Of people is faced with it and it’s pretty much it’s it’s it’s the act of bullying which i hate using the word it’s an act of homophobic slurs that’s been used all around the world and mainly in my fraternity um i didn’t want to call this uh being an openly gay uh kappa
Part two but i guess it’s a part of the journey i fought with it and i said you know what let me just take a deep breath and tell my story because unfortunately the incident doesn’t reflect all members of kaplan fraternity incorporated but it does put a dent in the side um
And the material of how i move forward with my fraternity um a couple of weeks ago july the fourth through the sixth i was pretty much harassed uh for about 12 hours straight uh one day and then it continued on to the sixth uh which is different brush coming
On my page on my facebook page and luckily someone tried to um to report the post but facebook refused to take it down after i made a phone call and some emails and they put it back up so if you guys want to go on my facebook page
Rico chapelle on facebook i actually have two pages uh but rico chappelle on facebook the one that i use the most um you can actually see the back and forth with my followers and friends and family and uh fans with members of my fraternity okay um that day i my business is going
Great um i have a staff now uh we back in atlanta we’re in a warehouse which i’m this is where i am now um and i had one of my um my interns we’re teaching her how to do social media um networking and marketing so i was like hey
Your last a task of the day after everybody has left i need you to go take the eventbrite link of my pop-up shop which is i’ve been traveling all summer doing a pop-up shops in different cities um nashville here in atlanta um this one has happened to be dallas
I said go ahead and post that in all my groups and she was just like oh wow you have so many groups you have like 40 groups and i was like okay go ahead so she posted posted posted posted posted and it’s just a link copy and paste copy and paste
Um she was like i’m done it was that easy cool she didn’t know anything about that great fine i closed my computer as she walked out the door i laid on a sofa in the lobby to take a quick nap um i woke up to a couple of phone calls
From one of my best friends uh which he is a fraternity browns like bruh i’m defending you once again in these face facebook groups um they going in on you or some flyer you posted i’m like well i didn’t post anything because you know i’m just waking up
And um it was like no they’re really going in on you um go look and i was like okay and i was like oh i forgot my assistant or my intern was posting in the um in the groups and i x forgot to tell her don’t
Do any kappa groups don’t do any kappa groups to be honest i didn’t even remember that i was in any kind of groups because just some stuff that happened in the past it’s just better for me to just kind of back up out of that situation because i
Just don’t need nothing negative in my life just simply i’ve been you know about a depression and everything else like anything negative i only want positive things in my life and unfortunately in those groups they don’t give a lot of that um they don’t give a lot of that and so
When i opened the um the group the first and i saw the flyer the link the first thing that i say the first thing that i saw was this [ __ ] look gay so me being me funny old me okay you can say gay we’re we’re guys we’re gonna say that stuff looks gay
Me and my lion brothers play around all the time and my chapter brothers play around all the time and i was just like so you mean to tell me that little gay but you and your pink uh jacket your polka dot shirt and your white linen pants you look cheap
So we’re going back and forth for about 30 minutes to an hour then next thing you know another bra comes in and another bra comes and then another bra comes in another this goes on for a span of 12 hours collectively um until i said and it was it turned
From one to about 10 or more people um it was a lot of bro stepping up to the plate saying um chill out yo he just promoting his business um your wife your wife your girlfriends can go to i mean it was brothers backing me up on
This so i was like okay this is getting a little bit out of hand um so i reached out to the um the admin of the group and i was like hey um we both pre pretty much in a nutshell i say hey we both um went against the rules of the group
Uh which rules number one that uh you do not bash any other brothers or talk about their alternative lifestyle and number two is you can’t have any num member of kappa fsi in the group now how the other members of the group like in the ninth hours found out about
That how other members of the group found out about that in a knife hour i said look yo this was a mistake my assistant was copying and pasting she accidentally put it in the um the group and um so that’s how i got in there and they was like oh you’re lying
Why would i tell my own self i why would i tell them my own self if i knew if that was the fact the factor i just would have just said whatever and to be frankly honest i don’t care about being in a kappa group um especially when the post before mine
Was about whose ass the fattest the mother of the daughters or when you’re you’re you’re doing the same thing to other brothers that you’re doing to me when two younger brothers are strolling with some fitted clothes on or are they gay this is that in the third i have no
I don’t care about none of that so it doesn’t matter about me being in the group or not so um immediately the admin of the group responded and he was just like so he was asking me questions and one of the questions he asked me was
