Lectures we have the honor to host brother a baker who is a blue Lo and York R Mason from Asheville North Carolina as well as an initiator of several other initiatic linages brother is also a writer researcher and practitioner of the esoteric and he uh hosts uh of um of the Arcanum YouTube
Channel uh and podcast where he produces lecture and documentary style presentations on all aspects of Western ethis uh as well is conducting conversations with such guests like uh brother haime Paul LM stavish Stuart kelen John Michael GRE uh PD Newman and many others in the field of fre
Freemasonry and esoteric research he is currently producing a manuscript uh for Tria pra press to be released in 2024 which will be a series of essays uh focusing on the history theory and practice of the western esoteric Traditions later on I will share the uh websites of brother AE uh and YouTube

Different uh things and issues from my side I will use the opportunity to remind everyone that is a international uh a political public educational uh and absolutely independent platform that welcomes everyone male or female members or non-members uh every everything that we share here our opinions uh our comments
Should be treated as our own personal ones uh and even though we may belong to different jurisdictions we may belong to different Traditions uh or linages uh or different uh institutions anything that we say here or share here should be treated as solely our own uh individual opinions and they should not be
Interpreted is anyhow um official standpoints of any institutions we may be member of or be affiliated with so please bear that in mind while you’ll be enjoying the presentation then the discussion or the recording after uh it is posted on YouTube channel so that is very uh that should be always clearly
Understood uh again I think that’s uh it for today from my side uh we got the disclaimer and floor is all yours brother a thank you so much um Brother David it’s really a pleasure to be able to participate um in such a wonderful resource uh that is amazingly free for
People um so I’m happy to be here and thank you to everybody today who has uh who’s joined us um so I’m going to jump right into it here we’re going to talk about obviously uh the Hermetic order of the Golden Dawn now we’re going to talk
About the early hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn this this cannot necessarily be an exhaustive uh investigation but um what I’m going to attempt to do is approach the Golden Dawn from its formulation out of masonry and different kinds of masonry and the overall Masonic uh antiquarian uh somewhat Scholastic sentiment of the
Time period of the uh 17 and 1800s the early informative history of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn is one rif with controversy Scandal even secrecy subversion and absolutely real magic um yet how much is really well known about it even in ult circles furthermore how much has been
Collected and recorded of it uh with all the artifacts and lines of research that have developed within the past 20 years if we stick with older writings let’s say the writings of elec how right very well known who was um somewhat antagonistic even hostile to to the history uh and then more sympathetic
Writers uh such as Bob Gilbert Francis King we still fall short of any satisfactory conclusions regarding how it was formed form Med and really for what aims part of this has to do with the fact that you can really only fully understand something by going through it
You’re only going to get so much information um you know looking through the window so to speak from the outside in but generally the snide skepticism with which the history of the Golden Dawn has been treated does neither the or the order the author of the uh the
History the reader nor the history itself any justice nor favors there is a more comprehensive picture that has arisen from the work done in just the past several decades that can throw light on the nuance and complexity of this incredible seminal and massively influential magical and ult
Tradition let’s start the show okay it’s we see it it’s full screen great so the most common beginning of this story As Told is that three men created the Golden Dawn almost as if it appeared out of no other place than their imaginations or perhaps uh fantasy interests yet the
Level of sheer erudition and insight that would have had to have gone into just the Baseline curric curriculum and rituals of the original order indeed would necessitate several teams of researchers and practitioners over many decades or perhaps longer to collect and synthesize it was and Remains The most significant propagator of actual esoteric
Understanding and practice in the western world it’s really I like to describe it as the kinetic expression of the most profound symbols and high teachings which exist in masonry uh in potentia so I forewarn you again that the history of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn is kind of like a Edwardian
Or Victorian aosa Opera an Agatha Christie novel or something like that a cloak and dagger mystery filled with secrecy betrayal historical enigmas and Lun and happenings truly Stranger Than Fiction for those not entirely familiar with the Hermetic order the Golden Dawn it was an esoteric order which was
Formally formed in 1880s London 1888 to be precise in other words it was an initiating body utilizing ceremonial ritual as its means of both initiation advancement and instruction in this way it was not unlike Freemasonry it was a secret society at least for a little while a
Very little while particularly it had to be hidden not only from outward mundane Society but also other private societies such as masonry in general right this was for a select few um those probably not so stuffy and uh I would say academic but with a spirit of um intrepidness uh that’s why typically
When you look at the founding members of the Golden Dawn a lot of them they they come across as somewhat Bohemian figures artists poets uh actors actresses writers Etc it was a vehicle by which esoteric instruction experiment and operation gradually entered into mainstream Western culture over time right it was
And continues to be today at least in several iterations a magical order meaning that it instructs in and practices magic while the Golden Dawn initiate receives training in a very wide cross-section of Western Magic including banishing uh invocations evocations alchemical ritual formula talismanic magic Elemental planetary astrological Magic In general the main
Thrust of its momentum is aimed at a very specific kind of magic and we’re going to call that ceremonial or high magic and we’re going to talk about that uh much more later on towards the end of the um the last third of the presentation the Golden Dawn itself is
In outer court so to speak from which was yet no longer typically is veiled the second order or inner order which is specifically Rosy crucian in nature its rituals are predicated on underlying themes symbolism and images which are cabalistic and principally hermetic in nature there is a particularly strong
Egyptian emphasis on the magic and ritual formula of the Golden Dawn take for instance in the neoy OR 0 equals z ritual the first and introductory ritual initiation of the order the groundwork or backdrop for this r ritual is actually the weighing of the heart ceremony found in the Egyptian Book of
Coming forth by day or better known as The Book of the Dead yet being of the rosicrucian branch specifically of the western Mysteries that is opposed uh as opposed to the ogoa branch the Golden Dawn eventuates in a strong Christian Motif uh particularly esoteric esoteric Christianity now that’s not to say that
It is or becomes dogmatically uh or religiously Christian uh at least in the exoterically religious sense but that its inner order initiates voluntarily assume a christic formula namely self-sacrifice exactly what kind of self-sacrifice we will detail further on in this presentation the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn was founded by three
Englishmen who were Master Masons and members of the SRI uh for those who have never heard of that before that’s the societ rosiana in Anglia meaning the Society of Rosie crusan or Rosie kusian Society in England um this body was uh formed in the mid- 1800s by George Wentworth
Little uh as specifically to be a Rosy crusan and esoteric Christian order which filled its ranks exclusively with Master Masons whom also confirmed a belief in the fundamental principles of the trinitarian Christian faith so that’s the SRI so these three uh you could call them Rosy crusan Masons were Dr William
Win westcot Samuel little Ms and Dr William Robert Woodman of the three Woodman was the Elder Statesman of the Masonic fraternity Ms was an enthusiastic researcher translator and gifted ritualist and westcot an intell ENT highly intelligent ambitious and magically motivated uh Master Mason and coroner very interesting about wescot is
That he kind of flourished in all of these societies that studied magic and Tarot and and things like this but he really wanted to do it um and so he was really a motive force behind the Golden Dawn you know there’s a lot of uh to this day in some circles there’s a
Tremendous amount of talk about magic but people will feel silly when they try to do it um westcot bulked at that really he he was a um he he was somebody who resisted that who gave that push back in the creation of this order so Wescott uh eventually
Found himself taking over for Woodman as the Supreme megus of the SRI that is its Chief Sovereign worldwide now though the S subscribed to the doctrine of rosicrucian Credo ethos and the teachings as elaborated in what we call the rosicrucian manifestos um particularly the first and second of
These we’ll going to cover more of that shortly the SRI could prove no actual historical link to the Ros chrisian Brotherhood um and really it’s kind of an impossibility when you think about um the self-designation of the rosi Christians as an invisible Brotherhood right no one could find they they were
Diffuse they existed everywhere so there’s also that to think about so the organization the SRI however unique and prestigious for its time was itself derived from a rather curious moment in Continental European esotericism in uh the 1750s or 1750 uh to be exact when German Alchemist and Freemason Freemason Herman fol created
The or gold in Ross Anda the order of the gold and Rosie Cross membership to this order required again 1ba Master Mason in good standing and its aims and teachings were specifically alchemical it’s from this order and the subsequent derivative of the SRI which the Golden Dawn grade structure and its
Various titles uh are imported so really what we’re delineating here um is that Mathers Westcott and Woodman came out of the SRI and even before that specifically um there was a German branch of Rosy crucian Freemasonry that uh informed uh the the SRI so these things
Are kind of like uh maybe like uh these little nesting dolls they kind of uh burgeon forth uh from each other successive ly um different iterations and interpretations of the tradition the rosie crucian tradition um in different locals but specifically right around northern Europe also it’s from these explicitly
Rosie kusian bodies which the Golden Dawn derives its Rosy crusan inner order in fact it’s as you can tell impossible to talk about the Golden Dawn in any meaningful way without also discussing Rosie chanism as this was and continues to be its animating Force so just another interesting little
Historical curio because the more we learn the more it it continues to reach back the further we go the more and more historical records become available and and and extent to us the works of Herman field who put together the order of the golden Rosie cross are intimately
Connected with uh another uh German Rosy Christian Masonic order called uh the orders of schaten Rose the order of the Black Rose which has it’s estimated to have been in existence in Continental European Masonic circles again uh from the 1700s and this order was also highly alchemical in
Nature now there’s just something I briefly want to mention here as I’m sure some of you are aware this Rosy crucian Spirit uh this Rosy crucian interpretation of masonry and what the Golden Dawn would eventually become right as this esoteric uh exposition of the symbols of masonry and the Western esoteric traditions in
General not exclusive to to the Golden Dawn uh there were well there was this trend in the 17 and 1800 hundreds uh among certain highly influential Masons and Masonic organizations to reinterpret or quote unquote Rectify masonry like for instance we have KAG orro’s primitive right of Memphis and misam highly Egyptian in nature
Um the Golden Dawn uh not I wouldn’t say that its symbolism is outright Egyptian but I would say in the interior it’s very very uh Egyptian we also have the eluk Cohen of of Martina de pasali which was this kind of Christian theurgic reinterpretation of shial masonry we
Have John Baptist vos’s uh rectified Scottish right so there was a trend of of taking uh the symbols of blue Lodge and the appendant bodies that were available at the time um and and in those different ritual iterations right because they change and reinterpreting it based on what certain people thought
To be the true meaning or setting it placing it firmly within the context of the broader Western esoteric Traditions so all that said we’re going to digress into a brief overview of Rosie christianism just so that those who are unfamiliar with it can get their bearings the rosie crutian made their
Debut in the intellectual and mainstream cultures of Continental Europe in the 1600s CE with the anonymous publication of a series of manifestos these are now referred to as the Rosy crucian manifestos or the rosicrucian trilogy these were the F fraternitatis or the fame of the fraternity published in 1614 the confessio fraternitatis in
1615 and the chemical wedding of Christian Rosen cruts in 1616 or 1617 uh for for broader publication these all appeared first in Germany and then saw public ation uh within the larger European reading audience this string of anonymously published manifestos detailed the existence of a quote unquote invisible Brotherhood
Highly Pious academics philosophers and Men of all manner of learning who banded together in a secret society with the agenda of initiating the entire world this initiation they called a quote Universal Reformation of mankind by way of a science which they said was quote built on esoteric truths of the
Ancient past indeed the rosie crucians are very argu are arguably the very first quote unquote secret society of this kind in western civilization right there were plenty of I would say clerical orders um there were uh academic Circles of magicians in hiding but this kind of this secret society
That makes itself known right anonymously and tells you basically we are everywhere when you’re ready will’ll find you and our agenda is to alter um you know human history and human consciousness that had kind of not happened before and this is really this is the Prototype of the modern Western
Secret society uh that now you know that that idea is sort of lodged it’s become an archetype in the Collective Consciousness particularly in the the modern West the rosin crui took their name from their founder the legendary uh Christian Rosen cruts who traveled widely and was initiated in all temples and traditions
Of the known world before returning to his homeland of Germany to found his own initiatic and mystical order while deeply tied to protestantism and Enlightenment era ideals the roscrans were also Mystics Alchemists magicians and these sort of Proto occultists in an era of burgeoning global intercon activity right the
Printing press and things like this um the manifestos themselves are an interesting snapshot of the period they’re a historical document concretizing a sentiment of humanism Christian piety and burgeoning scientific investigation of the natural world all of which was a product of the reintroduction of her and platonic literature and philosophy
To the West during the Renaissance now we covered a a good amount of that in the last uh the previous lecture platonism and Freemasonry while the entire Trilogy of the manifestos are considered by some to have been authored by a man named Johan Valentine Andre others believe his sort of retrospectively self-proclaimed
Authorship of the chemical wedding to be more valid than claims that he authored the previous two the F and the confessio as these are vastly different in tone content and style from the chemical wedding it’s also you know that’s sort of an interpolation and an inter an interpretation of modern Academia that
He penned all three uh again it’s not agreed upon in his uh autobiography he claims that the chemical wedding was uh was was one of his Works he doesn’t claim that the other two uh were his but he calls it um in Latin a play thing that’s what he
Claims the uh the chemical wedding was to him sort of this play exercise so there is continual disagreement and debate uh about the authorship of the two manifestos of the trilogy but I would say that we do know that Andre was part of a codery of serious Protestant academics referred to
As the tubingen circle uh so named after the town of tubingen where there was a University founded in 1477 and so uh his involvement with this circle of Scholars uh May point to an association with those who did draft the F and the confessio which are respectively the fame and the confession
Of the fraternity at this point it’s all speculation and we’re going to be covering Rosie chrisan and Rosie christianism in Greater detail uh along with the connection to Alchemy and alchemical symbolism in the following lecture uh which will be December 10th I believe whatever the case these Anonymous manifestos seized the
Collective imagination of European society and many wouldbe initiates set out on great quests and Adventures to find the rosie Christian Brotherhood and join their ranks Untold numbers of letters and applications were sent to suspected members uh and organizations connected to the invisible Brotherhood it’s really great we have on the
Historical record a letter or or sort of marginalia written by Elias ashol that um was an appeal uh to the the invisible Brotherhood that he must join their ranks which is it’s very interesting many texts were later anonymously written and or cated and attributed to the rosie Christians but
This however was not always in Praise uh people brandish the term Rosie chrisan sometimes as a uh pejorative something um uh of an accusation as much of the contents of the manifestos uh were politically threatening to clerical authorities of the time some high-profile individuals were publicly accused of being Rosie Christians in
Attempt in an attempt to Outer discredit them now something of particular interest concerning the rosie Christians is that much of their teachings and texts are concerned with or completely composed of symbols esoteric images in fact several volumes have been cated and composed concerning uh just such exegeses now if we revisit what masonry
Has to say regarding itself particularly in in in my own uh jurisdiction we read that quote masonry is a beautiful system of morality veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols the rosie kusian Masonic connection has insinuated itself for centuries we find a poem written in 1638
By Henry Adamson quote for what we do prage is not in Gross for we Brethren of the rosy cross we have the Mason word and Second Sight things for to C things for to come we can foretell a right now as the rosicrucian furer began
To uh die down as Dame Francis Yates has uh termed it very aptly um in her seminal work um Freemasonry enters its quote unquote Rosie crusan period or as Christopher mckintosh has called it uh thus Begins the Masonic phase of Rosie crucian history so that’s a very interesting way to sort of juxtapose
