What’s up everybody I just woke up and I wanted to talk about uh this article I read the other day uh it pertains to the Fallout TV show and I just wanted to give my thoughts on what was said in the article and my thoughts about the TV show itself from what I
Know so here’s the article it’s by Vanity Fair I’ll have it linked down in the description below in case you guys want to take a look at it for yourselves so this uh this article is titled uh ends with a smiling thumbs up the globally popular video game has become
An epic TV series from Westworld Creator Jonathan Nolan but uh yeah before we start I want I just want to say I’ve never seen Westworld um you know I don’t think that’s going to pertain to anything in the article but I just wanted to get that out there
Uh I’ve never seen Westworld so I don’t know really I’m I’m not really familiar with Jonathan Nolan as a uh director Creator whatever all right so let’s get into this here starts off by saying Fallout often looks like a distant past but reality it’s a far off future and
Actually it’s the end of Life as we know it that’s true we know from playing the games that the bombs dropped and everything kind of went to in the new series debuting on Amazon Prime’s video on April 12th a nuclear war breaks out across earth in the year 2077 which
Is or was an era of robots H cars and deep and abiding Nostalgia for the America 1940s everything from the cloth to the entertainment to the vehicles mimic that look of that bygone age albeit with a Sci-Fi tilt that retr future aesthetic was one of the charms
At the mega selling video game series that inspired the show I yeah I really like the aesthetic of the Fallout games I think it’s called Atomic punk I’m not too sure I’m not 100% on that but I think it’s called Atomic Punk it’s kind of got that sci-fi uh 1940s
1950s uh aesthetic I I think that’s what that called you correct me in the comments Below guys if uh if if if it’s actually called something else but I’m pretty sure it’s called Atomic Punk mass extinction is just a starting point for Fallout which was developed for TV by
Westworld creators and husband and wife J Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy so uh Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy uh his wife created the AP aped The Fallout uh series for Amazon as the TV show which okay uh like I said I heard westw world was really really good so so far it
Doesn’t seem like anything too bad after the incendiary mushroom clowns the story flashes forward 219 years okay so where oh let’s see where does that place it that places it a little bit after Fallout 4 if I remember correctly as as the the timeline goes I guess that would
Play set a little bit after Fallout 4 how did Humanity fair over those blighted two centuries Lucy one of the lead characters played by yellow jacket star Ella Pernell again I have no idea who they’re going to they’re going to name people off and I’m not going to
Have any idea who these people are because I don’t pay attention to that kind of stuff if I watch a TV show I’m like hey that’s a good TV show I don’t go and look like who’s the actor who’s the actress who’s the creator like this is something that’s not really
Interesting to me like if they make a good show then I’m going to be like hey that’s a good show she lived her entire life inside a Subterranean Vault where every need and want has been satisfied while generations and generations await the day when it is safe to surface okay
See it looks it looks good they’ve got the the Vault suit there’s the pit boy um it looks yeah everything looks fine um like I I’m I’m sure when they get into some of the chemistry and stuff uh a certain person that I know is going to be very upset if they
Get chemical uh formulas wrong uh like she was when they got the uh I believe in Starfield there was the uh it was a chemical formula for um caffeine I believe it was that was on one of the chalkboards it was like written in that specific way I’m
Not a I I you know I’ve not been very I’m not good at chemistry but uh but it was written incorrectly and she had a whole rage so I’m sure that’s going to uh if they get any of the science wrong I’m sure she’s going to nerd out about that
And be very upset but I mean it looks it looks good you know they’ve got the Vault suits look nice um the the the pit boy from what I’m seeing looks nice the interior of the Vault looks you know it looks like the interior of a vault so very
Aesthetically uh good like it looks like how I would imagine it would look if it was converted into a TV show which you know would follow what I would see in the video games when a crisis forces Lucy to venture above on a rescue mission she finds the planet above remains a
Hellscape crawling with giant insects voracious mutant animal Abominations and a human population of sunbaked miscreant who make the manners morals and hygiene of the gunslinging old west look like Downtown Abbey the games are about the culture of division and halves and have knots that unfortunately have only
Gotten more and more acute in this country and around the world over the last decades no one tells Vanity Fair for this exclusive First Look Lucy is nice but Lucy is naive in the Fallout Universe the human beings fortunate enough to write out the apocalypse and underground communities only had that
