Uh by my dear brother uh danani may Allah preserve him and it’s it’s in two parts s there’s a a section that has a biography of the great uh Sage scholar Saint Noah through God Sheik Sal Al Jafari whose uh poem we you were greeted by as you entered into the this Zoom
Room is one of my favorite my f my favorite song sacred songs by shik Al Jafari uh and uh you know one of the things about his poetry they’re full of so much joy and like my dear brother Imam suib sulan may Allah have mercy upon him who passed away um through
Cancer about two Ramadan ago uh I am uh committed to fostering and cultivating a joyful practice of Islam in America a joyful practice of Islam a spiritual practice of Islam a peaceful practice of Islam an indigenous practice of Islam a relevant social culturally relevant practice of Islam and economically
Empowering practice of Islam inshah tala and Sh jaf was about all of that alhamdulillah may Allah Tal be pleased with him and may Allah have mercy upon him and may Allah illuminate his grave and sanctify his secret uh and and and always benefit us through him and
Through his Works uh and through his writings we are going to continue with the Hadith that we started with last week uh and it’s Hadith 25 if you have the book uh again if you would like the Arabic I have the Arabic PDF Sam Shar sh it with me so if you
Read Arabic or you’d like to I do some some of you I know some of you are uh you know very diligent dedicated uh Seekers of sacred knowledge and so I encourage you to to memorize these Hadith and if you’re comfortable with Arabic memorize them in
Arabic so that by the end of the course you’ve memorized all 40 Hadith right all 40 Hadith and uh and if you’re not comfortable with Arabic memorize them in English memorize them in English Okay and uh so whether you memorize them in Arabic or English or both by the end of
The course inshallah I’d like to hear you know man maybe we might do this as we go through the course you know maybe you know at the beginning of each class if there’s anyone who’s memorized the Hadith uh can recite it in English or Arabic without uh looking you can’t look
Right uh and you don’t have to have your camera on if you don’t if you’re not comfortable with that we’ll trust you then inshallah we’ll like you to recite it we’ll just have one person do that so we don’t take too much time but yeah memorize these Hadith uh there’s a great
Reward for memorizing 40 Hadith of prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam it has been narrated uh in numerous Hadith their chains have weakness in them but together when you bring them all together uh they corroborate each other and strengthen one another uh and so it’s always uh encouraged by our Scholars our glorious
Muslim Scholars may Allah have mercy upon them all to use Hadith even if they have weak chains of transmission to encourage people to do meritorious acts in fact there’s one narration where Prophet muhammmad sallallahu Ali wasallam is reported to have said that whoever memorizes 40 of my narrations 40
Of my sayings will be raised and included among the scholars on the day of judgment so even if you didn’t go to alar like Jafari right even if you didn’t graduate from alar like ja if you memorize 40 you will be in the company
Of the likes of Al Jafar you be in the company of the likes of IM Al gazali you be the company of the likes of M as Ali and M ji Ando and and and and so many others right you’ll be in their company if you memorize if
You dedicate to memorizing 40 so that’s uh something that I really encourage you that’s something I’m I’m doing in as well so that we can you know not just listen to these Hadith not just study them but we can begin to internalize their meanings we can have the words of the Beloved Prophet
Muhammad wasam in your soul in your heart and that is its own kind of alchemy that is its own kind of transformation and so let’s read the Hadith again inal and I see I’m joined Again by my dear brother and teacher she Ahmed Muhammad uh and I’m not sure if
His name is spelled uh aham on purpose or not so you know and my dear brother aad leavon brown shik lvon brown alhamdulillah um and you know mallah I’m very happy that they’re both with me and they’re they’re also both connected to shik jaf’s uh spiritual and intellectual
Uh Legacy so you are both welcome and uh if there’s anything you want to contribute uh you know to uh this uh lesson you know please do so also IMD I see you I see you you’re welcome welcome welcome alhamdulillah uh bah so let’s let’s read
And you know as always I would like someone uh you know to read the English you don’t have to be a scholar you don’t have to be an Imam anyone who’s has the you know the courage and you know doesn’t uh mind reading and unmuting themselves you can join in please and
Read the translation I will read the Arabic uh the the Arabic text first Anyone who can sh read the translation for us I can go ahead and read thank you on the authority of who said that the messenger of God sallu alaihi wasallam said three things are sacred to God and whoever safeguards them God would safeguard for him the matters of his religion and worldly life
And whoever does not Safeguard them God will not Safeguard anything for him the sanctity of Islam my sanctity and the sanctity of of my ties of kinship alhamdulillah mallah so uh this Hadith we started last week uh and today inshallah we’re going to complete the commentary and you know sometimes in
This class I I summarize or I I take um you know uh selected sections from shik Al jafar’s commentary but I I you know I I looked at it before the class and preparation and I just don’t see anything that can be left out I really
Don’t see I think it’s every word uh is relevant to us here uh in the United States uh and Beyond to Modern Muslims I think and you know Sheik Ahmed uh Sheik Lavan IM mad you know let me know if you think otherwise but I think personally
This is the the most important Hadith in the whole collection I think this is the most important Hadith in the whole collection because it summarizes everything else right it summarizes everything else and Allah t uh knows better and so I’m going to be reading I
I usually don’t you know do this but I I will I will basically be reading and and just uh uh explaining unpacking and excavate some of the meanings of shik Jafari of this in his commentary the beautiful thing about uh this book is it’s not only a collection of
Aith by jaf it also is a collection of his commentary on those Hadith and it is just a treasure a treasure of wisdom uh a treasure of knowledge uh a treasure of experience that you you won’t find anywhere else so we’ll begin and the first thing he says is that the uh these
Three things that are sacred refer to Rights refer to and there’s a lot of talk about rights in our day and and age people wave the flag of Human Rights don’t they people wave the flag of animal rights people wave the flag of gay rights and lesbian rights people wave
The flag uh of civil rights lots of talk about rights in this Hadith we learn the importance of the rights of God we don’t we don’t hear anyone talking about that do we the rights of God the rights of the Creator the H of Allah in this Hadith
We are introduced to the rights of theas sallam the rights of our Beloved the greatest beloved of a prophet Muhammad Sall alaihi wasallam we don’t hear anyone in our day and age hardly in the popular culture and mainstream culture talking about the rights of any Prophet not just Prophet
