Anyway so for today’s video I thought I would take a trip down memory lane all right whoo these memories might get dark because this is a dark period of time for me dark period of time for me hello words hi I want to talk about my experience in Greek life I rushed a
Sorority and I got in one and I stayed in it for oh my god how long was that freshman year two years three years three years hello I was in my freshman year in my sophomore year so it’s two years and my so I went through recruitment and I went through training
To recruit other girls for polish week or whatever you want to call it but this is not gonna be a video exposing all the issues I have with the Greek life in general because I’m not gonna go into that it’s everybody’s job to you know make a decision that benefits them you
Shouldn’t take some random girl on the Internet’s word for whether or not you should rush that’s your personal opinion your choice okay for me my parents didn’t go to college so they weren’t in Greek life obviously so I didn’t really know what it was or what it was like my
Parents encouraged me to do it because I said it would help you make connections so I rushed rush so I rushed my freshman year and I just I I just want to go through some of the memories I have that our PEAC sorority experienced top of the line you
Know cream of the crop as some would say so here’s some of the amazing memories I’ve written down just to give you an idea of what to expect maybe every school does it differently so this is just my personal experience okay oh all right let’s just start off with a bang
Burst learning so if you’ve never rushed or have no idea what Greek life even is or what it entails basically there are different sororities and for each sorority they have a whole set of traditions okay so one of the traditions is this burst they call it which is
Basically a song kind of like a cheer if you’ve ever been a cheerleader which I was don’t know why but if you were ever a cheerleader it’s similar to a cheer but it’s a cheer for the sororities okay yeah so when you’re rushing your sorority you get let around and you’re
Okay so this is hard to explain so complex um being in authority is just like a really big deal I’m like it’s just like a really complex team and like go in do and like I’m kind of even like nervous dude I don’t know because I just
Don’t want to confed people I have no explanation for that okay so so your freshman year when you’re rushing or whenever you decide to rush you get put in a rush group with a rhogam who is basically the person that takes you from house to house and deliver see basically
And she’s also in a sorority but it’s like a secret sorority she’s in but it’s like easy to find out but don’t find out that’s wrong okay don’t do that I never did that my freshman year what are you talking about anyway so you basically
Are taken from house to house you get to a specific house in order to welcome you to the house the rogue we’ll do the burst okay meaning you’ll be sitting there in silence and all of sudden you’ll just hear way I’m trying to think of a burst that isn’t my own
Because I don’t want to like give it away which when I was in like no one cares though I’m just gonna make it my own you know I know that you know what I’m just gonna make up my own okay so play the sorority is called Kappa flam
Flu okay Kappa blue yeah so that’s what burst is okay they can range from short like that to like a whole song with a bridge a chorus a pre-chorus verse 1 verse 2 verse 3 verse 4 you know I’m saying those will really catch you off-guard if you don’t know what they
Are so I’m just letting you know that’s called it burst okay the person doing it is not suffering from a psychological break they’re actually just expressing their love for the sorority so yeah the row games will do it if you ask them to at least at our school and then another
Time you use them is when before you like go to a fad for like a party yeah not that I’ve ever done that by the way because I am under 21 and I’ve never had alcohol but hypothetically if you were to go to a frat before you go to said
Frat you would do a little cheer with like all your sisters and if you live in a sorority house and you don’t go out you will still hear the bursting from inside your room because there are so many excited women of the sorority who just want to burst their little hearts
Out anyway no shame by the way in anyone’s bursting game I respect it I’ve done way more embarrassing things in my life so I can’t even talk okay I mean I’ve a YouTube channel more embarrassing than that anyway so um nails yeah so bursting is just a thing
You just have to get used to it okay you can either just succumb to the insanity and just accept it and let it happen let it wash all over you or avoid it which is next another thing that’s kind of like a cute fun sorority memory of mine is call-outs
So when you’re rushing a sorority and you are going from house to house as I said with your rush group what happens is you guys will all get in a line and then the door will open I didn’t want to reenact the whole thing this is really like it’s really visceral
You have to really get into it okay ready so you’re sitting at the door right you like this right and then all of a sudden a girl a beautiful girl with like curled hair and like a perfectly chosen dress okay that matches everybody else’s dresses will kind of the door like this
Hi I’m Rebecca and welcome to Kappa from man and then the next girl will come out and I’m the vice president of Kappa program welcome to our house meet our sisters and none of them are breaking character they’re all fully and I know because I’ve had to do it okay so I
Can’t even be sitting there making fun of it cuz I’ve done it myself okay and there’s no shame in their game you know they’re just doing their thing that’s what they do then they’ll stand at the doors are so stayed out and then do all the sorority members will come out okay
