Person Okay well today we’re going to be in um Acts chapter 17 I was cruising uh about a thousand articles this week literally I mean there was so and videos and all of this stuff I mean it’s it’s U and I apologize people ask me to
Post links and it’s sort of like I I don’t have time to cut and paste all the links of everything that I review because that’s all that I would do uh but when I as I was prepping I ran across a little video or article by Alis
Bag some of you the some of you know him up at uh Parkside Church in um shagrin Falls soul in Ohio and he was talking about how he goes about sermon prep and he has seven steps that he follows and the first thing he does is he empties
His mind of any preconceived no preconceived notions about the text that he’s about to teach from and then he goes then he does this and this and to be honest with you I got like two I put stuff on my computer and I make sure I’m
Here on time and I bring my computer with me so I guess that’s three steps uh that I do so I’m not so you can you can get the Dr beg online um we love him he’s Scottish he loves Golf and that’s that’s two things going
For him but so today we’re going to talk about acts chap we’ve been in the Acts of the Apostles and we’re going to be in Acts um chapter 17 the sermon on Mars Hill uh I’ve struggled with what to call this because there’s a lot of things
That I really would like to do with this this is one of my favorite passages of scripture I think it’s one of the most abused misused misinterpreted uh passages in the modern church it’s been sort of a a beacon call for people in the Seeker sensitive
Movement by the way which I uh you may have noticed I kind of reject that um I think the secer sensitive movement is really oh well never mind I won’t say what I’m thinking about that because it wouldn’t be secret sensitive to say what I’m thinking about that but
Um it’s really been Abus um we’ve so what we see here in act 17 though is Way by way of introduction is it’s kind of a different way that things are being approached Paul has been on this missionary journey he’s traveling around he’s in Europe now uh modern-day turkey Asia Minor uh he’s
And he he’s encountering different things as they go along and at the beginning they just really focused Peter and Stephen and Paul a lot of the focus was on just preaching the gospel um I saw by the way if you want to see a a I think a pretty good video I
Don’t know if I even agree with all of this Theology and everything but he seems to be a pretty smart guy there was a video in act 17 uh but you’re going to have to go find the link I’m not going to direct you there that way I always
Have plausible deniability that I gave you the ability to watch it it’s actually a a talk given at a conference by Dr John Lenn uh pretty smart guy on Acts chapter 17 and he notes in his talk that this was really in Acts 17 you know we we
Have this thing leading up we have Lydia getting saved and and listra then we have the the demon-possessed girl is making a lot of money channeling these demons and people are using them but even she sort of turns and says yeah these these guys are the Servants of
God and now we get up to acts 17 the middle part where Paul goes to Athens one of the great intellectual commercial and Pagan capitals of the ancient world and what he does here is a little bit different he gives like this apologetic for the for why you should
Believe now it’s not deep so I my first title was that the times of ignorance are over uh that’s what you can pull out of this passage God says this he tolerated your ignorance for a while Paul says but now that it’s over you got to really
Deal with the issue right in front of you about Jesus Christ um so I thought maybe and then I thought about it a lot and I thought well maybe I can update this uh Paul went to Mars Hill which was an intellectual meeting place so what would happen if Paul went to
Davos and so I’m going to play you some things about things that are going on in the world right now things that happened this week so let’s just um look at this so Paul’s on his missionary journey and he’s going through the uh ancient world
He’s been as I said he’s been to traz to Philippi to thessalonica to Berea and now he’s gone down on the way to um Athens and we’ll get him there in just a minute there we go and there he is and you know this is this great all the stuff in the ancient
World the temple he’s he’s going to go to Ephesus soon and he’s going to encounter people there one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World the Great temple of emis and this giant theater there that’s prob seats 25,000 people uh it’s amazing what these what we consider to be ignorant ancient
People were able to do uh for as far as we know they didn’t have motorized Earth moving equipment or drills or anything like that I mean I remember going to Petra back in 1995 and one of the things in Petra that they have is they have a a theater there that
Seats about 7,500 or so people but at the top of the theater there are I I believe the first Sky boxes you know where there there are actually Sky boxes up there where people rich people would pay extra money it sort of seems like things haven’t
Changed all that much have they in in the interim uh so here’s here’s just some little Graphics about Athens this is a famous painting and Paul’s going to be on Mars Hill this of course is the Acropolis during the time of Paul uh Mars Hill is just over here to the right
You see that little Temple there in the middle to the right Mars Hill is just to the right of that here’s a video that somebody did uh reconstructing Athens at the time so again this is the Acropolis this is probably a little bit before the time of