Muhammad s alaihi wasallam we don’t hear anyone talking about the rights of any prophet in fact whenever you uh Champion the rights of the prophets you are you know looked upon as strange and and weird and out ofd and anachronistic and you know what you take religion
Seriously like we’ you know and this is again because of the trauma that Europeans and white Americans European Americans by extension experienced through Christendom and Christianity right they uh were victims and uh they were victims of a religious hierarchy and Authority that abused its power and did not separate between
Superstition and uh religious dogma and scientific inquiry and there were many many transgressions that were done in the name of Christianity and so in the Modern Age especially after World War I on World War II which really were not world wars they were European Wars that
Were fought by people um you know that in Europe and by their colonies they weren’t really world wars but anyway we’ll talk about that another time uh after the so-called World War I and World War II Europe really divorced itself from religion right and so talk of the rights
Of of of prophets and Messengers is something you don’t hear right we have a secular humanism that Reigns Supreme and as Muslims we have to understand that if you grew up in the west like me if you grew up in America if you grew up uh in in the in in
England or France or Germany or Spain or Portugal uh or Brazil or Mexico right you have a world view there’s a certain world viw that we’ve inherited from our religious Traditions from our families from our cultures uh that in that many times does not Center God and it is not sent to the
Prophets and Messengers and then thirdly in this Hadith we are introduced to the rights of the family of prophet Muhammad s alaihi wasallam what the rights of the family of prophet Muhammad that’s something that we don’t even talk about usually in Islam in m in mosques or Islamic schools for that matter the
Rights of his family and again if you’re a western person like me that is an alien concept that is what the American Revolution was all about dismantling any kind of system that honored people because of blood because of their genetic inheritance like what is that huh and so again
The rights of God the rights of the messenger Sall alaihi wasallam and the rights of the family of the Messenger s alhi wasallam are centered in this Hadith and they are centered for our sake they are centered for our benefit we live in a world that claims to be about
Meritocracy right claims to be about you know people working being rewarded for working their hardest right but year after year election cycle after election cycle uh we see that really it is the rich and the powerful who benefit even from tragedies even from Global crises like the covid pandemic we see that it’s
The rich and Powerful uh whose votes really count and so is that really a merit a meritocracy the prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam is teaching us something very important that if we want to attain inner peace if we want to establish justice if we want guidance if we want communities and families that
Are whole and healthy and sacred we must put God’s rights and the prophet’s rights and the family of the prophet’s rights as a priority in everything we do and this is something that you know and this is really personal for me because you know this is the Islam that I learned you
Know 30 uh plus years ago uh from my teachers you know from my teachers and I was I was very very fortunate right so for me this is normal this is normative uh this is not new and um and I hope for for for many of you maybe
Most of you that this is not new this is normative especially if you come from a traditional Muslim Society or your family um is a family that preserves that but if you’re not used to hearing talk of Rights of God and his Prophet peace and blessings be upon him and of his family
I encourage you I I I I I invite you to to keep an open mind and an open heart like this is how Muslims all over the world understood Islam until very recently until about 200 years ago when a particular movement uh began that only championed the rights of
God right only Champion the rights of God but this is not truth this is this is not faithful to what the Quran teaches as we’ll see and so let’s let’s dive right into the shik’s commentary he says that the the rights of Islam or the the
The sanctity of Islam it is comprised of everything that Islam and by Islam here he means everything that that God exalted is he and his messenger Prophet Muhammad s alai wasallam God bless him and Grant the peace everything that Islam asks of you asks of the
Muslim asks of the one who is on a journey of of willing loving surrender and submission to the will of God and he says that there there it it comprises many different Affairs many different things uh and uh among them is his statement sallallah alaihi wasallam is Prophet
Muhammad statement that the Muslim is the one from whom other Muslims are safe from his or her tongue and hand and Muslim and there’s another narration there’s another uh in which prophet Muhammad God bless him and Grant him peace is reported to have said Muslim that the one who truly surrenders to God is the one from whom people the people are safe from his tongue or her tongue and his or her hand so I have a question for you if this is the definition of what a Muslim is why do we have so many Muslims who
Are being hurt in Muslim spaces so many Muslims that are abused in in Muslim countries so many Muslims that are traumatized by fellow Muslims why is it when the first the first thing that comes to our mind when we hear the word Muslim is not that we’re a person of
Safety you see a Muslim is a is you know we we’re talking uh we’re talking about spirituality healing and Community right that’s the title of this course 40 Hadith on spirituality healing and Community when we talk about building Community we truly need safe spaces see having a safe space is not something
New the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam is telling us here that a Muslim is someone who other Muslims and and other human beings are safe from their tongue meaning their words they don’t use they don’t weaponize their words they don’t use their words to harm people they don’t lie about people they don’t spread
Rumors about people and by extension their tweets or their Facebook statuses or their Instagram posts or their Tik Tok posts they don’t use text messaging right because that’s another form of communication lisan tongue here means any form of communication their communication is safe so ask yourself am I a person whose
Communication with people and about people is safe may Allah make us among them and the second part of that is that the Muslim the real Muslim is the person who whom people who people are safe from their hand now the hand here is a metaphor for their entire body
So it’s not just the hand but it’s their every limb their hand their eyes their ears their feet their private parts right their stomach so a true Muslim a real Muslim is not going to and I don’t want to start you know I’m trying to I don’t want to name all
The atrocities that have been done by Muslims in the name of of Islam but it’s not going to behead PE innocent people it’s not going to blow up buses of innocent Muslims blow up massag mosques of innocent Muslims or Christians or Jews or Hindus or atheists
