At an hbcu a young person is shown that they can be anything you step out of the minority and you become the majority everything tells you exactly what aretha told us you are young gifted and black you can come as you are and leave as the person you aspire to be
And along the way you find people who help you become your true self for me that was my beloved alpha kappa alpha sisters along with other sororities and fraternities and those who did not pledge the mephibs we would dance on friday nights and we would protest on saturday mornings
And after graduating from howard i spent my career in rooms where often i was the only person who looked like me or had my experiences but because of my hbcu and divine nine family i know i’m never the only person who looks like me or has had my life Experiences
