Before the Thanksgiving holiday, the UGA Student Food Pantry held their first ever mobile food pantry event. The mobile food pantry was held at the Tate Student Center where students were able to drive or walk up to the mobile pantry and receive up to 12 items from the stock.
The UGA Student Pantry has been in operation since 2011 and has seen significant growth in the past year. In 2023 alone, the pantry has tripled the number of students it serves and has seen a growing need to fight food insecurity on UGA’s campus.
When analyzing options on how to best serve students, the UGA Student Food Pantry decided to partner with the Northeast Georgia Food Bank to create the first mobile food pantry. The event was designed to serve a large number of students with an ample amount of food before the Thanksgiving Break.
Overall, 247 students were served and 50+ volunteers from the Panhellenic community assisted with food donations. The UGA Student Food Pantry looks forward to continuing its efforts to support the UGA community and fighting against food insecurity.