Just like did you take the post down and i was like no and he said did uh you have a non-member of kappa um come in the group right then that’s when i started screen shotting of the um the comments et cetera et cetera et cetera
That was um said to me and i said yeah he said well we’re gonna i don’t care what you have to say uh it trumps everything we’re putting you out the group so i’m thinking like okay what about the other guys that has been calling me all types
Of [ __ ] and we don’t want no gays in the frat won’t you darling join delta et cetera et cetera et cetera so i said okay i see where this is going so i thought about it for a hot second like 30 seconds um i took those screenshots i cropped them down
Because i didn’t want other brothers names that was defending me attached to it um because you know even though they were saying positive things you just never know how people can take and twist things around um i posted on my page i posted two of the um
The um the comments um of two of the brothers that was really going back and forth the whole entire time and the admin of the group told the guys to say hey rico’s gone public make sure y’all delete all y’all comments off uh because he’s going to try to get the uh group
This uh man bandit or whatever or the group deleted like i said i can care less about your group you can keep your group you can have fun about your group because guess what you’re going to continue to talk about me in your group and guess what
And if you don’t think somebody’s paying attention they are they’re going to come on houstonpill.com and purchase some things thank you they may not do it today but 10 years 9 years or whatever they’re gonna come in uh purchase things for me so um for for days like i said earlier they
Uh not one say they uh several members of my fraternity pretty much harassed me on my page and the sad part is i was looking at some of the profiles these was old these were older older gentlemen i was like wow so after all these years i understand why the fraternity is in
The predicament that is in because we have we have um allowed literally trash to come in our group um and so here’s my thing about the homophobic slurs okay of course kappa was founded on christian principles um so you mean to tell me you will exile a brother that is
Is is gay that has his own business that has a great um great standing in the lgbt community in the straight community at his school among all hbcus in the community period in and literally and and let’s just even say in my position in the world let’s just be let’s be
Honest every we all know who i am and we all know what i do but you have a brother that um that um that beats his wife that sleeps with multiple women um that do a lot of things that go against our christian principles and he is praised and uplifted
Let’s get that absolutely clear let’s let’s just let’s get that absolute okay so i would like to have a conversation down in the comments like i just don’t understand if we’re on this christian principle type of thing let’s just be real it’s 2019. let’s just have an open let’s have an open
General healthy conversation without slandering each other let’s have that in the comments and this is to all of my brothers and i’m going to say this multiple times in the video it’s not all members of kappa alpha psi fraternity incorporated uh because we had a lot of bras come to my defense
Um when this whole thing happened and i want to say to personally i saw the comments i really appreciate and i thank you guys because i don’t have to prove myself of being a great bro i’ve been in this frat what 20 some years
Um spring 98 and we all and we all know wonder brothers gonna say um you know they love to say oh you’re putting business in the uh uh fraternal business out in the in the um in the streets or whatever but but then they turn around and say
Oh you wasn’t gonna scroll until 2000. um i’ve been a member of kappa southern since 1998 and we have a couple of bras that was coming in the group saying oh you wasn’t abroad until 2000 okay so i’m going to address that for you and the rest of the world and we
Know how this thing works uh before i was a kappa i was a noob and we know and we’re gonna leave it at that um and for those that are not news because it’s a big difference and all campuses are not nukes and all noops are not kappas i’m having i happen
To be both so we’re just going to leave it at that rest of the world you make your assumptions i don’t care but brother to brother y’all know what that mean um and if y’all like y’all dig up information y’all can go back in and and and make phone calls
We know what better land to produce and that’s all i have to say um one brother was literally on my page saying oh you’re not um financial you’re not financial we um you’re talking all this trash you’re glorifying your name you trying to make money off of kappa blah blah blah blah
No i’m not trying to make money off capital um and no i’m not trying to glorify my name this situation has been going on for years years i’ve been hearing that people have been saying things for the past 10 years 10 12 years and i never addressed it i
Never said anything i mentioned something in my uh my last video being openly gay kappa uh but i never went into detail for the first time july 4th of july around 2 at 2 p.m i finally saw it with my own eyes and i checked it myself i checked it myself um
And um and come to find out it was all true from the people that told me has been telling me all these years oh they’ve been calling you gay they’ve been saying this watch out for this brother this this that in the third blah blah blah blah you know i already knew
This was the first time that i just caught it with my own eyes um and do i think it’s going to stop no no no no but what i know is going to stop publicly bashing other bras um it was abroad called and told me that they actually
