Do we have been doing this election just for deep because we found out I say hey that’s your friend bro And it is Thank you [Applause] Thank you this is a song I wrote about 15 years ago I called Jehovah God and this is talking about how God can step in your life and pick broken parts that’s not like him and I’m not gonna move because if I move all these broken parts around me that
Couldn’t scar me I may grow old to be a bitter person if I know an old bitter person so this song gives us a cry out to God that I wrote as a teenager true oh God I revealed my confused heart Step into the selfishness Over gonna be still to avoid the broken heart that cuts That are not like you got not just what I said one by one one by one By one foreign October I’m Gonna Be Still to avoid the broken heart that is God in my life someone by one pick up my heart that I’m not like you got can you help me say people say one by one with us One by one come on help me say it one by one one two Sing one by one Hello And I wrote this I said Jehovah Hear My Cry and I spent around I Hear My Cry I surrender all see one by one sing one by one yeah it may not look good right now You may not feel good right now foreign What is it sing one by one sing one by one created me a clean heart oh God Foreign States the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord and he delighteth in his way I selected that scripture because it definitely describes my cousin Ed he is a Man Who Loved the Lord with all heart he’s also one who allowed the Lord to
Use him so that he could take the lives of others and I’m truly honored today to be able to say that to you all it from from a young child started out being reared up in the church and as he continued to grow and continues to nurture his relationship with the Lord
He also I don’t know if you guys but he’s saying in a gospel group called the highway harmonizes with his mom his sister and a few others so along this journey of faith my cousin also he and by our family traditions and our values we are people who you have
This now standing work ethic we’re going to come to work but we’ll say those days for foreign my cousin Ed also he he loved to serve and to help other people that was that’s one of the joys of family that’s one thing that we love to do he loved education he loved knowledge
And he mind sharing that with others he he gave you what he could give you he shared of himself in this obvious by you know what I see here and some of the members some of the things that I admire the most about my cousin Ed is one of the ministers said
That Joy is laugh when he laughed it was as if the joy of thought was here so he just that’s that’s one of his most admirable qualities for me but not only did he do that he supported his family whether big or small of course he just
When he came to now and those are you no Ed y’all know that he also even as as we you know just kind of hang out and just Kim folks conversation you know I’m just talking to your family he would always drop a little knowledge on you know he’d give
You a question to think about something to ponder and then y’all saw in the midst of that he will tea nothing hurtful nothing harmful but you know he just give you a little something what that really happens so you know and again today as we honor him let us continue his his memory
His service let us do something to honor him now it doesn’t matter whether your family whether your colleague whether you and make sure I say this right because I’m gonna get mad if I made a brother if I made a cigarette sister afraid of Barbados Masonic brother
Classmate friend whatever you are on him if that means speaking life into a child or to a person that that’s in despair you uh buying a meal for a person donating to a charity non-profit organization whatever you can do to keep his memory going
As a family member I I love it I would appreciate it even just paying for those of you who are as you know how we do we pay for children we didn’t even give birth to we pay for field trip we pay for their activities we do all we buy shoes
My school supplies do something to carry on his memory today um as you can tell I love my cousin Ed and I’m really going to miss him as well as everybody here I know you all love my cousin and thank you [Applause] How are you doing I must have a taco so what when it gone Mark you know gotta say what I gotta say going up going to be which is there for us you know everything we ever wanted you mama said no he finally got it anyway
You know this is how it was I remember I remember growing up spending with me and my uh younger brother he was upstairs we reached the baskets and video games and all this stuff talking about the minute we ask him he would show up with it and so it just
He loved us and it was his way he gave you know Christmas is everything he always gave them selfish well keep this uh my last conversation with my uncle uh actually was just a couple weeks ago right before he went into the hospital he was in our house uh recovering from surgery
And uh we got to talking and me and we gonna have conversations that’s uh they’re saying we’ll have conversation but me and my uncle ain’t never talked this long y’all we talked for hours and hours and hours and hours and it was like I don’t know like we’re getting to know
Each other again type deal but lost over short I was telling Mark about you know had a dream and you know about what I want to do about you know me becoming a police officer and stuff like that and my uncle said something to me that I would never forget and I’ve always
Cherish he believed in me he knew that I could do it something that I don’t care for the rest of my life so uh rabbit is getting emotional uh it’s a piece of my uncle I love you love y’all too thank you [Applause] hey everybody um it’s oldest nephew um
It’s just growing up um it was that guy for me he was my first um role model honestly I was introduced to City at a young age because um so he knew my struggle my the young age that was up here singing that’s my mom’s group as well
As a kid I used to hate until the concerts and I used to hate going to Thursday and so as I said Uncle Ed knew my struggle because he grew up through it doing the same thing so saved me he would let me come with him
And I didn’t have to go to the concerts well yeah okay I’m talking about anything that I ever wanted anything y’all uncle’s there and yeah this is hard I ain’t gonna lie it’s hard but um missing and as well as y’allah and I thank y’all for showing y’all love to my uncle
Over this weekend like I I see the giant that he was and as much as he was to me I swear I see that in y’all and um I love you man [Applause] Hello everyone my name is Sharon Harris better known to Ross and Edward as we were growing up their dad had nicknamed me Chevy Ann the name was Sharingan it to me one day he was like Sharon do you want me to tell Daddy to start calling you Sharon
I said ain’t gonna do no good don’t worry about it um we live next door to each other from the late 1960s until sometime in the 80s so you might have say that we’ve known each other for all of our lives our families um were close and Summers and evenings
After school were either spent at Miss man Rosslyn and Edwards or even at the holy names Community Center and some of you all grew up in Memphis you knew about the Holy Name Community Center we were um it was just a a few months older than me
I mean a few months younger than me but he was always the big brother he was always one in charge but he never told us mama left me in charge you and Robin he never said that um but you just knew and he and he just
