Than close close C what All Uniform Personnel order on please be seated I’d like to invite Scottdale Fire Department chief Tom Shannon and local 50-50 president Captain Sasha Weller good afternoon thank you for the opportunity to speak to you today on behalf of the city of Scottsdale our mayor and Council
Who are in attendance today our city manager Jim Thompson City staff and the men and women of the Scottdale Fire Department we are so sad for your loss to Ashley Hudson Grace Paisley brenley our beloved chaplain Mark Mary Beth Kevin and the entire Ule family we are
So sorry for the pain that only you know I hope the words today spoken and the presence of the hundreds of attendees today in fact I hope the fire department doesn’t find out about the occupancy load in the building today I hope you are uh saged by the words
Spoken today I’ve been preoccupied by two words for the last 10 days heroism and presumption I am blessed to have a front row seat to the heroism every day seeing in the Scottsdale Fire Department and it got me thinking a lot about what makes a hero well it turns out there’s some
Process to it some order to it what is in the hero’s journey it begins and ends in the hero’s Ordinary World but the quest passes through an unfamiliar special existence in a cyclical repetitious way if you will a hero receives a message an invitation a challenge or calling Corey’s invitation or calling
Was to help others to make a difference in people’s lives every day for those he served and those he served with a hero needs assistance the hero needs help mentorship guidance from others Corey represented the best of those he sought to emulate his parents Mark and Mary
Beth his brother Kevin his dear friends Chris ffield Jim Kars Adam Bowman John Anderson and his Scottsdale Fire Department brothers and sisters in Dutch Matt Kelly and Christian and so so many more he was a courageous skilled competitive and mostly important caring person he cared for those around him with great authenticity and
Genuiness he was that leader in the locker room who without saying anything could calm or excite those he led the hero will depart Across the Threshold from his normal safe existence into action Corey did that over 11,000 times for the Scottsdale Fire Department and the citizens he did that to care to
Help he rode into uncertainty with his comrades nearly all in attendance today the hero’s trial and approach will vary depending on the call for help Corey was so skilled in so many ways in the fire service he was certain to choose the right method at the right time with the
Right intensity to make things better for those he served to help Heroes face crisis their Darkest Hour where even he fa faces enormous struggle extreme risk and may even perish Corey faced this many times in the fire service life he faced adversity as every human does with
The resolve and tenacity of a fighter this is where the other word that has been on my mind presumption comes comes into play it seems to me that it Finds Its great greatest meaning here in that you see and as you will hear as honor guard Commander Captain Ambrosia presides over
The final honors the American fire service is confronted with many dangers some ancient but some new but all anchored in the presumption that someone needs help and those in crisis need someone and that someone was Cory over 11,000 times Corey answered that call alongside his brothers and sisters who were
Presumed would respond I share with the troops frequently that this presumption that we come and help no matter what their need is the essence of our calling Corey exemplified that every day it is presumed he would Place himself In Harm’s Way to save the savable what was not presumed was that
In doing so in surviving the incident that there would be a legacy to the danger it is only because of the heroes amongst us who ensured that any lasting consequences to serving as a firefighter are presumed to be the cause of illness like senator Paul borer Senator Heather
Carter rali Shukla Kea Jack and the professional firefighters of Arizona that those dangers the Unseen but impactful consequences of pres those presumed dangers could be lessened the hero is presumed to receive some form of treasure upon completing their Duty I refer to this as the juice
That those in the fire service count on as a payment for their sacrifice that juice the visceral feeling of excitement and satisfaction derived from stopping the bad thing from happening the juice of having done it alongside his teammates the juice of having done it well the juice of knowing that in some
Small or large way he or she has made a difference in someone’s life the juice is in every call for service Corey was powered by that juice over 11,000 times following the C the result of Crisis the new normal as Chief freeberg would call it those impacted will endure because of
The efforts of Our Heroes who exist in a new life that remembers the past honors it and on some days even smiles and laughs about it but there is a new normal for all of us there will be a new life for Corey it will be an eternity as