Even a Muslim is a person from whom others are safe physically safe mentally safe spiritually safe now especially this goes for religious leaders spiritual leaders Community leaders we have almost every few months almost every year we have allegations and cases of religious abuse I don’t call it spiritual abuse
Cuz anyone who truly knows the nature the spirit the r knows the spirit cannot be abused the spirit cannot be harmed the spirit is above being harmed but what people are really getting at is religious abuse Mis using religion to exploit and harm
Others so an IM or a sheh or a she or a chaplain or a leader of a uh Muslim Community or a mid or a board member who uses their position to take advantage of people is failing is doing what is actually diametrically opposed to the essence of this
Way and then he quotes theith that the one who surrenders is the brother and by extension the sister of the one who surrenders right so these all relate to the rights and and your brother has rights on you your sibling who’s your brother or sister they have rights on
You right rights of good companionship rights of Maintenance rights of solidarity sometimes uh you know in in death rights of inheritance even right so they’re rights now the rights that you have on your brother in faith or your sister in faith are not identical to the rights that your
Sibling has on you and that should not be misunderstood but the true Brotherhood and Sisterhood is that of Faith so we don’t inherit from each other right we don’t do that but we do have particular rights upon one another and there are six rights that Prophet Muhammad sallam he explicitly
Mentioned and of course there are others IM gazali has a whole book in the his magnum opus the Revival of the Sciences of the way just on on the rights of of your brothers and your sisters it is a beautiful beautiful beautiful chapter I encourage everyone
Who has not read it to read it uh she MTAR Holland may Allah have mercy on his soul he translated it as an independent book titled duties of Brotherhood in Islam duties it is a true fraternity some of you belong to fraternities right from your college days your University days
We don’t know what fraternity is until you read this book right this chapter but the prophet Salli wasallam said your brother you know from the rights your brother and sister have on you is that when they give you us when they give you Salam when they greet you at peace you
Respond that’s a right that when they sneeze and say Al dillah you say when they invite you to eat when they invite you to a meal you answer oh I’m sorry for some reason my screen is blurry I wonder why okay let me hold on let me thank you
For bringing that to my attention uh let me turn off my video that might help because my my backround is not my background is not blurred let me see if this helps yes did that fix it yes okay great thank you thanks for bringing that to my attention alhamdulillah uh
So if you’re invited to a meal you you answer as long as you don’t have any uh extenuating circumstances or any uh you know schedule conflicts right or there’s no harm and you’re going to answer that that that da that da that invitation uh from the rights that we
Owe our Muslim brothers and sisters uh is that uh when they die we follow their funeral beer right we follow you know we we we pray behind them and we follow their their funeral beer from the rights that your Muslim brother and sister have upon
You is that when they ask you for advice when they ask you for counsel you give them your honest sincere counsel right there’s a whole Hadith about this right that the whole religion is uh about sincere counsel it’s about giving to our fellow Muslims you know the utmost
Utmost and you know based on our knowledge based on our experience giving them that uh that advice and the prophet s Al wasallam is reported have said that from among the rights that we owe one another is that when your brother or sister who’s a Muslim Falls sick oh blurry again not sure
Why uh that when your brother or sister Falls sick that you visit them that you go to visit them and again this is a great uh great door to Allah’s uh mercy and Allah’s presence because Allah in a has said that when you visit a sick person I’m paraphrasing
But when you visit a sick person you find god with them God is there God’s presence is there God’s reward is with them God’s grace and mercy is with them when you visit a sick person our beloved Sall alaihi when you hear me say the word the
Beloved or our beloved I’m talking about Prophet Muhammad s alaihi wasallam this is this is something that we have to normalize we have to make normative when you go and study with Muslim Scholars and Sage Scholars of the heart this is how they refer to Prophet Muhammad
Al they call him alhabib the Beloved they don’t just call him the prophet and we need that in our especially in America we we we some our Islam is so dry here sometimes right we need an Islam that stirs our hearts and our emotions right that awakens awakens the spirit within us
So if you hear me say the Beloved know I’m talking about Prophet Muhammad sallu alaihi wasallam uh the the Beloved said sallallahu alh wasallam that when you go visit a sick person 70,000 Angels escort you they go ahead of you so visiting the sick it’s it’s again in
All of these all all of these six rights these are the six basic rights that we owe each other but there’s so many others again IM gazali goes through through most of them in his duties of Brotherhood in Islam uh that you can easily find alhamdulillah it’s very
Accessible um but you know we we really don’t know how to be brothers and sisters to each other until you know we read books like by IM alaz there’s also another book uh called futa the book of Sufi chivalry by Imam assami may Allah have mercy upon him and IM gazali and that’s
Really a book about Brotherhood and Sisterhood but it’s it’s not like the brother and Sisterhood that we’re used to this is a Brotherhood and Sisterhood of service and selflessness sacrifice and effacement and having the best opinion of others it is is it is amazing and so
Then Imam jaf he mentions a number of that the person who forn Ates does not fornicate while he is a Believer right so again or the per or you could also translate it as the person who commits adultery while they’re committing adultery they are not a Believer and from the understandings of
This is that if a person is afflicted by this uh this wrong this sin of of Zena of adultery which is when you have intimate uh relations with a person who’s not your husband or wife if you’re married that’s adultery fornication is a person who has intimate sexual relations uh with a
Person and neither of them is and they are not married right that’s the difference between fornication and and adultery uh and it is it is a major sin it is aab and it is a betrayal of the trust of your private parts IMI has an Incredible
Book it’s a small book called the firsts right and in that book he says the first part of the human being that was created was their private parts and that’s why it has the greatest it’s the greatest am it is the greatest is trust that Allah has given us may Allah protect our
Private parts may Allah protect our private parts and the private parts of our loved ones and our children uh so that we can Elevate our lineage one of the one of the distinctive features of prophet Muhammad s wasallam the unique qualities of prophet Muhammad sallallahu alhi wasallam and I just got a book