Option available to them because of money m forcing doy Lucy out into this sadistic darwinian rant of civilization opens the door for Fallout to engage in Social satire as well as action and adventure like HBO’s hit the last of us which was also adapted from a Blockbuster video game the end of the
World offers a rich opportunity to comment on the real one from what I just read right there this is going to be a social uh commentary piece which is fine that’s kind of what Fallout was I guess in a way also people being only accepted into the underground vaults because they had
Money that not necessarily true kind of I mean people were accepted into the vaults for a variety of reasons whether it’s because they wanted a group of scientists and these people had the knowledge and uh scientific mind uh to do whatever the Vault needed um I hope that
Uh they talk about the Vault experiments and I want because I want to know what 33 which is the Vault that takes place uh in the show I want to know what experiment Vault 33 was cuz as far as I know Vault 33 was specifically created
For the TV show they got the numbering correct because it’s on the west coast so it’s 33 which is fine you know that’s how it’s supposed to be it’s correct um so in that way they’ve kind of done good and in in in in uh can you tell I don’t
Have a script for this video these are just some of my thoughts I just I hope it doesn’t turn into a um because it’s nice you can have a TV show that comments on the world like society and stuff like that like our society and
And you know how how it is a lot of the times I hope they don’t fall too far into that to where they lose what makes fallout Fallout and it’s just ends up being uh a TV show that’s just commenting constantly on society and uh it’s like a social commentary
Like I I hope they they it’s fine if they do it if they if they write it in their you know you know and it fits we get to talk about that in a wonderful speculative fictional way says no one who directed the first three episodes I think that we’re looking at
The world and going God these things seem to be headed in a very very different direction um so for those of you who don’t know uh from what I understand uh The Fallout universe and our universe timeline wise was about the same up until the 50s I think it was and then it
Split so I believe fallout’s Universe never invented the microprocessor I believe that’s what had happened I could be completely wrong it’s been years since I’ve actually looked deeply into like the timeline lore of Fallout the last time I did was probably when Fallout 4
Came out just to you know I was into the mood of yeah let’s learn all about Fallout yay um but I believe fallout’s timeline in their timeline they never invented the microprocessor so their timeline stayed using like vacuum tubes and stuff like that and uh uh it’s split in a very different way
As Westworld demonstrated Nolan has a fascination with the mix of Mythology and psychology that make up human nature his characters typically believe one thing about themselves while behaving in a radically different way under pressure I don’t I guess I have never seen Westworld so I don’t know exactly
How he goes about doing that but that does not sound good uh he previously created the series persons of interests about a world in which crimes and terrorism can be predicted in advance and and co-wrote such films as the prestige The Dark Knight and Interstellar with film with his filmmaker brother Christopher
Nolan see I’ve I’ve not seen The Prestige I’ve not seen Interstellar and I’ve not seen Persons of Interest I’ve seen The Dark Knight but it’s been years Jonathan who goes by Jonah is fond of plunging his fictional test subjects into situations that unsettle their deeply held beliefs okay so that’s that
Sounds fine that’s that’s character development I mean if you do it too much but it sounds like he’s very fond of character development which which is good cuz Fallout is very big with character development there’s a lot of characters that go through character development in the Fallout series which
Is you know I mean what’s what we do in real life you know we’re not exactly the same from the time we were born to the time we die we develop as a person based on our experiences our uh things we learn and our beliefs so many of us have
Such naive ideas even now about everyone else’s experiences and it’s one of the things I love about America it’s this giant manic collection of different experiences different points of view Nolan says desperation only exacerbates those fissures and Fallout as perel’s doerder soon discovers Lucy is charming
And Plucky and strong and then you see she’s confronted with the reality of hey maybe the supposedly virtuous thing you grew up with are not necessarily that virtuous if they are virtuous they’re couched in a circle circumstantial virtuousness it’s a luxury virtue you have your point of view because you
Never ran out of food right you guys were able to share everything because you had enough to share the Fallout series tracks her collision with the hard reality of other people’s experiences and what happened to the people who frankly were left behind left to die Nolan
Said okay so yeah that sounds fine that sounds good I like that you know she’s in the vault everything is provided to her by the Vault again I want to see what kind of experiment The Vault was was what experiment The Vault had what thing was