Knew that role Rawson and I would get into things and we would uh be giggling and talking about boys and we would get that big thick thing I somehow may not know this big thick thing called a telephone book the central Bell book and roster and I will get on that phone now
Mama’s be gone and we will get on there we will be calling people and making prank phone calls he was like you know he wouldn’t say nothing to us but later on when Mom and them came back home mom and Miss Brown get y’all my mama birthday
And um and they would be like what is this with y’all getting on that phone and playing on this telephone um but we knew he was the big brother he always had that big beautiful smile as he got older that voice that deep voice he had
And he would just always be for us even though we were girls so you know he was our protector we uh remember times when our dads would uh take they would convince our mom to take us to the Mid-South Coliseum and to see the wrestling match on Mondays and
They would be telling y’all get them children back home you know because we had to go to school the next day times when Paul Edward would try to help me with that math I tell y’all honey that Master he would be trying to help me with it we were in the same
Grade we grew up together I remember times uh Fourth of July we could uh cause we live right there in North Memphis right there off of chest who could see the fireworks from downtown we would all be sitting on watching the fireworks together we had times we we were like typical
Kids we had a good childhood a wonderful childhood growing up together sometimes we had times when we was hear each other getting whoopings because we write down each other we heard each other getting whoopings and stuff and uh it was like sharing I remember when your
Mama came out of that house and she had her in her hair and you was being so bad she was whipping you I said and please don’t tell me don’t remind me about it and I said it it hurt me more about coming out the house with the robe in
The Roller Zone then and then the whooping did and it was just laughing she just lay but we um we love one another we a lot when you saw one you would see the other one and a lot of times people brothers and sisters because that’s how we were raised together
Well I’ll never forget at times when he would walk roster and I to the bus stop and you know get us on the bus because we want to go shopping we got older we wanted to go to the mall and go shopping and it would say you all come straight
Home now y’all come straight home and I tell you Ross from this last time baby sister and Shelby Anne y’all straight home followed by that big beautiful smile that I did and always a big brother and always a beautiful neighbor and friend thank you [Applause] Amen now if you made it here can you hear me all right follow me I’m only going to tell you you’re it people coming behind you are going to tell you about Mr Jordan brother Jordan master and teacher if you if you turn your program over to that centerpiece that’s the guy I’m
Gonna be talking about from there uh me and Ed met in the fifth and sixth grade we moved down the street from him and I think really that we have houses from each other on Looney Street I’m down in that side now every um March it would get said very sad
During that time she had had an older brother and when he passed you say so I think God sent me down to keep that joke a happy because his older brother Nick Calvin Calvin you know the brother was born in March I’m born in March and we did after that we was together
Throughout the whole time now don’t get it twisted just cause ED loved me to me and everybody in that household look let me showed it no no no no you don’t know where I’m going right I’ll come to that door almost every day before I can get up to that door rise
And be standing there it ain’t at home I come the next day and at home I forget it I’ll call him on the phone she had now you can hear them on the porch but he ain’t at home so we go through from that part there we
Both went to uh Humes Junior High we both was on the track team Ed did the shot put I did the 440 in the mile we was on the tennis team not the tennis you see on TV but more that ghetto style when you do a company
So we left there and went on to uh North Side north side man our favorite hobby really was going to the games because then we go I love sorrow at the Stacy Quinn with the cheerleader now we Rudy both Stacy was a superstar we weren’t even
But the next year we were voted into the gentleman class junior class General now them guys had suits they had coats they matched they were everywhere neither one of them had no money didn’t have a job Ed had clothes because he was in the singing group I got a job at Church’s
Chicken that is working at Church’s Chicken I heard Ed says something that y’all ain’t never heard they have said every day I come home with all that extra chicken one time man I’m tired of chicken yeah y’all ain’t never dead [Applause] but we got our clothes and we got our clothes and then next year we was in the gentlemen’s club and now we were really ready we pimping at everything we what we were still out of Stacy’s group because high school girls don’t date High School guys we was out so
We was out we competed and everything what we did have at that time was a car going to the prom Mama took me and Ed to meet our dates at the prom Bubba’s in there the whole time we was there and watching me the whole time because we didn’t have cell phones at
That time you did not want MC to come on that mic and say hey Jordan Casey Franklin your mama outside Ed followed me that whole night so um at school it was the most uh intelligent I got student of the week a stinking week he got the whole year
So I’m after that it left left high school we both wanted to leave he went to UT and I went into court but we always met up and I like being around him because Ed did this thing he joined some fraternity pretty good for me because every time you stand next to Ed
Women come hug him now I don’t know what the rule is but apparently to zeta’s if you hug a sigma you must hug the guy next to him I got a lot of illegal hugs and I love it now and now one time Stacia came by too
She went up to him talked in cold hey and he said Hey soul roll something like that she come to me she said Casey are you and then I said keep my hood girl keep it going yeah I’m getting my uh but it was around that
One time that he got he said don’t you know Roslyn got married I said yeah no he was telling me he said do you know what her last name is he said Franklin I said good God finally got her back God finally got it for me with her Ed’s
Best friend from that apartment Ed became a Mason I became a Mason and later on 20 years later he brought me into Phi Beta Sigma the one the Air Jordan Collegiate advisor of the year he called me and told me to put in for it I
Didn’t like putting in for Wars he said put in the thing for the thing I you already wanted because it had his name on it so I ended in for that he was on the grievance committee I was on a group’s committee so we’re going back to
Here and getting to the clothing and mother and my mother are buried in the same Cemetery okay that’s in there and I I met that when my time is up me and it would probably be close to only thing that I asked is don’t put Roslyn in between us
When I go to see them you know what she gonna say it ain’t at home [Applause] but I thank you I tell that story to tell you to say not because once you was in with Ed you were in and there’s a lot of people here tonight if it wasn’t here
