Council is full of the black Greek letter organizations of here did I say that correctly nicely no it’s back-to-school time so I feel like this is the perfect time for people that might be searching for you know different information on joining a sorority in college cuz I know that’s
What I was looking for yep what were you looking for so yeah without further ado let’s get to week I am a member of Zeta Phi Beta just already incorporated spring sixteen at the Musee chapter at NC State University and I am a spring 70 initiative of the Kappa Omicron chapter
Of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority some questions what made you want to join a sorority period and then yours in particular just know that the relationship I help my sisters and how that was at home and wanted to emulate that same energy on campus at how that same relationship with people on campus
Growing up I always kind of knew that I wanted to be in a sorority and my sorority in particular because I grew up around a lot of Zetas and Sigma’s so I kind of already had that in the back of my mind that this was something that I
Wanted to do but when I got onto campus and really being able to see the chapter like I said that means I chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and I really just fell in love because I don’t know their energy was so I felt like I could really relate and connect
With them like it wasn’t it didn’t throw me off as if it was like standoffish or you know what I mean like it was very welcoming and open and kind and that was kind of what I wanted especially coming in as a freshman the fact that the chapter was really just you know
Welcoming and kind drew me toward that chapter hey guys I would say that after joining your organization – impacted your overall college experience so I’m gonna be feel more like home again um had just known that I had some people to relate to some women to relate to on
Campus and this is the community was importantly mhm I feel like I was able to step out of my comfort zone like having to put on events and actually host them and talk to a lot of people meet different people like really represent your organization was something that I didn’t really have
To do in high school like I didn’t really have to be outside of my yeah be are outside of my friends or talk to different people you know is separate my group so it really allowed me to connect with a lot of people I didn’t feel like
I would have connected with otherwise so yeah it just gave me something to look forward to and really have a passion for and love so myths and stereotypes just how you interact with other organizations that really we think it’s Co aesthetic there’s no beef like it’s
Like fun I guess the answer is like well you are the first and everything because you know it only took five funny games like you’ll you’ll hit about it like you’re joking by the way there’s no serious like yeah I care yeah I I don’t know I feel like all the
Myths and stuff or the stereotypes I feel like it depends on your campus too because we didn’t go to an HBCU but you know we hear different things to that sometimes at HBCUs it might be a different story and there might be a little more beef it might just be
Certain chapters had something happened with another chapter and that’s it started beef but like overall we sitting here right now we are letters should enhance who you are but not change who you are and if you allow your letters to change you that way so be it valuate
What organization you want to be a part of based off of their principles their values and how you feel like they connect don’t let it steer you away because of saying like oh they might be too stuck-up like I’m not like that I’m more quiet or you know those are only
For bigger girls like those are only for you know petite ones yeah yeah exactly so I guess that’s my point yeah what did joining our organization teach you about yourself no this would be persistent in what you want if you set your mind as something go after it don’t
Let anyone say you know II’s don’t follow into those serials I said you know something’s for you it’s for esa’s and as my name says fears nonconformist don’t conform sia tea and societies you know way of thinking on what you need to do or what you need to look like to be a
Part of something bigger than yourself right so but it definitely taught me how how much Drive I have like really like she said not quitting like go if you want something like going for it and like putting your all into something and finding passion for something and really
Like making sure that it’s quality over how fast you can do it because this video is gonna be honest like you this isn’t saying everything’s gonna become called you’re gonna be at odds sometimes like you’re gonna have arguments sometimes too but it’s like nobody outside of your organization should know
What yeah it’s like keeping in the house or whatever they call it what is it keep it in the family like keep your business inside whether you have a prom with your sister or not so she’s not on the streets okay okay right now I like it how should one express
Interest for an organization that they are interested in I’m not going to pushy everyone’s human so of course speak to those who are you are interested in pursuing their organization so if you see an egg a walking I know passing and going to classes feet don’t be like okay
But but not to be too pushy or to extra about it like it’s not like going up in and showing enthusiasm him listen to those events yeah like like Norma big gap in a kid like yeah show up late speak be respectable mmm-hmm yeah I’ll be using parties
Acting like it’s almost like a job that you’re interested in you’re not gonna show up late to the interview you’re you at the same time simultaneously trying to see how the organization fits for you you know I mean so it’s like you don’t want to fake the funk and act like