That aside from these explicitly Rosy crucian influences on masonry and the Hermetic order the Golden Dawn there were several other extremely important influences uh particularly on the Golden Dawn um the HGD was not itself that’s her medic Order of the Golden Dawn was not itself chartered as part of a body
In concordance or under jurisdiction of the United Grand Lodge of England um that is the sort of masonic headquarters uh for for for the the British Isles the United Kingdom so therefore uh it was not Masonic so I that’s something that’s really important right because we don’t
Want to get this idea that that the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn is sort of this Masonic appendant body or Masonic affiliate body the same way uh the um SRI was or the srf now is uh but it it sort of was this I want to say black sheep this this
Sort of rebellious child that came from masonry and and had to had to had to sort of leave the family so it drew heavily from Masonic ritual and was an inevitable expression of The Fringe or esoteric Masonic and ult interests popular to many Masons during that time uh these being
Comprised in large part of Scholars antiquarians men of leisure so here we have the three Founders at various stages in their uh Youth and manhood so the man on on the left I believe uh I believe it it will be your left he’s got the um the jewel hanging from his his
Shoulders so that’s the Elder Statesman of uh the esoteric orders as mentioned earlier Dr William Robert Woodman he was Grand sword bearer of the United Grand loue of England and occupied high rank in many Masonic and esoteric Masonic orders he was Supreme Magus of the SR
Until his death in 1891 and had expanded the organization uh from its existence within London to the greater UK and from there to Australia and they were working on getting into the states as well he was also a member of the Christian Fraternal Order within shiar masonry the
Order of the Red Cross of Constantine Woodman died in 1891 just before the formation of the hermetic orders of the the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn’s inner order uh he was never replaced among this ruling Triad that’s a key feature of of um particularly in Golden Dawn
Temples we don’t call them lodges we or chapters we call them temples there is a Triad of three ruling Chiefs and it’s basically for life it doesn’t rotate it’s not Democratic they’re not elected they’re appointed so did he did pass away and he left a a vacant position between
Westcott and Mathers in the ruling Triad so over on the the opposite side uh the young man here in the um s it looks like he’s this is actually I believe a uh a military uniform but it kind of looks like he’s a bellhop in this picture um
That’s uh Samuel little Ms uh he gave himself the title that he’s known more more well by or at least in connection with his name people call him McGregor matters but that he gave himself that title in order to connect himself with um Scottish Highland nobility it’s not
An actually an actual given name it was appropriated so that’s Samuel little Mathers he was raised a Master Mason in January of 1878 and became a member of the metrop Metropolitan College of the SRI in 1882 so as we mentioned before uh you know for Masonic blue Lodge it’s a lodge
For Golden Dawn it’s a temple and for the society roosi Chana it’s typically a college that’s what they call their their local uh groups Mathers was involved in several theosophical based organizations as well now I don’t mean to say the theosophy of of yakob or though we will get to that I
Mean the Theos theosophical Society uh of blavatsky Alcott and William Quan judge the theosophical society had tremendous success in America in the 1870s uh writing the coat tales of the spiritualism which took hold of the country primarily in terms of the media by way of um the fox sisters in Upstate
New York but also because of the American Civil War right people were going you need to contextualize this stuff people many of the men left home died immediately young old uh it was brutal and so people were really looking for a way a hope to connect with their
Lost loved ones um now that’s not to discredit the practice of of uh or the reality of spiritual communication I don’t mean to say that but it’s certainly a reason for the the the public Consciousness to turn their eyes that way so the theosophical society is founded there in New York has tremendous
Success and then makes its way over uh to England in the 1880s so as we said the theosophical society was headed uh by William Quan judge uh Colonel Henry steel Alcott and the de facto uh leader herself the the prime ruler Helena petrona blatsky this theosophical derivative influence
Would be tremendous on matters and impart him with a considerably unique lifestyle among uh the chiefs of the Golden Dawn for one he was a staunch vegetarian an anti vivisectionist as well as a non-smoker you know it can get very very stuffy in uh certain Masonic circles you
Know now as it was then and as particularly then this this age of antiquarianism and uh men who had you know they were military men coming out and joining um and so there were protocols there was uh a sort of gentleman nobility there was a very erudite and you know I guess
Stereotypically Edwardian era English way about these men and that’s not so for Ms he was a Wanderer he was impoverished for most of his life he was an artist he uh was you know he invoked Gods into himself and and and things of of this nature he was the chief
Ritualist of the Golden Dawn he was the one who brought the Beauty and the the the the the gods really into the work of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn he was uh very very Bohemian is the word I’m looking for and and a lot of that uh
Comes from um he started out you know kind of as as a wayward guy neither here nor there a little bit of mil military service but really it’s it’s his work with the the theosophical society and and one uh section of that in particular that sort of um funnels his interests in this
Direction so again his vegetarianism his you lifestyle all extremely unique things for his particular place and time and they were ideals which had gained notoriety and popularity among theosophical circles one such extremely local and pragmatic theosophists was Anna Kingsford who was the president of the London Lodge of The theosophical
Society now after some controversial findings regarding the TS in 1884 Anna Kingsford resigns and forms her hermetic Society this becomes a significant precursor to the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn Kingsford was an activist for women’s rights and a virulent opponent of Viva section so Vivas section is a term it’s basically an
Archaic term for uh scientific use uh of of sort of testing animals you know killing and and and dissecting animals and testing things on them uh in the name of science aside from that she was also principally interested in esoteric Christianity however there’s a little bit of a conflict in uh the Christian
Ethos and what we find recorded in her Diaries she writes in her diary which we have of having psychically killed a certain prominent scientist actually two of them by means of psychic thought projection for crimes against animals in the name of human science progress and she Avers at the time of this writing
That her next Target will be Louie pasture she writes just after the death of Paul ber in 1886 quote I have killed Paul ber as I killed Claude Bernard as I will kill Louie pasture and after him the whole tribe of Viv sectors if I live
Long enough it is a magnificent power to have and the one that transcends all vulgar methods of dealing out Justice to tyrants end quote so uh here again you know we see people of High Spiritual Development and were all still too human her influence was extremely strong on matters in particular particular
Though he and Wescott both served as lecturers and members of the Hermetic Society Ms himself went under the tutelage he became the student of Kingsford and he dedicated his translation of the cabala unveiled to her Westcott eulogized Kingsford saying she was quote illumined by the sun of
Light Westcott himself was also a mentor to matters uh spinning him on to eventually translate noron Rosen R’s work which we just mentioned um of the Christian cabala the cabala unveiled or cabala denudata he also commissioned matters with the further work of creating the Golden Dawn rituals and curriculum and
We’ll of course we’ll get to that so the man in the middle now um the the gentleman with the tie and and and wonderful uh pump that hair do William win Westcott the motive Force behind the formation of the Hermetic order the Golden Dawn he was raised to the sublime degree in
1871 and he was as celebrated an es an esoteric Mason as one was liable to find in fesal British Masonic circles although he did leave many higher ups with the bad tastes in their mouths he was second only perhaps to a man we will find deeply intertwined with the
Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn by anecdote implication and peripheral work in the large lger Rosie chrisian Masonic sector Kenneth McKenzie we’ll come back to brother McKenzie Wescott was appointed successor to Woodman after the latter’s death and became the Supreme Magus for the SRI within that organization there was a
Small secret group of brothers comprising what was known as The Society of eight not much is known about this group other than what is retrieved from personal notes and letters some of which I have seen however there are extent in private collections certain notes corresponding
To work done with the 22 tarot trumps of the major Arcana uh in correspondence to the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet now this uh tying together of these two things was was really cemented just a few decades earlier um in the works of antoan C de Galina French Mason and the compy
Deet that whole uh s sort of cabalistic hermetic attribution of the tarot uh to the the the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet and to the Tree of Life this Society of eight was comprised of an elite selection of esoteric rosicrucian Masons right it’s within the
SRI and from among its roster we find many of the key players in English masonry occult Revival and works which were eminently influential to the formation of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn we know that Wescott is connected to this and we have some of his marginalia and notes regarding this work
They did with the tarot cards in 1878 Wescott took a two-year sabatical from his profession as a medical coroner to study the cabala and hermeticism almost exclusively along with the theorists of the neoplatonic tradition Wescott also served as Master of the quator coronat research Lodge and gave frequent lectures to the
Theosophical society the Hermetic society and contributed to all manner of esoteric Publications and organizations within his sphere of influence uh and the the esoteric communities of uh of the British Isles he and Ms meaning Westcott matters also became members of the esoteric section of the theosophical society in
1888 upon its formation this was a special branch of the theosophical society which was chartered by Colonel alott and Helena petrona blavatsky herself according to a circular on the esoteric sections formation it had been constituted quote to promote the esoteric interests of the theosophical society by the deeper study of esoteric
Philosophy so if you read a lot of blavatsky’s writings she talks about adep adep Hood adeptship all that kind of uh very Sublime fanciful um you know uh idealism uh behind the cultivated individual by way of the Mysteries and she talks a little bit about magic but
She says is magic real yes should you do it no never um really uh she’s more on par with theurgy but she is really attempting to Rel locate the Locust of ancient Authority right during this time and beforehand the Locust of ancient esoteric wisdom was Egypt and uh then by
Way of Greece okay blaski is trying to relocate that to India and say well that no this is where we need to be looking this is where it all comes in platonic orientalism and things like this so the Golden Dawn kind of wescot in particular particular and the works of the esoteric
Section focused on Magic you know they focused on and and bansy wasn’t too cool with that happening so it it took a lot there was a lot of pressure they tried to build this esoteric section up in 1884 um it kind of dissolved people lost interest blaty wasn’t ready to talk
About it 1888 it finally gets uh its dispensation and Westcott and matters are uh are a big part of it now there’s a couple of reasons why I mention all this about the theosophy It’s really because the works Isis unveiled and then the secret Doctrine by Helena Petrova blaski are so incredibly underrated
Historically um they changed the landscape uh culturally politically spiritually when she wrote this stuff it blew the doors off of everything because it was this interesting time where religion still had ascendency but science was was coming to the four and she wrote in a spiritual science sort of
Jargon she developed that and it became you know along with the influence uh just um maybe a century prior of of mesmerism uh these two things came together to really form the esoteric and occult uh Environ um more I would say in touch with the mainstream so when a reader right
Whether casual or initiated approaches the foundational circulars memorandums and instructional documents particularly of the inner Order of the Golden Dawn these are known as the flying rols they’re typically confronted with a mass of vague obscure and archaic terms as is emic to the imprecision of the majority
Of modern readers we are inclined to quote in quote unquote fill in the blanks making our own immediate snap interpretations and interpolations for the sake of navigating the texts to their end we retrospectively fit the words into our current post-modern understandings of however these terms had highly specific meanings and usages
And were common parlament among the theosophic Circles of the day the theosophical society’s greater body of literature in fact generated an entire vernacular tantamount to a technical lexicon or jargon of spiritual science without this understanding any reading of the core materials of the Golden Dawn particularly the flying
Roles of the inner order are without significant context and doomed to misinterpretation and half-baked understanding so uh for anyone interested I’m going to make two well I’ll make one book recommendation right here I would recommend if you’re going to uh seriously investigate especially some of the more technical um flying
Roles of the Golden Dawn that you also get a copy of the theosophical glossery which was uh penned by blaty herself let’s Circle back to a name we mentioned earlier Kenneth McKenzie most Masons particularly those interested in esotericism will be familiar with his name McKenzie is important in the
Formation of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn in several ways he is a character continually orbiting the sphere of Fringe and esoteric masonry a cultism magic and Rosie crucian ISM throughout the mid- 1800s in England and France a linguist and prolific and highly lauded translator McKenzie also
Penned the Royal Masonic kopia or cyclopedia a Monumental and classic work of masonry which cated esoteric interpretations of masonic symbolism uh it Incorporated discussions on cabala and hermeticism Alchemy astrology astronomy and other elements of occultism into a unified encyclopedic Masonic text McKenzie was as mentioned earlier heavily involved in rosicrucian masonry
In 1854 McKenzie met with Pascal Beverly Randolph the American Rosie crusan and later Supreme Grandmaster of the fraternus rosi kruis the oldest rosi cushan order in America McKenzie would go on to collaborate with Robert Wentworth little in the formation of the SRI with Westcott later claiming McKenzie to have been given
Dispensation uh for the SRI by an Austrian High initiate named count aoni and from whom Mckenzie was supposed to have received quote unquote true rosi kruan initiation in 1861 McKenzie visited with the French occultist and onetime Freemason alons Louie Conan better known as elifas Levi
Zahed a large amount of the H OGD outer order material comes from Levy’s work in in uh in particularly in Magic and the Occult right if if you’re familiar with the outer order rituals and grade material and then you go back and you read the doctrine and ritual of high
Magic like a lot of this stuff is already very familiar to you it’s it can be a little astounding Levy had he he carried a certain currency to his name he was very Intrepid uh he was a trained both as a cleric and a journalist right so he had
This highly uh journalistic style um which was actually blended with this kind of uh tease you you know I’m G to tease this information and then I’m gonna pull it back and I’m gonna throw a little bit more at you and pull it back
It’s very very uh it’s a staple of of of the literature of the French occult Revival um it can be very frustrating to read it um but he did that he wrote very sensationally and he um he was a journalist so his name got out there after the publication of these works and
His name carried uh a very very um important onus to it uh to the point where matters actually referenced alfus Levy as having been an initiate of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn or its predecessor in a uh in an inner order flying role so people would kind of
Attach his name to things to to lended credibility but McKenzie visited with him and um and there was uh there was an interesting exchange Mckenzie was also a founding member of the elite Society of eight and uh he was a collaborator friend and Masonic brother of Frederick hawkley a
Mason and Crystal gazer also intimately connected to the formation of the H GD these men all had association with each other uh hawkley uh McKenzie Levy um Edward Boler Litton right the influential author Lord and member of the SRI as well as a man named uh Francis George Irwin Masonic
Brother ESO terorist and reputed member of an earlier manifestation of uh of Rosie Christian man uh Masonry I just want to mention this very briefly because I feel like it needs to be kind of tossed in there um it’s through the work of George Irwin and uh Kenneth
McKenzie they influence a group of Fringe Masons known as the sapay or the Seven Brothers uh this also comes to lend a very particular or specific influence to the Hermetic order the Golden Dawn one more thing about hawkley he’s considered by many to be a primary formative influence on the curriculum of
The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn he collected and transcribed a vast amount of material on Ault sub subjects and uh it’s believed he learned cryst alaman or Crystal gazing from a pupil of Francis Barrett right who wrote the megas and uh sought out students and he and McKenzie uh they
Worked very closely they were they known each other he writes at one point that he had known Mackenzie for 15 or 16 years and was uh one of the most friendly and genial persons he had ever met when sober McKenzie in uh for the March 1851 edition of notes and queries he writes
An article entitled a word to the literary men of England in this article he proposes the foundation of a society of learned men whose principal task would be to rescue the Lost manuscripts in ancient Greek Latin Anglo-Saxon Norse and several other obscure Semitic and Eastern uh WIS wisdom
Traditions and uh again we see him sort of reaching back uh to an idea that was really uh proferred maybe a hundred years earlier um by uh or really 200 almost 200 years earlier by Elias Ash Mo right uh Ash Mo amassed what was arguably the most extensive and