He waits for us all serving and supporting us all alongside the legions of firefighters who have departed before us a new life with familiar Brothers such as Bruce Carroll Steve Angulo Eddie Loggins and Bruce picket finally in the hero’s journey there’s resolution it is up to us each to
Resolve the meaning of Corey’s life in service and to honor it build on it and live for it Corey is a hero to his wife to his children to his family to the Scottdale fire department and the City of Scottdale I would like to close with the
Most meaningful poem I’ve ever heard in the fire service inspired by a Dublin firefighter named G Divine who happens to be the winner of final’s poetry competition in Ireland 2023 he’s honoring his mates living and Fallen particularly in the FDNY and on 911 by writing this poem I’ve modified
It just slightly for Corey it’s called the fire firefighters call it’s not for fame or fortune that most deem necessary no I invest to Dawn a crest for work less ordinary nor it be it want of metals cap or polished shoes but a calling to help others who have everything to
Lose to face hell’s dancing angels and suppress them with each stride to search resolve from deep within as loved ones weep outside to stand with pride and dignity as comrades we remember be it pipes laments that fill sad air our silence in September and may those names that have
Been etched in brass or Granite Stone haunt me in the darkness so that I never fight alone and if a colleague’s head hangs low from tasting tragedy let me offer up my shoulder for them to Lean on Me but when Amazing Grace is played alas
For none but me lower the flag but raise a glass for I’m not far from thee I’m gathered with the Old Flames looking down from God’s Great height on call if a be needed to join you in the fight God bless coru good afternoon um I’m GNA talk a little bit
About Corey the firefighter as I knew him uh for firefighters please translate because some of the stuff that I’m going to speak about is uh fire service esque if you’re not a firefighter ask a firefighter nearby you um they’ll help you out um I promise it’s going to be PG-13
Pastor uh and there might be a little bit of explanation needed uh I’ll I’ll I’ll do what I can with it uh I had the honor of working with Corey uh for many years he came to work for me at uh engine 21 in about 2004 uh and then uh we we worked
Together briefly there uh then he came to work for me on ladder 604 in 2006 uh and then ultimately followed me to engine 612 in 2007 excuse me um and that’s really where our relationship blossomed um we had a fantastic crew that worked really really well together um we had
Great support from a battalion chief uh J de Cody uh add one rule make sure the mirrors are always clean when I come into the station um for those of you know Jay know exactly what I’m talking about um and When Corey first came to work for me um we had many discussions
About expectations um one of which was that um something that was passed on uh to me from my captains when I was a firefighter that a fire should always go out with its first line um and it should always go out in the room of origin and that really fed Cory’s
Competitive nature he liked the idea that we’re going to go fight fire very aggressively on that truck he liked the idea of knowing what was going on he liked the idea um mostly that he was going to be able to beat the next company in um and he cherished that so
Um that kind of uh mentality really really uh spoke to wh him who he was right it spoke to his his great sense of humor um his competitive nature his grittiness his toughness um all that um and what ultimately lovingly became known um as the Ule
Sass uh term coined by by Matt Perry so um Thanksgiving 2010 uh we were working together and about 10:00 in the morning um we got punched out on a house fire um we’d work together uh our entire crew Corey Kelly Taran and myself we’d uh worked together for
Probably five six years together by that time um and so we knew how we were going to react we knew how each other were going to work together um everybody knew their job very very well engine 601 um was out on a call pretty sure there at 1475 North Granite
Reef um and engine 602 is going to be second in and this is a pretty bread andb butter house fire this a 1700 foot Ranch House South of Scott in South Scottsdale um if you’ve ever worked south of of Osborne you know the exact house that I’m talking about um so we’re
Making our plan as we head to the fire and um Corey’s going to pull a line and taran’s going to grab some cool some tools there’s a plug right down the street Kelly’s going to grab that and I’m going to give an unseen report and Cory’s pretty pumped up about the idea
That um he’s going to put this fire out pretty much all by himself what he was acutely aware of was that engine 602 was going to be second in and he kept asking me how far out of 602 and at the time they were seven minutes out um and so he was pretty
Excited that he was going to have five minutes on scene without engine 602 what you have to know about engine 602 was that Cory’s Academy brother U now deputy chief Annie McDonald was sitting backwards on that truck and there’s just no way that Cory’s going to let Andy have any part of this