It’ll be on and a couple of y’all have been waiting it’s gone but uh he was the glue that kept us all here and you can see body love that we have here I get my day later on but we appreciate it family and the rest for helping us coordinate
To do the best we can thank you [Applause] thank you I do acknowledge we have one more resolution from Theta Phi Beta sorority in corporate we have sister Joyce Murphy the 17th Tennessee state director of what life would like to know that certified beta sent a proclamation I
Don’t want to read it for this for the event of the time but it just have a few more expressions I’m going to call to the podium and if you’re on I’m going to ask you to come over here to the second look we can keep the time moving expeditiously but we’re
Going to go to the Kappa Chi chapter on the campus of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and then we’re going to uh expressions from five benefits of fraternity we’re going to have the Collegiate chapter the uh state chapter state agent and then we’re going to have from our International
Fraternity we’re going to come in that order and then I’m gonna come back with the next expression if you will come to this area if you are going to be giving Expressions I’m going to ask you to come over here also as you’re doing your Expressions I’m going to ask that you
Please remember the family let’s make sure we keep those uh remarks at that three-minute Mark if I move my shirt or my collar I mean your time is a you will not have to move your certain or your heart amen praise the Lord everybody come on open your mouth praise the Lord everybody
Amen can we get a hand clap of praise I am going to ask Brother Sam here to come up here and join me I’m also going to ask the brothers of capital chapter of the University of Tennessee now if you don’t understand a number of our brothers who are here today foreign
For being here today God is still a good God isn’t he yes he is pastor this church and to the pulpit and to I think we have a lot of our International officers if I made a Sigma fraternity and all of the leadership of Zeta Phi Beta as well it’s
Just good to be here today you know you always have to start from the beginning we have a lot of sick let’s look around there are a lot of Blue Jackets out there and there are a lot of things but you have to start somewhere and brother
Ed Jordan started his journey in Sigma where at the University of Tennessee at Knox the capricide chapter and we are very very happy to be here to uh to to express our condolences to the sleep because brother Ed meant a whole lot to us you know look at that program what
Was this line name come on say it a little louder his name was Uno that meant that I can do it I might have got a lot done by himself y’all yes he did but Ed was an amazing brother he was dedicated he was determined he was certainly Dependable I am going to
Ask Brother Sam Henderson to have a few words in the world today we’ll come back hey man how y’all doing all right it was my dude my guy I’ma just tell you this man uh I’m gonna miss that it was a good brother he got me involved all Sigma he tricked me
He told me to come he said he was the president of the grand champion I said man I don’t want barbecue he said yeah come on barbecue I said man first of all I don’t want to hang out with them bro he’s dead he said why you don’t want to hang out
With them I said man I don’t want the heck I want to do he said he basically told me he said man what you just like them brothers I said what he’s just like them brothers so I I said okay I came in I barbecued and so then we
I started hanging out with brother the grand chapter and I I’ve enjoyed it and it’s cause I’m gonna miss Ed we went to a lot of track meets we were just in uh Austin Texas for the championship we were looking forward to going to the Olympics when it came back to the States
For the track and field so from yet here I’m gonna have to go and it’s good to see other Greeks from the University of Tennessee that’s here supporting us thank you and we just want y’all let’s give me a donut hand if he meant anything to you
If you could just stand come on let’s give a round a round of applause awesome brother he loved up he loved five Sigma and we were certainly get him God bless your family foreign Good afternoon everyone my name is Tyrion Brown representing the Collegiate chapter alphabet Delta chapter um I’ve only known it for about a year and a half we first met our at my ceremony and from that day he always missed something because he taught me to be prideful and
What I knew and everything how far I’d come he we had to send our fraternity him to him and to him it was very important and while we did sing it correctly he didn’t think I knew it so he told me to sing it by myself and thankfully I did it correctly and
Getting his Blessing and from that day forward he was always helpful towards us and even before then he was helpful after um I love Ed for everything he gave to us face help and I hate that I’m not going to have him or to get any more advice and things for life
But the main thing that he taught me is to be prideful of who I was and the things that I know [Applause] good evening everyone my name is Amir Embry I am a part of the Collegiate chapter the Delta new chapter verse of Memphis and there Jordan was a huge inspiration to
This I first met him at my first grad chapter meeting my youth first grad chapter meeting somebody who just crossed into a fraternity nervous scared to be around all these adults that you did and the first man you meet is like oh calm down we’re not gonna rough you up too much [Applause]
And he’s right they didn’t rough me up too much but he had used heart great advice very wise man and the Delta new chapter I always have a piece of him get advice in their wisdom that he spared upon us thanks [Applause] I’m up here on behalf of the morning on
College Bay today uh for all of you that don’t know but people here think it was from Bay to Zeta but you just found out he was not so one thing Ed knew about the morning on college that we didn’t know is that the most honorable A- Langston Taylor the
Founder one of the founders of Phi Beta signal for Turner Incorporated was born in Memphis Tennessee he graduated from the how into in 1909 which is now over that way the morning on College in Memphis he received his college and Professional Training award and Ed is something about Lemoine and the undergraduates
In Ed eyes the undergraduates can do wrong and his eyes no wrong and you’re gonna find out in the end when we come back questions is that air came to LeMoyne and his ultimate goal was to bring everybody together all the undergraduate chapters so he found a way to get y’all all over
Because y’all don’t know Ed sometimes practice in this church because this was Lemoine saying and y’all heard egg consent so these brothers and just so y’all know because the last couple of weeks it’s hot about y’all and you know I just want to charge you all and the brothers from beta Zeta if
You’re from bz please [Applause] and it was called boot camp for a reason so one thing Ed was talking about in the last couple of weeks was each our job just to be the best and step out the box stop the Box and he charged all the brothers from BZ
To step out the box and you will see in the Reflections at the end why he said that but you are on on campus beta Zeta what an honorable a Langston Taylor went to school [Applause] man y’all look good out there so my name is I’m gonna say good