Impressive library in Europe of his day for that reason you know he tied in hermetic philosophy and Rosicrucianism to Freemasonry in a time before there was a United Grand Lodge which told you you know this is sanctioned M masonry this is clandestine uh and these are the
Rituals so that enabled Masons of Ash M’s day to elaborate a system of of masonic philosophy which included to a profound level the aforementioned philosophies as well as neoplatonism and cabala so really what’s going on here to sum it up for this period and bringing in all these characters and this you
Know this this strange timeline of of of of masonic esoteric interest is that we see a tapestry of European occultism expanding before our eyes it’s bewilderingly wide and intricate um and this arguably the the the sinuon right the key feature of this network of occultists is that they are masons it’s
As if the the Masonic fraternity became the uh I would say the edifice in and underneath which they sort of tunneled this esoteric um uh network of occultists and magicians and Crystal gazers and and and and and translators they’re all coming together they’re visiting each other they’re um exchanging texts they’re
Exchanging notes they’re exchanging letters and things like this this network was the very stream from which the modern occult initiatic and magical communities have been born again one would be hardpressed to find among any of these gentlemen Scholars and Intrepid intellectuals any man not a brother of The Craft uh this
Was a finely honed and carefully preserved by way of secrecy network of esoteric Masons and occultists now most importantly in terms of Kenneth McKenzie’s association with the Golden Dawn is that he is the most probable candidate for the origins of the foundational documents of the entirety of the Golden Dawn system
It’s argued between him and hawkley some people say they worked together to create the cipher manuscripts these controversial documents are the Lynch pin upon which hangs the Golden Dawn system its rituals and teachings there are 60-page collection of folios containing the outlines and commentary of a system of magical ritual
And curric ulum which is a compendium of occult knowledge during this uh this age it contains astrology Alchemy tarot cabala hermeticism all collated and encrypted in a simple trmus Cipher obviously named after the famous magician and Abbot of Spawn time mentor to Cornelius Agrippa and paracelsus so the the uh the trieus
Cipher was written in Hebrew and it’s basically a polyalphabetic substitution so the Hebrew letter Alf meaning a would corresponded to uh corresponded to one Beth corresponded to two so it was written in this very strange uh sort of um code through its pa uh though its path of transmission is debated it’s most
Generally agreed that the cipher came into the possession of William WN Wescott by way of McKenzie who upon dying in 1886 left certain Masonic possessions including SRI documents and the cipher to the Reverend brother AFA Woodford who has also been called the fourth founder of the Hermetic Order of
The Golden Dawn though he died just before the order was formed now this all by way of membership and Association within the SRI these men involved were all high-ranking members uh of this organization at one point or another and this manuscript detailed rough outlines of the rituals which proceed in
Successive advancements to a series of Elemental grades Earth to air to water to Fire and a curriculum of study in Western Magic including geomancy astrology tarot cabalistic magic the cipher manuscripts also contain sketches of Temple diagrams and implements you can kind of see red here you know there are some astrological
Symbols like uh Venus there this is called the lightning flash of the Tree of Life um this looks to be uh what would become the the enoan tablets right uh of of John D’s Angelic sessions which are a huge Port of Golden Dawn part of Golden Dawn
Magic so this manuscript ends up being decoded by Wescott in September of 1887 who then passes them on to matters and says okay we’ve got this outline work this into a cohesive and coherent ritual format uh and and and he ends up pulling that out in a curriculum of
Study um as a result we have inherited the rituals and they’re called knowledge lectures of the several grades of the outer Order of the Golden Dawn now this grade system right we talked about Elemental grades you go from Earth to air air to water water to fire the grade system and structure was
Based on the same used in the SRI right the same titles zelot theorius practicus philosophus but those titles and that grade structure were themselves based on the order of the golden Rosie cross while single-handedly formative in the working system of the Golden Dawn the cipher manuscript is also a
Significant source of controversy among Golden Dawn history especially as a later uh as at a later Point Mathers alludes to wescott’s involvement with them to be somewhat fraudulent and problematic what we know of the cipher manuscripts is that they did exist and they came into the possession of
Westcott who decoded them then passes them on to matters uh to format as workable ritual and study however an El elaborate origin story accompanied the manuscript and the quote unquote lawful dispensation of the hd’s first English Temple that is Isis urania number three so in in in many of the Masonic
Circles of of their day in order to get people interested right maybe it maybe it was it was slightly uh irregular but there were bound to be a few esoteric Masons and they were bound to know each other and so in order to get those people interested there typically had to
Be some kind of succession right uh some sort of transmission given by dispensation Charter or some other uh proclamation in order to legitimize it um in order to establish it really as uh frankly joinable it’s kind of like uh leaving breadcrumbs if you want to catch a Mason just leave a paper trail
So Wescott says okay here on the cipher manuscript is an address right and this address he says he writes to it and he says he gets in touch with a frine sprangle a German Adept of the gold and Rosen Crut the gold and Rosie cross so Wescott claims that he is in
Correspondence with this frine sprangle after coming into possession ession of the cipher and translating it he claims that she was an elderly Adept and a chief of the German Rosie crucian order the golden Rosie cross and that she had in the course of their correspondence given Wescott and matters permission to
Charter a new Temple which is why wescot and Ma’s first temple Isis urania is strangely numbered three rather than one right so he’s saying we’re not the first we got a dispensation this goes back to German Rosie kruan masonry so we’re number three that’s kind of how he he
Positions it because there there there’s one other extent Temple uh with the second one having failed and we’ll get we’ll get to more of that at a certain point this correspondent stops and Wescott claims to have received a letter from frine springle companion adepts uh informing him of of her
Death and they assert uh really really that they disagree with her Rogue chartering of this English Temple and they basically say from here on out you’re on your own and they stop all communication at a certain point around 1899 and 1900 uh things get hairy in the
Golden Dawn right just to give context there comes a Schism um you know first between matters and wescot and then between matters and really half the half of his order and they break off right uh some adepts remain in London Ms and and his wife MOA they go to Paris
And so there’s two Splinter orders but during that time before the Schism mats was attempting a coup of the order he wanted to take it over and he he demanded really really strict obedience to to to him and all this stuff but he reveals to um really his most
Active uh Adept and Confidant the actress Florence far uh who was an Adept of the inner order at that time he reveals to her that Wescott had forged those letters and had never been in contact with any quote unquote Secret Chiefs of the order he says that he was uh oathbound to
Secrecy about this now this right here this massive controversy it it it just tears the Golden Dawn part and it’s often cited as a reason to discredit the entire stream of Golden Dawn legitimacy uh right at the outset however we find contradictory evidence both before and after this
Incident in Ms claiming to be in contact himself with Chiefs of the The Secret Chiefs of the order so basically mats goes on to say hey Westcott forged those letters and he has not been in touch with the Secret Chiefs but I have I have been the one
It’s not been him it’s been me and he says every quote unquote every atom of the curriculum and the rituals came into manifestation through him and not Wescott so he’s not saying that it’s fake he’s just discrediting Wescott in an attempt to say like I am the Golden Dawn right uh
What’s that uh letoa you know but um so that’s that that you know you have to read that in context and a lot of or a few of the historians have not done that uh Nick Farrell in his biographies uh King over the water and Ma’s last
Secret he’s been really really good at at kind of fleshing that out and uh Ian Gladwell all in Rush um and uh some of the work done some of the work done on the pan sers uh blog have have come a long way in doing some research to really uh flesh
Out you know the history behind what they were talking about ultimately it’s all going to remain speculation uh but there are key pieces of evidence that can kind of give us a picture of of of what what may have have really taken place now in what was really interesting
Is that okay so Wescott claims to be in contact with the secret chief and she’s a woman that is a physical human being BS claims that his secret Chiefs are non-human or at least non-exclusively human he makes uh contact with a uh you know greatly honored frauder uh luksis
Which means um light out of Darkness or light from darkness and he this this Secret ad the secret Chief um kind of occupies an existence of willed embodiment and disembodiment you know highly developed master who could materialize and dematerialize appear anywhere they wanted at will um and this really this
Right I was talking about that theosophical influence this idea comes into the mainstream and through all occult circles particularly right in the new age right we have our guides now that idea came out of blaty that someone right because what she said she said why
Do I know all this stuff why do I have all the secrets because these ascended masters have been communicating with me telepathically since I was a child duh you know so and you know and that becomes really really big in theosophical circles you see later on
Right uh um Annie bassant and uh CW leadbeater they basically railroad her whole operation after she dies and say well we’re in charge now and here’s what we think it is because now we have Secret Chiefs too so Ma’s kind of playing into this but what’s pretty interesting is that his constant refrain
To his Close Associates was that to be in the presence and under the guidance of The Secret Chiefs were was a strain that he believed would eventually kill him the Irish poet and Golden Dawn initiate William Butler Yates recalls visiting the mses while they were living
In Paris to find that Sam would have these illnesses and M and begin spontaneously bleeding from his mouth and things like this so again we see here not a denial of the existence of any Chiefs but that Wescott was not in contact with them now here’s what’s what’s kind of interesting uh
Westcott refers to uh the secret Chief frine sprangle Mathers says he’s not in touch with her I’m in touch with these Secret Chiefs I’ve been in touch with the Chiefs um later on Mathers meets somebody who he believes to be frine sprangle so again not denying her existence because he fully believes this
Woman to be frine sprangle she lies to him she ends up being a conoman and uh along with her husband basically um publicizes everything in the Golden Dawn when they have to go to court uh but you know he believes that she’s a real person and when they refer
To uh frine sprangle she has a magical motto right so everybody in the Golden Dawn gets this magical motto uh sometimes there’s typically there’s more than one um Ms his MOS were uh deod com faroh with God as my guide and sword as my companion um that was one of them uh
Westcot was non omnis morar not all of me shall die uh Mo Ms um the First full Golden Dawn initiate hers was uh vestigia nram and leave no traces behind now on these these Charters right that that get sent from frine sprangle and the German uh Rosie crusan
Contingency she signs uh frine sprangle this secret Chief Adept she signs a magical motto uh which is sapiens do doitor ostri the wise shall conquer the Stars okay and so they refer to her as soarer or greatly honored soarer SDA now I don’t mean to say anything
Conclusive about this but I find it extremely interesting when they find I guess the Edward matland uh who is an associate of anak Kingsford after she dies she dies kind of young because of chronic lung issues um he takes uh some of her collected works and sort of not
Publicizes them but I think gives them away or puts them in a trust and we find uh in one of Anna kingsford’s private books I think it was called uh theologized astrology we find it uh written on the inside jacket sapiens doitor ostri the wise will conquer the Stars
SDA uh so we find this kind of interesting um perhaps influence for the character of frine sprangle in Anna Kingsford and her relationship uh as founder of the Hermetic Society from which the Golden Dawn uh came forward right they basically used her magical motto um
To uh I don’t want to say fabricate but to represent this Chief Adept and not only that but frine sprangle name was purported to be Anna Anna sprangle Anna Kingsford SDA very interesting stuff there and a lot of that has not been covered in the major works you know ow
And Bob Gilbert and stuff like that that’s not something that’s very well known so I think it’s it’s a really interesting piece of information again it’s like it’s like a mystery novel so one of the last pieces of thing uh concerning this one of the last sort
Of trajectories I want to discuss um is some of the more recent uh research and erudition revealing really interesting facts pertaining to the possible origin and transmission of German rosac crucian lines to other parts of Europe specifically in our study here of the Golden Dawn in a lecture given by wescot to the
Order on the history of the Golden Dawn which is now it’s still preserved we still have it he States the following quote this Temple Isis urania number three was consecrated as a successor to Manis Temple number two which had ceased to exist owing to the death of all of
Its Chiefs the temple number one of licked liba leben is a group of Continental Mystics who have not been in the habit of Performing ceremonies in open Lodge but have conferred the grades chiefly in privacy and in the presence of two or three members end quote so until a handful of years ago
This quote unquote mother Lodge of the Golden Dawn right uh under the the German Rosie crucian uh golden Rosie cross line this this Lodge called licked Li liben was thought to have been an invention of wcos however recent research by en rush and uh and some publication by Ian Gladwell has revealed
The existence of a lodge in Germany at this time near nurmberg with such a name in The Lodge Journal of German Freemasonry volume 10 of 1867 there is explicit mention of a lodge licked lib leben I’m gonna quote from that now uh lubeca John Schoolmaster born 2nd March
1801 in viar in volut Housen died 30th June 1878 was received into the freemasonic lodge of the three Cedars of Lebanon lot beer founded in 1864 the lodge leaked Le and unan which means uh light love and life but because it was not recognized due to substantial deviations from General rituals it was
Only received after 1874 here again we see uh an interesting explicit mention that this Lodge was irregular because of its Divergence from accepted Masonic ritual now looking more into the character of lud Becker who founded this Lodge uh we find that he was a philosophy teacher
And author and he wrote about the Asen uh in relation to Freemasonry the early heniz judaic sects the early Christians the therapeuti of ancient Alexandria he was tying masonry into ancient Christianity helenistic philosophy Egyptian rights and we find find a lot of this stuff in the Golden
Dawn in the cipher manuscript as a matter of fact later on after the Schism and after this sort of Revelation that Westcott had forged the spraw the the the uh frine sprangle letters um an Adept named Dr Robert Falcon um basically says in a series of
Letters uh to uh JW broenes he says that it can’t be true these people have to exist that the the Continental origins The Rosy Christian origins of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn cannot be fake they can’t be false um so uh Falcon actually as a consequence of his
Persistence uh and through a ciru and at times extremely dangerous and unproductive series of inquiries eventually finds what he believed unequivocally unequivocally to be the rosie crusan Chiefs he was looking for and where he found them was in Germany in fact The Rosy crusan Masonic line in Germany where he finds his chief
His Chiefs uh they come from a line Associated heavily with lot Becker the founder of the licked Le and lean Lodge as a side note of interest to people you know that that are within this kind of scope of History Falcon also records that the anthroposophist and Clairvoyant Mystic Rudolph Steiner
Was a ended up being kind of the man behind the curtain for Rosy kruan uh or German Rosy kusian Freemasonry so there is an incredible chain of transmission and influence here for anyone who’s interested which uh unfolds amid German masonry and Rosie christianism of the 18 and 1900s and is
So incredibly interesting and mysterious that to include it here would be to hijack the presentation so message me if you like I’ll send you some resources for your own investigation the last connection I want to draw between a German Rosy crucian sort of movement and the Golden Dawn um is with yakob
Buma so buma was not a Mason he was a cobbler that is a Shoemaker and a Lutheran Theologian he’s known for a series of mystical Visions which transformed his philosophy and Consciousness and which he recorded and elaborated in a series of manuscripts one of which is called the Aurora the
Dawn so I want to say that the Golden Dawn this despite all the different magical techniques and skills studied and acquired within it is patently a system of magical alchemical Spiritual Development in other words it embodies theurgy and it is explicitly referred to as such repeatedly by its
Founders there are three key diagrams in the Golden Dawn system which provide the underlying cosmology and metaphysical and so mological basis for this trajectory of Spiritual Development and you get them in successive grades they’re not just given to you you you are shown them pictorially in ritual uh as you you know
You in a sequence sequentially and here they are this is the Garden of Eden before the fall on the left the Garden of Eden after the fall in the middle and the restoration or reintegration the christic sacrifice uh on the right also known as the Justified one this is essentially a pictorial
Representation of the concept esoteric concept known as reintegration this term reintegration will be familiar to martinus circles because it’s a term used frequently in the works of the unknown philosopher Lou Claude s marttin and one of his teachers Martina de pasquali his other teacher s s Martin
Regarded yakob BMA as one of his two spiritual Masters along with Martina de pasquali now sometimes it’s thought that martinist and GD work are inharmonious if not incompatible and it’s simply not the case uh while the mses were living in Paris in the early 1900s Sam Mathers