Paul and it’s going to you’ll see Mars Hill come into play right here on the right there’s that Temple that I told you there’s Mars Hill and if you go to today you’re going to see pretty much this is what you’re going to see and you’re going to see Mars Hill and at
Mars Hill there is this um there’s a staircase that goes up Mars Hill and this is a picture of Paul at Mars Hill and this is what it looks like today so the the thing that was there when Paul was there you can go and see
And walk on today and then from the top of Mars Hill you can look over and see the Acropolis so when we get to this passage I’ll just start with verse 15 I’m going to read through the passage then we’re going to talk through some of
The issues and then some of the things that just seem to LEAP out at me uh but I didn’t empty my head before like Alis bag uh sorry uh didn’t have time to to cleanse that all that out so those who conducted Paul verse 15 of Acts 17
Brought him to Athens and receiving a command for Silas and Timothy to come with them with all speed they departed now Paul waited for them at Athens his Spirit was provoked within him when he saw that the city was given over to Idols therefore he reasoned in the
Synagogue with the Jews and with the Gentile worshippers and in the marketplace daily with those who happened to be there then certain epicurian and stoic philosophers encountered him and some said to him what does this babbler want to say others said he seems to be a proclaimer of foreign Gods because he
Preached to them Jesus and the resurrection and they took him and brought him to the aegus saying may we know what this new doctrine is of which you speak for you are bringing some strange things to our ears therefore we want to know what these things mean for
All the Athenians and the foreigners who were there spent their time in nothing else but either to tell or to hear some new thing then Paul stood in the midst it’s interesting it just occurs to me they would have used Twitter and Facebook and all that stuff even though they were
These great philosophers and everything because they wanted something new all the time then Paul stood in the midst of the arope pegus and said men of Athens I perceive that you are in all things are very religious for I was passing through and considering the objects of your
Worship I even found an altar with this inscription to the unknown God therefore the one whom you worship without knowing him I Proclaim to you God who has made made the world and everything in it since he is Lord of Heaven and Earth does not dwell in
Temples made with hands nor is he worshiped with men’s hands as though he needed anything since he gives to all life life and breath and all things and he has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on the fa all on all the
Face of the Earth and has to DET determined the pre-appointment times in the boundaries of their dwellings so that they should seek the Lord in the hope that they might grope for him and find him though he is not far from each one of us for in him we live and move
And have our being as also some of your own poets have said said for we are also his offspring therefore since we are The Offspring of God we ought not to think that the divine nature is like gold or silver or stone something shaped by art or man’s devising truly these times of
Ignorance God overlooked but now commands all men everywhere to repent because he has appointed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he has ordained he has given Assurance of of this to All by raising him from the
Dead and um I need to pull up something here my last few verses of the chapter disappeared um so I’m going to re I just have my ESV app so I’m going to pull this up um so don’t bother sending me emails about it I I compare all the passages and
Everything fix a day in which he will judge in righteousness by man is appointed and of this he has given Assurance all by raising him from the dead now when they heard of the resurrection of the Dead some mocked but others said we will hear you again about
This so Paul went out from their midst but some men joined him and believed among whom also were dionisius the aop pite and a woman named amarius and others with them so here we are in this great ancient city and understand that uh when we look at things in the
Church Athens had an incredible influence on some people the helenistic philosophy and reasoning and influence really um impacted Augustine and some of the early writers in the church and that really led the church down not such a good road in my opinion we we we figured that
Well meaning we the church people in the church fig well you know we don’t need that Jewish stuff anymore okay I mean there were Andy Stanley around before Andy Stanley we don’t need the Old Testament don’t need all that Jewish stuff we’re smart we’ll reason we can
Look at the scriptures and we have some of the we have the New Testament now by the time Augustine came around but it really sent the church down a path where the church really forgot about its Hebrew Jewish roots and the articles that that came along with this and the scriptures that
Came along with that that without which it’s really hard to understand who Jesus is and how he he works so now we’re going to uh look at this Paul was waiting them in a Athens and it’s interesting while he was at Athens one of the things he did every
Day was he reasoned with people he didn’t he he argued with them uh now him being Jewish uh that’s not hard to um it’s not hard to it’s not hard to believe that he did that uh if you’ve ever been to Jerusalem you’ll see people and they’re they really talk with their
