Isaiah the spirit of the Lord God is upon me because the Lord has anointed me he has sent me to bring Glad Tidings to the poor to heal the brokenhearted to Proclaim Liberty to captives and release to the prisoners to announce a year of favor from the Lord and a day of vindication

Is Good refin from every kind of evil May the God of Peace make you peace perfectly holy and may you entirely Spirit soul and body be preserved blameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ the one who calls you is faithful and he will also accomplish it the word of the Lord
Hallelujah hallelujah hallelu hallelu hallu the spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to bring Glad Tidings to the poor hallelujah hallelujah Hallelu the Lord be with you and with your spirit a reading from the holy gospel according to John A Man Named John was sent from God he came for Testimony to testify to the light so that all might believe through him he was not the light but came to
Testify to the light and this is the testimony of John when the Jews from Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to him to ask him who are you he admitted and did not deny it but admitted I am not the Christ so they asked him what are you then are you
Elijah and he said I am not are you the prophet he answered no so they said to him who are you so that we can give an answer to those who sent us what do you have to say for yourself he said I am the voice of one
Crying out in the desert make straight the way of the Lord as Isaiah the prophet said some Pharisees were also sent they asked him why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ or Elijah or the prophet John answered them I baptize with water but there is one among you
Whom you do not recognize the one who is coming after me whose sandals strap I am not worthy to untie this happened in Bethany across the Jordan where John was baptizing the gospel of the Lord through the words of the go be wiped away what does it mean that Jesus is the
Christ in Our Gospel today John the Baptist clearly points out I am not the Christ but rather The Voice of one crying out in the in the desert he is pointing Us in the direction of Jesus as a matter of language Christ comes from the Greek word Christos which in Hebrew is
Messiah but the meaning of this word Christ is not savior son or even God but the anointed one and so in our first reading from the prophet Isaiah we hear that the Spirit of the Lord God is upon me because the Lord has anointed
Me Jesus who is the Son of God and our savior is the Christ the anointed one sent to set us free from sin and to bring us the new life that we can only find in God John the Baptist was also sent but for a different reason he was sent of he
Was sent ahead of him to make straight the way of the Lord and each of us have been sent by virtue of our own baptism in which we are given a share in Christ’s anointing in a baptism that surpasses the one of John so what is this anointing given to
Jesus the Christ what is the ointment which he was anointed with we can think of times in the body ible when he is physically anointed as when the sinful woman anoints his feet with ointment or when Mary Magdalene anoints his head with oil before his passion at Christ’s baptism the Holy
Spirit descended upon him in the form of a dove which points to an anointing of the Holy Spirit but all these things physical anointments with o physical anointings with ointments and oil or the the Holy Spirit descending upon the son in his Humanity points us to the ointment with which Christ was
Anointed his very flesh which he assumed at his first coming if the Son of God did not assume human flesh how could his feet or his head have been Anointed The Eternal Word begotten before all ages certainly has no need for the Holy Spirit IR to descend upon
Him since in his divinity he is one with the spirit yet in his Humanity he receives the spirit’s gifts which he in turn pours out upon us when we are anointed with the crism of Salvation Jesus the son of God is the anointed one the Christ Anointed with the Flesh of a real
Human body by which we are all saved this Advent season prepares us for Jesus’s birth which is only a little over a week away now while this preparation is certainly a time to help us prepare spiritually from deepening our prayer life to curbing our bad actions to
Giving us an opportunity to make a good confession before Christmas Advent is also a time to prepare so that we can better grasp just how important Jesus’s birth is how it changed the world the Incarnation in which the Son of God became flesh was not just the birth of another
Baby it is the center point of all human history how could it not be our God has entered our world bringing with him the promise of eternal life when we consider the mystery of the Incarnation we must remember some very important points about it Jesus’s body was not a mere Mirage or
Appearance which the Son of God used for a while in order to interact with other humans if it were then we wouldn’t have been saved and all of Christ’s actions would have been mere delusions nor is Jesus an incomplete human as if his divinity sucked up all his
Humanity nor are Jesus’s Divinity and Humanity at odds with each other as if his human actions work in opposition to his Divine activity no Jesus Christ is true God and true man God from all eternity he took on our human nature in the womb of his mother
Mary he he is as complete a human being as you and me having a body a human soul a human intellect and and will emotions and feelings and physical needs like food and sleep his actions his human actions work in perfect his actions work in Perfect Harmony coming from both his Divine and
Human Wills this is Christ’s anointing this is why we rejoice in the Incarnation and why we need this season of Advent to prepare to ponder this great mystery that is upon us when we say that Jesus was like us in all things but sin this also points us to Christ’s
Mission on Earth he became man he became incarnate in order to go to the cross and set us free sinless he came to call Sinners perfect he offered his one Eternal sacrifice on the cross in this we find the flourishing of Jesus’s anointing in fact it is the very fulfillment of that
Anointing God did not want just anyone to save the world he wanted his son whom he sent and chose to be the Messiah the anointed one the Christ while God could have saved the world in an infinite number of ways because he is God we cannot doubt the Grandeur of his
Majesty the way in which he saved us by S by sending the son as man was the most fitting this is how we would understand just how much God loves us this is how we would be able to be United with our savior this is what Christ was anointed to
Do this is why he was born while like John the Baptist we can say I am not the Christ Jesus nevertheless gives us a share in his anointing as we live our Catholic faith when we were baptized with the baptism of Christ which was foreshadowed in John’s baptism our lives were forever ever
Configured to the Life of Christ so that we could offer right and fitting solemn worship to the father all the days of our life at our confirmation the spirit sealed us with his gift something that we certainly need as weak human beings to help us face the spiritual battles that will
Come our way disposing us making us ready to live virtuously and each of us have been given some special mission in life whether it is a religious vocation or being called to marriage and raising a family to influencing others for the better in our workplaces to being that person put into
Someone else’s life at just the right moment and making an impact that may have consequences into eternity John the Baptist called souls to repentance we may not know the mission which God has entrusted to us or we may know it but what we do know is that none
Of us are the Christ only Jesus is but all of us have been given a share in his anointing to carry out his loving plan may we have the wisdom to know what that plan is and what he asks of us Christmas will soon be here and
Because of that we Rejoice on this gate Sunday the Lord is near and when he comes we will see why we indeed Rejoice Our God comes to us in human flesh to save us from our sins by this anointing with human flesh Jesus raises us up anoint ing us as he
Configures us to himself and he desires that we all be with him forever in heaven for it is there that all of God’s anointed will find their true and Lasting homand and the joy that will have no end I believe in God I believe in one God
The Father the Almighty maker of heaven and Earth of all things visible and invisible I believe in in one Lord Jesus Christ the only begotten Son of God born of the father before all ages God from God light from light true God from true God begotten not made consubstantial
With the father through him all things were made for us men and for our Salvation he came down from heaven and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary and became man for our sake he was crucified under pontious pilot he suffered death and was
Buried and rose again on the third day in accordance with the scriptures he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father he will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end I believe in the Holy Spirit the
Lord The Giver of Life who proceeds from the father and the son who with the father and the son is adored and glorified who has spoken through the prophets I believe in one Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church iess one baptism for the Forgiveness of sins and I look