Joined uh Gerard anos uh otherwise known as Papu or papus he joined his martinous order and papus joined Ma’s Alpha at Omega Splinter order of the the Golden Dawn at the time I quote from a lecture given by matters to the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn quote the martinist
As long as they adhere to the teachings of their founder should not be out of harmony with the RR ATAC end quote now the RR at is the inner Order of the Golden Dawn so let’s after viewing these let’s take a look at some of the bulad do
Diagrams we have here kind of you know a a similar vision of Eden before the fall right got a principio over here on the right in the beginning then these diagrams here represent the chaos that ensues right that kind of almost Serpentine Dragon likee uh chaos that ensues after the
Fall into generation right uh the planetary spheres things like this we should be very familiar to to martinist and people who also um study uh you know platonic and neoplatonic uh cosmology and cosmogony which we covered um a bit of in the previous lecture and then finally there’s the restoration the dragons uh
These Rays you know being kind of fired but beaten back by the cross you know so there’s a really great article on this on on the pan sofer’s blog so there’s there’s a couple of different uh ways that this could have entered into the Golden Dawn stream we
Don’t know but we see that the diagrams are heavily derivative of based on these uh you know um the engraver of these plates was also a German theosophy right that’s um uh the bamian theosophy rather than blaty uh who spent some time in similar organizations in England right he cross
Paths with with uh Associates of Fred hawkley who we’re talking about but it could also be um through a kind of martinist intercourse because martinist circles had been around uh even in the 1840s so I’ve mentioned the formation of the HGD out of masonry and all of or many of the esoteric
Masonic uh circles organizations um a and people now the the HGD was filled out primarily by Masons of later prominence within the fraternity and in the external world right guys like uh the Irish poet WB yeets uh scholar and translator Arthur Edward weight also the symbolic Mastermind behind the
Construction of the writer weight Tarot deck which was a um revisioning of the cards of the tarot uh which gained enormous popularity in the public sphere but I want to talk for a moment about the women of the Golden Dawn and I’ll include Anna Kingsford Andor Anna sprangle uh in that
Category now going back to what I just mentioned about the ryer weight tarot right now we’re referring to it as the ryer weight Smith deck and that’s due to the due recognition of the artist Behind these cards Pamela Coleman Smith also a member of the HGD in the early days her
Artistic talents brought weight’s vision and symbolic arrangements to birth which artistic contribution is at least 50% responsible for the de deck’s success there were many other highly influential women in the first class of the HGD Annie hornman for instance she was a financier to the matses essentially kept them and the Golden
Dawn Alive by way of uh of of support really financial support and otherwise in larger society she founded the Abbey theater in Dublin Ireland and essentially brought reparatory theater to Britain she was seen as a as a mother figure to the Isis urania Temple group and was perhaps the leader with most
Vision for the temple during and after this Infamous Schism period and here on here on the left we’ve got Pamela Coleman Smith I included her picture in the second slide uh also known as pixie but in the middle here we have Florence far very famous actress and Muse uh also
A leading figure among the adeps of the inner order she basically created because she was so gifted in terms of Clairvoyance um and so in touch with uh the cabalistic the interior cabalistic arrangement of of of the work that she ended up starting a circle within the
Inner order uh that had highly unique cabalistic work this called the sphere group she also worked to beautify Golden Dawn ritual with her insistence that movement and speech within ceremony should be as in a dramatic play graceful purposeful and musical she pioneered a method of vibrating words and divine
Names which she called cleating which is still studied actually in some GD groups she was also among the adepts to take a position of leadership and responsibility before and during the Schism here on the right we have ma gone a legendary figure in her own time within the Irish revolutionary movement
She was only briefly a member but she’s so inspired with her fiery character uh so many of the other initiates like WB Yates um that she not only Le left a lasting imprint on the branch of History regarding sort of you know Irish Independence but also within British
Occultism uh she inspired Ates to create this Celtic Norse Celtic der derivation of the Golden Dawn called the castle of Heroes but perhaps the quintessential initiate of the Golden Dawn in its entirety was MOA Ms vestigia as she was called um from her motto vestigia nram I leave leave behind no
Traces she was wife companion and Magic partner to Sam Ms um she was a very gifted Clairvoyant a Cirus her birth name was Mina beon and she was the sister of the French philosopher HRI bergon right of the Elan vital sort of uh philosophy that he in introduced MOA
Was the first initiate to be put fully through the rituals of the outer and inner Order of the Golden Dawn she was an extremely gifted Clairvoyant and along with her husband Sam using a method now known as the ringing dis she channeled much of the inner order
Curriculum of magic being a former art student she created the scheme of color magic which is part and parcel of the adeptus minor curriculum and the rosy crucian magic of the inner order she adorned the temp temple implements with Splendid imagery beautifying the temple space and leaving behind wonderful works
Of Golden Dawn art such as the paintings of the four kobam at top the twin pillars which are now in the safekeeping of a private collection within the greater Golden Dawn Community these are the twin pillars that they used in the original Golden Dawn Temple um and they are I have passed through
Between them I’ve touched them with my hands they are just as beautiful today as they must have been over a hundred years ago she also wrote papers delivered lectures and taught Clairvoyance many of these lessons and study AIDS are still in use in the modern HD she was extremely gifted uh in
That kind of intuitive Clairvoyant space but she she walked the middle path of the tree she was a true student of the Golden Dawn a true Golden Dawn Adept not allowing herself to be pulled fully into that Airy kind of ethereal hazy State of Consciousness which was so typical of of
Of trans mediumship and Clairvoyance of her time um the Golden Dawn is is opposed to this she also took on serious responsibilities and was essentially the fourth chief of the Golden Dawn the most seasoned and most senior initiate right she was the one who was put through the
Entirety of the Golden Dawn system whereas in order to get the temple up and running wescot matters and Woodman just kind of took on the titles without having to go through those rituals at first after Sam’s death of Spanish influenza in 1918 she continued to teach
And Lead their Splinter order of the GD the alpha at Omega her motto being vestigia NOA retrum I leave no Trace behind aside from her Golden Dawn and artistic work this is largely true very little of personal record is extent of either of the mses but they were certainly the
Prototype of the magical couple which embody that energetic polarity which is such an elusive yet essential aspect of all powerful magical work which has also been called the circuit of force just want to show here the uh the beautiful Charter this was the first Charter of the Hermetic order the Golden
Dawn it’s got the four carob beam in the quarters and it lists the uh the magical mots that they had at the time these were slightly changed so they had the rituals but there was no inner Order of the Golden Dawn they knew it they knew it to be at
Its core Rosy kusian right but they had no inner order curriculum until 1892 that’s about four years after its initial formal formation uh and that’s also the year after frine sprangle had quote unquote died and the Continental adepts had uh written to inform uh Westcott and matters they were now on their own
So it’s at this point the mathers’s resort uh really heavily to psychism using this ring and dis method uh in order to obtain the materials for the in the inner order and that’s really the the magical work um you you’re really doing it as an initiate in the in the inner
Order this second or inner order was specifically Rosie kusian referred to as the RR at AC the rosai ruia at Oris Ruby rose and cross of gold and the rosy crucian Mythos was heavily incorporated into the five equals6 ritual of the adeptus minor now this ritual might be a little
Bit of a spoiler but I’ll give you time to to to tune out or mute me the ritual of the 56 requires in order to be performed a seven-sided room with high specific images diagrams and colors and this room is meant to be representative of the tomb of Christian Rosen
Cruits right the Vault of the Rosen crucians without this the ritual cannot be performed indeed it would render the great is completely meaningless to emit this architectural feature again I want to point out this rosik crusan trajectory of initiation and Magic within the inner order is a system of Spiritual Development specifically theoric
Magic the outer order grade system with its Elemental in initiations so just just so you know I’m I’m going to start talking now a little bit more about the Golden Dawn system itself the outer order grade system with its Elemental initiations uh corresponding to the paths here and the sephir rot
Particularly of the lower half uh of the cabalistic Tree of Life symbolize and enact through magical means an alchemical process within the initiate so the outer order kind of takes place down here right and it’s an alchemical process you’re being put through an alchemical process right moving through the elements and the
Stages and then I like to put it this way in the outer order uh the magic is done to you in the inner order you begin begin to do the magic so upon completion of the outer there was when when when the inner order was first formed there was no guarantee
That you’d be invited to join it in fact as mentioned earlier originally the members of the Golden Dawn were completely aware unaware for the most part of there even being an inner order but if one had proven their qualifications to the satisfaction of the temple Chiefs they would be
Initiated into the five equals six so they’d be passed on to to the sphere of teerth to begin proper theoric ritual and act actual magic we read from flying roll 19 penned by Wescott among the objects for which you have joined the second order some are specially named by the obligation which
You have taken and others are indicated by the documents which you have received on loan speaking generally however we may say that the main object is is what is called the higher magic or the development of the spiritual sides of our Natures in contradistinction to the purely intellectual as regards Spiritual
Development you promised in the obligation to use every effort to purify and exalt the spiritual nature so that you may be able to unite yourselves with what the hermetist calls his quote higher genius now as regards this Spiritual Development in the first place we mean by it that you perform or Endeavor to
Perform the transmutation of the vital forces of life into higher currents of life or rather their transmutation out of the lower into the higher so that you can use them for the purpose of theia so it’s here that we come to the actual magic of the system right this is
In sharp contradistinction as he says to to Mere intellectualism and study or or even natural or folk Magic right on the contrary here is an advanced spiritual technology a system of ceremonial which to this very day I feel comfortable saying is is one of the most intricate and when perform correctly effective
Forms of ritual magic to to yet develop that’s a little bit about the difference about the cabalistic layout um uh of the outer order and the inner order and and kind of how they’re separated right one is kind of this alchemical initiatic thing and then you move through and you’re supposed to
Start as Wescott says here transmuting the lower into the higher very alchemical right um uh you know um volatize what is fixed and and and fix what is volatile and uh and then begin doing theery yourself nobody’s going to do it for you anymore yet how do we arrive at this
Kind of esoteric exegesis of masonic material I’m going to just for a moment quote my friend and uh uh worshipful brother Jamie Paul Lamb’s seminal work myth magic and masonry and this is this is kind of an extended quote but I find it to be so superb and so
Apropo brother lamb writes Freemasonry and ceremonial magic are generally considered to be mutually exclusive systems however it can be demonstrated that the long running process of cross fertilization which had occurred between these two simly seemingly disperate Traditions has left both IR irreversibly altered and further that to extract the
Qualities of one from the other would render one system formally unrecognizable and the other substantially anemic the recognizable structure of modern ceremonial magic most popularly represented by the hog the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn system and its offshoots is largely based on Masonic ritual conversely the mystical or
Numinous quality of masonic ritual represents the vestigial remnants of the mystery traditions of the Western World which served as the ancient storehouses of collective WIS collected wisdom and Magic it seems that perhaps since the end of the 19th century occult Revival the regular blue Lodge Freemason has not been
Adequately instructed to perceive the often cryptic occult motifs present in Masonic ritual this is likely because he has not been mentored from the perspective of the Hermetic Arts nor has he been given the impetus to independently develop the necessary reference points allowing him to distinguish the Hallmarks of ceremonial magic such as sephirotic
Configurations gatric num numeric miral significance invocational and evocation P passages and other magical operations and formulas and lastly he says similarly the modern ceremonial magic practitioner often fails to observe that the Lion’s Share of their ritual and grade system is patterned on Long established Masonic ritualism and Rosy crucian inherited
Fraternal structure not to mention the fact that the very idea of ceremonial Magic by and large comes to us in its modern form almost solely due to Masonic scholarship and restoration so with brother Lamb’s superb work here quoted as preface uh I want to proceed into um the the final
Portions of the presentation here and talk about uh a little bit more the parallels between Golden Dawn system and and Freemasonry as we have seen the outer order system is modeled upon something referred to as the cabalistic tree of life it’s a lineal diagram um essentially corresponding to the underlying Essences of material
Reality right we find spheres here these are the sephirot we find paths right these are called the the navitat sometimes the Spheres are passive right they’re sort of centers of force in which the initiate arrives when admitted to a grade or degree in which to symbolically psychologically and
Magically spend their time and the paths leading to them are the roads and action undertaken on the journey from sphere to sphere grade to grade at each of these ritualistically specific figures from Egyptian Greek samian hebraic and other religious pantheons and myth myological pantheons appear delivering teachings
And symbols to the initiate the use of symbolic diagrams in this system is extensive now we find that cabala and cabalistic interpretations of masonic ritual uh and teachings is not this is not a superimposition right um at least not over the rituals come which come to most
Of us in the modern day it’s attested by uh Albert Pike and others and alluded to by Albert Mackey masonry is founded upon uh cabalistic principles and ideas we find evidence for this fact um in the influence of the cabala club of daguer as well as the work done by William
Preston in his several Masonic ritual degree lectures uh Incorporated in the 1700s that essentially baked cabala into masonry however as mentioned earlier it resides in a highly symbolic and somewhat latent State whereas the golden Dawn’s goal was to instruct elaborate and practice these cabalistic principles through ritual and
Study the idea of light as a symbol and vehicle of spiritual Revelation and evolution is just as Paramount in the HGD as it is in masonry right the number of officers of the neoy hall are the same uh in term as as the enter in the blue Lodge with
Their positions only slightly modified to reflect a more rigidly cabalistic floor plan but for the most part we find the solar analogy the hierophant corresponding to the worshipful master sits in the East right the lodge being uh um arranged west to east and governs the lodge from
There giving his orders to the several officers initiating the candidate and opening and closing the temple by their aid and assist assistance this officer is the Master of Ceremonies and according to Golden Dawn ritual quote expounder of the Mysteries explicitly representing the Rising Sun The hierophant travels from his seat
In the East to the altar to do three things right this trajectory to pray on the candidates behalf to obligate them and then to bring the light from the East to the candidate the higher us over here in the west this corresponds to the senior Warden and is uh is situated again in
The west near the entrance to the temple in the place of the Setting Sun he is a Ward and guard of the ceremonies and watches over the Lesser officers in the doing of their work again he represents the Setting Sun Twilight and last Light before total darkness this officer worked closely
With the hierophant and is the next most senior member of the temple therefore we see a solar orientation from west to east and the Stations of the primary officers uh representing the movement of the sun now though there does reside an officer station in the North in the
Temple space of the Golden Dawn Arrangement um while that’s not the case in in in blue Lodge the the station there represents the Waters of creation the dark primordial firmament from which creation Springs um but is also referred to as the place of greatest Darkness uh ignorance and necessity candidate for initiation is
Also Hoodwinked and bound when admitted um and those are removed at a certain uh point which will be familiar to to Brethren of the craft the candidate is led by this Central officer here the Hegman symbolizing the higher aspirations of the candidates soul and is the physical representative embodiment of the candidate’s higher
Self now when when guiding the candidate the motion is typical right Jessel sunwise in a clockwise motion around the temple space at various points tokens signs words and passwords are exchanged and the candidate is variously Led before placed within and later LED through the quote unquote symbolic Gateway of occult
Knowledge the twin pillars of her and Solomon yakin and Boaz or jacin and Boaz in a masonic lodge in numerous ways the rituals are nearly identical in format and feature and this is clearly because the rituals of the HGD were created by Masons however it’s important uh that we make
Mention of the significance um and in my own opinion really the by experience the efficacy of this extraction examination an elaboration of the cabalistic and hermetic spiritual content which is within the bones of masonry itself and this is what the Golden Dawn undertakes what’s more the extensive curriculum of study including the