Put his name and phone number and ad name phone number and address in a group um so people can roll up on him to what so my thing is i got a question when y’all roll up on us by the way i’m going gun shopping
Uh i planned it on gold last week i plan on going gun shopping uh this week coming up so just in case you want to roll up you’re going to roll up into something real dirty and nasty um when y’all roll up and confront us gabe bros
What do you think we gonna do i’m asking you what do you think we gonna do you think as a 41 going to 42 which i look amazing by the way um what you think we gonna do so when you roll up are you gonna roll up with multiple bras
Then you’re gonna look more of a [ __ ] because then you wanna gang me really i’m gonna tell you some bras hit me up um some girls called me and some bras uh hit me in my inbox and they begged for me not to do go public take it down
Don’t do a video because they know what’s going on my best friend literally cried on the phone because he was telling me that my nephew my god son my my his little creation my nephew because we just call him my nephew my gosh and whatever comes out of his mouth
May not even know what kappa is by the time he go um graduate from high school you know why because we keep letting members of our fraternity um in that does stuff like this and make the whole fraternity look bad y’all y’all breaking the breaking too many rules y’all
Hurting boys trying to pledge y’all killing boys back to why i don’t pay any membership dudes i paid for kappa twice me and my whole line we paid for and the ones that was able to get our membership cards so we like i said we gonna leave it at that
Brush noops we know the other ones i’m not thinking about so so you want me to sit up here and take this homophobic bashing you want me to sit up here and ignore the fact that y’all sitting up here that some not all but some are doing crazy things
In this fraternity and you want me to pay my dues my money to cover help cover it up no i can’t do that sir uh one a couple of my mentors uh called me along with my line brothers my one of my line brothers my friend was like
What are you doing even socializing with some of these bras because to your words they use me they’re beneath you um and i’m not saying the ones that are all members of the fact but the ones that want to go there and do the homophobic slurs and all that they are
Way beneath you you you’re running a multi-million dollar company you’re you’re you’re you’re putting this great energy into making clothes for for women making women and men look beautiful and then you got this rico you don’t need any of that in your life period and these same bras they’re not active
Ceos accompany millionaires they’re not active they’re not paying kappa a dime um i’ma tell y’all this story i was in the sixth grade and um look my first year in sixth grade right my first year in sixth grade um i had a guy i used to my mom was on
Drugs i stayed with my uh she did the best she could to take care of us i think she did an amazing job um and he used to harass me and torment me every single day first period started the day off horrible um and um and and back then i was probably about
70 85 pounds soaking wet i didn’t wasn’t 100 pounds until i graduated high school so you just imagine the sixth grade i was probably just like little short little turd walking around and they talked a lot of trash i was always funny um and people always loved me but you
Always had them people that that despised me for some strange reason um and even though my mom was sick she taught me how to stand up for myself she said don’t let nobody ever run over you you know you’re little you you you stand up to them first you tell them what the
Business is so i remember one day in the class i stood up to this fool and said what’s up i squared up against this big old dude i can’t mention his name even though i want to so bad because he actually lives on the street with my aunt
And we spoke one time i think she’s been in that the house for about 15 years we spoke one time uh but of course the person that you picked on all these years i’ll be this wonderful person this this well-known person that the whole and that the whole city loves and used to
Pick on them and i stood up to that dude and ever since that day he never said a single word to me ever again that’s why i’m doing this video i’m doing this video because there’s so many bras out there that has been getting her right that have been getting harassed that have
Been getting picked on and god knows what is boys that want to pledge kappa it’s for us to want to play it alpha is both they want to play it’s cute they don’t even know what to do if they’re going to get attacked from their uh sexuality or even not necessarily
Sexuality but just being different just being different because for the black community you could talk a certain way and be gay you can walk a certain way and be gay you can dress a certain way and be gay we having this conversation in 2019 i don’t get it black people
I don’t get i don’t get it black people and i’m gonna tell you before i close out of here um i called a um a good friend of mine in nashville he’s higher in the ranks of love kappa um has been a great friend of mine
And mentored for years for 20 years and i told him the situation and he just told me he said rico that’s unfortunate but you need to move forward with it and i was shocked he said because it keeps happening and when people try to bring it up the conversation is always
Swept under the rug he told me he said the best way to bring it up is not now because you can’t really have provincial meetings and get ready to elect a new president he said the best time to bring it up is at the beginning of the year