Fire so we get on scene everybody starts doing their thing Cy goes to pull a line Kelly’s grabbing a supply and taran’s grabbing some tools uh and I started my on scene report and about Midway through I hear this just obnoxious Clank sounds like a a giant Bell breaking um or or
Maybe a a propane tank falling so in the back of my mind I’m like well we’re going to have to deal with something propane related um um didn’t really know what was going on I finished my unseen report and I go to get out of the truck
And the homeowner standing right next to my door and she’s yelling at me he hit the pole he hit the pole he hit the hole and I don’t know what she’s talking about I said okay thank you ma’am we we’ll take care of it and I turn around
About my 4:00 and I see Corey laying in the driveway and he’s piled up in a spaghetti of hose and he’s turtled up on his back on his bottle and I apologize for the non-f firefighters but this is where start the translation will start firefighters will get this um
Most of you that aren’t firefighters are thinking wow this could be bad and As A Firefighter as I am my first inclination was to laugh at Corey and had some some sense of of of for boing but um I I get a little bit more serious because I hear this noise coming
From him and kind of like a dull moan I’m like uhoh he rung his butt Bel pretty good and then I see the steel post that’s holding the car per up and he’s tacoed it and it’s about a 4×4 post I’m like oo he hit that pretty
Hard um so as I get off the truck I get about eight or 10 feet away and I’m a little concerned because I can hear something coming from but it’s not not really making a whole lot of sense and I get about five to six feet away from him
And I can hear just over the engine revving up um something that made total sense to me and what I hear coming out of court is help me Oprah Winfrey help me Tom Cruz and so I have to respond you’re not on fire Ricky Bobby now picture that about 10 ft away
Everything is on fire um so I I know I got a really really quick time to untangle him because Kelly’s going to charge this line from the other side of the truck and as firefighters will tell you once you’re Tangled Up in a hose line you’re
Not getting out so so we untangle Cory I get him back to his knees I go look you rung your bell really really bad we’re stand next this pole that’s bent um I go once you stay here let Kelly check you out Taran and I will go in and and 602
Will be here in just a minute we’ll be good you stay out here um Cy disagreed with me um and uh he went on to uh explain to me that he disagreed with my decision um that he felt that that my tactics were poor in this uh uh in this case and and
That um he really didn’t think that by leaving him outside and letting Kelly take a look for him it really met the standard that we’d agree on about the first line in the first room um and that it was somehow a changing our aggress of
Nature um now I took about 20 25 words to say all that Cory said it in two In fairness he said it with two words he repeated it like 10 or 15 times over and over um and so I kind of felt that he met concussion
Protocol by that time um and that he was clear enough cuz he was speaking to me like you would normally speak to me so um I said okay well let’s go and so uh sure enough we went in and and um I I think what what he told me was in the
End and I I’ll leave out the the the scriptors before this but he said uh something something something no way McDonald’s putting out my Thanksgiving Day fire so we went in and and Cory did he put the fire out pretty much all by himself and um uh spent the rest of the
Day uh covered in ice bags in the day room um really proud of the idea that uh he’d beat that fire and he’d beat anny McDonald and engine 602 to doing so um as funny as some of that is it really spoke to his grit it really spoke to his
Sense of humor um the chips are down he was going to be there um many years later uh just really a couple months ago um some of the basic same tenants the different fight he was in the fight of his life um excuse me I believe it was right before right
After a stem cell transplant um and we were texting back and forth and I said you know how’s it going are are you ready for things are are you prepared um and uh I’m just going to read you the text um so he said yeah I’m good we’re having
A big meeting with the doctors at Mayo U and they’re bringing some people on from John from in from John Hopkins I told the doctors sorry I told the doctors I smoked pot with Johnny Hopkins it was me Johnny Hopkins and Sloan karing and we were blazing that
Up the doctors didn’t think I was very funny not to be clear for those of you who don’t get that that was a movie line nobody was Blazing anything up um but it spoke to the idea that that uh here he is in the fight of his life
And uh he was going to do it on his terms and he was going to be tough and he was going to be funny um and that’s what he loved about him so Cory passed 10 days ago and um we started doing what we do in the fire service and um about last
Tuesday I uh I I I felt like a a subtle almost ironic calm Beauty and it wasn’t the loss the loss sucks um but it was because everybody come together that you didn’t hear the the constant D of negative ity you didn’t hear the uh The Continuous uh disrespect and pettiness that that