Hands in Jerusalem because they’re arguing and the statement and I have Jewish friends who tell me yeah you get two Jews together you have at least three different opinions on things maybe more and that’s just the way they learn and understand and and then they’ll go
It’s it’s sort of like lawyers we we get together a lot of times we argue and then we go have lunch and then we come back and we argue some more now sometimes there really are some guys you really don’t like and that’s and that’s okay uh but we argue about things all
The time in the law it’s just the way it is and it’s helps us to learn about things so he reasoned with them daily now it says here that there were epicurian and stoic philosophers here’s what one commentator says about epicurian stoic philosophers the epicurian were Disciples of
Epicurius who lived from uh 342 BC to 271 BC who abandoned as hopeless the search by reason for Pure truth seeking instead true pleasure through experience boy it’s really good that our world today has given up on that the epicurian entirely denied a Providence and held the world to be the
Effect of mere chance asserting sensual pleasure to be of man’s Chief good and that the soul and body died together the stoics were Disciples of Zeno around 280 BC in chopus to 40 BC they employed a philosophy founded on human self-sufficiency inculcated Stern self repression the solidarity of the race
And the unity of deity the stoics held that matter was eternal that all things were governed by irresistible fate that virtue was its own sufficient reward and vice its own sufficient punishment as I was reading through some of the commentaries on this they also mention uh Paul’s letter to Titus and in
Titus he talked about men of creit being INR and there’s a famous sort of philosophical argument that goes because a guy from creit a philosopher once said that all cretans are liars and so then the question became well if he’s from CRE was he lying when he said that and
This is by the way this is the philosophy that we had with the emergent Church remember when we used to talk about the emergent Church what happened to that I think what happened to that that the thinking of the emergent church was has been subsumed into Evangelical
Christianity to the extent that we don’t really even talk about it that much anymore it’s just there and I see evidence of it all the time and remember one of the famous back and forth with the emergent church people was an emergent Church person these are postmodernists I remember I talked on
This at the National Conference in Long Beach Cal or Anaheim California in 2001 about the effect that postmodernism was going to have because truth was relative and emerging people postmoderns would say absolute truth does not exist oh is that an absolute truth that you just shared with me and they would
Walk away Ming muttering something when you brought that up but they believe that truth was relative and I remember I had a conversation with a pastor uh after that and he he told me John you you missed it because postmodernism this is going to be a really really good thing for the church
The church is going to really be able to use this um that Pastor has a very large Church much larger than this church but I stand by what I said 22 years ago it was not a good thing for the church things have really deteriorated
In the church so Paul was really when he was there he was encountering some of the philosophies and thinking that we face today there’s what who is it there’s nothing new Under the Sun as uh one of the writers of the Old Testament says everything is is the
Same and it’s interesting so when they took him to the europ pegus they appeared to be C Cur curious they weren’t against him they weren’t persecuting him or anything like that they were engaging him I think that that happens a lot today if you engage
People uh I think these I don’t like the notion that everything in Acts is prescriptive you have to do it this way but it’s certainly instructive as to how they did it and when you look at the context and the historical cultural context that they
Existed in at that time there’s a lot of wisdom to be gleaned from this so they were curious they wanted to hear what he had to say now it’s changed a bit in our day and age I mean imagine trying to pull this off on a modern University
Campus I mean we have people that conservative speakers religious speakers who are driven out of auditoriums by these uh these crowds these mad crowds and they don’t they don’t know they don’t want to hear anything they stop their ears we’ve seen this by the way over the past few weeks and I’ll
Talk some more about this second hour but with this Israel thing and what’s going on the the vitriol that comes from people that don’t like Jews I mean this is really what’s driving a lot of this they don’t like Jews and you cannot reason with these people you you just cannot
Give it a shot take one shot and then move on uh and pray that the Lord will somehow soften their heart that they’ll be able to accept any kind of Truth let alone the truth of the Gospel so again Paul says here for all the Athenians and the foreigners who
Were there spent their time in nothing else but either to tell or hear some new thing then Paul stood in the midst and said men of Athens I perceive that in all things you are most that you’re very religious now the past week there have been some very important
Cultural events that are taking place that at their core they’re religious uh one of these events and I and I’m bringing this up because I think that it relates very well to the passage that we’re in today so one of these is cop uh Congress of parties 28 it’s the 28th meeting that