Afternoon my name is uh Anthony Kimball I’m past president of one of the legendary chat Phi Beta Sigma Tyler the sigma better known as Sigma Memphis my friend distinguished brother uh Edward Jordan he also was a past president of this legendary chapter thinking about um Ed first that knowing Ed he would be
Very happy to see um all his brothers here today he would um he all would be very proud I can see him telling me about this later said Kimball they got a uh I got a store named after me the Jordan store over at the uh school
But one of the things that uh that I want um Ed was big on brotherhood that was the biggest thing I think my brother said that Ed master plan was when we came in the uh from Martinique and all the brothers were you looking at Delta new Lemoine ABD
O and and gam getting these brothers all to come together to form where we have Sigma Memphis because you have different sections of that but his biggest role and I think one of his uh Legacy that he brought all these different Brothers together he did and in his way so I’m gonna tell
You um it had a lot of besides the Brotherhood it had a lot of weird about him love is uh wet because like we would talk a lot and um one time we I think we’re going to Kansas City or St Louis and I was picking up and uh the day before
Um his house got broken into and um he said Kimball I don’t know if I’m gonna go I said no you need to you need to go and we uh we can make it and so okay I’m gonna go and so we driving I’m driving actually
Because he was with my driving if I was wondering I’m I’m in the Drive apartment but I was always the one doing the driving it was sitting on the other side so um it got in that uh Kimball I don’t know what’s going on I’ve just been having to
Uh bad luck here lately um like I said his house got broken in uh like maybe two months before that it was in the brothers remember he was in the hospital before uh for for a minute and then before that he had his uh um uh car got broken in all this happened
Within the four months uh period of Spain he said I just don’t know and then I look I looked it in and I said you know what here maybe I’ll tell you something and then Ed did this he gave me that look that I just say
Something else I’m not gonna say what he wanted to say hit the church to make on this is that after that it we’re driving I look over there it’s they knocked out when you driving and my wife called and she said hey we got a a bill about much like guys some
Water you owe 300 you didn’t pay the bill I said nah I paid the bill and um I said that I paid to be a matter of fact they owe me money they owe me like uh thirteen hundred dollars and my wife was going back and forth and I said okay I’m
Gonna call Memphis like gas and water when I get back uh all right hung up the phone and then it turned through now it is sleep during this whole conversation it looks up at me and Kimball you owe 300 I’m getting the pool y’all uh you owe
300 and then I said nah and I don’t know uh three hundred dollars he said Kimbo I know what it is I said what God’s changes thank you so one last thing uh from the past from the past presidents we wanted to give the family a tribute uh we have a a
Sigma flag it was hand hey uh we’ll give it to the uh family thank you good afternoon everyone so I am TJ Lewis uh representing the region along with our region director uh brother Brandon Hill uh as the Collegiate said I first met Ed when I was online 25 years ago
And so he’s been participating in lines uh probably longer than that uh I joined the alumni Channel actually he was from the hills line too but I joined the alumni chapter shortly after I graduated from college uh mainly because I didn’t love my chapter and I was like
I’m gonna go in there and I’m gonna change it and then I met Ed and we traveled he was serving as a state slash area director for five region directors yes five in a row so 20 plus years of being the state and area director and I started going on
Those road trips with him to mileage to uh University of Tennessee at Martin I actually thought he was a Alum of UT Martin when I first met him that’s where he was always going we traveled there the most and uh from there I learned so much about in my journey just progressed
To I became Regional director at one point I was running behind and he was running behind me and he ultimately served on the Grievous because well he was serving on the Grievous committee for years before then so all of a sudden from him from traveling with the
Collegiates he stopped letting me go him once I got my Regional Offices and then when these gentlemen ride trouble that part is true and one moment he’ll be like uh I don’t I don’t think they did anything wrong he’s like the guy was almost in the hospital was he really so
It was always sad he always was trying to protect him uh one last thing we were in Kansas City I think this is another Brand store we were in Kansas City and Delta knew got into a fight with brother uh the newest honorable Joshua Busby’s chapter beta Epsilon
And I was gonna skip that whole fight I was on the elevator going up and it was like a movie the door opened and they just fell into the elevator fighting and we ended up staying those Brothers Well we stayed over Delta new to about six
O’clock in the morning then we said we had to stop we had to go get ready because board meeting at eight o’clock in the morning then we was leaving to go drive back to Memphis it was me Mario and Ed and the same kind of Mario to uh
Kimball’s point it is always trying to go to sleep in the car he never asked but me and Mario were arguing with each other who’s gonna drive first it was like I’m driving first snatched the keys out of Mario hand this is a long driveway we drove to the end of the
Driveway turned the right at the stop sign and we went two blocks up to a red light I was turning around talking to Mario and I was like I feel like we’ve been sitting here for a long time and I look back and the light was going from
To the red it still got both his hands on the stairs were asleep so he’s like I thought I was gonna make it no pull it over when we drove but you hear a lot of people talk about how what it meant to them to me
Uh I’m not originally from here I’m from Chicago it’s like family to me he he and the and a lot of the brothers uh from the alumni chapter are all that you can have we have this poem that said my friend is one who stands by you it matters not
What you may do when the sunshine a friend in Rain a friend in health a friend in pain no matter what life may bring a friend’s towards claim yeah Jordan you are my friend brother West real [Applause] uh for some of you who did not read the protocol manual
I’m gonna work with you right now I need all the babies even fraternity to extend themselves upward and acknowledge the 32nd International president of 58 student fraternities [Applause] you know and you’ll probably have to take off your jacket before I think because I’ve got a lot of it stories to tell
Ed was a a joker he teased a lot but I could tease better than Ed I’m probably a few people in here that knew Ed when he was in the Collegiate chapter at the University of Tennessee Knoxville because I was in this from that chapter there at the University of
Tennessee in Knoxville and Ed and I over the years we became I mean friends and um the first we were at a conferences someplace and it introduced me to Sam and and I told Sam at that point and I said Sam I think you need a better friend
And that is you cannot have a better friend than Ed and Ed indeed [Applause] when Ed came to Memphis and eight years ago I moved back to the saf region I moved to Little Rock and I was at a a a Regional Conference and and I saw it tell it I said