Has become so normal over the past several years was just peace so um to honor Corey I asked that we try to do that for another 10 days and another 10 and another 10 and we’re going to miss some along the way um but let’s reset try to continue to do
That love you [Applause] buddy It’s a pretty good crowd for Sat and a microphone and they sit at the Sing piano sing tonight we’re all in the for a melody I’d like to invite some of Cory’s closest friends Brian Dutcher John Anderson Chris ffield as well as the Scottdale fire chaplain and Corey’s dad Pastor Mark Ule to the stage afternoon my name is Brian Dutcher and I am not a professional speaker nor a writer for that matter so please bear
With me as I try to share a little bit about Corey my relationship with Corey started in 1995 when he was a freshman in high school and I served alongside as as a small group leader at Scotts sill Bible Church or I was served alongside as Mom and
Dad I can assure all of you that Corey was just as confident and Sassy back then as you all remember him today I feel lucky and privileged to have had a front row seat to watch his relationship with God become firmly planted we became good friends over the
Years and Cory moved in with me Ryan Maguire and Matt Perry around the year 2000 the three of us were already working for departments and Corey decided he also wanted to join I don’t believe that it was us that pushed him into the fire service see Corey comes from a family of
Serving others so it was no surprise to us that he decided to serve his community in that way his career started in 2002 with rural metro and eventually transitioning over the city in 2005 he quickly proved that he was a capable and reliable firefighter he worked hard and was not afraid to give
His opinion on anything you always knew that if you asked him for advice he would give it straight to the point no sugar added but that is one of the reasons why we he was so well-liked Corey told it how it is no buttering up or beaten around the bush
He was blunt whether you wanted it or not but with a heart of gold underneath the fire service is an amazing career we got the opportunity on a daily basis to make impacts on people’s lives but it is not without its drawbacks long shifts with multiple calls after midnight high stress
Incidents missed holidays and kids events are just a few of the things that can be a drained if we have found a way to counteract this I will just call it friendly banter for those who don’t know what this is Banter is a friendly way to make
Fun of a crew member the receiver of banter will usually return it back to the sender with a good Zinger and everyone in ear shot join in this may be to lighten the moon or to remind someone that their head is getting a little too big banter at the firehouse is never
With any malice and ironically is usually sent to the ones we care about the most truck Baner can after a tough call can lighten the mood and bring things back into reality and nothing helps the soul like a good laugh but of all the people I have met that’s engaged with
This form of therapy Cory Yule was a true professional he turned banter into an art form and I’ve never had more laugh of the station listening to him send shots across the bow I worked opposite shifts to Corey a few years back at Station 2 in the kitchen is upstairs where everybody
Would gather and wait for the relief to come in I could almost guarantee that some form of his love language was coming my way as soon as I reached that TOP Step and it was usually followed with one of Cory’s classic lines and forgive me but
Bang but like I stated earlier Cory Had a Heart of Gold he truly cared about the people he worked with volunteering countless hours working on the Honor Guard team and peer support team he never wanted a Pat in the back or affirmation for his actions he did it
Out of the goodness in his heart to help others and honor the traditions of the fire service Cory will be remembered for many things but what I loved most and respected him for for was that he was a man of true character that put others before his own despite being terribly
Sick and fighting this last year he still took time to make phone calls and check up on other people and see how they were doing selfishness was never one of his traits Cory worked on multiple Crews throughout his career he was heavily recruited and everybody wanted to work
With him he had a great ability to get along with everyone a lot of fun at the station had a strong worth at at I would be here all day f a list all the people Cory worked alongside during his career and those close relationships that were formed but I would be remissed
If I didn’t mention one that one crew I know that he loved was on engine 602 alongside Matt Perry Kelly cavner and Christian McDaniel while working on that crew Cory promoted a captain in 2014 and immediately bid back to the station to stay in the mix of the busiest house in
The city leading for him was easy and his ability to to stay calm no matter how bad things got was exceptional one of his many onliners was full Panic Corey would tell me about a call or fire that he was on and that he went full