They’ll start filing out they’ll go one by one to the door you can’t step over the line okay if you step over the line at the door you actually get fined fun fact I don’t know how it is at all schools but you can’t step out of the
Line there’s a lot of rules about this everything is very structured and planned so just understand that they actually work really hard at it so like it’s weird but kind of respected like it’s kind they spend hours working on it basically is what I’m trying to say and I’ve been
A part of that and I know how brutal it is so it’s all I have to say so yeah they’ll come out and they do a call-out which again is practiced many times where you come out and you say hmm depending on the day you say like a nice
Fun catchphrase or like a pick-up line do you know what I’m say just follow along I know this is very confusing if you’ve never heard of this okay so let’s say the girl I’m assigned to talk to you for the beginning of rush her name is tur turn okay her name is
Turkey so I’m gonna do this I’m gonna first I’m gonna walk out to the to the in between the doors to the open door frame I’m gonna walk out hit my mark siyul are you Tennessee Turkey cuz you’re the only ten I come on in then Turkey will come in you’ll shake her
Hand goes like hi so nice to meet you oh my gosh I love your dress walk in oh that was scary by the way how easily that just flowed out of me walk her in and then sit down and start talking like having a little calm conversation like a little just a chat
You don’t think my sorority girl it’s like leaping out of my soul I’m so sorry it has to be caught on camera yeah I think you guys will have a little fun chat being on either side of call outs is not a fun experience let me just say
That okay when I was going through recruitment no matter what house it’s not like a this house sucks a type of thing that’s not what I’m saying I’m saying that call-outs are just super traditional I guess that’s why they keep doing it but they make everyone uncomfortable the girls doing it are
Uncomfortable and the girls on the other side they are uncomfortable like I remember when I was a freshman and I was doing it I went to every house whatever they would do that suck and then I just walk in hi and then it would snap but yeah
Being on the other side of it having to do it is not fun because one it’s kind of nerve-wracking to like go up in front of a bunch of people and like say something really cringey and embarrassing and then have to talk to the person that you just kind of made
Feel weird because you used a pick-up line on them and then ask them to come inside your house I don’t know there’s no harm maintenance oh no she call-outs are just the most bizarre thing okay when I was on the other side of it having to do it we would rehearse it for
Long periods of time hours I’m talking nights after night so not to say that that makes it any less weird or any more okay to do but just keep that in mind okay the girls on the other side of it are nervous and have practiced a lot and
Are scared of messing up and are probably more nervous than you so if you are watching this video because you are nervous about recruitment just know that literally you have no reason to be nervous um it’s really not that big of a deal like it’s really not the girls on
The other side of they are nervous as long as you know how to talk you’re gonna be fun and honestly I don’t even want to get into this because I don’t want to like be negative about it but it’s so mmm so much of it is superficial
And the houses that reject do already from the houses you want to be in to begin with I’m just gonna leave it at that because I could go on and on and on and rip everyone to shreds but anyway so yes callouts weird hello so weird who
Says we have to keep doing that I mean they not me I’m not still in it but like sometimes I feel like I am so next oh yeah hmm hug it again honking and saying goodbye actually no let’s go in order let’s go in order I’ll get to hugging in
A second I know that just made you excited calm down sit down sit down Jesus I’m gonna get there um let’s go in order of how it will be when you’re experiencing it so it’s gonna start with bursting and the call-outs and then there’s gonna be a little fun thing
Called rotations and bouncing okay so once you get into the house and you’re talking to a girl you guys are gonna be sitting there having a conversation a really natural conversation and you’re just gonna talk about you know whatever just be yourself seriously I know it’s hard because a lot of like
High energy gets thrown at you but really try to like be true to how you actually are instead of like feeling like you need to be super fake and be like raise my voice up three octaves and like talk about your shoes but like talk
About how much I just love rice I don’t know why I said rice that doesn’t even like make sense to the stereotype I was trying to go for but whatever yeah just you know try to be yourself that’s really all I have to say don’t try to be
Like them because you want to be like that more because you think they are superior because of what you’ve heard like oh that’s the top house or whatever whatever cuz you can fake your way into a house like that but once you get in you’re not gonna be happy and you’re not
Gonna get along with the girls and then that just waste your money and your time and all of that so anyway but that’s a different story um yeah so you get in there right and a girl’s talking to you and you’re talking about whatever you can talk about your
High school experience you could talk about whatever you want there are things are not supposed to talk about but like I won’t expose that then before you know it there’s gonna be another girl there’s gonna be another girl all of a sudden sitting there you’ll be talking to one girl oh my gosh