They’ve had uh they had one about a year and a half ago about a year ago in charmal Sheik Egypt and now this one’s being held in the United Arab Emirates and it’s very interesting um this is I don’t think there’s any sound to this if there is a unique ecosystem
Of people plants and animals a fragile planet with an uncertain future that demands change a world that requires real commitment and pragmatic Solutions there is no Planet B it’s time for Action join us at cop 28 life and so here is this meeting that they have and it’s very interesting the
Symbol this is the official symbol they have a whole video about how they got to this symbol for this meeting and of course this is all the people coming together so we’re going to save the environment we’re going to save the planet but then they start talking about Mother
Earth and GAA and really what’s behind this is is a pagan Earth worship nothing has really changed it’s just more sophisticated and they have technology at this meeting they have a green energy Hub a green zone energy Hub or something like this and you you can
Get the you can download the app I downloaded the app and on the app it will take you on a tour of parts of this green energy Hub green zone this is is the first thing that you see when you get on the app to look at the green zone is
This and what their own literature and documentation say is that this is the tree of life and they talk about pledging allegiance to this tree of life so what as I go through these things I want you to see the themes about what the Bible has talked about since oh say Genesis
3 and how it’s recapitulating itself here in our time I think this is incredibly significant so one of the things that they did was they had for the first time a uh and now I’m going to forget the name of it a Faith Chapel and so here’s the guy talking
About the Faith Chapel let me turn the sound down on this since you don’t speak Arabic I’m pretty sure but he was talking about how he was he wanted to say something nice to his dear brother his dear brother was not able to attend cop 28 because he is sick he’s having trouble
Breathing his dear brother is Pope Francis and if you look at this guy you might recognize him from about four years ago when Pope Frances went to Abu Dhabi also in the United Arab Emirates and they had a big ceremony there where they were going to sign the document for the human fraternity
We are all Brothers we all worship the same God and they had a big signing ceremony and so this guy he is the chief Theologian um the interface statement for cop 28 he’s talking about the call of conscience and to establish the first ever Faith Pavilion at cop
28 what they had done in Abu Dhabi in 2019 was Francis and this guy got together I’ll show you some pictures of it here near the end they embraced they kissed they called each other brother and they signed a document for the human fraternity and he goes on and he says
You know look we’ve got all these problems with the world the world’s falling apart this is the leading Sunni Theologian on planet Earth he’s the head of Alazar University in Cairo e Egypt if you remember that’s the university the the theology school that a former president uh when he was officially the
President not when he’s unofficially but when he was officially the president his first foreign visit included a visit to Alazar University and a talk on June 4th 2009 that would be Barack Obama and you should go back and listen to that every so often because I think it will explain
A lot of where we are in the world today in terms of how our foreign policy runs if you can how our foreign policy is designed to mess things up uh in the world and so this guy is the leading Sunni Theologian on planet Earth and he’s talking about
This and of course he has to throw in his two cents worth about oh yeah you know um this Palestinian thing it’s awful what Israel is doing he doesn’t mention what Hamas did or anything like that but he’s talking about human fraternity human Brotherhood and so he doing this
Virtually he didn’t come the United Arab Emirates he didn’t come to Dubai one of the other Emirates or Emirates or whatever they call them I implore the world it’s time to Halt these atrocious criminal Wars I am convinced that if they persist in this manner God
Forbid we will be left with neither a viable environment nor a livable climate for our children for or future Generations so what do you what do you gather when you see this guy and and nobody said and so here he is with Pope Francis in 2019 in Abu
Dhabi where they’re getting ready to sign this uh human fraternity document yes and then here is Pope Francis and he’s saying and you can see if you listen to this you would see that he’s having trouble getting breath he’s definitely ill and that’s why he did not
Go so he’s sending a cardinal or he’s having a cardinal speak virtually in his place today the world needs alliances that are not against someone but for the benefit of everyone it is urgent that religions without falling into the Trap of syncretism set a good example by working
Together not for their own interest or those of a particular group but for the interest of our world among these the most important right now are peace and climate for the future and the future for all so what do you see when you see these guys talking at this big big meeting un
Sponsored cop 28 climate change they have an eschatology they have a theology it’s a religion that’s involved and here you see this thing for the facei summit and Francis is signing this document just like he signed the human fraternity document in Dubai uh I’m sorry in Abu Dhabi back in