Today um on his unique characteristics by IM called masallah you know that I just got this in the mail today alhamdulillah um amazing book right this is again something that we don’t hear enough about are the unique qualities of prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam and from his unique qualities
Is that none of his four fathers or four mothers ever ever ever committed a adultery or fornication they never had sex outside of marriage Allah fortified and and protected his lineage and if you do that for your lineage if you do that for your lineage you will see light and you will
See piety and you will see Purity in your Offspring this is something that again we have to restore Chastity in Islam is not just for pro just for just for women Chastity in Islam is not just for women but it is for men as well and then the prophet sallu alaihi
Wasallam again these are all examples of he said This is aith that many of us are familiar with it’s in the 40 Hadith of IM I was command and is Hadith is often misunderstood misused and abused and used to attack Islam and attack Muslims by uh Islam homophobes and the Hadith is the translation of it is I was commanded to fight
People I was commanded to fight people until they testify that there is no Divine being but God and that I am the Messenger of God and if they say that their blood and their wealth are protected from me are off limit to me except by the right of Islam except with the rights
That are enshrined in Islamic law and their Reckoning is upon God every you know other than that the Reckoning is upon God right I leave them to God and the prophet Sall alh wasallam you know anyone anyone heard this Hadith before right and and there are people who who
Use this Hadith to say oh Islam teaches that uh you should fight and be violent towards people that are not Muslim that you should be harsh towards people that are not Muslim and this cannot be further from the truth because when you look at all
Of the aat of the Quran all of the Hadith and I’m going to include a a link actually this is a wonderful uh article about this Hadith and how it should be proper understood here you go uh yeah here we go and it’s a it’s an article about
Agregation uh in in general right but I did want to uh but if you go towards the end of the article you will see this Hadith mentioned uh specifically and then this is another link to an article from Seekers guidance about this specific Hadith right so
Please look the look that up so that you’re aware so that you’re knowledgeable and so people uh cannot use this Hadith to put you on the defense you don’t have to be on the defense brothers and sisters when you properly understand Islam uh through this scholarly tradition this beautiful scholarly
Tradition this this sophisticated uh scholarly tradition uh so the people that are referred to here are people who are the Arab polytheists the prophet wasam was commanded to fight Arabs who worship idols and the scholars some Scholars mention that this refers to the Arabs of the peninsula in particular and some
Actually limited to a particular tribe right uh so again I’m not going to go into detail but just know that again this Hadith refers to the rights of Islam uh and as a principle we should always remember Allah says there is no compulsion in religion there is no imposing Islam on others and
He said sallallahu alai wasallam uh and then Allah says rather in the Quran how uh wrong how evil is a name of Disobedience and Corruption to call people by names other than their true uh names that were given to them to to to to to call people nicknames of
Impiety and moral corruption after they’ve become Muslim so maybe someone has history yeah maybe someone has history maybe they used to be a criminal you know maybe they used to um uh live a a life of promiscuity and they become Muslim you don’t start calling them names that bring up their
Past right that’s one example of this Ayah so yeah and and the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam as I mentioned last week he was in this beautiful Hadith and and we’ll stop we’ll stop on this note uh with this particular section insh we’ll continue next week inshallah uh in this blessed book uh in
This blessed month of RAB the month of the first spring when the prophet Muhammad s was born he said in this Hadith to abdah AB may Allah be pleased with him and his father which literally means guard God guard God and God will guard you then he went on to
Say this is uh Subhan Allah um from you know and he was teaching Abbas these words when he was a boy he began thei he begins the oh boy I’m going to teach you some words I’m going to teach you some words guard God God will guard
You guard god listen to this guard God and you will find God in front of you literally in yeah before you meaning if you guard God’s Commandments if you avoid his prohibitions you will find yourself in the divine presence and you if and if you ask ask God
And if you seek help seek help from God and some companions would take this literally they actually made it incumbent on themselves they took it a vow never to ask anyone for anything except Allah except God there’s one companion who even when he dropped his
Uh his whip that he used when he was riding his horse when he dropped it on the ground he wouldn’t ask anyone to pick it up for him he would actually get down from the horse and and you know pick it up himself and one of my uh teachers when I
Was in Nigeria Inori my Sheik she Ahmed ala Manana may Allah be may Allah preserve him uh his brother he was known as Baba Leu that was his name Baba Leu he wasn’t known as a scholar even though he was scholarly he he studied himself but he wasn’t
Known as a teacher or or someone who wrote he was known not for his knowledge but for his character for his charact he was a very Pious man and and everyone would always go to him and ask him for to pray for them right because his prayers were were
Must right if he prayed for you done that that that’s it done and so B may Allah preserve him one of the things that he was known for is he would never ask anyone for anything not even his wife or his children he would never ask them to go
Do chores for him never to bring him food nothing he would never ask them for anything following this Hadith right so there there are people and and and you could see the light on his face right so there are people that have taken this Hadith and have lived this
Hadith and then the pro and then in this Hadith uh the prophet Sall alaihi wasallam says if all if all of the that know that if the entire umah if the all of the community they gathered to benefit you with something they would not benefit you with anything except what Allah had
Already written for you and if the entire umah gathered to dis to to harm you this is this is believe this is Oneness this is the Oneness of God In Action right to understand this is to really understand what to is that if they all gathered to to harm
You they would not be able to harm you not one aota not one tit as it says in the book except with something that Allah had already written for you so don’t worry about people don’t worry about other people don’t worry about other people what they’re going to do to you with
Their planning and with you know their schemes and their plots and don’t worry about people and also don’t don’t put your hope in how people going to benefit you let your heart be attached to let your heart and your hopes be connected to the loving Lord of all the