Panic but the funny thing that he never did he saw problems and quickly solved them the easiest way to put it was Cory knew his job and he did it very well now let’s see if I can get through this part Cory loved the fire service but it did not Define
Him his love for God family and friends was his priority as good a firefighter and officer Corey was it pales in a comparison to the kind of father husband brother son and friend that he was Cory you will we truly missed until we meet again rest easy brother we’ll take it from here
Good afternoon uh my name is John Anderson and I might need to raise this up a little bit nope it’s good um we’re just going to leave that alone um Cory is my best friend um much like Dutch I hate public speaking that combined with the fact that I’m going to struggle through
Getting this speech please forgive me if I tend to just read from my script those of you that know Corey would know that he would absolutely hate all of you Gathering here today for him and yet that is exactly the reason why we all love him so much he was
Selfless he also would hate my tight pants and you would surely make fun of me for wearing them so there Corey that one was for you I’ve been tasked with an impossible situation I have to try to convey to you why Corey was the greatest friend that I
Have ever known all in under eight minutes as Corey would say John show me you’re an athlete as I’ve reflected on Cory’s life these last 10 days I keep coming back to the word Joy these hundreds of pictures that are in my phone of us together the hundreds of pictures that I’ve streamed
From others it’s what I see in his face the Endless Smiles the laughter the Friendship the stories the Brotherhood The Joy what is this word Joy most importantly how do I seek it out because what I’ve come to understand is that I want more of it the dictionary defines
Joy as a feeling of great pleasure and happiness but the true definition of Joy goes beyond that simple definition in the dictionary true Joy is a limitless life-defining transformative Reservoir waiting to be tapped into it requires the utmost surrender and like love is a choice to be made I’m going to quickly
Try to explain to you how I think Corey found joy Jesus others yourself Joy I’ll say that again Jesus first others second yourself last Cory loved Jesus he was steadfast firm in his beliefs of who he was in Christ he had an unshakable Foundation that was set in stone growing up in the
Church he left it up to his dad and his brother to be the ones that preached their faith Corey chose the quiet path but make no mistake he was Christlike in his ways Corey was the spiritual leader of his family a rock that only became
More and more stable as he grew in age and wisdom I know where he is right now and it must be the most glorious sight Cory’s experiencing Joy right now a limitless life-defining transformative res are in the presence of our savior it was Cory’s dad Mark who many years ago
Helped our family through a personal tragedy when my wife’s dad was taken from us way too early on that day in the hospital Mark told us that this day will be the day of our greatest grief but it will be the day of her dad’s greatest Glory that Rings true again today our
Greatest grief is Corey’s greatest Glory what a reminder of the hope that we can have through Jesus if you are looking for joy first seek Jesus next up is others Corey put others before himself if he was your friend he showed up for me it wasn’t the one time he showed up
At a state championship game or the one time he showed up at a high school graduation Corey showed up for everything he would come to basketball games to watch me be an assistant coach and I wouldn’t even do anything my role consisted of sitting there yelling at my players from the
Bench but Cory loved it and he loved being there to support me he didn’t didn’t know any of my players and I certainly didn’t do anything that was worthy of being watched but he knew I was passionate about it and he wanted to be there for me he was my son Tyler’s
Godfather and he always showed up for him too he taught me what being a TR a friend truly meant if it was important to you it was important to him he lived in the present and truly found the joy in every situation Cory like many of you sitting here
Today was and is a true hero in the 18 years of knowing him I heard many stories I quickly learned how tough the job of being a firefighter truly was the things you see the situations you’re thrown into would make an inferior man like me shudder with fear you all run
Head first into it and I’m incredibly grateful for all the First Responders and attendance here today according to my text read with Corey he delivered five babies himself over the years and I know for a fact that he brought one man back to life on March 19th 2019 Cory was
Spending the day with his kids up at snow snowball in Flagstaff at 12:35 p.m. I got a text from Corey just saved the guy’s life CPR shocked whole thing as the story went Cory was sitting with his kids outside the restaurant on the slopes and a man suddenly dropped at the
Bottom of the stairs outside through some commotion Cory’s attention turned to the man on the ground as someone was attempting CPR picture someone like me with no clue what they’re doing pretending to do what they see on TV in Rush’s Corey to take over from this non-hero I kid I think it’s very