And when I get home I’m gonna tell my wife that for me that I’ve moved back in the southwest region where the real men are and you got to take a drink I don’t drink but I told Ed I was gonna tell my wife that and so he laughed and
It and when I get home I tell my wife and and she said what’s his name I said his name is Ed Jordan and he told me that I’m here with the man and I got to learn how to drink so I go to the next Regional Conference
And then air and I get on my cell phone and I call my wife and I tell I’m here with Ed he’s telling me that I got to drink and I need to get the bail money out of the cookie jar and come and bail me out
Of jail because I know they’re gonna get me for public Trucking and I went home and I said you know I’ve got to make this a little bit better than what it is because Ed nor my wifey the one that’s falling for this story so I I get one of these little
Contained a little small container of of whiskey I don’t know what it was because and and so I take it and and get to my driveway and I gargle with it and and then and I go in the house and they could tell me drink it I said well I was within
If Ed told me that I had to drink and so she goes on and on and she buys it this and then we were at um a conclave in Las Vegas and Ed was sitting there and I told her I said big kid he’s the one that makes me drink and
And she plays all with the story now and so Ed trying to explain no I didn’t do it yes it did you know I don’t drink and I can’t mess with like alcohol but you know it had to make me do that all right you know doing my term as presidents
I had the opportunity to recognize in what he was I had the opportunity to give in to recognize him I didn’t give him anything ever it was an award changing lives through surface and even here that came in contact with Ed Ed changed their life because Ed served
And then I tell my friend I will not drink but I will tell everybody that had me drink so my friend uh your rest in peace because you have worked hard [Applause] all right now on behalf of the general board if I had a signal Fraternity Incorporated
And our honorable broth said Chris B Ray my name is director for 586 Fraternity Incorporated and I’ve come to tell you not an edge story but a story so that y’all can understand what’s going on you say well how does the international arm of living fraternity come to a local Brother’s funeral
Well don’t get it twisted only here for over 40 years I am one of the ones who went to that concrete Palace at the University of Tennessee Knoxville where they took folks I said I don’t think this is right but I’m gonna work with you It was a great advocate it was a fixer being with it was like being on the episode of equalizer you just didn’t know what was going to happen but it may be some shoes In deference to the family and certainly no disrespect to my brothers of Chelsea large before knowing Ed Jordan meant you had a relationship with 586 Fraternity Incorporated it meant you had a relationship with Zeta Phi Beta sorority Incorporated because it operated in the sphere that he did not have to be acknowledged
He didn’t have to be rewarded everything he did on behalf of the organization you could take it however you wanted to y’all said in Ed’s eyes these Collegiates could do no wrong but in the inside of the alumni I couldn’t do wrong either and as I wasn’t nobody doing wrong
When I was Regional director Ian used to go with me to some of these campus visits now they talked about when they used to go when I took campus it was generally shut that thing down by the time I got there it had Twisted the whole story
And we end up rewarding people we were supposed to shut down and I was like how does this work but to know is was a no Sigma is bandwidth was Broad he didn’t have to be a national officer for you to treat him as such it was just being one of the Premier
Advisors not in Memphis not in the southwestern region but he had a signal Fraternity Incorporated I’ve been sitting here watching y’all and it’s been somewhat interesting to me because we’re talking about celebrating but I’ve never known people to celebrate in silence so I’m not sure what’s going
On with you Sigma today but we’re talking about hey give me a little bit louder the Lord to hear you ever sleep in here I heard that they knew all right brother everybody here needs to be standing up because we’re talking about hey that’s okay that’s okay
And hear me say this hear me say this a lot of people talking about we’re going to be able to replace it you are exactly correct there is no replacement for Air Jordan there’s an understanding that sometimes we’re unique in our greatness it was very you hear me say it it was the
Epitome if I made a second Fraternity Incorporated and it is difficult it’s difficult for me to see people trying to connect this is not the time this is not the place you acknowledge Him and you acknowledge them for the fact that your life is better because of what he did
I’m in here would have been suspended had it not been for him [Applause] so as you continue to go through this day understand you just got to acknowledge what was going on it is so ironic we’re celebrating the homegoing of Air Jordan this weekend because y’all know
We would have been back in the day in the corner of Central and Hollywood on that Hill they would have been cooking all night we would have been eating Circle B sausages also White colony bread [Laughter] we are here because of it I’ve seen people from across the region here because of it
Don’t get this Twisted we now we love the Lord he gave us Ed and we’ll never get another one like him [Applause] come on there we go we have the international director and past International director here so be with this family well let’s give it up give it up on
If y’all was just indulged with us just for a few more minutes we have a few more Expressions but at this time bring our only true brother sister fraternity that freaked up so I want to bring up at this time the ladies upstairs incorporate the sisters I said if my baby would you
Please rise as the state director come forward and the chapter presence would you please come [Applause] God is good and all the time there’s a sweet spirit in this place brother Edward Earl Jordan leaves a legacy of passion in caring for others always exhibiting Prime professionalism
As he touched the lives of many he served our brothers a Phi Beta Sigma fraternity Incorporated and several compassions he was fun loving and energetic he will forever soar high in the hearts and minds of all who was fortunate enough to encounter him for his love for Zeta Phi Beta sorority
Incorporated will forever transcend may his love for his family church Phi Beta Sigma fraternity Incorporated Zeta Phi Beta sorority Incorporated and Mankind’s samples for all of us we mourn with his loving family his sister Roslyn Franklin his three neph and of course the brothers of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity Incorporated but yet we
Celebrate his amazing life first of Zeta Phi Beta sorority incorporated the state of Tennessee we give our heartfelt sympathy to the late brother Edward L George family thank you we have three more Expressions I’m going to ask for the most worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Tennessee Chelsea
Number 32 324 would you come forward immediately after them we’re going to have representative from Levi Elementary and Robert R Church Elementary if you will come in that matter good afternoon on behalf of the most worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge in Tennessee and Chelsea lodge number 324.