Memorization of several scriptural languages cabalistic information and correspondences alchemical terms and processes tarot and astrological attributions and systems and more and that’s just in the outer Order of the Golden Dawn symbolism derived from Masonic bodies uh inclusive of blue Lodge and appendant bodies as well as Rosie crusan Christian
And Egyptian symbols uh they’re inclusive uh of both iterations of the Blazing star of masonry right the pentagram and the hexagram feature extensively in in Golden Dawn uh ritual and symbolism in fact the founders of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn created rituals based on this geometry
Right right we know it as the greater and lesser pentagram and hexagram rituals another interesting point is is uh has to do with the the the Royal Arch of the Holy Royal Arch degree right uh in in Golden Dawn ritual we conceptualize that Arch as the rainbow of
Promise the rainbow which appeared to Noah After the flood right the veil which which which really on the cabalistic tree has to be pierced um to become an Adept it’s called CET meaning bow and it represents the cabalistic attribution um of the the Hebrew letters
Kofin and taao to the lower paths of the tree of life right now if you look at the Keystone here of the the the Royal Arch we we see kette written you know at the top half of that that top bow uh spells out the transliteration that we that I have here
On the top left it spells the transliteration right there kette the bow and there’s an interesting correspondence between the the Royal Arch degree and and uh some of the the later degrees in the the outer Order of the Golden Dawn another thing that is exam examined in Golden Dawn ritual and curriculum are
The 12 tribes of Israel corresponding to the 12 signs of the zodiac which are elementally grouped into three groups of four earth air water and fire the triplicities now Freemasonry has an extremely integral and extensive Astro theological analogy grafted into it particularly in the Master Mason and
Royal Arch degrees right the Royal Arch being considered during the founding of the Grand Lodge uh of England to be a part of blue Lodge masonry Robert huitt Brown penned a small yet brilliant and influential text on the Astro Theology of the Masonic myth entitled Stellar Theology and Masonic astrology I
Recommend everyone read it there’s also the alchemical correspondence to the three Chief officers we discussed in the neoy hall right um and the three Chief officers of the Masonic Lodge um particularly as phases of alchemical transmutation the NGO in the west the albo in the South and center and the rubedo in the
East again we also find the twin pillars and checkerboard floor as features in Golden Dawn rituals now could continue but for the sake of time I’m going to stop there with those correlations as I said earlier you know the outer order is a period of study and
Being exposed to the this symbolism and put through the rituals uh undergoing the initiations but the inner order is where the initiate begins to perform magical operations according to finely honed protocols building upon everything they learned and assimilated in the outer so here here’s the uh the grade
Structure according to the Tree of Life the the neoy the right the sort of introductory or probationary grade it’s not on the tree you move to Malou become a zader you Traverse these this you know the path of TAA to yod and then uh becoming a theoric in air you move to
Practicus you’re in in hod and water you move to netak philosophers fire this is the highest point of the outer order and then there’s this Gulf here that we call the portal and you are to you are to wait in in in in that area before um
Passing through to uh to T farith I’m going to correspond here how how the this system works with the um I guess I would I would correspond it to the grades of masonry so this lower half of the tree which the initiate traverses during the course of the outer order is
Representative of their immediate psychological con constituents we refer to this cabalistic as the lower ruach the elements of the psyche and the personality each corresponding to an empedoclean element Malou to Earth physicality your physical environment your Earthbound stability yod to air uh the Treasure House of images memories dreams fears mental energy in
General the movement and rushing quality of the Mind hod to water a further extension of the mind and its reflective capacity but also the emotional life and then net sock to fire passion creativity the internal renovating uh impulse this outer order trajectory as we see pre preceded by the neoy
Uh can be grouped into the equivalent of the first degree of masonry so these these five degrees or or grades neoy solot theorius practicus philosophers this is the EA of of the Golden Dawn and it represents the formula of spiritual Alchemy which is undertaken by the initiate now between the sephir netak
And teerth we find one two three four five Paths of the portal only one of which is fully open to the initiate the path of Sak Temperance for as it is said quot straight is the way and narrow the gate this portal you know really archaically it means like we think of it
Terms of science fiction but archaically they were saying doorway you’re in the doorway you’re not in the room yet it’s another probationary degree in which the initiate must spend nine months now that’s a later development of the GD system but as a living tradition I would say the GD is incomplete without the
Portal um it’s a preparation before admission to the 5 equal 6 into the sphere of teerth the central sun and the adeptus minor degree so so as I as I mentioned here we have you know separating the the the lower half of the tree from from teerth
The central Sun the medial point on the tree of life we have that Veil the portal and you’re centered here now this this p here uh is corres corresponds to the temperance card of the tarot as well as the astrological sign of Sagittarius the Archer as if uh the initiate
Themselves were an arrow being drawn back along a bow from which they were about to be fired piercing this Veil entering into the light of the central Sun of teerth hence the name right the Golden Dawn this portal degree you spent a long time there is equated to the second degree the
Fellowcraft degree of masonry then having entered into the adeptus minor grade the initiate once more repeats the elemental trajectory of alchemical transmutation according to the scheme laid out in the outer order beginning beginning as a neoy adeptus minor then you progress to zelot adeptus minor all the way to philosophus adeptus
Minor um and then you move on to really you know very rarified air 6 five adeptus uh adeptus major I I won’t say anything about that finally the initiate undergoes the ordeals and obligations of the five equals six of which I will give only slight further intimation here but
Suffice it to say that this corresponds to the third or Sublime degree of masonry in this ritual during the obligation of the initiate into tith they are obligated upon certain physical areas of the body which correspond to this cabalistic tree of life in their own microcosm at each anatomic region a
Clause of the obligation is applied now in the teerth center encompassing your heart and your solar plexus region the initiate is obligated to apply themselves unceasingly to the great work of being being gradually raised and United with their Divine higher genius I repeat that being gradually raised and
United with their Divine hired genius that’s the tifereth Clause of the tith degree it also alludes to a central or medial location right a point of balance a Middle Chamber perhaps where the initiate ascends once they have surpassed all the knowledge of the physical world in order to receive further instruction in things
Transcendent now this higher Divine genius is often conflated largely by way of Edward Alexander Crowley uh with the Holy Guardian Angel this had to do with his very brief intense and uncomfortable foray in the Golden Dawn during a time of strife and Schism and this was also while Mathers
Was attempting to publish his translation of the abelan operation which references the holy guardian angel higher Divine genius however is a term ultimately derived from the translations of the platonic and neoplatonic texts available of their time Thomas Taylor translated the word Dion as genius rather than demon and for good reason
Diamon does not mean demon as we understand the word rather it’s a a guiding or tutelary Spirit there were good diamonds and there were bad diamonds while the higher Divine genius and holy Guardian Angel are similar there is an important difference now uh going back a little bit neop
Platonically we find in procas um his commentary to Plato’s Parmenides discussing the diamond he makes the distinction that it can be viewed and experienced as both an interior and an exterior entity now what I found is that the tendency with the with the Holy Guardian
Angel is to in a way um objectify and exteriorize it now that’s that’s not universally true um but typically it’s symbolically represented by an a separate entity a a guardian angel whereas the higher Divine genius is often um talked about and experienced on a more interior level
Generally needless to say uh each person has their own experience of these entities but this concept and distinction is extremely important because it alludes to something perhaps an aspect of one’s spiritual architecture which transcend ends their lowercase s self altogether right that which was dead within us while the lower Persona lives and
Reigns again as Plato alluded to in the gorgius right Som SEMA birth to the physical is in some sense a death to the spiritual yet when the lowercase s self is sacrificed suffers a death then that which was dead within comes alive again the words of Christian Rosen cruits
According to the f fraternitatis are repeated at a specific part of the five equal six ritual this means in God we are born in jeshua Christ we die by the Holy Spirit are we reborn in the next lecture which will be on De December 10th I’ll be more thoroughly exploring Rosie kushan and
Alchemical influences in the Masonic tradition ritual and lectures also this winter um end of December around Christmas I’m going to be releasing the first part of a multi-part series covering a fullscale history of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and sometime before that I’ll be releasing a
Series on uh Freemasonry itself likely be called what is Freemasonry uh this is going to be on the Arcanum YouTube channel I hope you’ll join me there and I thank you for joining me today um and I guess we can move on to the question
And answer but we might want to take a bathroom break well it has been an intensive uh intensive lecture with a lot of information and I’m my guts tell me that much of this will uh end up in your book on Golden Dawn and uh it’s a wonderful wonderful
Uh uh collection of information so uh let’s take a two three minutes uh break so we can stretch the legs and then we go uh for Q&A sessions there are questions that are posted on YouTube on uh uh here on chat and I have mine and
Yeah okay let’s uh let’s have a break so meanwhile uh we are getting for Q&A session uh please prepare your questions and uh comments uh I know many of you are part of different orders especially Golden Dawn might be an interesting one and we are all learning
Here well many of us I would say and any comments and question questions would be interesting to explore further the topic and the order which is very interesting beginning and foundational uh myths let’s say so we break for two minutes and we’ll be back soon okay now microphones are enabled so we can
Continue on with Q&A session so uh let me start with uh one question that has been posted on YouTube well first of all I just want to say thank you all for hanging with me I I had no idea how long that was gonna be
So I appreciate it that was it it was two hours over two hours all right well that’s fine we we had such an experience of long lectures and uh when it’s coming and when this uh is there uh we try not to stop and uh that’s fine absolutely fine it’s a wonderful uh
Wonderful two hours full of information so first question uh comes uh from calib U where does the CH cisero line of uh Golden Dawn descend from and how is it different from the others John Michael GRE um okay I have to be pretty careful here just because I know
Both of them but I’ll probably be talking to one of them soon but um so really the Cicero line is pretty easy to flesh out I talked about Dr Robert Falcon right I mentioned that uh he was he went to uh Continental Europe in search of these proof of of these Rosie
Crusan uh Chiefs and he found them and it was associated with lot Becker and and Rudolph Steiner after the Schism he after enough time he ends up becoming chief of the London contingency uh and that becomes the Stella matutina or the um the Morning Star right Golden Dawn by Any Other Name
Uh but they have to change the names not because they split but because the Golden Dawn got into that big controversy with the conwoman they were public it was all over the news and so they they wanted to get rid of the name Golden Dawn so he calls it the Stella
Matutina now he uh he has several lodges um you know uh in in Bristol and in London and uh Israel regery right from New York comes over he studies uh he’s actually um Crowley’s personal secretary for a very brief brief period of time but then later he joins the Bristol Temple of the
Stella matutina um under Robert Falcon and those adepts I believe Falcon probably died before he he was uh he was initiated probably so regery um kind of uh he does his own thing he you know he’s he makes it to the inner order he’s very quick um they say that
You know there’s a minimum of like five years in the zelot adeptus minor curriculum and he does it in like two uh so he becomes disillusioned really with the what he considers the ease and the incompetence um uh the ease through which he was able to pass uh through the
Grades and the incompetence of of leadership so he publishes the Golden Dawn right it’s all out there we have it it’s called the black brick um colloquially and uh a lot of most of that stuff is what’s used now those rituals in there differ um from the original Golden Dawn rituals
It’s not exactly the same they’re a little bit more florid personally I like the verb I like the wording much better you can tell I’m I’m I’m a little bit more verbose but um those are the Stella matutina rituals that he passes on but all the the the the the instructional
Stuff written penned by Ms uh the MS is Annie hornman all that stuff it’s in there it’s it’s gold um chick sisero begins to study under Grady mcer right who comes from a different line associated with with Crowley and uh um thma and uh a AA and and Otto um he
Starts studying with Grady MC Mery and MC and Grady and and Israel actually they’re in communication with each other right um they’re it’s they talk now Now by this point in his life Israel regty is living in Sedona Arizona and um chick writes to him about how to start working
Golden Dawn style magic and they have a series of correspondences and they also um they meet up and they do work together now eventually Grady and Israel tchick you got to be one or the other you can’t practice um you know uh really Crowley based stuff and Golden Dawn based stuff they’re
Different uh in in fundamental ways uh they should not be worked simultaneously pick one or the other both of them say that and so chick picks the Golden Dawn uh Israel regty then comes out after chick has built that seven-sided Vault I tell you about right um the the Vault of
The adep this is required in order to make a Golden Dawn Adept it is a requirement he um he he he builds it physically and uh Israel regery comes and agrees to do the Consecration and he consecrates The Vault space he performs uh a temple Consecration and he consecrates and installs three adepts
That day uh and chick is one of them so um and through continued you know corespondence and working with uh um Israel regty chick builds his hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn now what’s really interesting about this is that the last Temple of the Stella matutina do Dr Robert Falcon’s order
From which Israel regularity came right he inherited the Splinter order it the last Temple far raah in New Zealand they burned most of their records and they closed their doors in 1978 and that’s the same year chick opens up his Temple um so that differs in a in a lot of ways uh
We do things are very specific I am a member of the the HGD you know I was made uh an Adept in in the Vault of the adep down there with with chick and Tabby um and uh I’ve been through that curriculum I’ve been through that course
Of study um we work the Stella matutina rituals we work the reg the regy curriculum um at a certain point though like you’re it’s we’re not working what’s in the books anymore uh you have to get pretty far along in order for that to be the
Case but there there is a certain ethos there’s a certain egregor um there is a certain focus on Practical Magic that you know that’s the focus all the stuff that I talk about all the history all the stuff that’s you know that’s there but we’re not an academic an academic Stu
Study group um in that way where a lot of or some groups will study uh the Golden Dawn and Golden Dawn magic and think that the lbrp is kind of like the biggest deal um and and study it more intellectually we like to say that and
It’s kind of True by the time you’re through the the outer order and into the inner you should have what what is the equivalent of a college degree in Magic but um the emphasis there is much more on your personal alchemical spiritual journey um and uh that’s I mean there is
A greater Golden Dawn Community we have uh informal concordant right it’s we we get most of us get along there’s probably about maybe one order that just like you know um but I won’t get into that and uh and and we participate right in in these group exchanges for instance
Uh Shameless plug um cariban press uh has has issued a series of excellent journals called the light extended a journal of the Golden Dawn for the past couple of years and volume Five just came out number one on Amazon in in new releases and occultism and um
I wrote an article for it and it’s called Uh on the work of the 56 he knows this in the Golden Dawn Tradition now anybody that’s interested in this stuff bew there are spoilers but that’s that that volume that that journal is a very good cross-section of the greater Golden
Dawn Community because it it it it takes articles and perspectives from initiates and adepts all across the world not even just the country so um in the states so I would recommend those volumes if you want to get like a really good look at the different Temple ethos and things
Like that and the way that they approach certain materials I would I’d check those out thank you I think uh the author of the question received quite uh quite quite an nice answer and calb if you want to go into more details please share and uh I’ll get it to brother Ike
So uh brother Walter Benes asked do you know if meths was involved in the ts’s Egyptian ride I don’t um you know uh a lot of the the theosophical society stuff that he was doing was was well first of all it was he really splintered with it to a
Degree when they were when they were doing stuff with uh Anna Kingsford in the Hermetic society and that had this strange blend of of hermetic like Egyptian hermetism or hermeticism and uh and esoteric Christianity which is cool because that’s kind of the trajectory of the the Golden Dawn right leads you in