Specific about CU if you guys you know if you’re fans of Fallout you know that every Vault has a specific reason for being a vault I think there’s maybe one or two control vaults that weren’t messed with I think one1 was one of those vaults if I remember correctly that was a control
Vault um but but every Vault has a specific function whether it be experimentation or you know whatever and I want to see what Vault 33’s reason for existing was that’s my main interest in the beginning of the show I want to see tidbits like they don’t have to just
Outright say it they can like kind of hint you know show background stuff that hints at what the reason for Vault 33’s existence is which it would be cool it’d be a nice little I guess secondary background story going on right here we got a image of the
Brotherhood of Steel um these power armor outfits look great they they look they look really good um they look very clunky they look very heavy they look very uh if I was in the Wasteland and I came across a group of people like this this um I would be very much intimidated
Like it looks good Fallout is levied by the same Twisted sense of humor that made the video game so appealing yes I love it I love it Fallout new Vegas’s wild Wasteland is probably the greatest thing ever the ubiquitous logo of Lucy’s people The Vault dwellers is a winking
Cartoon who perpetually flashes the smile and a thumbs up sign this Vault boy iconography originated in the games and was intended as an icon tonee contrast to the Hard Scrabble existence of those who endure than on the surface yeah and the thumbs up sign um if I
Remember correctly the thumbs up sign is uh when a when a nuclear bomb goes off uh and you sing the mushroom cloud you hold up your you hold up your thumb and you cover it and uh depending on how much your thumb covers the cloud as how far away you are
From the explosion I I if that’s correct and I think that’s uh I think that’s correct and that’s I’m pretty sure that’s why he’s doing a thumbs up uh which is hilarious Nolan enjoys determination to maintain that Morant comedy was the key to making this world
Work as a series says game maker Todd Howard oh here we go here we go Todd’s going to lie to us Todd’s going to give us a good old lie the director of 2008 Fallout 3 and 2015’s Fallout 4 not New Vegas because that was developed by obsidian and is a objectively superior
Game an executive producer at Bethesda game studios which developed the franchise I mean technically technically look I’m not going to be one of those guys who was like actually the game was crezy my black Studios um before and um besides just um no I’m not going to be that guy
I mean technically yeah they develop the games and and honestly as much as I like Fallout 1 and two I do like the firsters third person um in World experience you get more with bethesda’s version of The Fallout games it feels more personal um than the top down uh Fallout 1 and two
You notice I’m not talking about tactics because uh tactics uh despite it being an allright game is uh technically not canon so I guess we don’t count that we had a lot of conversations over the style of humor the level of violence the style of violence says Howard who’s also an
Executive producer of the show of course he is of course he is I mean of course of course look Fallout can be very dramatic and dark and post-apocalyptic well yeah that’s kind of the point but you need to weave even a little bit of a wink I think they
Threaded that needle really well on the TV show I mean we’ll see we’ll see look as much as like things we’ll get later on in this article um as as much as I am weary about the stuff in this TV show I am at least going to give it a chance I
I mean we we’ll watch it I mean not us you know not us I’m not going to stream it you know that’s it illegal as I mean who am I pokem man I’m going to get dmca so hard um we’ll give it a chance uh it comes
Out in April I believe we’ll give it a chance I I’ll watch the first episode and then I’ll come back and I’ll give you guys my thoughts on the first episode um I I hope it’s good but there are things that we’ll get into later on
In the article that do worry me um about it and there other things I’ve read that uh do worry me a little bit about the TV show Vault booy not only appears in the show but the imagery even gets an origin story which we won’t spoil here
Okay that was something that they came up with that’s just really smart Howard says I mean I it okay I mean Vault boy’s origin story I mean it’s not really it’s not really that important to me honestly like you could have just been like oh it’s just vaultex dude you know he’s
Just like image character I guess whatever like it doesn’t need to really have we don’t need a you know Batman Begins on vault boy like I don’t think that’s it’s it’s whatever like like I said if they write it well into the story then that’s fine oh and here
Here we go here we go here’s the start okay we’ll talk about that image down below if you guys have played Fallout 4 you’ll know exactly what’s going on there and it will it will explain we’ll explain fans of the game should know that everything in the series is