We want to talk about our brother Edward bow tie Jordan it was a light in the lodge when Ed walked into the lodge you listened when he said something you paid attention for those of us that know it he asked a lot of questions the thing that I learned about Ed was
That he wasn’t asking those questions for him he was asking those questions for us he knew the answers to most of the questions that he asked he was asking those questions because he wanted us to learn he wanted us to know he wanted us to know what was going on
And I appreciate that a lot about him one of the mottos in masonry is that we lived to make good men better and that is what he had did he challenged us he made us be better and we will always forget him so to our brother Ed Jordan travel life foreign
Good afternoon to my second family as you know I am a Zeta also my name is Dr Janice tangson and I was the principal of Levi Elementary for 10 years and on today I bring you love Comfort gratefulness and sweet memories at this beautiful homegoing celebration for Mr Edward Jordan
And the behalf of Levi Elementary and Memphis Shelby County Schools if you have ever attended Levi Elementary as a student a teacher parent administrator faculty or staff member would you please stand amen [Applause] when we found out about our dear friend receiving his wings and went to be with our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ we were hurt saddened and even broke into a degree for not being able to see our friend again on this Earth but the Bible says in second Corinthians 5 8 to be present from the body is to be present I’m sorry to be absent from the body is
To be present with the Lord that gives us comfort in knowing we will see Mr Jordan again we would like to take a few moments and share with you the type of man that we have the opportunity to work with Mr Jordan wore many hats Mr Jordan was a brother
A teacher a counselor a protector provider even a lawyer from which you can see he had to defend many students when they had to come to me knowing they were faith in their Courtyard no and true friend to the family of Levi there was nothing people would not ask
Of him that he would not try and provide he was the best griller we had ever had when we had parties Mr Jordan was the center of attention because we know he would bring the best food our African-American boys had a special place in his heart teachers knew that if they were dealing
With a student that was just not having the best day they could depend on Mr Jordan to step in and provide assistance with that young man the students and teachers loved Mr Jordan we all did he even got my favorite fraternity Phi Beta Sigma fraternities my brothers to adopt our school
And when that happened the flood gates of Heaven opened up for my students many of you may not know but we go way back after being principal for a few years I asked Mr Jordan to please come join me I needed his help and that was
One of the best decisions I could have ever made he even followed me to Robert our church Elementary now that’s what you call a true brother to the beautiful family of Mr Edward Jordan and the blue and white family may God give you peace and comfort in
Your hearts and know that he is with our Lord and is in peace you are in our prayers and may God continue to bless and keep you close to Jesus Christ in his name God be with you always forever thank you [Applause] good afternoon I am principal Pfeiffer of the Robert R
Church Elementary School the last place that Mr Jordan worked for Memphis Shelby County Schools um we had a celebration for Mr Jordan on Friday and I got up to speak about Mr Jordan then and I talked about how I couldn’t find the words to describe someone that
You you there are the words that can describe him that’s not enough so I want to just come up here and just say we loved Mr Jordan everything that everyone has said about Mr Jordan if you never had a chance to be in the same space with Mr Jordan you may not
Quite quite understand why we feel the way we feel about Mr Jordan and everyone was talking about how Mr Jordan loved to sleep well I got one one for you too so as you know towards the end for Mr Jordan he was tired you know Mr Jordan would have
Some medical things going on so he was always tired but Mr Jordan always showed up for work he always gave he always no matter what it was he would always give so I was always worried about Mr Jordan I was always checking up on him trying to make
Sure he was okay to make sure that I couldn’t do anything to help him because I always felt best when Mr Jordan was in the building I just felt good because I know I had someone there that not only love what he was doing but he loved the people he was
Doing it with but one particular day I was he was not feeling well everybody kept coming into my office and saying Mr fight for Mr Jordan is that I don’t think he’s feeling well I said it’s easy though he’s okay he said no he’s not he’s not he’s not doing well
So I go into the office I said between you okay yeah I’m fine I’m good I’m good so I have a camera system so I click the cameras Focus right on Mr Jordan and I saw Mr Jordan there to sleep so I walked back into the main office I
Said Mr Jordan that’s what you doing over there I said are you sleep oh no I’m not I’m not I’m not sleeping I’m not asleep I’m not asleep uh I’m over here just I’m okay and I said Mr Joe you know it’s time for you to you know don’t you go ahead and
Take care of yourself now I want to be here because I love being here and I have to pause for a second because every single day we may complain about life and the things we go through in life but if someone can give their last their last
For not for them but for you and everybody else that they serve then we should never complain so I want to say to the family we will never complain even though we’re saddened by Mr Jordan leaving us Mr Jordan has left a legacy for us a blueprint and it’s kind of funny you
Say blue huh he left a blueprint for us to follow for service sacrifice and how to love Mr Jordan we love you and the robot Church elementary school thank you for being a part of our family and most importantly thank you for allowing us to be in your space thank you all [Applause]
Acknowledgments the family would like to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to everyone for your expressions of kindness during our time of bereavement thank you for your prayers visits texts phone calls cards flowers meals and every act of kindness given the family we will help All right this is you heard the scripture about proverbs to bring some closure to the expression uh these last couple of months Ed has been talking to me about a lot of people and you will hear from me he made sure that I went to conclave this year
I used to be out of time doing basketball or something with the kids and Ed made sure That I went to conclave it was my first conclave that I’ve ever went to and it was an experience I loved it and I shared it with the brothers to bring this in a full circle lean in a little bit and just listen and I told Rosner and I told the boys
What a lot of y’all don’t know you might have known Ed longer than me but Ed and I we stay together in every house since I first came to Memphis from fall 88. that mean I was 21. and I’ve been knowing him for 35 years and the family he knew
That I had no family here didn’t know nothing about no fraternity was in the streets if it was not because of Ed my fall 88 Brothers if you in the building stand up it was 10 of us and all of us were freshmen all of us were freshmen
Ed said it’s something different about you all I told you who went to school here stay with me and you’re gonna understand because what God has planned you ain’t gonna change that bouncing down uh where the weight was yesterday see God is humorous too that was the last place we stayed