The outer order it leads you through the pre-christian rights rituals religions and then it culminates in the in the Christian sort of expression of all those ideas not to negate them but to exemplify them in in what was at the time right this this penultimate sort of spiritual uh
Expression so um that’s kind of where his Focus was as far as I’m aware um I I don’t know if he was working an Egyptian right with the TS as far as I’m as far as I’m aware the theosophical society did not really formally perform any
Ritual um but uh they did have lodges things like this uh however ma the matters is when they moved to Paris they opened up an Egyptian sort of Lodge and um and they they they performed public public rights of Isis that’s actually one of the pictures that I put in there
Of of of MOA and Sam side by side that’s from their public right of Isis in Paris so I do know that you know um even even in the the inner order right we’re talking about Rosy christianism we’re talking about the christic formula for becoming the you know the the sacrificial
Son but it’s it’s highly you use an oseran formula as well you know Osiris is right there you know that’s essentially when when the hierophant is sitting in a Golden Dawn Temple he’s embodying Osiris um so so I I don’t know the specifics on the the historicity of
That but it it would make sense if it did exist thank you let’s take uh some uh speak participants Lucy Flor is yours hello everyone thank you brother for that superb talk um I’d like to um add I mean you were very explicit at the beginning that you
Could only give us you know a relative snapshot of things that were going on and I found that your um analysis of the Continental Continental um adep absolutely fascinating and it’s been something that certainly in my research here in England on the Golden Dawn um there’s almost like a hole in it you
Know who were they how did he know them so thank you for expanding on that but I just kind of wanted to um add some of the curious things that were going on in England at the same time and therefore why Rosicrucianism as a philosophy let alone
A practice had sort of Taken root over here um from the beginning uh and the original F frat artist there is in fact only one anecdote in the original text and that that his uh brother Jo or IO who comes to England and he cures the
Ear of Norfolk of leprosy so it situates rosac chanism in England from the very outset and I think that’s really important and you know through the centuries um there was still always these sort of individual uh great men who would practice so-called liberal arts and
Alchemy and so on but then I think for me um there’s a shift um a Scottish Freemason called Anthony O’Neal hay goes to Glasgow with his pal William James Hune um and they are apparently initiated into a Brer organization there now what is very curious is there are
There are hints that they came back with a warrant um and that this organization was not in fact associated with Freemasonry but Hune who was an important Freemason for his time wanted to add that now sadly Anthony O’Neal Haye subsequently died Robert Wentworth little came in and then obviously from
About I think it was off the top of my head 1865 we’ve got the birth of the SR but there’s I think a parallel thing going on and I want to touch on this um because your research into the sort of spous histories of the Golden Dawn who
Was UN sprangle why the Secret Chiefs and so on there’s quite a rich history here for esotericists inventing I mean the rosic crucian manifestos were said to have been a fiction and a bit of fun Andre tells us that as as you pointed out um and obviously a lot of people
Came along and took it very seriously because they could recognize from the work they were doing that there were these alchemical very serious alchemical components so obviously it was it was intended for a very specific audience um Andre later when he wrote his um Utopia christianopoulos had obviously rejected all of that and
Became a very devout Christian the point being um I want to bring in Edward bber Lon who in 1842 raped sonon um which is about of rosic Cru now he was actually following a line of Rosy crucian fictions that situated the Rosie crucian as this lone individual and that all
These Powers were problematic in some way in terms of the story of the text so if we track back um Zenon was published in 1842 St Irving was published by um Percy shell in 1810 and before that William Godwin published St Leon in 1799 now this is where I think it gets a
Bit interesting because Percy shell turns up thinking William Godwin was just you know the greatest writer and thinker and chat that ever lived does a bunk with his daughter Mary shell who then writes Frankenstein which for me is a rosicrucian allegory and I think there needs to be work done in
That area and I hope to do it one day the point being Edward bitton comes along knows and understands all this and his past has obviously been in writing these sort of pedo fictive histories and he writes zenoni if we fast forward a bit and we get to
1877 and the publication of Isis unveiled you see I’m such a square I went and got the quote the opening of um Isis unveiled part one science she says well she doesn’t Edward B Litton says we commenced research where Modern conjecture closes its faithless wings and with us those were the common
Elements of science which the sages of today disdain as wild Chim mirors or despair of as unfathomable Mysteries and she quotes directly from Zenon yet again reinforcing your idea that blavatsky’s work has been completely underestimated and and really needs a thorough going over with her extraordinary breadth of
Knowledge so in order to kind of pull this back in and to get to my point I’m sorry I needed to contextualize this for anybody else watching um when latsky created the TS and the so-called Secret Chiefs and then the GD came along and pinched trithemius his Cipher and then created Anna sprangle
And all this to my mind weren’t they just following a tradition and this tradition of parable allegory um fictive characters who were intended to represent the height of you know the the lofty Heights adepts could achieve was something that not only were they familiar with and comfortable with
But I think personally in the case of the Golden Dawn the sprangle um fiction like B Lon Shelly and Godwin before them was intended to lend the order some kind of authenticity and legitimacy and significantly for those people who were not Freemasons and especially the women um they needed something they could hang
On to and Anna springle obviously was an ideal so-called candidate um and equally at the time we see this little group of extraordinary women are cultists and its most broad blaty Anna Kingsford later obviously we have Annie bessent um and then being the first initiate of the GD Marina MS um would
You agree then that this conscious fiction um was something that they had considered as a root to establish the Golden Dawn based on the establishment of the TS the manipulation of The Secret Chiefs or is it possible that the Secret Chiefs are real um I I think um
So so there’s a couple of points right as you’re saying none of this stuff really lends itself to any kind of historical paper trail or histo historicity that kind I mean and that goes as far back as hermetism and and those writings being right attributed all of them to herri Magis you know
Because it’s not about the messenger it’s the message that’s really what that’s really what we’re talking about here even in Dion Fortune right Violet Mary first hands down my favorite of the uh of the Splinter Group you know um I te consider her a teacher from Beyond
The Grave she says all my theory is in my technical books but the the the practical application of it is in my fiction um and and and that’s the whole thing behind magic now we are constantly renovating uh every moment of our sphere of sensation and our sphere of influence
With our imagination the imaginal faculty and and absolutely you know the tarot itself is a great example of archetypal images that that we can attempt to embody uh you know in a lot of in a lot of Senses nothing here in the material is as pristine as it as as
As in let’s say a platonic ideal realm it’s constantly subject to to these imperfections but we have to keep striving for those IDE ideals and in order to keep striving for that ideal we have to keep the perfected image in front of us and I think we do that with
Fiction and that’s a huge part of the literary tradition um not just within occultism but with with just spiritual fiction in general um but I do think that right so westcot and matters right matters having translated noron Rosen R’s uh Christian cabalistic work and studied uh all that
Enough I mean from as early as being a young man with children Wescott quit his job went on Hiatus for two years to study the cabala that’s I mean I wish I could do that that’s amazing it’s beautiful but but the thing is they would have been well acquainted with
This idea of of levels of reading things right that’s a huge part of of even like Hebrew judaic cabalistic exog Jesus is there is the letter there is the you know spirit and there there is the soul of the law you know there’s actually four um different levels of
Interpretation and I think that in a lot of ways they structured their reality around that layering you know there’s what I can show you there’s the underlying thing that’s actually happening behind that that there is a spiritual impetus which is its inspiration which I am only following
I’m only taking the the breadcrumbs to this Trail I am a vehicle I’m a vessel that’s the whole point of the Golden Dawn is to become a vessel of the your spiritual archetype that’s the whole point there is no other point it’s not to sit there dressed up as a gypsy
Reading people tarot it’s about you have to embody your archetype um which transcend you your ideal how do you do that what is the spiritual path to that this is what they were trying to do and I think that the entirety of the Golden Dawn is just a manifest manifestation of
That so I think that you’re really on to something there I think that was a beautiful contribution to the discussion because it’s something that you know uh I did not think to to to bring up in this lecture and I’m really glad that you you kind of created a space for
For for for that thought to to happen I don’t know what do you think about that um I’m very touched um about your comments thank you um your final comments but as for your levels of reading and interpretation that hadn’t really occurred to me I think I’ve been looking at
It um along much more almost I don’t know surface lines well yes because in my head they read this they read the fa they knew this they knew the other um of course they would include fiction so thank you you’ve actually given me a much broader and deeper way of examining
It um and I think I think you’re use of uh Dion Fortune is actually brilliant because yeah I’d forgotten that actually she does mention about her fiction is where you know the real good stuff happens oh yeah um and equally I think it’s it’s such a fascinating mine of research to look
Into how we tell stories and I think that when people were sort of discovering historically and certainly within the GD and specifically within the SR uh because westcot wrote histories for the SR and within it he he makes out the sraa was in fact connected to the same continental adeps and the Golden
Dawn again for me is a is a means for him to legitimize it but of course the Supreme AAS at that point he could simply say what he liked um and now we know it is a fiction um a group of people in that room when he delivered
That lecture would have been Golden Dawn members and would have had to have made the decision as to whether or not when the truth came out if they believed them um I mean I could quite honestly I could go on and on about it simply because I
Think um the stories we tell ourselves the stories we tell each other in society Community more generally are are so important um but this idea that that they understood how to read the levels of reading I think I’m going to explore that a lot more thank you thank you so
Much for that comment um and the only other thing I think I would say is that within the SR if you and you probably preaching to the choir no doubt um with this idea of fiction um as the different histories have been written there have been some movements within the society
In the past this is not not so today um where they’ve been expected to believe that brother CRC was a real guy and then in other cases um Supreme May Guy have come along and said no actually he is the light that we’re supposed to emulate
Um say thank you you’ve given me a lot of food for thought and it was one wonderful lecture I’m I’m I’m chuffed bits that we got to discuss this thank you everyone for your patience as well thank you thank you any other questions or uh yes let’s uh well first of all
Thank you Lucy uh for wonderful intervention and uh let let’s go to has to London and then we have Lou lont brother is I don’t think is enough it can’t be man this was just just the tip of the iceberg I can imagine I can imagine look first let me
Say I’m member of the SR I am grade seven I belong to Metropolitan College which is the first college now it’s very interesting you started your presentation with a phrase real magic and that’s very oxom isn’t it because magic is an illusion it can’t be real and most of these things that
We are given to us as ideas are Illusions as how we move forward with those Illusions is the trick of understanding the philosophy and in ideas of um those who are trying to create new genres in things thinking I was just thinking you know when you mention all these dates sort of about
1885 to 1920 mid-20s and then it all vanished no one cared about it for the last 50 60 70 years it was just a subject amongst very specialist uh groups and discussions it’s come back again so you know is it having a new do you think it’s a new cycle because we
Are we’ve gone through you know let me put it there to me I think Co has been a a regenerator of ideas and thoughts because we suddenly opened up to listening and thinking about Concepts and ideas that were created many many moons ago when you talk of magic I me you
Know everything is red you hear this oh I cast a spell so they die or he died or she died of course they say it after the person is dead so anyone can say that it’s a very very wonderful way of saying I did that but she pointed it she pointed she
Singled out Louis pastor and it never came to pass but you know I’m experienced real dark S Forces and I’ve seen them in operation and what they are like and to read all these things make me wonder at times did they really know or did they just create these
Things out of everything that they read because that Victorian period was very much of the dawn of um intellectual thinking of sorts and after the um period of the 1700s and things started going then you had Industrial Revolution no one was interested in philosophy and you everyone’s IND
Industries and Science and all sorts of things so do you think that these were s of all cudel up from those who read who traveled because Victorian AG created travel you went to far far far off lands where you saw this mysterious um events take place mysterious uh happenings and
You readapted and reinterpreted them for the Western audience yeah I um well I I will say I I personally first of all nothing this stream never went away um it has been uh like other various I would say interfaces which we adapt in order to interpret our
Experience it has been in ascendancy and then it has experienced a period of recession so I’ve been involved in these circles for for for many years now and and it is a world within a world there are plenty of people who for as long as I’ve been doing this at least you know
Maybe like 15 years maybe longer you know that have this and they’re still you know um the the sort of I want to say anchor tenants of this stuff they’re still there they’ve been doing this for 40 years 50 years it’s a tremendous tradition it’s just not very much in
Vogue because of a a certain postmodern contamination uh of thinking um I do not psychologize mag magic it’s a part of it but it’s it’s it’s as anything else it’s it’s there there to me I I’m I’m aware that there is a side of life that I do not understand I cannot
Understand but that doesn’t mean that I can’t find uh patterns in my physical life and that have meaning and can in some way affect that other side of that Veil that that that I that I can’t see because there’s this constant like I said earlier there’s this Circuit of force
There’s this constant interaction between what we understand what we don’t what we understand is extremely small um you know we what we understand I mean even from even by science’s own admission is less than 5% of of of the um of the observable universe uh and I I
Think that magic is as a definition I if that I could profer I would say that really it is an operating system which is in a state of continual investigation of the relationship between between Consciousness physicality and whatever lies beyond that there is a physic and a metaphysic uh involved in Consciousness
Now what this implies is really a state of a not knowing you exist in some form of Perpetual state of not knowing and you’re okay with it there is no cognitive dissonance because they don’t these things don’t have to match up um all the time and then there is also this
State of well I’m going to continue to investigate to the best of my ability but then there is also that kind of that space of belief you have to choose to believe something it’s but even if even if you are a strict rationalist you have to believe that this method of
Investigation is the best there is there’s belief in everything um and these people who spent their lives in poverty and jeopardizing right Westcott almost lost his position as the Queen’s coroner because they found papers that he left in a petty cab um these people who did all of this stuff for no money
Who spent time away from their families their loved ones in order to do that they they believed in this stuff it’s not it not it cannot all be reduced to um what was read and and and and I think that’s a very postmodern way of of of
Reading this situation I think that um you know these people were not sort of raised in the same postmodern you know wash dry cycle that we have come into the world with uh and these strictures on um on on spiritual investigation uh perhaps Christian perhaps you know religious ones but the
Thing is that the spiritual the numinous was always just as much a part of their reality as the physical this is not necessarily the case anymore and so I think they were of yes they were definitely cating stuff that they were reading I think a lot of it was
Inherited you know by way of people like McKenzie hawkley Levy Etc it’s a blavatsky but I think that the main thing about the Golden Dawn the main thing that separates it from every other esoteric Masonic side group study group is they did it they did Practical Magic you know they believed in Clairvoyance
They believed in manifestation to visible appearance of certain spirits and things like this there’s a whole ritual uh in in reger’s book detailing what happened I think it was Florence far and they believed in The Secret Chiefs I I think that and I’m not saying to devolve allow ourselves to devolve
Into credulity but I think that you if you will never experience the the the fruits of the investigation which magic is part and parsal which truly the operative systems of magic are that method of Investigation you will never receive the fruits of that if you do not have some
Kind of belief that it is possible well I I must say um you have been wonderful to bring it up to date in a way yeah remember what we were talking about is those who were you know who were prominent in their own times and they were researching what they felt was uh