2019 and you can see all these people here Chief rabbis and all these other people who have signed this and then of course here is is this guy I can’t remember his name signing the document as well and this is this was an important part of what’s going on there so we we
Have this thing about he signed it on behalf of the Muslim Council of Elders and here they are signing the human fraternity document in Abu Dhabi in 2019 and of course course that meeting led to the construction of the abrahamic family house in Abu Dhabi which opened this year which
Features a mosque a synagogue a mosque and a church so that the three religions can work together and so whatever Pope Francis said about not being avoiding syncretism that was just a big a big fat lie so that’s one of the things that happened this week the other thing and
That’s why I was kind of thinking about it so what would happen if Paul was around today and instead of going to Athens he went to Davos what what would he encounter and would the things that he said in Athens have application so I want to play you some
Things that people associated with the world economic forum and other things are talking about some of this relates to AI I’m going to talk more about it much longer about it in the second hour but I think it’s very important that we see what’s going on so we can understand
That what Paul said in Acts 17 on Mars Hill resonates with us today so here is a 2014 talk by Yuval Harari humans cooperate flexibly in large numbers because humans can create imagined realities together all other animals use their communication system in order to describe reality a chimpanzee can say look there is a lion run away or look there’s a banana let’s take it humans can use their language not only to
Describe reality but also to create new realities to create fiction a human can say look there’s a lion or look there’s a banana but human can also say look there’s a God above the clouds and if you don’t do what I tell you to do God
Will punish you and if you believe this fictional story then you will do what you are told to do and this is the secret behind large scale human cooperation so he runs down religion but he talks in religious terms here he is and I’ve played this
Clip quite a bit and so Silicon Valley in 2015 at Google headquarters it’s a pleasure to be here also not only to visit R Orel but Al also to be in Silicon Valley which for me is a kind of special place as a historian as a historian I focus mainly
On the history of ideas ideology mythology religion and I think that the most interesting place in the world today in religious terms is Silicon Valley not the middle least not Syria or Afghanistan or or Israel or Jerusalem but Silicon Valley this is where the new religions that will take over the world
Are being formulated um so when um when you sort of mash these things up together like I’m doing today without knowing the Lord this should scare you to death what these people are doing so he’s a Google when he says that here’s what he said later
In that talk most of these movies not all of them but most of them imagine it as a kind of war between humans and computers or humans and robots when the more far more likely scenario which we are already seeing now is not a war but a
Wedding we are talking about a merger of the two kind of algorithms the biochemical and the electronic not a struggle so and you understand sort of the eschatological terms in which he talks about a wedding we we talk about a wedding in our eschatology but you see how it’s been
Paganized and co-opted by these Elites and they’re talking about this Fusion here is CLA Schwab um the um at the C Chicago Council of Glo on global Affairs in 2019 and now the for reolution is not just a prolongation of calization it’s much more um It’s a combination of
Technologies it’s not just s digital technology just think of genetics think of brain research and so on and the power of the force IND Revolution comes from the combination of all those Technologies actually I was uh saying um it’s at the end what what the force Industrial Revolution will lead to
Is a fusion of our physical our digital and our biological identities so next year the UN is going to have a thing called the summit of the future don’t tell me that prophecy and eschatology is Irrelevant in our world today this is this is what the UN is
Doing next year September 22nd and 23rd 2024 the summit of the future and one of the things they talk about we already have the what in the form of many existing agreements and commitments starting with the UN Charter and including the universal Declaration of Human Rights the 2030 agenda the Paris
Agreement the Adis Ababa action agreement agenda say that five times really fast and others and so this everything revolves around the sustainable development goals but then this week there were a couple of very important meetings one that talked about AI so the first one is Elon Musk at the
New York Times dealbook Summit and there were a lot of very important people that spoke there Jamie Diamond spoke and he reiterated what he said was you know we’re on the verge I don’t know what’s going to happen I’m not a prophet but the world is falling apart essentially is what he said
Uh and he runs the biggest bank in the world so that’s probably something you ought to pay attention to uh but here is Elon Musk and he’s being asked questions about Ai and is AI stealing people’s intellectual property and people’s data and somewhere in this talk it maybe
In the clips I have second hour he says look your data your privacy if anybody tells you that AI is not using that they’re just big fat Liars and I have X formerly known as Twitter and that’s probably one of the big biggest best data mining place things