On Hunter Street in North Memphis one of the roughest streets in Memphis but the fraternity Brothers changed a whole bunch of lives on that street you go down from 3-6 Mafia and all of them they used to come down to the house and Ed would open the door so from there
You wondering why we’re here told you it’s a lot of y’all would talk to I took you backwards because sometimes that’s what God would do hey I first met him here across the street Lemoine didn’t have any dorms fall 88. see a lot of y’all thought Ed was a member BZ
God then took the full circle and brought egg back here because we know as the grand chapter if you’re in the grad chapter please stand up because Ed talked about this a lot and I’m sharing it with you now if you an alumni chapter the grad chapter please stand up
Ed was speaking to us before he left and this way you’re gonna hear me you remember we got back and I said it’s time for us to get uncomfortable being comfortable I didn’t know this is what God was talking about because we depended on Ed so much in all of our lives
But God said it’s time to get uncomfortable being comfortable to make this Legacy go on this is all God the family already know Gotham brought him all the way back and look at everybody in the building and we all got stores and just know don’t let the stories go
Down in the ground with the casket and live on I want everybody on three to say Tennessee one two three Tennessee that was his favorite team we’re gonna have a musical selection by Jeanette Bethany the first lady of Bethany Temple Outreach Ministry and we will have our eulogy by Dr Henry Hargrove amen
Praise the Lord everybody amen I honor God for being here on today give honor to the speaker on today Governor to my husband Bishop Bethany and to this family amen amen this is beautiful to me because I grew up with Ed as well we I went to him
Junior High I went to Northside but I never knew Ed was into all of this feels a lot but I was glad to hear that you know he he was so involved amen but I’m not going to prolong the time because there’s time has been well spent I’m going insane Through these I keep on down Charlie Lovely To the stone and Rain A person you’re waiting and watching To come again again I wanna walk over here [Applause] Foreign [Applause] Right now [Applause] I wanna walk It’s gone please Now happy happy The game tonight [Applause] Ah I wanna walk down Oh God I don’t know how I got here but I’m here Lord I don’t know what you’re doing Lord I don’t even know how you’re moving but you’re moving essentially here was somebody heal something delivered now let the words of my mouth meditation of my heart
Be acceptable and I excited oh Lord You Are My Strength I’m not Redeemer if God say amen amen every month during the fraternity meetings I do uh report y’all pray for it because I’m always the last on the list and I noticed by the time I get up everybody to leave
Doing it again it’s 252. almost 253. y’all gonna listen to what I got to say I’m not gonna shortcut I’m not gonna cut it off because God somehow brought me here here protocol has already been set to this wonderful family thank you all to my brothers thank you for all of you who are here what a wonderful place and a wonderful time it is to just to be in the house of
The Lord family I extend to you my heartfelt condolences although your hearts may be aching know that God is a very present help in time of need away from the Lord comes from the book of Isaiah chapter 53 and verse 3. from the NIV version it says he was
Despised and rejected by mankind a man of suffering and familiar with pain like one whom people hid their faces he was despised and we held him in low esteem I don’t want to talk to you for a few moments about faith to endure now your obituaries gives you a short
Bite of brother Edward Jordan’s life Journey yet the half hadn’t been told and like so many of us had some good times he has some easy time he has some struggles he had some pain even some suffering there were times when he actually awaken night wondering what the next second
Next minute next hour next day would rent you know life and death can be so unpredictable unknown brother Air Jordan for quite a while now through our fraternity he was one that left the legacy of kindness laughter respect and unwavering strength it was said that brother Ed had the ability to light
Up in a room with his prey he was a warrior brother Ed spent his life serving and giving his passion and drive led him to be active in changing the lives of many folks around him yes he stood tall among the Giants I had no doubt that Edward Troy knew who
He was and walked in his own shoes his gift was evident in his service but those gifts came with the cost can you imagine some of the issues that brother Ann learned to endure during his time on Earth times when the pain was so deep that appeal it’s here
Another human being couldn’t ease him times when he just had to bury it off times when one problem after another problem just showed up in his life you know life is a journey filled with so many lessons the hardships that headaches the heartaches Joys and celebration special moments all
Ultimately lead us to a destination where we can find purpose in life those who have lived any length of time are well acquainted with struggled in pain and even greater it’s in those times y’all those times that you learn how to endure we learn in the midst of those times now
How to hold on to faith we accept the fact that good and bad life and death and even grief is an inescapable part of life you can’t avoid all grief but we can’t avoid the destruction that grief can cause even so we are not acquainted with grief in the same way
Our Lord was acquainted with it the Lord Jesus suffered cruel treatment and gave up his life willingly so that all who believed in him might not perish but be given peace with God we can have his inner peace guarding our hearts even right now for by his stripes we are healed
Not heal or healing of the body but an everlasting healing of the spirit and the Forgiveness of going through is part of the journey it hurts but it’s hard on it you see starting things can be easy but finishing well that’s the difficult part starting a new diet
Or exercise program it’s kind of fun and easy but hanging in there over the Long Haul is a real test getting married is exciting stand marriage marriage through the struggles do it the adjustments and the trial is the difficult part same is true of the Christian Life becoming a Christian is easy
Acknowledging to God you receive a free gift of eternal life that Christ provided by his shed blood you may even acknowledge that you cannot work for salvation nor do anything to qualify for it it’s a free gift a free gift from God you say you trust Christ now that’s easy
But then comes the hard part hanging in there as a Christian in a world that’s hostile towards God and his people sometimes get difficult dealing with soul flesh and that sinful nature that entices you to forsake Christ the enemy hits you with one Temptation after another Temptation the real test
Of your faith is where you endure will you hold on just because they turn their back where you indoor when you don’t feel like you have a friend in this world wigging door after you’ve conquered the battle growing up and then life became you can’t get real with you will you
Endure when you have given your all and it seems to ask if you’re all just think we can do it when you go to the doctor and get a diagnosis a diagnosis of heart disease diabetes yes will you endure when the weight of this world begins to take its toll on you in
