Hi Hornets. This is multimedia staffer Zoya Altabaa. The National Panhellenic Council, commonly referred to as the Divine Nine, hosted Black Org Night, an annual event celebrating black representation, on Friday September 22. Attendees were treated to performances by several of the Divine Nine student organizations at the event.
It brings people of color together, you know. It sets up a room where we all can like kind of come together and have different cultures kind of collide together as a part of the D9. I would like for students to learn more about black organizations
On campus and support that they can have in the community. It’s good to know. It’s good to know that, you know, there’s not just a couple options on campus, that there’s everything The event means to me is unity. It’s a lot of unity going on around here.
And I love to see it, honestly. Actually, it’s more than just unity is pretty much like a lifestyle. Students talked about why they think events like Black Org Night are important. Coming to an event like this, I hope students take away that there are
Multiple and helpful black organizations on campus that are always available and always have events and always have resources for them. Very important to have a sense of community and belonging when you’re at school to stop–prevent– drop out. So that’s the reason why I think events like this are needed. As their advisor, biasedly,
I would love for this to translate into more people seeing the Divine Nine and the NPHC as an option to join organizations. They have such a rich history and in collaboration with the other clubs that are here. Just so many amazing opportunities for connection and community.
So my biggest takeaway is that this translates to folks getting involved. Organizers spoke about what black student organizations can offer and how the community can get involved. I think this event encourages community simply because everybody’s coming together to put one big show together, just to display what–who we are
And what we’re really about. Having the proper guys when it comes to this type of stuff could definitely help you expand different horizons about yourself. We have so many affinity centers that are tabling tonight in addition to clubs and organizations. So we always like to say there’s a place for everybody.
And if for whatever reason, you’re not finding your home in one of the established organizations then we can give you the tools to build it. So I think my hope is that there’s something here for everyone and if there’s not that they’re always welcome to approach us and we can help them
Figure out how to create that community they’re looking for. I find the reason why this is so important for the community is because it just brings everybody together. Sacramento State is a very big campus and you can get a lot pretty fast. Coming to something like this–
It’s a way to connect with different people from different backgrounds and it also can help you accelerate your lifestyle further on. I would say it’s a show. It’s a movie, you know, I’m saying. So pull up. Check out what these different orgs are about. What we’re over here
To showcase. What we do throughout campus and what the org is about. Know what I’m saying? This has been Zoya with The State Hornet.