Yeah so in high school I actually was I’m cheer was kind of cool I was like the captain oh my gosh that’s really cool yeah I was actually on tier two yeah I was a fire yeah I was a fly oh yeah I was pretty
Fun oh my god here and all of a sudden we’ll just see this third person trying to barge in on your convo do you know I’m saying they’ll be like hi I’m Jamel nice to meet you yeah hi oh you guys don’t have much cheer i love cheer and
Then the two girls in the sorority will switch places oh my god it’s like cheer a and then you’re like you’re not yeah a Sigma Chi really cool there’s a little swap a room that happens and it’s hard to make fluid okay I know cuz I had to
Do it it’s challenging to make fluid and it is not fluid because that’s not a fluid thing that ever happens in life and why am I saying fluid so many times oh because it’s just an unnatural thing that anybody does in conversation nobody just like switches cuz then you kind of
Get like emotionally attached to one person and then really ripped away from you and then you’re like who are you I mean I guess guess my vibe but now but like I’m the other girl where’d she gone did she go upstairs it makes you feel a little bit naked all of
A sudden cuz you’re like no but just know that that’s supposed to happen and that’s been planned has nothing to do with one girl was bored of listening to talk until they switched it’s like a pre-planned when I was getting trained to do it it was really hard actually and
You have to like remember what spots are gonna go to and just give them some slack because it’s hard for them okay even though it’s the most unnatural and cringy thing in the world still hard and it takes effort to learn okay wow I really thought I was gonna be out here
Roasting the sorority but I’m actually containing all the negativity and actually just defending them a lot so if anything you guys just like close this on your website I don’t know what they’re saying what they’re saying oh yeah when you’re looking for your place to switch if that make sense like your
Place to meet the person you’re supposed to switch within the conversation you have to walk around the house like this with your hands behind your back and smile and walk like this it’s like being a Disney princess but you don’t get paid and you don’t have a costume
And you want to impress the frat boy yeah so it’s just uncomfortable for everyone to be honest with you and just accept it accept that uncomfortableness it’s really something you want and it’s like really something you want to do seriously then just yeah it’s awkward for everyone
Don’t worry about it okay so this brings me back to everybody’s most requested topic I know you guys calm down that’s hugging I will never forget when I was getting ready for recruitment we got had a packet and I opened it and one of the bullet points was actually
Hugging and I just went wow this yeah there are rules about hugging and about what you can say to girls when you leave I don’t really want to get into specifics I don’t want to get anyone in trouble but basically you can’t step over the line at the door when you’re
Hugging someone so if you’re a new person going into recruitment don’t like hugs and drag them out I don’t think I ever hugged anyone ever because I was like I don’t know you everyone’s being all like oh my god scissoring I’m like a grown man meeting another grown man I’m like hey
What’s up man how are you you good good I say that but I was actually kind of a star during a I’m not gonna be a star doing recruitment so like I was a star when I’m faced with something really embarrassing or cringing be cringing cringy because of acting I’ve just
Learned to lean into it and just like go even harder so I would go to the door and I’d like Jamie yeah I love you yeah so all I really have to say about hugging is that it’s not necessary if you’re going through recruitment don’t
Let anyone be like oh my god one of that girls one of those girls hugged me I’m totally getting into the house if she said that be like whoa Chloe from YouTube told me that hugs don’t guarantee a spot into the house so the goodbyes are always awkward too because
When you’re on the other side of it you know you have to start leading the girl out and sometimes you’re like mid-conversation so you’re like oh my god you love pasta I love pasta oh my god okay to get up one second and the girls won’t be like pasta oh where are
We going yeah pasta I’m gonna pasta yes I mean that and then you have to guide them to the door and then at the door both of you are like kind of talking still you’re both like oh my god and then my dog like my dog is so good I have a talk
To you all that’s so funny I don’t get a dog it’s like old and kind of thick and she’s squishy okay bye hug it’s a nice people going for the shake sometimes people going for they it’s just an awkward thing okay it’s awkward to have to walk someone out while they’re trying
To talk to you it’s awkward to have to walk out while you’re trying to talk to someone and both sides of trying to get the other person to impress each other so it’s just awkward okay I admit it and accept it you say your goodbyes and then
The door closes to the sorority house once again the girls were like the door closes and then you get to all relax and stop being fake anyway that is just some of my most gruesome memories from being in a sorority rushing a sorority and being on the other side of recruitment
Recruiting girls so yeah that’s all I have to say I’m not currently in my sorority I dropped a while ago so but that’s just my personal experience if this is something that you think is cool and you should do it and not care what anybody says I’m not encouraging you to