Officially part of Fallout 4 okay so remember this remember this everything in this TV show is Canon 100% And Bethesda was careful to make sure that the scripts would coexist with previous storylines from the Gaming’s titles hey this is a quick insert from editor Stewart um so in this
Particular part how they said they would make sure the scripts coexist with the previous story lines of the gaming title uh you did really well with that with 76 didn’t you you know the the the the Brotherhood who who shouldn’t have been in uh Appalachia area uh were in
The Appalachia area you did real well with that didn’t you uh anyways I it’s just another thing that worries me uh Bethesda has already proved in the past that they actually don’t care about coherent storylines and uh the Canon uh nature of their uh video game series so yeah
Uh all right back into the video guys I just had to insert that real quick again we’ll get into this we’ll get into this we view what’s happening in the show as Canon says Howard okay that’s what’s great when someone else looks at your work and then translates it in some
Fashion he admits to being envious of some of the TV shows interpretations and additions I sort of look at it as a h Why didn’t we do that okay so now that we’ve done that we’ve we’ve figured out we’ve been told by Todd Howard himself that everything in this TV show is Canon
Everything all right now let’s look at this image let’s let’s look at this image right here now if you guys know let’s read the low caption Brotherhood of Steel recruits gaze upon the Verte Birds hovering around the Airship called the Caan marveling at the rare piece of high
Functioning Hardware okay now if you guys played Fallout 4 this should look familiar to you this is a almost it looks like almost an exact copy of the pridwin now from what I remember in the story of Fallout 4 when you’re dealing with the Brotherhood of Steel the pridwin
Is the only Airship that the Brotherhood of Steel has at that particular point now maybe they built more like I said this takes place years after Fallout 4 maybe they built more I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt however I don’t think it would look exactly like the
Pridwin like this almost looks exactly like the pridwin and I I I this is where I start to kind of this kind of where I start to to to do that now this is still in in in in a spot where I’m like okay I will give
Them the benefit of doubt maybe the Brotherhood of Steel had plans maybe they could have you know maybe they had blueprints for the pridwin still somewhere you know they got all these computers and and Terminals and everything files and and what have you maybe they had plans for the pridwin at
One of their outposts and they built one built another one or in the process of building another one because I think this takes place nine years exactly it’s nine years after Fallout 4 takes place um so maybe they built another Airship um like the print wi which is
Still believable but it’s still it’s it’s starting you’re starting to question it a little bit you’re starting to question a little bit the prospect for a Fallout film or a TV show has been in The Ether for years but Howard was always resistant to it I’ve taken countless meetings with
Producers or heard pitches and nothing ever felt like the right fit he says or maybe I was wondering a little how it will affect the franchise I took a very cautious approach Howard is an admirer of interstellar which he cites was one of The Inspirations for beza’s latest game
Starfield a massive open world story that allows players to build their own characters and spaceships to explore the more than thousand planets scattered throughout the Milky Way okay this isn’t about Starfield as much as I want to get into my thoughts about Starfield I uh I already have a video on that
Um so we won’t get into Starfield the movies he’s worked on are some of my favorites and I’d heard that he liked video games and had an eye for that stuff I would says I’d said to somebody and I won’t say who but I was taking a meeting with another producer
And I said before I talk to other people I want to hear that Jonah Nolan says he’ll never do it that led to a conversation between the two and Nolan actually was interested he and joy acquired the rights through their kilter films production company then set about inventing new characters and trials and
Tribulations with executive producer and writers Geneva Roberts and dwar butchered that person’s name and Graham Wagner okay so co-writer of Captain marble and the other person is a veteran of the office Portlandia and Silicon Valley again the only one out of all of those that I’ve seen was Captain Marvel and it
Was who serves as fallouts showrunners okay we got another picture down here we’ll get into that in a second Howard says he and Bethesda were sold when Nolan and his team proposed building an entirely new story within the existing realm Fallout I did not want to do an interpretation of an
Existing story we did Howard says that was the other thing a lot of pictures were you know the movie of Fallout 3 I was like yeah we told that story I don’t have a lot of interest in seeing those translated I was interested in someone telling a unique Fallout story treating
It like a game it gave the creators of the series their own play ground to play in okay so now here’s a better picture of the Brotherhood of Steel armor and a Brotherhood of Steel like person outside the armor with their um uniform on and this one’s name is
