Pain the story is told of Mr Thomas dorsy he is considered by most of us Church folk as the father of gospel music before you can get to your Travis Green your Tasha covs your William Murphy your Kurt Franken and even the late great James Cleveland you’ve got to start with Mr Thomas
Dorsy The Story Goes that one even uh brother dorsy he was out on Revival and pastor Barry he was singing and he was singing and he was singing All Night Long however as he finished and he sat down to just wiped the sweat off the brow uh he got a
Telegram uh uh I know Cayla Walker you like what is a telegram before text messages there were telegrams he he got a telegram and it said that your wife had died that she had given birth to your baby boy and yet your wife died perplexed and confused she turned to his
Hotel room for that evening uh and he did not know how to deal with this sorrow and This Joy stuck in the sandwich of happiness and pain all at the same time and yet in those very same moments he received another telegram letting him know not only had his wife
Died but his baby boy had died as well Mr dorsy he was devastated he was demoralized teetered on the edge of depression and while in that season of hurt he went to visit a college with a friend he sat down to a piano and he found by the inclination of the Holy Spirit
Writing out and playing out these words precious Lord take my hand Leave me home let me stand I am tired I am weak I am worn through the storm through the night lead me on to the light take my hand precious Lord lead lead me home when my
Way Rose Dre precious Lord linger there when my light is almost gone Hear My Cry Hear My Call hold my hand lest I fall take my hand precious Lord lead me home hurting and broken demoralized and devastated Mr dorsy realized the only way he was going to make it through this
Darkness of life was to follow the light of the Lord um Thomas dorsy recognized and resolved that he could not allow the pain of his moment to paralyze him and the truth of the matter everybody underneath the sound of my voice knows that we all have to deal with pain we
All find ourselves often times Paralyzed by plain and able to move just stuck in sorrow drowning and depression waiting and weariness pain can hurt us all today I’m preaching to a room of survivors those whove had to push past their pain push past the pain of chemotherapy push past the pain of
Losing your head push past the pain of doctor’s visit after doctor visit push past the pain of having to go through your body and changes that you never thought you experience you had to deal with pain uh uh but but it’s not just our survivors who know about pain pain
Hits us at all different levels a 2-year-old they realize pain when that actually realize that the fire is actually hot or maybe it’s your eight-year-old when your eight-year-old realize that you won’t win every game and losing is no fun right maybe it’s the 14-year-old who has to realize that
Guess what everybody who says is their friend they are not your friend and being rejected can hurt maybe it’s the 22 year old that realizes that being love can really hurt uh maybe it’s the 40y old who goes through pain of realizing what I thought the life I
Thought Happ never comes to Fu wish and maybe it’s the 80y old realizing I can’t do it how I used to do it but I’ve come to tell the church everybody’s got to deal with pain it is it is a part of the human experience and might I add that we are
Dealing with pain at a level like we’ve never seen before there’s Wars everywhere and rumors of wars there is social anxiety every time you get on your Facebook every time you get on your Instagram all you see is bad news for bad news we got black people killing
Black people we got the people that’s supposed to protect us killing black people how do we handle all the pain and it puts us in a paralyzing predicament a paralyzing situation where we feel like we are just going over pain after pain after pain but I’ve come by
To encourage the church on this morning despite the pain God will give you strength to teach you how to learn to push past your pain and get into your purpose can you touch your neighbor for the first time and tell them don’t let your pain paralyze you don’t don’t let your pain paralyze
You and this is how we arrive at our text on this morning David is in a pace of plane uh him and his men his posy his crew his homeboys they return home to their current resting place and they find everything that they love had been destroyed destroyed and carried away the
Bible says that when they got back it was all burned down their wives their sons and daughters had been taken cap and the Bible goes on to say that David and their men they cried until they couldn’t cry no more uh have you ever been there in life when you get sick and
Tired of crying and you want to cry but you can’t cry no more I I know that’s how we feel right now every time you see on your timeline you see babies in Israel and babies in Palestine you feel like I can’t cry no more every time you
Watch 11:00 news and it’s another young black man either being taken away to jail or lose his life you feel like you can’t cry no more every time we look at Capitol Hill and it seems like we sent them there to do a job and the only
Thing they don’t want to do is do the job you feel like you can’t cry no more and this is where we find David he’s CED till he got no more strength HH pain has a way of just taking the life out of you knocking the wind out of you
And it seemed like it couldn’t get no worse but I hear that colloquial phrase when it rains it pours because David although he’s crying although he’s lost his wife and children the Bible says that his friends the people that was with him they said we should Stone
David uhh it’s the same David that that had Spar their life from Saul it’s the same David that kept them safe on the run it’s the same David that gave them a place to rest when they had nowhere else to go and yet the same ones that were
Supposed to be with them now they against them I did they forget that David had lost his wives too that’s right did they forget that David had gone through hard times too did they forget that David was in the same economy that they are in and yet instead of rallying together they break