Worlds and then he said that the Pens have been lifted in the pen in the paper the scrolls are dried meaning that what God has written has been decreed and and and will be so and then lastly uh he says in this section whoever whoever neglects any aspect of the
Rights of Islam whoever neglects any aspects of uh the rights of God then that person himself their reward his or her reward is that they themselves will be neglected and there’s aith where the Prophet wasallam was reported to have said the person who does not do their prayers at the prescribed
Time the ritual prayer supplicates against the person who neglects to do the prayer in its proper time so if a person does not offer fer at the time of or if a person doesn’t offer in the time of or or in their times those prayers can speak this is one of the
Things I learned for my teacher she Ahmed Z Abdullah that the prayer and the fasting that we do and the zakat that we give and the Hajj we make they’re not just things that we do but but they themselves have have a spirit right they they they are entities they are
Realities and so your prayer says with the tongue of its state not your prayer but the person who doesn’t do the prayer at at the proper time says hey you you you neglected me sorry I don’t know what’s going on with my screen uh you neglected me so
May God neglect you as you neglected me may Allah protect us from that may Allah protect us from that and this again is the principle that the prophet taught us as you treat as you engage as you interact as you transact so shall you be treated so may Allah protect us from
Ever performing our prayers outside of their time and I know a lot of us struggle a lot of people struggle with uh praying F on time a lot of people struggle with praying on time a lot of people struggle with praying on time right and the way to
Pray on time is to go to sleep early right two things well three things if you want to pray fud on time number one go to sleep as early as possible yeah go to sleep as early as possible uh so that you have the you know and everyone’s different you know you know
How much sleep you need some of us need 10 hours of sleep some of us need eight hours of sleep some seven you know four some people need five right IAS may Allah have mercy on his soul be pleased with him he used to get two hours of sleep at night that’s
All he needed there two hours of sleep I have teachers who don’t sleep at night you know they don’t sleep at night and sometimes they they don’t sleep until two or three days go by right the more spiritual you become the less you need sleep also exercise is a big part
Of getting um up for feder you know the more you exercise even if it’s just walking 20 30 minutes or an hour a day it it enables your body uh to need less sleep and to do the repair and Rejuvenation that uh is that happens more efficiently when you’re asleep so
That’s that’s I guess two things the third thing uh is not going to sleep on a on a full stomach okay so don’t you do your best not to eat uh more than three or four hours before going to bed right if you go to sleep on a full stomach if you
Have dinner or if you have a you know a large snack before you go to sleep it’s more difficult to wake up and we shouldn’t just be aiming to wake up for f we should be wor we should be aiming to wake up for before f is that’s when Allah’s
Presence can be felt easily the last third of the night right the next thing you want to do to to wake up for is go to sleep in W make W before you go to sleep and be in you know make the last thing you say some phrase of mentioning God’s
Names like go to sleep saying go to sleep saying Subhan Allah Subhan Allah Subhan Allah you know before we were Muslim we used to count sheep people used to count sheep to go to sleep count Allah’s names count Allah’s names send send prayers and blessings on Prophet Muhammad s alai wasallam fall
Asleep saying salawat on the prophet s just over and over again however long it takes you know fall asleep reading a book about Prophet Muhammad and I just you know discovered this book a few years ago and I if you have not read it if you all have not read this book it’s
It’s it’s an amazing book it’s called Sultan of the hearts amazing book about Prophet Muhammad s Ali wasallam written by a Turkish scholar it is full of so much love and it is based on authentic sources alhamdulillah it is a great book it’s one of the best books I’ve read in

Supervisor talk to your manager and you know find that quiet place at work or or not so quiet place but just pray like I used to I remember I used to work at Lowe’s y’all know Lowe’s right Home Depot Lowe’s right I would pray in the break room and some sometimes it was
Quiet sometimes it was loud but people will begin to respect you when they see that you’re about whatever it’s you say you believe in and so don’t delay your and also till you get home people do that sometimes right because they don’t feel comfortable praying at work um you know if you’re
Out at the movies or if you’re out at the park or you know when it’s time to pray Take 5 10 15 minutes go make wulu and pray don’t pray in your car unless you’re afraid for your safety right pray in you know sometimes

Clothes in there right so you don’t look like you know you’re up to something and pray my daughter’s laughing cuz she knows that’s what we do sometimes and pray so don’t don’t miss your prayer because you’re shopping don’t miss your prayer because you’re at work don’t miss
Your prayer because you’re going to go watch your movie you know step out of the theater and and and and and commune with Allah may Allah T give us success to fulfill the rights of Islam may Allah give us success to guard God to guard God’s Commandments and so
That we are guarded so that we’re safe Allah to help us to be people of safety we don’t just need safe spaces right there we talk a lot about safe spaces we need safe people may Allah make us people that are safe may Allah make our
Tongues and our our arms and our legs and our ears and our eyes eyes limbs that are safe where people feel safe around us us because it is only when people feel safe that you can they’ll give you they can be fully present and we have you know I I I often
Say that Islam and the modern world for many people is is very it’s disembodied it’s a disembodied Islam we’re not fully present we don’t we don’t give our our our full selves but that you know I don’t blame I don’t blame people many of us don’t feel safe we don’t feel safe at
The mosque we don’t feel safe around other Muslims some of us feel safer around our non-muslim friends and co-workers than we feel around Muslims we don’t feel safe around our parents and many of us especially our sisters you know sadly don’t feel safe around Muslim Scholars or Muslim
Religious leaders because of the the Betrayal of trust uh that’s happened again and again and again and again so may Allah tal heal us may Allah heal our communities may Allah repair our relationships and may Allah accept this course and this class and may Allah in
This month of R give us dreams of prophet Muhammad s alhi wasallam give us visions of him may Allah uh give us success to fill our waking moments during this month of RAB with reciting the Quran mentioning Allah’s names sending blessings and peace salwat and on Prophet Muhammad sallu alhi wasallam
In this month of R may Allah help us to revisit and revise uh and read his his biography and his uh Hadith about his personality and his unique traits and qualities I’m looking forward to any questions any comments Alum while the questions pour in we did have a question earlier