Uh Maximus which is which fits because the VA the Brotherhood of Steel is very uh you know extra like that so let’s take a look at this at this armor now I think personally this looks very well made the outfit looks pretty good um it’s very clean
Which is how I would imagine it would be because I don’t see the Brotherhood going out and staying for too too long out in the uh the Wasteland so they would come back and they would clean up and they would have fresh uniforms which okay that makes sense um the weapon
Looks real nice looks real good basically what I’m saying is that this this whole thing looks good there’s a lot of looking good in this show that I’ve been seeing there’s a lot of stuff that looks good but that’s only half of it as the Fallout show progresses Lucy’s Journey
Intersects with two other lead characters who are new to the universe one of them is a wannabe Soldier Maximus played by Aaron moton uh from the tragic py the tragic py oh the tragic py from the Knight of I don’t I don’t know what that is not I’ve not
Seen whatever that is who grew up above ground but like Lucy was also raised in a cloistered family of sorts a brutal Collective of Warriors called the Brotherhood of Steel okay now we’re going to now we’re going to see um more and more of
The the more more of the eh as we read more about the Brotherhood so to preface this to preface this section um this all is taking place on the west coast this is like in the Los Angeles area which is fine that’s great we we we love the West
Coast here we love the West Coast um Fallout stuff uh New Vegas by far objectively again as I said earlier objectively factually the superior Fallout game 100% but let’s read more about the Brotherhood of Steel so they’re talking about them a little bit it’s a little bit of the Marine
Corps yeah it’s a little bit of the knight’s Templar yeah it’s kind of this weird Fusion yeah I mean that makes sense Nolan says in the absence of a federal government you just had all of this military hardware lying around who would get it and how would they maintain
Control of it the answer is the Brotherhood which Nolan describes is being fueled by a mutated version of patriotism religion loyalty and fraternity their control comes from the battalions of super soldier Knights and Shining power armor who stalk the landscape enforcing the brotherhood’s N notion of order Maximus fills a role
That’s straight out of medieval times he a squire no one says this is a drawing of a classic artherion night Legend where life was cheap and you had a squire as long as they were useful they had to prove their worth they had to prove their Valor and their strength and
If they didn’t they were kind of cast aside okay so here’s where I really start to have issues with how they’re doing the TV show I I know someone in the comments is going to watch like 30% of this video and be like why you’re nerd who gives a if it’s a
Good TV show shut the up I’m passionate about fallout Fallout is one of the few things I’m actually passionate about I legitimately enjoy Fallout so as they’re talking here um the Brotherhood of Steel uh enforcing order in the Wasteland the Brotherhood of Steel doesn’t enforce uh the
Brotherhood are if if you guys know the Brotherhood are there specifically to take the technology they believe that the technology was the reason for the societal collapse and the uh the war so they’re like we’re going to take all of the technology away from stupid people
And we’re going to hoard it like our whole purpose is to hoard the technology They Don’t Really enforce a notion of order that’s more of the enclaves thing the enclaves thing is more of the we are essentially the government and uh you will listen to us and do what we say
So I think they kind of fused the Brotherhood and The Enclave together um which I mean whatever and maybe again we have very little information more than just what’s been given to us maybe this is a a Elder Lions situation from Fallout 3 where they kind of started doing their own
Thing and wanted to help the wastelanders kind of create a functional Society his thing was he wanted to help the the wastelanders by you know getting the water purifier up and running and all that good stuff maybe this is kind of that similar situation where they’re
Kind of like Hey we’re in this area we kind of feel bad for these dudes maybe their Elders is like maybe we kind of feel bad for these dudes they got all these you know Bandits running around and these and ni like running around you know we’ve got all this power
Armor maybe while we’re out there searching for technology maybe we can kind of keep some some lint of order maybe that’s what’s going on but there’s so little information given that it just kind of puts it as like they they almost combined the enclave and the Brotherhood together and um I I mean
[Laughter] yeah like again this game I keep wanting to say it’s a game because it’s Fallout this show looks good like this is one of the towns it looks very very similar to megaton we’ve even got that piece of airplane right there which is fine you know maybe it’s a a uh maybe
It’s kind of like a little heat and Easter egg to megaton maybe they’re like hey guys you know we we we have Megaton here yeah we’re going to throw back to some Easter egg you know showing some little hidden tidbits you know it’s fine like this looks good like this