Something that you’re not but 2:03 yeah you’ll see right through that kind of like Pyaasa said don’t I wouldn’t try to force a relationship with somebody because you know that you want to be in their organization make sure that those relationships are organic and sometimes that’s how you
Find out that you’re interested in an organization when you become friends with somebody that’s a part of something you’re like wow I really like this like can you tell me more about what you’re involved in and I know a lot of people only know if aks and Delta’s before they
Go to college like they don’t know if the other sororities like Zeta Phi Beta and Sigma Gamma Rho maybe in the future I’ll have a video with more representation from the other organizations but a lot of people come in and that’s all they know so if that’s
What they know and they only want to go to those events all the time and you don’t even know if you like that chapter it’s kind of like you lost another chance too so it’s like you know yourself figure out what you like and show support where you want to show
Support you go on the website what’s that so yeah yeah as far as broad definitely can one participate in other activities on campus when they join a Greek organization absolutely what is represent this shouldn’t take your whole life away now if anything it should like open up more of those opportunities bringing
That in to collaborate with other might be in so if you’re part of the Women’s Center you want the women’s image to have host in the event for I guess aka so whatever because I was in the black business Student Association and there were a lot of events that we like
Collaborated on because I was able to be that liaison in that connector here in college for education like of course is you know great to be a part of a sorority or fraternity but like you’re in college for your education and eventually to get out and get a job and
That kind of gets into the next question so what are some of the long-term benefits you don’t know ten years from now you might be in a job interview and it could be a Zeta or it could be an aka that’s interviewing you and you have that kind
Of like connector that’s control OSHA with it it’s it’s kind of something that will automatically connect you in some way to somebody so long term it could really help you out when I go going on – I guess my new but like looking for someone glad to linger who as I’m
Umbrella or run-up in it just so y’all can sit together y’all can go through this program together just know they already have each other’s back just because you already have one commonality specifically for my organization if I see some segments because that’s our brother organization man like hey fry
You know I mean like being able to connect with those people you never know who you’re gonna meet and if y’all have the same letters on or lanyards or things like that like represent it and you have that connection right I think what separates
A PhD from a lotta or the other type of councils is that it is my long-term it is definitely more long-term like you can join a graduate chapter in your graduate chapters connected with a undergrad chapter and it’s like it’s a constant cycle I feel like you’re not
Just going to quit after college that’s an embarrassing just to get there and then yeah you’re always you’re gonna always be remember like once remember you’re always gonna be a member and that’s something that I really you know like even if you’re having like financial problems and it might be a
Year where you know what I mean like you’re going through stuff there’s other stories I can kind of be there for you and assist you with that and I show you out for it but kind of being like you know what like you’re still a member like you’re still going to be
Taking it as that so it’s definitely long-term and it’s a long-term commitment how much time will one have to put into a Greek organization so you make it what you want to make it basically if you want to pick up a position if you want to be the president she’s a lame interim
President vice president treasurer yeah then of course you would need more time and more energy into the organization but if you want to just cross and just be there as the Moses that too but you know you should not go for that like just crossing and oh I just want to
Weigh these lilies at the party in the show and some people may not know what crossing means so I’ll say when you yeah I explain when you intake will you go over into the organization I don’t look at it as a um as a another complication
But like something that you yeah or just another club but something that you really feel passionate about and that you want to see grow and develop into something even bigger and you know bring in more members and things like that so it’s up to you but I didn’t leave a lot
Of time into my chapter because we were smaller in chapter 2 so you know pick up let’s go and pick up multi-role multiple roles and step up where you need to because at the end of the day you have an angle on you know wanting it to be
Great so I definitely put a lot of time and that’s kind of what helped me grow as a person because I had to know how to manage my time better and juggle multiple things also we’re keeping this very top level nothing is the same across the board not across all
Organizations like even just even in the same organs even in the same addition to your chapters yeah so nothing is the same so don’t think just because we’ve even in the same chapter because different divisions have different yeah yes is our experience it’s just individualize yeah that’s just our
Experience like nothing is going to be exactly the same but yeah cookie cutter or anything like that like your experience is gonna be what you make it um so yeah I think that’s oh do you have anything else okay that is all thank you for your time thank you for inviting me