Noble for someone to try to step in and help but this man did not need a noble man he needed Corey and his life was now literally in his hands Corey took off my snowboard gloves that I let him borrow and this this is arguably the most important part of this
Story and he began real CPR he asked an employee if they had a defibrillator and after confirming so he dispatched him to go get it it was funny talking with Cory about the story because this is where he says he began to panic a bit because
Although he had been trained on how to use an AED he had never one he had never actually done it and two he had never he had never done it with soaking wet hands while lying in the wet snow but let me remind you who Cory was a true hero
Someone who put others before himself well the wet conditions didn’t stop him from using it and he was able to restart the man’s heart and bring him back to life after stabilizing him and waiting for a LifeLight H helicopter to arrive and take the man to the hospital cor
Only then realized that my snowboard gloves were sitting on the man’s chest as the helicopter flew away Cory called me and was more concerned with the fact that he lost my snowboard gloves than he was proud of saving that man’s life listening to him try to apologize
For this was pretty comical it’s almost as comical as a snowball employee handing him a free drink ticket for saving this man’s life so there sat Corey on the picnic tables drinking a free ice cold beer with his kids sitting next to him and I remember telling him that if kids if his
Kids didn’t know what a real hero was they learned it that day they got to personally witness him save a man’s life without hesitation what a proud dad moment if I could go back in time and spend and spend one moment with Corey it might be to sit there at that table with
Him and his kids while he enjoyed that beer the ultimate definition of who Cory was if you are looking for Joy put Jesus first and others second and this leads us to the last part of this equation of Joy yourself I didn’t know what the word conviction was until I met Corey
Conviction is defined as a firmly held belief or opinion Corey had firmly held beliefs he loved Jesus he loved his family his wife and his kids he loved his firefighter brothers and sisters Cory loved Pat Tillman and the Sun Devils and he hated the school from down
South Cory loved living a simple life he loved wearing jeans a T-shirt and a hat he hated tight pants Cory loved Metallica and he loved G Brooks he loved to hunt he loved to fish he loved to sit at a lake with just a line in the water watching the sunset he
Loved the breeze in the Mountain Air as he was scouting for his next hunt when I first met Cory I never hunted I never fished I knew never I never knew what it meant to enjoy God’s beautiful Creations but Corey was passionate about the things that he loved and the more time I
Spent with him the more I was drawn into the things that he loved to do he had conviction when I first would go fishing with him the second my line would break he would hand me his Rod so I could continue to fish as he began tying a
Double Uni knot on the line that I broke over time I felt bad that that he was doing this for me so I started to learn to tie my own fishing knots I learned how to shoot a bow because of all the stories I heard of him hunting for Elk I
Wanted to be a part of his adventures in over 18 years I ended up having a lifetime full of stories and memories because Cory brought me along I was drawn into his sense of adventure we have caught trophy rainbow trout and sholo and count caught count L musky in
Wisconsin we stocked elk through the M on rim and have snowboarded the mountains of Colorado we white water rafted down the rivers of Montana we have lost more money than we’ve won at the tables in Vegas and played endless rounds of golf in between I wouldn’t have done any of these things without
Corey he had a sense of adventure like no other and I’m so grateful he brought me along his side now I’m teaching my son how to tie a double un KN because of Cory’s convictions I had become a better dad and I’m incredibly grateful for that
First is Jesus second is others last is yourself Cory figured out the formula early on and his life the life we are celebrating today was filled with joy as I think back to the def Dictionary’s definition of conviction I think Corey maybe would Define it a little bit
Different I think he would lean a little more towards what is written in John 15:3 greater love has no man than this that a man lay down life for his friends this was Cory’s conviction and he shared his love with everyone as Matthew 25:21 says well done my good and faithful
Servant thank you to Dutch and John for their kind words to Chief Shannon Sasha 5050 thank you to all of Scottsdale Fire Department for all of this the fire service is the fraternity of man of of men Corey cherished With Every Beat of his heart to his fellow
Honor Guard members for which he was a member for nearly 10 years walked tall you’ve done him proud he earned this by paying for it with his life thank you all for being here as I look around I’m grateful for the 42 years Corey spent with us on this Earth