Looks good see this signed the supply shop got like you know whatever they can scavenge for a whatever she’s got the little Fallout backpack thing going on that you could get in 76 um and yeah this looks good there’s a there’s like a a city almost a city
Maybe it’s like a big Factory in the distance that might be Los Angeles maybe we’ll go there that’ll be neat um to see what happened there because there was a lot of talk of Los Angeles and Fallout 1 I won’t get into that I don’t
Remember any of it but I know there was talk of Los Angeles and some of the stuff that happened in Los Angel in like Fallout one or two um which would be cool which would be cool Max serves the giant seemingly robotic figure of his master and with
The same naive faith that Lucy has in her Vault dwellers but unlike her he has a cynical sense of self-preservation that leads him to not always behave honorably or heroically okay that’s good yeah we’ve got some character floss I like that one of the things we’re trying
To gently sidestep here is that kind of binary thinking like these are the good guys or the bad guys no one says whoever the good guys and the bad guys were they destroyed the world so now we’re in a much more gray area okay I mean I guess
That can kind of work for some situations but there are some situations in The Fallout world where there are bad guys like the Raiders are bad guys um the uh The Enclave are technically bad guys uh the Brotherhood out Outcast are technically bad guys even the Brotherhood of Steel if you have
Technology that they want they’re technically bad guys like there’s uh I I get where they’re coming from with kind of like a more ra area you know I I get that that’s uh and if they do they do write it well into the story like I’ve said I’ve never seen Westworld
And this guy had created Westworld and apparently that was really good I’m hoping that this is really good I’m hoping that it’s not as uh there’s a lot more to it than what we’re just seeing in all the Articles and everything like that bout world is fil build by a
Sprawling Ensemble including Kyle mclin as Lucy’s father I don’t know who that is the overseer okay so her dad is the overseer of all 33 so that’d be cool maybe he can give us more insight into the Vault that’d be neat which essentially makes him the mayor of their Hometown while homeland’s Serita
Kari look I’m going to butcher some of these names is a different kind of leader of this world willing to sacrifice anything for her banded people okay Moses Aras who played Who as a child played Rico on Hannah Montana I okay I’ve never watch that show coasters as Lucy’s inquisitive
Brother okay Michael Emerson who starred in Nolan’s Person of Interest is is best known for the hatch inhabiting Benjamin lus unlost stays above ground this time playing an enigmatic researcher named Wiig most of the parties are chasing ing the an artifact that has the potential to radically change the power dynamic in
This world as noan put it so I mean is it like a different version of the Geck um is it some kind of weapon see that’s I’m kind of interested to know okay so here we going in uh the cowboy Gunslinger ghoul Walton gogin in the moment of
Repose as the ghoul in the upcoming Fallout series see this is very wild west to me this screams West Coast and I like it then there is fallouts wild card its third lead figure the Sinister Bounty Hunter known as the ghoul okay the ghoul is a gruesomely
Scarred Rough Rider who has a Cod of Honor but also a ruthless streak he is The Good the Bad and the Ugly all rolled into one he is also quite a Survivor having existed for hundreds of years the shows occasionally flashes back to the human being he once was a father and
Husband named Cooper Howard before the nuclear Holocaust turned the world into a cinder and transformed him into an undead noseless Sharp Shooting Fiend I like that I like that I’m I’m going to be honest I like that I like that they’re taking a character like a ghoul and they’re giving us
Backstory and they’re flashing back to pre-war I think that’s cool in the Fallout games ghouls are typically Canon fodder mindless zombies who bodies have been mutated by radiation the ghoul is a legend distinct among His Kind for his cleverness and cunning let me read the rest of the paragraph there’s still something of
Cooper Howard the person he used to be within this deicated form Walton’s equally Adept at drama and comedy which is so difficult no one said there’s a chasm in time and distance between who this guy was and who he’s become which for me creates an enormous dramatic
Question what happened to this guy so we’ll walk backwards to that okay so the way they talk about how his character is distinct among other ghouls as like other ghouls are all feral which is true eventually ghouls do turn feral however this character is not distinct there are dozens
Of ghouls who are still themselves who are still coherent um who still have cogn cogni cognizant thought um so I don’t understand why they took this route they could have just made him a ghoul and then just had a backstory on him and just made him an interesting character
You know they didn’t have to take that stance of he he’s distinct of his kind he’s not the only one you know he’s the only one who’s not a pharoh ghoul like uh what was the city named in Fallout 3 uh the the necro City or whatever it was