Groundbreaking ideas Concepts you know philosophy is so in a way you know we we are going with hindsight rather than foresight so it’s a wonderful way of criticizing without appreciating but oh yeah I think also you know it’s wonderful that you take time to do that
I appreciate all of you who do this s research to try to S join everything together join all the everything is dots on a page it’s how you join the dots and create an image and you know sometimes you create an image you never thought would come into existence because you created the
Dots in the wrong sequence but I think it’s great thank you I you you you’re you’re a true enlightener of uh modern times thank you for that taking time and and educating us and sharing your knowledge bless you yeah thank you you know I I always appreciate um
Particularly in I’ve done a couple of these sort of Zoom things here and for PRS and stuff and I just I really appreciate the um the level of Engagement in in this questionnaire you know question and answer section because the thing is like how can you can’t
Exist in this doing what I do doing what what anyone does in this you can’t exist in a vacuum you need people to you know continually help flesh out why it is you think what you think or believe what you believe you know and and sharpen each other
Well we enjoy the meal and you create the ingredients for us so bless you thank you thank you thank you both uh and let’s go to Lou Lamont hi hello firstly thank you for your time and effort uh I know that’s a little redundant but uh thank you also for
Opening the door to anybody looking to learn and uh dropping a crumb chill here for hopefully people to piece together as you mentioned it is a little Agatha chrisy kind of Style part of History um but uh I’ll cut to the chase uh apologies if this is like a basic
Surface level question uh or slightly off topic or even misguided uh so feel free to just say if this is not the place or time but um is there any noteworthy historical overlap between uh the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and uh Memphis misim lodges or practice
Or any overlap between the founders of the HGD and the individual Memphis and Miss R rights before their 1881 combination um so I I don’t find anything directly between kostro and and any of you know obviously any of the members of uh of the Golden Dawn the founding members of
The Golden Dawn or or or further but what I do find striking is his idea that his insistence that masonry had an Egyptian origin um and I think that that definitely okay so there there two things really happening you know there are these esoteric symbols that are in some way
Tied to hermeticism which is you know heniz Egyptian and that comes by way of the Hermetic art Alchemy its alchemical symbols which were grafted onto and transported through time by the rosie chisan fraternity um so the symbolism the the wallpapers there so to say so to speak you know it’s it’s it’s the
General environs come from this this distant Egyptian thing and then you have um really and I I’ve prepared a lecture for this that I’ve given for for uh for blue Lodge and Scottish right um and uh I call it Builders of the House of life and it’s
Essentially uh after after my my travels in you don’t understand these things don’t put any mean into them please I don’t suggest anything issues toat you please there we go um after traveling in Egypt and and you know working in Freemasonry and esoterism for for for a long time I
Definitely see um correlations that are very difficult to deny for instance uh there is the the the Builders of ancient Egypt right they they they rought in stone specifically you know Limestone quartz things like that um they were they were Masons and uh the things that they built were
Religious in nature you know um and in order to do that to create things like the pyramids and the things like luxur Temple and Carnac Temple they needed an almost magical knowledge of physics and Mathematics which would have mystified I mean it would have there would be no way
For for people to comprehend what they had to understand um in that age when you were either you know part of the the Royal Court or a farmer you know it’s like no middle class so um there’s no you know institutionalized education to disseminate ideas and Concepts as such
They possess this but more than that they possess the ability to organize and work together um which is which is a key feature of that they also were given their own temples or perank their own houses of life where they held their own rituals um and had their own initiation
Ceremonies so the those facts there um and the the the prominence of their God hea and their usage of hea their incorporation of hea meaning magic um into daily life everything they looked at it as the same okay we have the sun we have the sky we have the moon we have
Water we have Earth we have magic they didn’t look at it as as something woow woo or taboo or or non-logical it was a part and partial of the material world um an inextricable holistic worldview that everything is miraculous and of course it is you know um even even by
You know by by scientific standards we’re floating in the middle of the space you know receiving light and life from a gigantic Fireball I mean the fact that anything happens ever is miraculous so this is you know this is is their this is their take on life we very jaded
Right we uh we don’t have that view anymore because we have these other these other concerns you know we actually we have a million different impinging things to be concerned about but so there’s that factor of it there’s kagle Ostro comes around he starts telling people like you don’t understand M masonry is
Egyptian uh and a lot of controversy there um and then you have obviously the overarching egyptomania that took place in the larger cultural milu where um English uh you know and German and American archaeologist just overran Egypt um took so many of of their important Antiquities it’s many of them
Still in the the uh you know the British museum uh and at that time it was pretty crazy because if you had enough money you could hire an archaeologist to go find a mummy and then bring it back to you and then have a party to unrap it
Because that’s what they were doing in like you know these tow houses in in uh you know upper class England and in the states it was it was they have one the Vanderbilt the Vanderbilt that has one with literally like the letterhead that he bought from like the the dude yeah
Exactly so so there’s all this going on um which led to you know Wallace Bud’s aition and translations and things like that at the time and I think that um you know also Pike was writing Levy was writing uh all that stuff contributed to to it so I I I’m I I don’t
Really I don’t see how Memphis Mis and uh and the Golden Dawn kind of I don’t see them happening because what happened was from the theosophical society you had Anna kingsford’s uh hermetic Society but then the other branch was the Hermetic Brotherhood of luxer and that
That kind of went and did its own thing with with this Egyptian uh sort of right but it didn’t it didn’t really interact with the Hermetic Society now the Golden Dawn came more out of the Hermetic Society right if we’re looking at it as say like a a mental a linear mental
Picture it came more out of that strain but it it did heavily incorporate um Egyptian symbolism now that’s not to say that there is no evidence that the that the two kind of cross-pollinated I’m sure you go back far enough Edward bull bull Lon most likely Fred hawkley
Probably ran into these guys worked with these things um but uh I am not aware of it and there is to my knowledge no extant erudition that can conclusively say these two things really had interplay awesome thank you for your time very insightful thank you you uh we’ve got
Number of questions and uh like before moving forward the we still have time we’re okay with time yeah I’m good all right so uh one question I will uh take from YouTube uh where we still have 15 viewers um Ral to expand is asking what
Do obelisks uh mean to the order do they have any physical metaphysical function or are they purelyb obelisks well um we don’t utilize any obelisks within a ritual setting other than you know you you you can’t confuse the pillars the twin pillars of yakin and and Boaz or as they
They are in the Golden Dawn tradition uh Hermes and Solomon the pillars of Hermes and Solomon they’re not really obelis now the obelis it’s self um has been corresponded to uh the archetypal masculine and a lot of people find that this uh right so so in like
The work of Dion Fortune the work of Israel regy the work of Alistar Crowley the sort of second class of the Golden Dawn we find this this kind of this Behavior which becomes uh a hyper attribution of all things to the cabalistic tree of life and alist
Crowley uh talks about it in terms of like this esoteric filing cabinet and in each one of the sephirot you can you can attribute some thing or Essence or principle or you know uh person place and um so from that kind of investigation and that perspective lens
We see obelisks as representative of of a a uh archetypal um positive I say masculine but really we should not think gender because physical gender uh male or female is a special example in physicality of an overarching archetypal Essence and that is what the Obelisk is
Meant to to represent uh if we were to look at if we were to talk about it cabalistic we would talk about it as as as maybe an image of the sephir HMA um uh pure Force whereas Bina is form right um and and those archetypal energies of
Positive versus negative pole I would say is the the the energetic uh or the archetypal pole of positivity and force energy things like that um whereas the negative Force right it’s the same thing with the lingum and the Yoni uh in in the Vic traditions and things like that
The you have that requires a ground in order for it to material I into anything otherwise its energy just completely dissipates but I think that the the the Obelisk is a fitting symbol for that I think that many people would would include that uh in a golden you know
Maybe a a more modern Golden Dawn perspective of those things um now if you want me to give you any answers in terms of like are we using them ritualistically like you know I don’t know some kind of uh battery I I will say that um one of the things that I have
Developed uh over the course of my esoteric I guess Career Development toage whatever it is is um I I focus Believe It or Not primarily in in energy uh whatever you want to call that etheric energy you want to call it oric energy whatever what have youqi um you
Know I have a background in Chinese medicine and acupuncture but um when I visited Egypt I will tell you that uh particularly at carac Temple um I found personally it’s just anecdotally uh I found that the elist there were they had a particular quality
To them that was as if they had stored a tremendous amount of that energy still to this day um in terms of something like that in a ritual setting the altar in a Golden Dawn uh setting is that battery of power um so I guess that would that’s another
Thing that would be similar to an obelisk right the the the 10 by10 uh uh cubical altar of the universe so um that’s really it but nothing else to explicit in the Golden Dawn about any kind of utilization of an obelisk within a ritual setting all right thank you uh there’s another
Question from uh Walter Benish that kind of followed your uh uh your lecture uh so the question is if the secret Chief are the same as the master which hbb and ab communicated with um no so so HPB communicated with I believe uh Kumi and and uh one other one
Other Master uh and then there was joal Co that I think was Annie Bessant uh quote unquote ascended master um so there is a recording a a journal a diary uh of Sam matters communicating with this frauder lsis and according to current Golden Dawn understanding or belief whatever you want to call it Um this was how do I put this some people have interpreted it that the that that Chief is um is more of an Angelic nature so that’s more of the Paradigm that mats was working in rather than uh kind of an ascended Master tradition of theosophy he was working
More um in terms of with an and what what they believe to be an Angelic Force which makes sense because it’s all over you know the outer the Golden Dawn the the Angels and Archangels it’s everywhere all right thank you uh Reagan Overby is asking what are your thoughts
On the cisar golden Don self initiatory curriculum um the uh self-initiation that chicken Tabby wrote um uh there are some books I’ve seen uh when Golden Dawn it’s called like that called I I have it like right over here I um I just destroyed that thing when I
Was going through the outer order because it has a tremendous amount of ancillary adjunct information to go along with the the grades I think it is a great um way to get involved with and in touch with what we call the the Golden Dawn egregor which is more overarching when you use something
Symbols when you’ve when you use something’s words and formulas or or even really attune your mind to it to any significant degree you come in in touch with uh with that egregor what you do from there on out depends on whether or not you stay in touch with that
Egregor very important you cannot separate um your lifestyle from from this kind of work but with that said I think that that’s a really good starting tool I also happen to think that as a method of of ritual practice it’s almost impossible uh to undertake you know I I cannot see in
Typically in a Golden Dawn ritual setting it requires five adapts to perform uh work that is not even done on the floor um so then to incorporate let’s say in the neoy degree where there has to be seven officers and all these if you if you if you’ve read the the
Self-initiation book if you’ve even crack the cover you see like the usage of all these God forms and stuff that takes five people to do uh sufficiently in in a Golden Dawn ritual setting I’m not saying it can’t be done but I’m saying that if you can get in touch with
An order near you I would do that um and if you can’t I would say that it’s a great resource but it will take time you’ll have to be very very patient um and I would say that the internet is is a a double-edged sword you’re G to get a lot of information
That is not necessarily in line with GD or at least the H OGD kind of way of doing things or teaching if you want to call it that or ex you know interpretation and that’s fine but there are definitely some people who are involved that that are out there that
Are accessible and vocal and you know I recommend that if you’re trying to learn GD stuff you can get a lot of it from them and and through through their books but um I’m I for me the jury is still out on whether or not you can truly
Self-initiate to the same degree that that you know you would be initiated in a proper Temple thank you um there are many thanks uh for your thoughtful answer from YouTube so compliments to you uh another question comes from James mares uh I was impressed by your illustration of the
Holy Royal Arch K on top part do you think bottom part the bottom part also has significance um this is this is kind of um an interesting thing we can go really in depth here I think one of the most interesting illustrations of the Holy Royal Arch as it pertains to uh esoteric
Exegesis well one you’re going to find it in Robert huitt Brown’s uh Stellar Theology and Masonic astronomy that it’s a short work um I think anyone who’s interested in anything we’ve spoken about today needs to read that book so there is an astrologic iCal component um to that and to the overarching Master
Mason sort of mythology which is absolutely fascinating but also there is something called the um the uh the order Orum soless and so uh Mita Denning and Osborne Phillips those were two pen names of the ma Grandmaster of the of the order and and they were involved in this when I
Mentioned earlier in the presentation there’s Rosie Krush stream of esotericism in the west and there’s ogdo adic they are the ogdo the Golden Dawn is the rosie crucian Oram soless uh is the ogdo attic and so they have a very very interesting depiction of something in their ritual called the temos and um
It’s it signifies the twin pillars right completed uh or or join conjoined so you have yakin and Boaz or Jakin and Boaz and um they stand as the Gateway of occult knowledge and you in the center of them and that Holy Royal Arch essentially Bridges those two um and it is a
Representation uh not only of this kind of vesap peses area where uh the the lower meets the higher but is also a very fascinating uh depiction of ENT the sphere of sensation or the microcosm of the initiate so I would look further into uh that I would look look at at at
Some of the Orum soless stuff on that and then I would look at uh Robert huitt Brown’s work to to Really fles out some thoughts on it thank you uh another question comes from Leonas uh you’ve uh you made mention that the sepher of the Tree of
Life maps to the enter The Apprentice fellowcraft and the masteration degree can you be more speci specific in identifying what sepher correspond to the enter apprentice and the other degrees because if so then the system of seven chakras would have uh a relationship as it has to the Tree of
Life um well the thing the thing is this that is the system that I delineated is the golden Dawn’s approach so the Golden Dawn approaches sort of this outer you know it it the outer order can be viewed in correlation to the EA now that’s not to say that that
Cabalistic attribution is what is baked into masonry for me the the position of the the blue Lodge and the the you know the three pillars um uh you know wisdom strength and beauty that right there right those you have hulma wisdom you have uh uh gura you know strength or severity
And you have Beauty um right there situated in the South which is teerth I mean those are fairly those are almost all literal translations um delineated that way uh so there are many different ways to to view the different um Lodge configurations as cabalistic and I think
Think I forget who it was if I remember I’ll come back and comment on this video but I think there has been uh some really cool work done um by an ESO terorist on exactly that of more more recent times uh but um so the the Golden Dawn has the first uh four
Sephirot correspond to the outer order which can be viewed as a first degree they have have the portal right not in a sephira not in a sephira it’s on a path you’re in limbo you’re literally being pulled back along the middle path to be to pierce the veil um that lies between
The the the you know the lower ruach and I would call the ethical triangle of the the cabalistic tree of life you’re being fired into tith which is the point of balance um and uh I try not to incorporate a seven chakra system because I I I personally I do not
Find I personally do not I find more harm than good comes from trying to sort of fit that peg in this hole um I would say that there is a there is a technique in the Golden Dawn called the middle pillar exercise right which harmonizes a
Five sphere uh sort of you know exercise like that it conceptualizes it as five middle or medial spheres that is a good way to go but if you do want to find very interesting correlations between uh a sephirotic system and the chakra system and why you should choose one or
The other um I would look at Dion Fortune’s the circuit of force um that’s a book that was published by Gareth knight postumus uh meaning after violet or Dion Fortune’s death and it was a series of articles that she published for her the Society of interights private circulation magazine
Or or newsletter and she does detail some of that stuff and it’s extremely interesting thank you uh one more comes from CB from YouTube uh where does d come into play in the GD degrees is there an Exogen exes such as the Hebrew pares system or hermeneutics