On um from last week’s Hadith which is this week alhamdulillah about the significance of the Gaze of prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaih wasallam I think this might be something you talked about last week I’m sorry could you say that one more time the significance of the gay of prophet Muhammad s
Al that’s someone who was reading ahead beautiful Allah Allah um the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam so sh jaf uh he talks about the importance of the rights of prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam and he he mentions one of those rights being going to visit him in Medina the his illuminated City his
Radian City and that one of the benefits of visiting him and giving him Salam you know giving him peace greeting him with peace in um in Medina is that he gazes upon you and the Gaze the no of the Prophet sallallahu alai wasallam is something that his companions cherished and longed
For and his gaze is a healing listen to me very carefully Imad may Allah have mercy upon him one of our greatest Scholars uh he was from Southern Yemen and uh one of the great uh sages and and knowers through God of the balawi family that spread Islam to a
Third of the Muslim world do yall hear me this is one family that spread Islam to a third of the Muslim World IM is a part of that family Muslims in Tanzania Muslims in Kenya Muslims in Yemen in Saudi Arabia in Singapore Malaysia Indonesia you know Southern India you
Know and and many many many other places ilu of course absolutely ilu uh they all received Islam from this illustrious uh family of descendants of prophet Muhammad s Ali wasallam and Scholars and Saints and he says he has this beautiful Song oh Allah a gaze a gaze from a merciful eye that will heal me of all of my illnesses right and so the The Gaze of the Prophet sallallahu alhi wasallam is a means for healing it is a means it is a medicine it is a great great great
Uh door to the Gaze of Allah right because the prophet when he looks at you when you go to Medina and he’s in his grave he’s alive in his grave we we have to know this right he said about the other prophets you the prophets are alive praying in
Their graves it’s one of theith that she salid mentions in this uh collection okay and uh so he’s alive in his grave you’re not visiting a corpse you’re visiting a Living spirit Sall alai wasallam and when he gazes upon you he’s gazing upon you with the eyes of his spirit that
Gazed upon Allah subhana wa tala on the night journey and the me of ascent on the night of is and so brothers and sisters there is a there again there’s a transformation that happens inside you and me when he gazes upon you and to be present when you go visit him you should
Be present that when you say and he’s returning that and he’s gazing upon you that your that that your heart is not the same heart anymore you know so many companions you know Subhan Allah talk about what the Gaze of the Prophet did to them and how
It took away all their illnesses all the all the darkness all the sickness all their worries when he gazes upon so may Allah make us the objects of the Gaze of the Prophet Sall alaih wasallam uh sister I just Al I want to invite uh I
Was looking at the the comments and I just noticed that Sheik Ahmed wanted to add a few words and U or or or many words however many words or a few you want to add is with me uh so we I just before we go to other question yeah of course please go
Ahead um I just uh I thought we were may have gotten a little further I but I don’t want to really preempt some of the discussion but uh Muhammad asked about this Hadith he asked me in city leavon if this was the most important Hadith of this collect
Ction and I just wanted to affirm that this is a central Hadith of the methodology of shik overall his his whole methodology is centered in this Hadith uh and the only other themes that you would notice from the Hadith that’s been read so far and that’s to come is
Also what the Imam just mentioned as well is that the life not just of the ambah but the life of the righteous uh after they pass so those are the themes of of shik and his methodology is a connection to Ras Alam and and as the shik
Said for a person like myself came to Islam and uh here in the states amongst sunnis we don’t speak enough about the alate uh very few know anything about alate and and to be honest it was uh my exposure to shik that made me want to
Deepen my exposure to aate um Beyond you know just some the generic if you will um so I wanted to say that that is extremely important and sh’s methodology and connecting to the prophet Sall alai wasam and uh also returns to what the IM started with is that Joy is by the
Praise of the prophet sallallah alaihi wasallam and the aate through the Poetry through the med uh and I’m going to share a few links in the chat so I don’t won’t have to speak long you can read certain things that I summarizes what I want to say but the
Shortcut that shik s found in his methodology is praising uh obviously we need knowledge we have to to study the lives of the Prophet the life of the Prophet The Life lives of the alate we also have to of course follow the Sunnah try to be Pious but his
Shortcut of attaching your heart to them is by singing their praises and he composed several epic poems in Praise of ah and I’ll link those in the chat those are two of the links on the in one is called the bord hassia or husia uh is he called it the
Borda because he wrote it on the same meter and style as the borda uh of Imam busiri uh but it’s all in Praise of alab and he did another poem called the gladdening of the hearts and shik S had a a real deep spiritual connection to alate uh especially Imam
Hussein and and I will read just a short incident that he had with with Imam Hussein he said I entered the Mak of my master Al Hussein and stood in the direction of the K and said yesterday I came here but I did not find you to
Which our Master Al Hussein replied I am here for you oh lovers of alate I am here for you I’m watching you when you leave the first row and position of the Imam of the noble AAR and come here to me yesterday when you came to me you had
Something inside your heart and it was anger and sadness so his connection with IM Hussein he it wasn’t like the IM said of visiting s alh wasallam these aren’t this isn’t an interaction of a living person on this side talking to a dead person it’s actually more likely the
Opposite the living is on the other side and we’re trying to come alive by visiting them and then he said I stood in front of my master feeling very shy because I have made him angry at that moment Allah most high inspired me and I addressed my M Hussein saying by the
Noble virtues of your grandfather and the media the poems of Praise of your grandfather sallallah alaih wasallam I live in safety in this world and the Hereafter I repeated this three times even though I have memorized the entire Quran shali was a he memorized bukari and Muslim and other books detailing the
Prophetic sunah and made Haj many many times I only spoke of the Mi when I repeated this for the third time my M Hussein hugged me to his chest and said aan then shik s said I made a pledge to myself that I would never leave the med of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi
Wasallam The Med brings us Safety and Security in this life and from the horrors of the resurrection and the Hereafter so that’s what I wanted to share uh it comes up in the commentary a little bit about visiting the alphabate and like I said I don’t want to be along