That you can find anywhere on the planet if not the best it makes Facebook look like small potatoes and remember there’s six big buildings out here just to store data and Facebook has many of these data farms around uh so here’s Elon Musk at the deal Summit New York Times dealbook
Summit can I ask you an interesting uh IP issue which I think is actually something uh I can say as somebody who’s in Creer business journalistic business and whatnot uh or care about copyright so one of the things about training on data has been this idea that you’re not
Going to train or or these things are not being trained on people’s copyrighted information historically that’s been the concept yeah that’s a huge lie say that again yes these AI these AI are all trained on copyrighted data obviously so you think it’s a lie when when open
AI says that this is not none of these guys say they’re training on copyrighted that’s a lie it’s a lie straight up it’s a straight up lie okay said obviously it’s been trained on Prop data okay so let me ask you a second question which is all of the people who have been
Uploading meard every minute all of the people who have been uploading articles the best quotes from different articles uh videos 2x all of that can be trained on and it’s interesting because people put all of that there um and those quotes have historically been considered fair use
Right people are putting those quotes up there and individually on a fair use basis you’d say okay that makes sense but now there are people who do threads and by the way there may be multiple people who’ve done you know an article that has a thousand words technically
All thousand words could have made it on to X somehow and effectively now you have this remarkable repository and I wonder what you how you think about that again and how you think the creative community and those who were the original Ip owners should think about
That I don’t know except to say that by the time these lawsuits are decided we’ll have digital God so ask digital God at that point um these lawsuits won’t be decided before on a time frame that is relevant um so we’re going to have digital God so
Put this in the context of what Paul said in Acts 17 where he says I’m walking around and I noticed that you have an altar to the unknown God so what would Paul say today I think Paul would modify and I’m not trying to say what I’m saying a scripture I’m not
Denigrating scripture I want that to be clear but Paul today would say oh you know so I was walking around listening to you guys talking and um you don’t have an unknown God you have a digital God that you’re creating you you actually think that you’re at the point
Where you can create your own God now he might say something like well at least you’re not going so far as to create like your own Babylon and this is a video from neom and they’re talking about how every this is at the uh commercial center of the Earth
Everything is ideal ideally uh situated in fact there’s a video here I’ll show you that are talking to some of the Architects about who are designing neon and I personally think this this could be this end times Babylon that’s being created in Saudi Arabia and listen to what these Architects have to say
What are they thinking if it succeeds it will be the new Babylon so to speak the new on so to speak I mean look at this thing you know 100 Mil long 1500 ft high on each side built to ultimately house I think 9 million people and it does have sort of
This Babylon quality to it I don’t think this architect understands end times Bible prophecy in the least and that’s why I look at it as they as they’re taking this and it’s going to be very digital it’s going to be like the ultimate 15minute city is I
Think it’s going to be an 8 minute City everything will be within an 8 minute walk of what you need assuming the you get the elevator right away I mean because you may be on the top of a 1500 foot wall that you have to go down I it’s it’s just very B
I mean 1500 ft that’s big be one of the buildings on the planet now we mentioned Google earlier here’s Eric Schmidt who used to be with Google um I have a couple Clips trying to remember which one I’ll play so he was talking about the fact
That the first clip he talks about well we we could have an AI doctor and an AI tutor for every kid in the world to teach every kid in the world well what do you think they’re going to be teaching every kid in the world folks
You need to be very careful with your kids with this with these lunatics who think they’re creating a new religion here is uh a little clip of what they had to say in uh axios ai+ Summit in Washington DC earlier this week the term in the industry is called
Guardrails and what you do is you put limitations on what the system can do and that’s for protection as well as cuz they make errors my my favorite example is um Dr Kissinger and I were writing an article and Dr Kissinger uh who who’s like a a proper you know academic among
Other things said he had all sorts of citations so he said to to the system write me this and then give me the citations that were his right and it turns that it wrote very well what he said and all of its citations it made up it made up all of his
Articles right it has no notion of fact and you try this yourself it’s very entertaining so all of these are being adjusted with various algorithms the technical tool that is used is called tools right the idea is that the large language model can call out for an answer another example is it doesn’t