Involved um and uh how do you think of that personally well um I would say so there is there’s a whole other system of diagrams that come way way later we’re getting like way above our pay grade here talking about this kind of stuff um but uh I’ll just
Throw a couple of things at you there are a couple of of other diagrams within the Golden Dawn that also correspond to the those bamian the yaka Bame Bas diagrams uh concerning the upper reaches of the tree um and doth is the abyss for a reason um it is
Essentially it’s the that part of the Holy Mountain where uh as the ruyuan saying goes you know those those who are lightly only they who are lightly armed May attain the summit and I think that that’s the part where physicality and and and lower selfhood it’s it’s just it cannot withstand that
The gravity of of of um the lower parts of the trees and it has to be completely divested in order to move on from doth right doth sounds like what death and um I would say that the the the the last three degrees of uh adeptus exempts uh you know mistler
Temple and and I think ipsissimus those are honorary titles and they’re typically reserved for those who are disembodied so I think that death doth is the gulf between here and the physical it’s the divestiture of the the material bound Consciousness um and and and those Fetters which prevent they are
Like blockades to our spiritual remembering um and you are you know some work in the Golden Dawn is is geared is as as I understand it right I’m not there yet I’m I’m I’m still in tith I’m zelot adeptus minor right now I’m towards the end of that curriculum but
Um as I understand it uh in the later grades maybe after five six um or 65 I should say 74 uh to my understanding it’s a large part of his preparing for death um and and and not in just this kind of you know grief counseling way so so there’s there’s
That uh and that’s basically my conception of of doth the abyss is that um that Gap that cannot be spanned um because it’s really in the Golden Dawn conception the heads of the Dragons if we’re looking at those diagrams after the fall they reach up into doth and no
Further because that’s where the the carob beam stand with the fiery sword and guard guard the upper parts of the the the creation the Garden of Eden um but it is the second atom that we call it in the Golden Dawn that must come and be crucified in the infernal Waters of do
Uh and order to enact reintegration and and um restoration so that’s actual I’m there I was quoting Golden Dawn verbiage that corresponds to those diagrams I showed you earlier thank you uh there are two more questions I think and uh we could bring the meeting to the end because it’s the
Fourth hour I’m fine but I don’t want to misuse your trust and you’ll be like like not coming anymore no no no we we never stop sometimes so yeah right all right uh two two more question one comes from the Skyler um being the being that the Golden Dawn order has
Largely founded by Masons and that there seems to be a massive cont complimentary overlap in terms of symbolic transmission what is current preent currently preventing the admission of golden D temples from being able to utilize and share ritual space with Masonic logist or what does it take or
Would it take uh for that to occure is that even a modern possibility um each each Lodge has its own sort of uh particularly as I understand it there’s a um a board that uh when when when they’re in ownership of the temple building there is a a trust that basically makes those
Decisions it’s highly political it’s highly dependent on who knows who what you know who who know whether or not they they they you know you it’ll help out with with rent and overhead so uh like anything else right in esoteric fraternities and societies we’re still
People I you got to really shy away from the people who who pretend to this embodied Perfection uh because we’re still people we’re still human beings that’s going to be true till the day we die so um politics politics are a big part of of why you
Can and why you can’t meet in certain temples so but also highly dependent on the localized region it’s not a I wouldn’t I don’t know that it’s a general rule right because masonry in the states is decentralized so each Grand Lodge can give permission for almost anything they want okay
Uh thank you and there’s a question from uh Steve Adams if you are from if you are part of ancient except this codish right this um I’m sorry could you repeat that question again if you are part of a Sr an they accept the scholarsh right
Oh uh I am not at the moment I um I have many friends I’ve read morals and Dogma I’ve even presented to them uh I understand uh you know there is a Golden Dawn connection there too and an Egyptian connection and and things like that very
Much so um I’m aware of that but as somebody who’s not uh one of the things I try to do is talk about this stuff with some level of insight rather than just kind of vomiting up information that you could probably find somewhere else so I didn’t
Really want to get too much into the Scottish right um and maybe show my ignorance right well let well actually Steve followed up with another actual actual question what if any what what if any influence of the scholar r or other pre-existing High degree systems of remas may have been seen within the
Development of the GD ritual um well it’s it’s all going to depend we have a different we have a different Scottish right here right with with with with Pikes influence and things like this um I would say that um it does borrow I mean but even still doesn’t matter who wrote or
Rewrote the rituals and who changed who says what and what H you know where somebody’s standing or how many knocks it’s it it all contains the same symbolism right there’s rqua there’s you know um primitive Egyptian stuff it’s all kind of packed in there so I’m sure
Because they were all members of of the appendant bodies and things like that I’m sure uh there that a big you know those bodies played a part um I know more about Scottish right history from Pike onward um so I do know that actually Pike wrote to Ms and asked him
If he wanted to be a part of uh some Masonic thing that he had going here in the South and the answer was basically thank you no so um but but that’s that’s about I mean yeah so let me go back to what sky said I made a petition to my local Masonic
Lodge to allow the Golden Dawn to meet there um and this has been an ongoing thing and it’s just we we keep getting shot down because of you know um certain uh misunderstandings of the Golden Dawn and what I tell them is this we are not like we are specifically
Concerned with the esoteric symbolism and meaning of basically all the Masonic symbols right blue Lodge the appendant bodies it’s it’s all there so um I’m sure that these Masons Min every crevice of of the masonry that was available to them uh in order to to call the Golden Dawn system but more
Importantly what the Golden Dawn system shows is that it’s or at least attempts to reveal is that it’s despite where you find it or what it looks like what symbol for this what symbol for that it’s part of a broad it’s part of a greater tradition it’s
Part of one stream it’s one thing that’s a good way to say the presting it’s it’s just one stream um I think uh We’ve covered all the questions great well I had some questions but uh I will just ask one institutional question which interests me some kind of it’s like a observation
And what you think about it free myy to some extent uh leave alone all the rituals and stuff like that uh or the is there spirituality or is not and that just purely secular Gathering of gentlemen or whatever interpretation you may give it but on one hand taking into
Consideration the the environment back in what 17th century not to go beyond uh the we have records let’s say from 16 plus and um we know that these kind of gatherings were there operative kind of spiritual was there whatsoever but the environment was that any different uh opinion made
Publicly are different from the authorities different from the Catholic Church especially would lead you to to death right or would the lead to very unpleasant consequences let’s put it that way uh so in order to explore something different in order to do something you needed likeminded people right right so this
Likeminded uh you you had to find somewhere where you could go and talk freely about anything right anything at all craziness or wisy wise things or whatever you want but beyond this dogmatic framework that existed there or beyond the legislative framework that uh you here in this
Environment of people you you were able to go beyond those uh kind of set rules and not get punished for that and not get any consequences so to a certain extent uh there is another dimension as well not only meeting the people and finding these kind of people but you
Also need a place to do things like ritual to kind of sit down dress or if there are anything involved with dressing so you need some sort of a private uh place as well so all this is combined into the lodge and there are other fraternities and
Societies as well but this is this is what we are discussing right now and from this perspective so to my understanding Freemasonry masonry created the the place and the society or the people around you who could uh uh at least listen to you or reflect on what
You were saying nobody would kill you for that at least and that environment that set up was important to develop further uh explore forther the universe and the anything you would want to do so having uh so many different uh spring gos or offsprings from masonry to some
Extent lets me kind of leads me to thought that it’s not that everyone shared everything it’s like the group that shared this kind of thought would uh kind of develop further into something else well using some of the structures constructs that were quite uh quite available to at the moment to them
So this uh Legacy and connections are there but definitely um definitely some individuals would lead or go further or push uh further the limits of understanding so do you think this is this is like a would you look at the freem as as a vehicle that kind of lead
Kind of helps you um move forward some ideas kind of uh test the ground test the concepts uh with like-minded guys not everyone but some group of them because this is a pool of people curious people who want to learn more and it’s like where you going to test your crazy
Idea why not with these guys who are already there I it’s like a selected guys uh who would accept uh or not accept but at least listen to you do you think the Freeman could have played this kind of role as well because in the development of uh political Concepts in
The development of social civil rights and the fighting and everything you see everything these kind of patterns that these uh these people not everyone but some group of it all would would uh would follow up further with some Concepts do you think this could be the
Role that uh we could interpret freas as a vehicle is a kind of uh instrument tool for that for ideas just general question but just uh trying to test my my understanding of some things yeah I mean it’s it’s Society it’s a society within a society no matter where it is
Um it has its own rules and it it it it’s based to me on a lot on this humanist um Paradigm uh of free thought and free free exchange and you know sort of this not allowing allegiances or politics to get in the way and yes
Absolutely to to hear to have every it’s very Democratic to have everybody be able to speak for e equal length on on things that they that they you know want to talk about present it to a lodge and uh it can be very bureaucratic in that
Way but I mean if you look at it it’s traditionally not only is it is it a seed ground for movements that change the world spirit spiritually but I mean they start revolutions right in the good old USFA it could be very dangerous to have a society within a society so yeah
I think that it it it functions or can function in many different ways I think just now more recently we are seeing it function once again right because it its symbols are are very specific are there it’s symbols the symbols of masonry do pertain to a certain direction they they
Do you know um reflect sort of uh a a I want to say um very broadly generically some sort of spiritual kind of connotation whether that’s sacred geometry or whether that’s you know uh movements such as hermeticism or or Rosy christianism they do inherently possess that character which Jamie Jamie lamb
Calls the the you know the numinosity the numinous aspect of of masonry is there because of things like hermit hermeticism and and Rosie chrisan there’s a sacred thing happening there um not just in ritual but in its symbols so I think now we’re seeing more of a utilization of that we’re leaning
More at least in my experience the circles that I’m in and and the people that I go and lecture to it’s it’s very very it’s circling back to be more of hey let’s talk about esoteric ideas let’s talk about spirituality and and advancement but also there’s this push towards traditionalism which I forget
Who said it and I’m going to butcher I’m going to butcher this but I’ll paraphrase it it says when a society has fully lost its mind it reels back and reaches for the last sane moment it knew and I think that um that in masonry we’re finding a lot of the Brethren
Reaching back to this traditionalist ethos which frankly is is not there anymore it’s dead right it’s not you can’t you cannot go back you cannot go into the past but I think that that the the reintroduction of that kind of seriousness that somberness that sacredness to a masonic ritual is part
And parcel of creating an environment for esoteric discussion wonderful wish thank you thank you thank you final question and I’ll take no more questions we’ll close the session uh calib is asking on YouTube uh would it be accurate to say whereas fre went from operative to speculative practice historically GD
Goes from speculative to operative practice are both operative and speculative evolve simultaneously in both practices I think that’s a really good way to put it that’s an excellent way to put it actually we went from operative to speculative to operative that’s exactly it so um I as as far as the
History I don’t know uh nobody knows uh there’s a lot of talk on op operative and speculative if I had to you know weigh in on it I do believe that operative at one point contained the speculative we we don’t have the perspective the the Baseline perspective
To understand what it would have been like to be a human being a thousand years ago some things we have in common other things we cannot understand we have been severed at the root of that basic human experience um and I think that we have so much information shoved
Into us it’s such an early age that it’s impossible for us to really have an idea or or to really have to to come to the Revelation to experience what it’s truly like to learn a physical law like by witnessing it happen you know to to learn physics to learn that
If I build a building in this way if I if I want the roof to stand if I want to get a stone to do this I’ve got you know uh to work against these forces now we understand them to be gravity and things like this
And you know the fact that these things exist that I can create something that is modeled after the beauty the Symmetry the pattern the abstract rule of mathematics that is the universe uh that’s miraculous it’s miraculous it’s it’s not like as you learning a trade
You know you you you learn so many other things as a builder you have to learn so many other things about Direction you know about um you know even like uh gravity you have to learn about what time of day you need to you should be working in right there’s that whole
Thing like buildings are started in the northeast corner I think we went over this last time so that um you had more time to get the work done and avoid you know the heat of the day and and and the uh you the closing of of um of sunset so
There’s there’s all this stuff that I mean back then would have seemed miraculous magical powerful so I think that as early Builders were’re learning how and look at them right what have we got now you know we’ve got these box buildings we’ve got targets and Home Depot everywhere but they built the
Pyramids they built the ancient Cathedrals I mean that in and of itself that ex that is one of the highest expressions of beauty because not only is the design and the physics and the skill there but I mean the labor the labor that the downright pain and
Sacrifice that so many people had to undergo in order to construct this thing meant it had to matter and it had to be beautiful and it had to be based on these these Transcendent principles and so I think that operative was speculative and I think that a lot of
The the noblemen right the men of leisure uh in later days who did never worked the day in their life became very interested in this this common folk who had this magical sort of uh knowledge and and and again we see it today you get the elite having some sort of uh
Blue collar tourism and then that you know that that that kind of over time time being permeated by uh the the educational system of the Seven Liberal Arts getting incorporated into it there’s so many factors there’s so many different parts of of society that that really come into play and meet in a
Masonic hall but those are those are just some preliminary thoughts that are completely unsubstantiated uh by by anything but I it’s more of of of kind of this intuitive picture I get the more I learn about masonry thank you Victor deserved his his H floor so Victor go ahead it’s
Fourth hour and then we’ll just finalize thank you everyone no more questions and comments please it won’t be read or yeah go ahead please Victor I’m sorry I just wanted to maybe add in can you speak louder please uh to the microphone because it’s hard to hear you okay uh what about
Now um I do want to add on the um going fromer oper M um that in the first degree um it shows that we start from Opp we go to specul that’s rather sophisticated if you will art form will with regard to respect to the craft and then with that said we didn’t
Go to appli Mason and that is exactly what was being described um in the modular way ofst returning perhap philosophical time travel back to OPP I think to transpose it is important because if we word it as going from meas perspective we can understand it but
We’re still going to be up with the mystery and the uh and the mission um additional mission to the the original which is trying to hand what the Mysteries are without disclosing any of the ritual work but to the the idea of this being itself a SE don’t want that kind of
Impression so across the globe withon we’re trying to to find a pan or a balance in philosophy or whatever term is necessary to um to explain what we are that that of we can explain to those who aren’t and are in society and are curious where got the wrong
Idea Victor is this a question charity no no no no I just wanted to comment because applied masonry wasn’t and but it is the same thing that was I just wanted to um take it back on because we’re talking about the children’s hospitals the charity all the
Good things that looking over thing well those guys and that’s what appli Mason about about us explaining from the POS side the POS that out there and that’s just like going back to operative masonry thank you uh for the next time uh you’re you need to improve your I
Mean something’s wrong with your microphone um it’s we we heard it in very distance thank you for your thoughts unless uh I you want to follow up with any comment uh I will start closing the session sure you can go ahead and do that thank you thank you
Every thank you uh maybe final words at the end of it if you want to do any additional plugs for uh for any events we know that your book is coming uh in January and uh we’ll reach you to uh to invite you with with a presentation of your book