I just send some links in the group that speaks on some of the benefits of visiting the Maks and the likes that you receive and the the answering of your Dua and these connections have to become realized for us um and and and it starts with these praises and then inshallah our hearts
Become inflamed with the love of the Prophet sallu Ali wasallam and for give me a few moments a mean a mean a mean mallah thank you very much may Allah reward you with goodness shik Ahmed for sharing that those beautiful and profound lessons and insights and may
Allah connect us with the med the the praise poetry Med means praise poetry brothers and sisters so may Allah t connect us with the Deep tradition of Praise poetry of prophet Muhammad s alaihi wasallam that you find in Arabic you find it in U you find it in Spanish
In English now and Swahili and Chinese and Javanese and Malay and fari and Turkish I mean it’s all over the Muslim world right uh and Al Jafari Mah he uh left a treasure Trove 12 volumes 12 volumes s of praise poetry and and I I I can I know so many people
Who’ve uh really experienced spiritual openings and and spiritual connection with Allah with Prophet Muhammad s alaihi wasallam and with his family and his companions through reciting the praise poetry of shik so it is very it’s very potent it’s very potent so thank you again she alhamdulillah so sister am I’m going to
Pass it back to you as the moderator thank you sh thank you both we have um sunna you have your hand raised if you want to unmute and if you had a question yes you’re muted again uh sister there um my question kind of follows um she ahmed’s um idea about how do
We how do we be safe Muslims with our tongues and our hands but also with our hearts um I recently came across um a verse in the Quran that was talking about um that sometimes people and I’m paraphrasing sometimes people believe that they that they are of the in the in
The world like that they are doing good in the world but sometimes they’re they’re not they’re actually causing more harm and um and it really it really struck my heart and then I wondered like well wow um why did I feel that so deeply and
And it made me reflect a little bit um on in what ways do we um as much as my my conscious intention is is to be of the and to do good in the world but um how much am I not conscious of and I feel like sometimes when my heart is uh
Burdened or heavy or I’m just it’s that time of the month I tend to just Retreat so that I could avoid people and avoid being in situations where I can’t control my tongue or I or I project onto people things from my heart um and um but then I realized that
Sometimes even that even the retreating and not showing up um sometimes also hurts people and that I Retreat too much um and not uh have harsh conversations or um or or have just um yeah and even even sometimes retreating can be harmful to people and I I realized that
Um and so it’s a really hard balance to strike like yes I’m not physically hurting anybody I’m not um talking behind anybody’s back about in what ways there’s my heart like is the heart considered a limb that could do harm and and and how we how we perceive people and how we
Project on to people our things and and how do we have enough awareness of of that fine line between what are we reflecting and what are we projecting and um yeah it’s still still kind of something I’m I’m trying to figure out I would love to hear your insights alhamdulillah thank you sister
Sunna uh your question is the question really it’s it’s one of the most important questions that needs to be asked and I’ll start by saying after that a person can only be free from harming other others with their heart uh with their mind with their thoughts with their
Perceptions when they re return to their original nature to their F to their uh primordial uh innocence and original Purity and this is the state that we’re all born in right uh Prophet Muhammad God bless him and Grant him peace said that every infant is born upon a state of original
Purity and as we know you know as as you know when you were a young girl um uh when we were young children boys and girls uh those of you who have children when we’re we when we’re infants when we’re toddlers um we don’t have this
Um you know animus you know we don’t have uh ill feeling towards others we are uh without you know hatred and uh anger or you know projection on onto others these are all things that we learn so what’s the path to restoring the F now the F what we should understand is
That the the masters of the spiritual path people like shik Al Jafari right uh those who have passed and those who are contemporary with us they teach that it is possible for to return back to your F and actually this is what Islam is all about you know all
Of the rulings all the regulations all the guidance all the guard line all the guide guidelines and guard rails of Islam are meant to bring you back to your F that F that you possessed as a child is to return you to that original nature as an
Adult right this is the path so that you you are an adult with your knowledge with your wisdom uh with your experiences but your heart is in this state of complete uh Detachment from any unsafe thoughts and feelings about yourself and I would say sister Sunnah
You know the first step for that that that many of us need to take is to be safe to ourselves many of us are um um we still haven’t learned how to be safe to ourselves and if you’re not safe with yourself um then if you’re not if you’re not nonviolent with
Yourself uh then it’s very difficult to be that way with others so what’s the way right what’s the way to get to that uh very simply the way is of Allah is mentioning God’s names and and VI uh mentioning God’s names is a path
It is a discipline it is a it is a methodology it is a commitment and uh if you have a teacher and by teacher I mean a spiritual teacher and then the most important VI for you to do are the Vick the the thear that your teacher prescribes to you because it’s like
Medicine it’s like medicine to do those Vickers um with the etiquette uh and in the and in the way that your teacher um administers them and if you don’t have a teacher right then know that the Quran and the the prophet Muhammad s alam’s recorded uh you know statements and actions and his
Allowances are sufficient for you uh as a as a teacher until you are guided to a living Master male or female or a living Master is guided to you right and so doing reciting the Quran Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam said that recitation of the Quran polishes the heart
Because the heart rusts right there’s there’s spiritual oxidation right the heart rusts and so the Quran reading the Quran uh listening to the Quran in Arabic particularly it it polishes the heart and I would add listening to it with the that intention of healing not just listening to the Quran
Or reading it for Hass for Good Deeds but for healing uh secondly doing thear that are mentioned by Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam and there’s a really great book by IMI called The Book of remembrances like that it it’s basically a manual for Vi um the path of Vick is very important
Uh I would add getting up at night for even if you just pray even if you just get up in you know 10 minutes 20 minutes before F and pray if you do that consistently your heart will be illuminated you will become spiritually enlightened you will be healed you
