Religious chants shouted at a political debate at uc davis it started after pro-palestinian students passed a resolution to boycott israel two days later a jewish fraternity house was vandalized with anti-semitic graffiti many want to know what led up to the tension cbs 13’s lamar abrams with new video that may answer the question
The chants are associated with muslim prayer and with islamic terrorism but you wouldn’t expect to hear the chance in a student debate at uc davis shouted at israel supporters when they objected to a student past resolution to boycott israel pretty disappointed in our students because of that
Karim omar was raised muslim and speaks arabic but all it means is god is great but was it used as an attack against jewish students on campus i don’t see it as a religious attack i think it’s it’s to show their conviction two days later however vandals spray painted swastikas on a
Jewish fraternity house some say it’s spreading hate i just think that’s beyond rude and it’s almost embarrassing especially if it’s a student from davis because we are kind of known for being more liberal others call it retaliation and the jewish frat has since installed surveillance cameras the brothers didn’t want to be interviewed
Again for the story neither did students affiliated with the group that passed the anti-israel resolution but a university spokesman tells us it comes down to freedom of speech we welcome all points of view here we expect people to express themselves respectfully to respect each other’s views and points of view
And when they debate to do so in a dignified way again as for the hate crime investigation the university says they will not comment further just to say that there is an ongoing hate crime investigation as for that resolution to boycott israel while uc regents issued a statement
Saying they will not even entertain the idea lamar thank you lamar abrams reporting live for us tonight on the campus of uc davis
