Room what’s up y’all welcome back to keeping up with pmp that’s me if you’re new here click that subscribe button and if you are returning what it do so yeah as i could tell i’m back with another video i was thinking of like maybe doing like a greek aka theory
Type thing because i don’t want um to have so many videos about greek stuff but i also think that the information that i have is great information and valuable and can be you know very valuable for other people so as you can tell by the title of today’s video i will be talking
About joining a sorority a pwi versus a hdcu what i will say is before i even jump into this video you should this is where research comes into play if you are in high school and graduating you’re about to go to college or whatnot and you are looking and wanting to join the
Sorority or whatever whatever school that you plan on going to whether it’s a pwi whether it’s hbcu make sure that that school has what you’re looking for you get what i’m saying so that you don’t go somewhere and you feel like you know oh i should have went to hbcu or
You know so you won’t have that type of feeling so so i can speak i’m okay so i’m gonna do a disclaimer because i can really only speak for myself um because i attended apwi and not at hbcu so this is from my point of view because
That’s where that’s what i attended so for starters i’m not gonna lie going to hbcu was never something that um really really crossed my mind when i was in high school and when i was you know like looking at hi uh looking at colleges to attend and stuff like that so
It wasn’t like a big thing of me going to hbcu or whatever um i just wanted to go to a good college and you know further you know get a degree further my education and stuff like that so i wasn’t really there for the hbcu versus pwi
Debate type thing so as i said i attended a pwi and for me of course a pwi is very different than attending hbcu i will say that probably you know at hbcu the you know like the community because you know hbcu for african-american people so the community is very different than a community
There you know at a pwi um because like i said most of the school you know it’s made up on caucasian individuals um and not african-americans not to say that the population of african-american people is small but of course it’ll never compare to the population of caucasians at pwis but that’s just a
Given so for me attending a pwi and joining alphacap alpha i don’t feel like i missed out on anything if i would have went to hbcu honestly me and the chapter that i belong to within half cup alpha i don’t think that i could see myself in any other chapter
Like it felt like you know home like i feel like how people feel at hbcus and with their greek life and etc i that’s kind of how i feel about mines at my pwi like i didn’t feel like you know there wasn’t like a sense of a black community or
I didn’t feel like less of a black letter greek or because i didn’t attend hbcu so what i will say is like i said i went to a pwi and my experience in me becoming a you know aka and pwi i don’t feel less of an aka
I don’t feel less you know a less of and or you know not so much a part of a black you know greek letter organization literally i feel like my experience like i had a great experience so i know that you know you have at hbcus you have
Everybody or whatnot on your yard and stuff like that but although i didn’t have everybody on the yard i was on the yard there were still a quite a few of us um greek organizations on the yard but it didn’t feel less of a less of a
Like i guess black greek community i didn’t feel less uh for i didn’t feel like i was lacking anything you know because i was aka and i’m here at pwi i literally feel like experience is what you make of it like just because somebody went to hbcu
That doesn’t mean that oh they’re at a you know historically black college so they experience to become aka a delta zeta or whatever the case may be oh it’s top tier and that’s not that’s not true because some people might be like i did not like it all my experience
Would be coming whatever they became when they became it and some people might be like oh at pwi like i wish i went to hbcu because they didn’t have the akas but they didn’t had his data so they didn’t have the dentist or whatever the case may be
But i’m not going to say like just because you go to a pwi or just because you go to hbcu that doesn’t make you more more i don’t know of the word i’m looking for but it doesn’t make you more of a greek letter organization like just because you
You know you became a casualty that doesn’t make you more vacant than me you get what i’m saying like or that doesn’t make it like better because you went to hbcu like no because like like i said it’s about your experience like i’ve had a great experience and i know a
Lot of other people who have great experiences with becoming greek at pw eyes and then you have people like i said who hbcus wish they went to a pwi because whatever forever reason but that’s their experience but honestly it’s really what you make of it like my pwi although you have caucasian
You know white people who make up most of the population there still is a very significant population of african-american people it’s still a sense of a black community or whatever the case may be so i don’t want anybody to feel like oh i’m going to a pwi and you know
I want to be x y and z at pwi or i became xyz at pwi and you know they came to hbcu like it it’s literally no difference like it’s it’s no difference yes it’s different environments because you have one designated type of school that’s you know designated for african-american individuals then you
Have a place where it’s really it’s tailored for caucasian people but you do have a lot of more ethnicities and um don’t get me wrong i am i’m glad that i have went to the pwi that i went to the relationships that i made especially being a part of the chapter