The heart just start feeling your body begins to slow down and then it even shuts down question to you is will you endure you see genuine faith in Christ perseveres to the finish line this Christian race is a marathon not a hundred yard dash if you see someone finish and you ought
To try to find out their secret and from the sidelines sister brother Ed like the Apostle Paul was such a person their brother went through to some is as if he crossed the Finish Line with ease the Apostle Paul says I’m already being poured out like a drink offering that
Time of my departure is near I have fought the good fight I have finished the race I have the faith now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness which the Lord the righteous judge would award me on that day and not only to me
But also to all who have long for his Appeals all is saying to Timothy you take over now I’m about to leave here I gave it my all now these are not words of a discouraged broken old man there’s no despair no defeat no sarcasm and no fear
And you and whom and what he believed he lived a hand that was gift that were given in spite of the many dark days and a plethora of sleepless nights the Apostle Paul labored with his work some folks as soon as a problem come they run and turn back many turn away
From the age Apostle and even from the faith to follow false teachers but Paul kept on preaching the gospel he knew he was about to die but he was confident in the way he has spent his life he didn’t have to worry about a thing
Paul knew where he was going and in whom he believed he was going to a place where the wicked was seeked from trouble and a weary would be at rest my question to you today again is how are you going to finish your race what are you going to do
I have a few points I’m an old Baptist preacher past present future three points reproduction sacrifice and departure reproduction Paul could finish well because he had reproduced himself in others Paul in essence says to Timothy even when he gets hard Timothy preach the world be prepared in season and out of season
Correct rebuke and encourage and do it with great patience and careful instruction preach it even in the face of opposition just keep on preaching y’all heard it before ED practice and strive to be a man mentor it’s strive to give then sacrifice Paul could finish well because he viewed
His life as an offering to God everything is well because he knew that he was in God’s hands his journey was his journey and no one could travel with him I don’t know if Ed ever said to his family or close friends that his journey was a fan either way
He had to live it am I present it was what the old school would call dignified he held his head ha to finish well view all of life as an act of worship Romans 12 and 1 says therefore I urge you brethren by the mercies of God to present your
Bodies and live in your holy sacrifice acceptable to God which is your spiritual service of worship you don’t serve Christ you don’t serve others in order to get praise in a claim from Folk you serve Christ as an act of worship toward him then you prepare yourself for departure
You got to leave here Paul could finish well because he viewed his opinion debt as a departure in the Bible that is not cessation of existence but rather a separation of the soul from the body it’s a departure definitely the end of your labor and Taurus in this life death
Is a release from the bonds of this corruptible body look at it this way at death the battle is over and the Victory is why yes and we are headed home if you view death as departure you will be able to finish without fear and even anticipation knowing that to depart and
Be with Christ is much better you will be able to say with him in Philippians 1 and 21 for me to live is Christ but to die is okay now again don’t get the Twisters brother Daryl was saying some people because no they are so overwhelmed with trials and headaches
And pains that come from living their directionless life desire to die it’s a wild View and an empty Escape they do and say whatever they want to thinking that it doesn’t matter how they live nor how they treat their fellow men but I’m telling you right now it matters
It matters how you treat people be mindful how you walk over someone’s that’s cleaning your room From This Moment forward look at that as God views it in Psalms 116 verse 15 the Bible says precious in the sight of the lord it’s the death of his holy his Godly one
The World Views it as a terrible thing but God used it as a precious for those who are righteous I choose to look at death as a new beginning a passageway into his presence now Romans 8 concludes if God before us who can be against us who shall lay any
Charge against God’s elect then it says who shall separate us from the love of Christ now that’s a rhetorical question educators the important thing to realize about a rhetorical question is that it’s used to emphasize a statement you can reverse the question to read God is for us
So no one can be against us no one can lay in a charge against us your God there’s nothing that can ever separate me separate us from the love of Christ nothing question to bring it home is that we need insurance about all of that you read the scriptures and you know text
But you need assurance and no doubt even right now we need some assurance we need some Assurance for this whole body and for the soul for life and for death we need Assurance for the past and the sins for our sins and the sins of Adam we need Assurance for the present
And the trials and the struggles that we go through the Temptations that we face we need Assurance for the future for the unknown the uncertain we need assured for the Judgment Day when we all stand before Christ the judge and we have that assurance as God’s people if God taught us
Who can be against us who shall separate us from the love right this hurt but God is still in control and he’s been in control all of them in faith God is waiting for the perfect time even right now to speak so so you can hear
The proof is in the word of God Psalms 139 7 and then 9-12 ask the question where can I go hmm from your spirit where can I flee from your presence if I settle on the far side of the sea even there your hands were God
Your right hand will hold me faster if I say surely the darkness will hide me and the light becomes night around me even Darkness would not be dark to you can’t run and you show okay how so I’m convinced I’m convinced that God loves us so much that he sent his son Jesus
To die for the sins of this world walk this Earth declaring that he was the way the truth and the light crucified him and yelled him to their Old Rugged Cross hung there from the 6th to the ninth hour then he died they placed him in a baritone
Three days later y’all he got it with all power in his hand those that die in the Lord shall live again from I am persuaded again I am persuaded that neither death nor life nor angels nor principalities nor powers nor things present nor things to come not nor height nor death
Nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus be not dismissed would ever be time God will take care of you beneath his wings of Love upon God will take care of you God will take care of you though every day all
The way God will take care of you he will he will take care of you in the name of the father son and the holy spirit amen amen I want to give God [Applause] thank you amen just want to remind everyone that the burial will occur on Monday
At the Pleasant Rest Memorial Gardens it’s located at 3774 Raleigh Millington Road Memphis Tennessee if you’re going to be at the burial we’re going to ask that you beat the family at 11 45 a.m 11 45. thank you accomplished in the direction would you stand with us please Thank you Thank you No no no no no no okay Foreign Foreign Thank you Foreign Thank you Foreign Foreign Thank you Because