Because it goes right up under the hazing act um and he said your voice is loud and people will listen and he said to be honest if we keep going the way we’re going as a fraternity we’re gonna be extinct within five to ten years
I heard it but i didn’t think it was true but when i heard it from him it kind of resonated my soul like i plan to help kids i want my kids to be member of members of kappa alpha sign i know a lot of y’all probably be like why you want
To be a part of um a fraternity that has been calling you gay it’s not everybody in the fraternity it’s just certain brothers but i’m gonna tell you the connections that i have when i walk in the room when i’m overseas and when they see this uh
Tattoo on my uh my uh big old bulge and bicep i get doors open for me even i get doors open for me from either other greeks and sororities when you in l.a oh you’re a cowboy i’m a cute 1911. oh you’re alpha i mean you’re a kaplan
Alpha you know blah blah blah so it’s always a thing because especially when you know a brother pledge you you know it and i want my kids to have the same have the same doors open in the same network networking pool that i’ve had because it’s been amazing i got
Nine amazing lion brothers i love some of them i love them one day and hate them in next i talk about them we talk trash we we wrestle we fuss we fight we we go but we’re good though i love them my chapter bros we go
Back and forth but i love them i wouldn’t trade them any nothing i wouldn’t trade them for anything in the world you know but it really hurts me that we’re having this conversation in 2019 um and even going back to the bullying thing when i stood up for myself it was like
It was a guy on my uh my facebook page that was was kept on going kept on going kept on going until one of the bras um one of the bras that i was in the eci program with like i said i’m not telling no names he i posted a
A flyer to pop-up shop um on my page and the guy was oh this is our page now this is the kappa page and they killed me trying to hide behind this umbrella of kappa no you wanted to come on you thought all the brother was going to rally around you and
Attack me which they didn’t until we stood up and was like meet me here you try to attack my friend that i’ve been knowing for over 20 years and we was like meet us in nashville and i happen to be in nashville for a funeral
Meet us at the park at this time and we’re going to be ready for you he never said anything else on my page again that’s why i say people teach our kids how to stand up for the for themselves kids are killing themselves they’re dying because they don’t know how to fight
They don’t know how to stand up for they don’t have to physically know how to fight they can fight with words baby my mouth was slicker than the razor blade growing up and before i i would will wear you out by my words and before i talked about your nappy edges and your
Ass your feet you had to really think about yourself and i was long gone on to the next class i’m gonna close up but i’m gonna tell you the only thing that uh that got under my skin um i would say that never that really they didn’t really get up under my skin
That kind of moved me in a certain way because it’s really hard to get up under my skin um during that whole moment um we actually had a brother of much from my chapter which we ain’t saying no names but i see you negro i see you
Um he went into the he went into a group and was just like oh we didn’t want him in the frat et cetera et cetera he wasn’t on the same tip that he was back then and i tried to make him drop et cetera et cetera et cetera
And was just going on and on and talking but he was uh eventually checked by a older bro because we don’t play that um but this particular bruh in miami you’re older than me you made me but i had to feed you i had to come out of my pocket
And those bras that you running around around with trying to be up under there whatever trying to get cloud chase with them you forgot when you needed to eat him in miami who paid for it me and several other bros but i remember specifically me coming out of my pocket
Several times but when we was coming out of king of diamonds though i ain’t gonna lie when you try to get on my uh plate and go on my chicken wings i was not having that because i had got tired i was drunk had spent all my money on the strippers
Again lap dances and you’re going to dig in my wings and um and me and my line brother was eating like i did wear you out so i understand you’re probably mad at but still mad about that but at the end of the day i fed you
Multiple times in miami and then you’re going to go talk in a group you’re just as cowardice as any of them brother ever said anything and then it was one other person that commented on what you commented on and i’m gonna tell you that person like we said we ain’t gonna say
No names but they’re always watching um you had a chance to be alarmed eyeline brother you was with that 21. you lasted for about a week a couple of days and we was at home coming and when we were taking that picture when i you were standing by the coke
Machine remember the coke machine and i said come on and take a picture with us because i figured we all grown that is we don’t care about who who did what and who dropped and who cared and who it is we all grown we’ve been in the game forty years
Of 40 years we’ve been in the game over 20 years because it was our 20th anniversary then everything you gonna go come in i think you know out of anybody i’m a real as they come k aside five new pie to the day i die i remember somebody said oh you need to
Denounce your letters i would never ever denounce my letters it’s till the day we die that’s like that’s just like your kids if your son was gay would you announce your son and if you are if you do you’re a sick individual on that note thank you guys for