That i’m a part of i honestly i wouldn’t have it any other way and that’s just me being transparent but i don’t want people to feel like i need to go to hbcu to become an aka no you don’t but like i said you should also do your research so that
You know like okay this school ain’t got akas this pwi doesn’t have akas you know weigh your options or whatever i i don’t think i want to attend there because this is something that’s really important to me something that i really want a goal of mine
And i know that if i attend here i cannot achieve that goal at that during that four years because they don’t have what i’m looking for so definitely be like looking definitely be like you know up to speed about you know what that campus has
Because now i am not even on the yacht anymore i have meals my meals are in the yard and literally now they’re bringing i didn’t have deltas when i was down there Six yeah six years didn’t have dust when i was down there didn’t have sg rose until what i got in grad school they had zetas kappas were there but they were there when my pro fights were on the yard i wasn’t aka then and then of course the alpha’s always
Been there the queue’s always been there we had i i ordered we had iota that’s my freshman year once again i was not a product i kept it out for them but there were iotas and Sigmas we had sigmas but due to you know unforeseen you know circumstances when i became on it when i came on the yard there were only like alphas cues aka zetas whatever i say there were sigmas and that was it for women you know sororities and organizations
It was only between aka and zeta and i feel like a lot of people thought that they wanted to be aka or thought that they wanted to be a zeta because that that’s what you know was there like they only had two options or whatever but now
You know now that i’m not on the yard anymore the campus is starting to get you know they have sg roles now they’re getting deltas back the cappers are coming back so like all of these organizations are coming back and so now people have the options that are still there who are
Still interested in group their organizations but like i said you just always still want to be short and for certain that that place you know if it happens to be a pwi you know has you know what you want to pursue and don’t feel bad for going to a pwi
And becoming an aka zeta delta q or whatever because is it makes you no different than people who went to hbcu no difference at all like nobody has one up on you don’t nobody you ain’t underneath nobody no like because like i said i’ve had a better experience than some
People who have attended hbcus and some people who have attended hbcus might have had better experiences um through from than people you know who came through a pwi but everybody all of the greek communities that are there at the school that i you know became aka at literally all of them are happy
All of them are truly happy and take so much pride you know in the organization because they’re so happy because they came through a pwi and honestly it’s not even a pwi it’s the chapter it’s the chapter that you come through that also i feel like um like again this is my opinion
I feel like it’s a chapter that you come through like i said the chapters that are on my yard these chapters that are tailored and you know x y and z they are literally like you would think that the way our chapters operate or like the feel
You know for the black community within you know the black organizations you would think that you know it’s some type of hbcu type thing and it’s not like i don’t know like y’all i can’t even like describe like the words you know to help y’all understand like what i’m
Trying to say but like literally the chapters the chapters also matter because just because you go to hbcu the chapter can be and i’m just being you know honest and i’m just being transparent and just because you go to a pwi the chapter can be that’s on both ends or whatever not just
One above the other um but i can specifically say for the school that i attend in my chapter and the chapters that are there in my school they are it’s it’s i don’t know it’s just the chapter like the experience through through the specific chapters like i say it doesn’t even matter
At that point you know about okay pwi versus you know hbcu it’s just it’s the chapter you know and so for me i’ve had a great experience through a pwi i wouldn’t take it back i love the school that i attended uh sometimes um but i love my chapter of apple cap alpha
Sorority incorporated and where i attended i love the chapter so at my pwi i love the chapter so um it amazes me that the type of chapters that are there on that campus with the greek legal organizations it amazes me that the chapters are you know are like they
Are they’re at a pwi but that’s why i say i’m so grateful that i had that experience i’m so grateful that i became a part of that chapter at this school at this pwi so if you take anything from this video i would definitely say don’t feel like you
Have to go to hbcu to you know be a part of these organizations it’s really it’s your experience whether you go to hbcu or pwi you know it’s literally like what you make of it like i had some of the best times in undergrad and a little bit of grad uh
Grad school when i went outside with being in my org so there’s no one up on the other and if you are a senior and if you are about to attend college and sororities and or fraternities is something that has come across your mind and is a goal or something that you would
Like to do you know something that you really would like i definitely would say you should look into whatever school that you have committed to to see if that university or community college whatever may be if they have you know what you’re looking for and yeah so i hope this video was
