than he did at the end of revelations he’s still learning even at 65. ezio
Understands this life so well and to see him teach xiao yoon the fundamentals of what this life will be is moving the idea that he once felt nothing but a lust for revenge which transformed into a contentment that the world around him is happy there’s joy this place that
Held pain for him 45 years ago no longer does his father would be proud the life of an assassin is to use pain to fight injustice so that in time both fade and only peace and joy remains even if only for a fleeting moment when i fought the borgia revenge drove me forward
And my first impulse was to aim for the head in time however i learned that those who inspire fear have more devoted followers than those who preach love killing rodrigo and cesare would have accomplished nothing without some equal measure of fraternity so i spent many years teaching men and
Women to think and act for themselves first in roma then kostatinopoli love binds our order together love of people of cultures of the world fight to preserve that which inspires hope and you will win back your people it will take a long time a long time if you do it right see
Get some rest this ties into the point before ezio passing on knowledge from what he’s learned just hearing him talk about what it means to be an assassin he really honestly believes all this in 82 he began as a kid out for revenge but he slowly became this wise old man who
Believes in fighting against injustice even when he tried to push shout away he couldn’t it means too much to him fighting for what is right fighting for freedom just imagine shao was the protagonist of ac3 not only would it be an infinitely better setting imagine getting to experience xiao putting the
Teachings of ezio to use building a brotherhood and growing stronger on her own too it could have been such a wonderful game that sadly will never get to see because women don’t sell you should have stayed home i am home i don’t have much to say about this one
Just that i started crying here and didn’t stop until the movie ended and i felt nothing but pain of course this wouldn’t be a revelations retrospective without the obvious let’s just roll it When i was a young man i had liberty but i did not see it i had time but i did not know it and i had love but i did not feel it Many decades would pass before i understood the meaning of all three and now in the twilight of my life this understanding has passed into contentment love liberty and time once so disposable are the fuels that drive me forward and love most especially miocaro for you our children our brothers and sisters
And for the vast and wonderful world that gave us life and keeps us guessing endless affection near sofia forever yours it’s you auditory And there wasn’t a dry eye left in the house embers is a perfect epilogue to revelations it concludes our story with ezio it introduces xiaoyun it has so much to say about the world about love about freedom about life it’s subtle it’s amazingly put together and it’s simply beautiful
Revelations is a bloody master class in assassins creed done right the fact this game was made in such a short turnaround similar to brotherhood is mind-blowing not only did it act as a strong entry into the series it concluded tied up and involved storylines dating back to the franchise’s inception revelations was
For all intents and purposes an ending point something bridging the old and future assassin’s creed the soundtrack is marvellous jesperkid and lorne valve did an outstanding job crafting it and the main theme evokes so much emotion for me every single time i hear it roger craig smith assetsio is spectacular from
The high-pitched stubborn kid to the wise old man roger does it all and he does it without faltering the meaning behind most of the conversations in this game whether it be suleiman and ahmet ezio and sophia or altair and daryum it holds weight that only cements assassin’s creed as a franchise that can
Do so much but it holds weight that can be applied to the real world it has something important to say about life so when people tell me that i’m nitpicking that my standards are too high or that my critiques of these newer games are unrealistic i point to revelations as a
Beacon to the fact that assassin’s creed has in fact managed to exceed my expectations it just did it 10 years ago thanks for watching oh boy ah okay just gonna stretch it out [ __ ] me that was a long that was a long one thank you guys uh so
Much for watching this video if you made it all the way to the end i [ __ ] appreciate the [ __ ] out of you this was an absolute [ __ ] labor of love i had such a blast writing this playing the game obviously editing it together it’s
Been so fun i’ve done it in such a short amount of time as well because i’ve just been non-stop working on this which is probably bad for me but i’ve i’ve loved it earlier this year when i decided that i didn’t want to buy any future ac games i genuinely felt
Like i was never going to play the old ones again the thought of ezio i hadn’t played the assassins i didn’t want to play it i just didn’t want anything to do with it pushing myself to dive back into revelations to be able to make a video immediately it
All came flooding back to me it felt right i honestly teared up when i started the game um it just felt like i was home that’s not to say the channel is suddenly going to revert to being ac content that’s just not the case but i do plan on talking about
These ones that i love on reminiscing on times gone by that’s what i enjoy doing like i said the future ac games i i don’t want to play them anyway but i also don’t want to support ubisoft because of the things that they’ve done it’s a pretty easy
Decision for me to make i i don’t need to think twice about it but i look forward to reminiscing on on older games whether that be in videos or maybe on future streams talking about streams follow me on twitch the link is in the description twitch.tv it’s last boy come