David had to act crazy just to save his life and it seemed like it was all about to come together and now all has been taken David finds himself in in pain I I I I believe I believe for my teenagers if David was playing anything right now he wasn’t
Playing no Temptations but he was playing R wave he probably said Tombstone but I know I’m at new M so we got we got to mix it up a little bit I I think David might he might have put on Temptations some he might have said some shine blue skies please go away
My girl’s found another and she’s gone away with her with my future I I think he just said I just wish it would rain David found himself Paralyzed by his pain the relevant question I want to ask you on this morning Pastor an what do we
Do when we are paralyzed by the pain of our predicament I’ve come to tell somebody that that you got to learn how to play with pain yes God you you you got to understand that although pain won’t try to paralyze you like a snake bite this text is the antivenom to go from
Paralyze to poison to your purpose uh uh you got to learn how to how to play with pain uh uh uh Deacon Neil it was uh 1988 game six in NBA Finals the Detroit Pistons they were battling the Los Angeles Lakers they found themselves down by eight points heading into the third

The next I’ve only come by the church on this morning to tell somebody I know you might have Liv in here you’re dealing with the problems of like you’re dealing with finances you’re dealing with frustration but God said listen if you can keep on playing in pain I’ll teach
You how to walk in your purpose cuz it’s pain today but it’s Championship on tomorrow ah ah yeah yeah yeah yeah don’t get paralyzed by your pain well well well well this text is telling to teach us three things because we know our pastor say it’s always
Three and so because I’m in DC I’mma say these three things I’mma let y’all get the brunch cuz I know y’all got places to be the first thing I see in the text the text teaches us how to rebound from my pain Let the church say rebound
Rebound David was in great danger verse six for the people spoke of stoning him because they were bitter in spirit for their sons and daughters but David strengthened himself in the Lord his God David was able to rebound from a painful situation because he had the right relationship with his
God the ability to lean on the relationship with God because David recognized in a time of trouble God was the only resource he could depend on and often times we got relationships with God and yet in pain instead of relying on a relationship we rely on other
Things H can I tell you uh David was in trouble David didn’t rely on himself I know that I’m in a room full of self-made bosses a lot of y’all y’all baller shot callers got it all going on I know you’re in fraternities and sororities but when life gets through
Beating you up one side and walking down the other it’s not going to be your friends it’s not going to be your connections but you going to have to realize but baby you got to go and find God in order to Rebound in life you got to understand it’s your relationship
With God ah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah you got to understand you got to understand that you can’t call on your mama’s God when you in trouble uhuh when you in trouble you can’t call on your daddy’s God but you got to say it’s me it’s me oh Lord and
I’m standing in the need of prayer um and maybe that’s the problem why so many people can’t bounce back maybe we got that’s why so many people are broken and bruised because they don’t have the right relationship and yet they got the right relationship with the wrong
Thing ah yeah yeah yeah yeah we got more people trying opio instead of trying to omnipotent ah ah more people they they they they they are trying Hennessy instead of trying to Heavenly I I I just come to tell somebody you need something that can keep you cuz you can get high
But baby you got to come back down but I serve a God who sits high but he looks down low every close in a while you got to realize you got to rely on the relationship ah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah tell your neighbor rely on the right

Rebound but I believe David rebound because he used the main thing of believer has he had a playback memory David David Remembered in his tears this is the same God that saved him from a lion in the bass talk about David remember this was the same God that kept Saul from killing
Him and then David remember it’s the same God that allowed him to kill Goliath and in order for you to rebound you got to remember that you got the right relationship with a god that’ll make you a giant killer and I know I’m in the right room I’m in a room full of
Giant Killers I I know you are because I got students that had to go through a pandemic the worst pandemic in a 100 years and yet you made it out you are a giant killer I got people you had to work at home you had to feed the baby
You had to walk the dog and be on the job at the same time you are a giant killer I know they told you you at stage four cancer they said you ain’t going to make it and yet here you are today in your Pig baby you are a giant killer and
You got to understand that because you are a giant killer if you kill the giant on yesterday the same God that brought you through on yesterday he’ll do it again on today and he’s waiting to kill the giant in the tomorrow you better touch yourself and say baby I’m a giant killer David rebounded cuz he remembered that that that he was a giant killer the the text teaches us how to rebound but not only does it teach us how to rebound the text teaches us how to restore Let the church say restore restore the Bible says that David as he