Will gradually be restored to your F and that’s that’s the answer in a nutshell uh there are other ways to this integration because what we’re talking about to use a a psychological word is integration right so how do we integrate or individuate the self of the human being with their
Spirit right and their body the ego you know and want to use you know again just borrow some words from psychology how do you integrate the ego and the ID right and the super ID how do you bring those together uh how do you have toed this
Oneness of Body Mind Soul and Spirit this is how you do it is ultimately through VI now the vi will slowly and and safely and gradually take you on a journey towards yakim this is what uh my teacher Sheik Imam f j uh teaches and uh this is what I teach following
Him will lead eventually there are steps right there’s steps sister Sunnah um but there’s there’s actually five steps right but it starts with and it ends with which is another way of saying it ends with CER ude with certainty and Allah says humbly adore your loving Lord until spiritual certainty comes to you
Now what is spiritual certainty spiritual certainty is when now you return your to your F to your original nature and and the seen and the Unseen worlds become one in your perception you’re not veiled you’re not veiled from the seen by the Unseen and you’re not veiled by the by
The Unseen from the seen right and this gives you a perception it gives you a lens and it and it and your faculties um are refined and elevated and by extension once you begin to see things as they truly are right not through our limited cultural and sensorial uh biases and perceptions but
When we begin to see things through the light of Allah our relationships change right and then so we’re not trying to you know as you talked about you know retreating right and there’s a balance right there’s the beautiful thing about Islam uh sister sunna is it it there are times when we’re supposed
To be with Community with family even sometimes when it’s mandatory right but then there are also times when Solitude is encouraged and uh you mention you know that time of the month and for women you know this is something I talk about as a Youtube video um I think it’s
Still on YouTube I don’t know but it was called Islam and the liberation of Womanhood I don’t know if it’s still out there but um you know I spoke it it was actually a 3our lecture I gave uh impromptu um after hours after Isa at one of the AL maasi Retreats some years
Ago but I think all they have is an hour but but women need to know their Cycles in a deep way most women don’t know their Cycles I’m not talking about their period I’m talking about their cycle and the cycle is 28 to 32 days uh and a woman
Goes through uh es and flows of hormones and emotions and and spiritual um uh awareness and uh a woman is it’s you know that that that cycle is connected to the moon and that cycle is like one of the scholars he’s a Maliki scholar who wrote a commentary on this Maliki primer
Called those of you who study Malik are familiar with it uh and he mentions in his commentary that the the the menstrual cycle uh is shared by just a few mammals and it is a shff it is an honor it is nobility that for women to experience it it is not
Something uh dirty it is not something they should be ashamed of it is not is not it is not uh something that distances them from Allah rather when a woman is experiencing her cycle uh her body is shedding that which it does not need and my
Teachers uh they they taught me that a woman when her body is shedding the lining of the U uteral the the the wall of her uterus that a woman should also be doing the spiritual work of shedding the things from her heart and her mind that she doesn’t need
Right they go hand in hand right very deep and I don’t have time that’s actually that’s a whole another course right and there’s a few sisters who I’m going to mention who are really you know and I’m a man and I I can only teach you know so much that I’ve heard
From my teachers about this and from women uh who I love and respect and admire about this um but women that you should talk to uh or learn from about about the the sacredness and the nobility of a woman’s monthly cycle uh are must Shantel Blake right and she’s
Done a few online Retreats maybe even some in-person Retreats uh before co uh about the womb and restoring the womb right uh uh Mona hayar right who’s also a hip-hop artist you know good you know both of them are very good family friends of me and my wife
Mona and um and then also uh our dear sister The Village ATI Angelica Linds Ali right so these three women or some of the women that I know who’ve really you know mallah they’ve given this a lot of attention they’re teaching a lot of young women and Elder women about their
Bodies their minds their souls and and and really how to how to um because you know yes Retreat is important but what are you doing in the retreat right sister sunna like this is this is something that is also a part of the healing process what are we doing in the
Retreat so it’s not just about avoiding people so that we don’t harm them or project on them but what is the work what is the heart work that we’re doing and you know I spend as as some of you know you know I I spent some time in the company of Native
American uh teachers and elders and for them Subhan Allah they have very similar uh attitudes and beliefs about the about the the cycle the women’s the woman’s cycle uh it’s a very sacred time they actually have what they call Moon lodges anyone heard of this they have Moon
Lodges where you know women who or on their cycle they keep company with one another right because women you know generally uh when they’re on their cycle they they sink up right their Cycles kind of match each other um and Powerful things happen when you have a community
Of of younger women older women even some of the Elder women who are menopausal and postmenopausal they all come together during that time they serve each other they sleep together they pray together they they cry to God together uh and many of them have the same dreams this really powerful stuff
Right their bodies not only sink their dream they start dreaming the same dreams and then they discuss and they learn from each other they story tell they share wisdom that have been passed down from mother to daughter mother to daughter mother to daughter over thousands and thousands of years the
Collective wisdom in these communities so uh I hope hope that uh Muslims especially Muslim women uh we begin to learn what what our tradition says about uh these cycles and about restoring the F uh because the womb right restores itself every month to do what to receive
Life right to receive Spirit right so there’s a deep lesson in this it’s not just about the womb it’s also about the soul all right so there’s this there’s this regenerative power uh that women’s bodies have and uh for too long we’ve ignored this in the Muslim Community and
We have our own tradition and and you can talk to Shantel monar like they’ve learned this from their women from women Muslim Scholars it’s very powerful and it’s really incredible so hopefully some of you uh reach out to them and and you spread this among the women women in
Your in your neighborhoods in your communities sister am you still there that was great thank you sister s for asking the question thank you she mandz for the Deep dive um okay well I don’t see any more questions uh I know it’s getting late but if anyone has like