Multiply very well it learned by multiplying by by predicting the next number in a sequence which is not a very accurate way of doing math trust me um but you can call out to a system that can answer your question and then you can put it back in so that’s how these
Systems become more alowed there is a complete agreement that there are well he goes on and says we need to regulate this this is very dangerous this is an existential threat and by the way Mike Allen who was interviewing SCH Eric Schmidt said well you know in five years Dr Kissinger will be
105 well that didn’t age very well did it Kissinger the next day died at the age of 100 um here’s a little bit a little clip though couple minutes and then I’ll wrap this up here’s juval Harari interviewed for the economist earlier so let’s take five years
2028 what does the world look like in the next 5 years the Frontier Model companies those of us at the very Cutting Edge who are training the very largest AI models are going to train models that are over a thousand times larger than what you currently see today
In GPT 4 instead of just generate new text in a one shot the model will be able to generate a sequence of actions over time and I think that that’s really the character of AI that we’ll see in the next 5 years artificial capable AIS
So you of all a man who doesn’t use a smartphone very much you listen to this does this fill you with horror or and do you agree with it I would take it very seriously uh I don’t know I’m I’m not coming from within the IND industry so I
Cannot comment on how How likely it is to happen but when I hear this as a historian for me what we just heard this is the end of human history not the end of History the end of human dominated history history will continue with somebody else in control because what we
Just heard is basically Mustafa telling us that um in 5 years there’ll be a technology that can make decisions independently and that can create new ideas in so by the way they were recently doing some testing with a AI system and there were and so they they
Talk about we have these protections we have firewalls we have onoff switches but what happened in this case and I don’t remember the article source I just remember reading and thinking uhoh they had the this better system behind a firewall password protected it it used those you know those those ridiculous
Capture things you have to do when you’re signing in someplace and it says please select all traffic lights please select all bridges well the computers have trouble with that that’s why they use those so in this case what did the computer do the computer wrote a job description for somebody to come and
Help it with the capture so they could get around this firewall it actually went out and hired the person so all this stuff every we’re going to regulate this and we get this giant thing so listen this is a God thing that they’re creating so this this
Isn’t an unknown God this is a known God and so what Paul says is exactly right he has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on the face of the Earth and has determined their pre-appointment and the boundaries of their dwellings so that they should seek the
Lord in the hope that they might grow for him and find him though he is not far from each one of us for in him we live and move and have our being as also some of your own poets have said for we are also his offspring therefore since
We are The Offspring of God we ought not to think of the divine nature is like gold or silver or stone something shaped by Art and man’s devis truly these times of ignorance so put this in the context of today these times of ignorance God overlook but now commands all men
Everywhere to repent so the smartest people in the world Paul said you’ve been ignorant and now we have the final full complete Revelation that you need because he has appointed A Day He commands all men everywhere to repent because because he has appointed a day on which he will judge the world
In righteousness by the man whom he has ordained by the way he doesn’t name him anywhere in this talk he has given us he has given Assurance of this to All by raising him from the dead so we could go we can read 2 Timothy 3 we can read Romans
1 we could even say Paul would say you know I see that you worship this God and and and today you you you deny the creation you tell people that they can be born a male or female and change their sex physically it’s nonsense it’s it’s it’s ignorance it’s not scientific it’s
Against everything that God has set out so um let’s see so they had a response to what Paul said some mocked him some said we’d like to hear a little bit more and others said some joined him and believed including dionisius the aerial pite you know that if you go to Athens
To Mars Hill today there’s a street that goes by Mars Hill and the street is named after dionisius the europ so here you see 2,000 years later a testimony in Athens at the place where it happened people can still remember if they looked behind why is that street named that way it’s because
Somebody heard the gospel message of Paul and believed and it changed their life enough that they got a street in Athens named after them so we ought to pay attention to what Paul said because it’s more relevant now I think than it has been in the entire history of the
Church as people are not worshiping an unknown God they’re worshiping a god of their own making but the principle is exactly the same it’s time to repent and believe in the one that God sent and raised from the dead let’s pray Lord thank you so much for your word pray that you will
Help us to take this message to heart give us uh opportunities to share the gospel in Jesus name amen