In Fallout 3 where was basically their whole city there was hundreds of them down there so maybe for this particular area he’s one of the few ghouls that are still themselves in in a way um but to say that he’s like ghouls are typically mindless zombies um while is true is also false
At the same time um so yeah we’ll we’ll see we’ll see um it could be they just kind of wrote it that way maybe because the Prosthetics were kind of a pain and they didn’t want to have several different ghouls who they had to do Prosthetics like that for
Um but again they could have just been like he’s the you know they could have just said he was the ghoul whatever and then just never brought another ghoul into the show which would have been complicated it would have made it a little bit harder because ghouls are one
Of the more common like I guess lower level enemies that you find in Fallout games but they I mean they still could have done it they just didn’t hey this is yeah he compares the ghoul to the poet Virgil in Dante’s Inferno someone in this hellish landscape who knows its full
Scopes Origins and secrets he becomes our guide and our protagonist in that older world even as we understand him to be the antagonist at the end of the world no one says see I like that he’s kind of an but he’s like not an we kind of grow to like him we
Learn a little bit about him I like that I like that again my whole situation again my whole Thoughts with the uh the ghoul situation is well there’s a picture down there we look at that look at that the games have already created a template for how creatures like him look
But that was dialed back for Gregor’s character for one he’s smarter than the average ghoul he would naturally have a different physique and face but there’s also a practical reason to make him less ghoulish you have to be extremely careful when you’re putting full Appliance on someone’s face because you
Hire the for a reason noan says their face is their instrument you want the tiny little expressions and the changes that they make okay I think that’s kind of a cop out honestly um I think that’s kind of a cop out because I don’t think that Prosthetics can inhab inhibit a actor’s performance
Um talking the other day about this article with someone they brought up Doug Jones from the pans Labyrinth won a Oscar for his performance and he was just caked in Prosthetics and everything like that and he still delivered that that performance I I think that’s kind of a copout and again
They mention again that he is smarter than the average ghoul um which again there are other ghouls that are would be like this in this world again I’m sticking too much on to this but there would be more ghouls than just this one guy who still had their thought process you
Know in their you know still had their thought process still had their own you know their personality still there would be more than just this one ghoul I mean here’s the thing it looks fine it looks fine yeah it looks fine prosthetic designer Vincent vanj devised the look of the
Ghoul I want to be able to see Walton and his performance he needs to look like a ghoul from the game and he needs to be kind of hot no ghouls aren’t supposed to be hot they’re supposed to be I mean here’s here’s the thing I’ve been on the
Internet I know there’s people like that somewhere who are like man I’d that ghou ghouls are supposed to be the epitome of Decay just like the civilization they reside in they’re supposed to be they’re supposed to be like they’re supposed to be they’re supposed to be the remnants
Of what once was while also being the realization of what is uh that’s how I think of ghouls I think of ghouls as like they are the person from from back in you know ye olden times of before the bomb dropped they still have their thoughts their memories their all that
Stuff from back then but they also have the physical appearance and the decay of what has become of the world I I’ve always thought of ghouls like that the last part turned out to be literally true the first day we were shooting with Walton in his makeup he
Comes to the set and I’m looking at him like Walton are you crying he just had sweat leaking out of his Prosthetics under his eyes because it was so hot if Lucy is the innocent of the show then the ghoul is her polar opposite damaged and hardened by centuries of endless
Life in the state of near death he’s got a lot of mileage on him and he’s still got a Swagger and kind of charm to him says no one see I like that I like that you know he’s he’s he’s been up by the world but
He’s still like yeah I’m a badass fine like it’s anti-heroes the world of Fallout has maintained and appeal despite its Grim aspect it’s the Dark World in many ways no one says but the games were fun to play fun to explore and I think that a mandate for us is to
Make sure that when it was enjoyable to spend time in this universe so yeah I’m I’m there’s there’s things I’m excited about there’s things that I’m worried about this uh apparently takes place in the west yet uh in everything that I’ve read there’s been no mention
Of the NCR who would still be around uh which kind of worries me that maybe they’ve just kind of made the Brotherhood of Steel the NCR there’s a lot of things that I’m worried about there’s a lot of things that I can say but I I mean we’re just going to