And I’m heartbroken with the loss of our friend and the impact he had on our lives as I watch Tears stream down some of your faces for those of you who don’t know the two gent standing next to me as Cory would say frequently they are Jim and Adam they
Are the J and the a I am the C and Cory was the K and together we make the Jack I came to this group in the fourth grade at age n 33 years ago I’m the least senior for Jim Adam and Cory had been together since
Kindergarten we want you to know our friend as we knew him two stories come to mind although I’m down to one since John just ruined my first one they wor your snowboarding gloves you will see similarities in both stories both exemplify who Corey is in our hearts
Forever and I apologize to my family in the back for this one 14 years ago we went to Germany to visit Adam who was playing professional basketball there we are on a plane coming home from 10 days of gorge 10 days of gorging on too many beers the flight was from dorf to
Detroit about 90 minutes into our 8- hour flight the pilot comes over the intercom and asks for a doctor nothing happens any nurses or Pilots still nothing then the pilot says anybody with any medical experience Cory looked at me f what do you think I said what do you think we’re
Going to be able to do he said help I said I don’t think I’m sober enough so I pulled my hoodie up and tried to get an nap in that’s when I heard the overhead ding the flight attendant walks over Cory says I’m a firefighter how can I help 3
Or 4 hours go by and I’m waking up for my second nap F walks over or excuse me Cory walks over to me and says F all I have is a stethoscope a blood pressure cuff and an oxygen bottle and the pilot wants to know what we should
Do they talked about Landing in Syracuse or rockchester for some hospital I said yeah but our connection’s in Detroit they decided to patch Corey through to a doctor on the ground where he G calmly gave the equivalent of a courtesy notification and the decision was made to land in
Detroit Cory put that person their emergency and everyone on the plane above himself for nearly eight hours he took care of that patient and for those and now everyone that knows this story I’ll never be able to live it down the second as you know was the time
That he was in Flagstaff at Snowball the man with the heart attack when Cory initiated the chain of survival doing the compressions until he brought someone back with the AED at the bottom of the steps in the slush the foot traffic of the Lodge there he defibrillated a stranger
Saving his life the part of the story I remember was when he looked up and saw his kids faces their dad the hero had just saved a man’s life it’s a hard job to come home from sometimes to tell someone what you’ve witnessed that you’ve done CPR or just
Notified that someone’s family member has died for his kids to see their dad in action during family time at the base of a skope working selflessly in the service of strangers of others is the definition of a hero that’s who Cory was he was a hero
He was selfless he had a hard Edge he was a little stubborn funny and a quick wit that could be quite Curt Cory loved his family his faith the Brotherhood of scottsd fire Hunting Fishing in the jack although the Jack just wasn’t the four of
Us but it was an event that he fostered from the beginning and it is hard to describe the Jack if you don’t know it the letters of the word bear our names golf is the mechanism for which we make it happen it was something that started
As a way for us to stay connected as our lives got crazy with work and Kids a place we could meet up and tell stories laugh and cry and just be with each other we have done all that and so much more it has become a support group like
Yesterday when 20 plus members showed up last minute to support each other playing nine holes even Cory didn’t want to be left out see he had sent us an email the night before making sure that we were all on the same page it is one of the craziest
And most surreal moments of the last 10 days an email from Corey popped up in our inboxes telling us it’s okay to move on the four of us have been just boys or a group of friends until we named it 12 years ago at first kind of joking on
Ourselves and as I stand here today I’m prder than ever to be associated with this group the four of us have been a part of a major part in each other’s lives for over three decades we’ve had marriages and divorce high school and college graduations hiring and promotions within our professional fire
Departments we’ve endured the loss of parents and friends we have nine kids and four stepchildren among us we know our group will extend generationally and now today we share this terrible and tremendous loss with all of you Cory did everything first he was our go-to for buying houses
And wedding rings walking down the aisle and introducing his kids to this beautiful and sometimes cruel world he was the idea guy he would send a text and we would figure out how to make it happen like when he secretly drove to San Diego ahead of me with Adam
To write will you marry me in the seaweed on the sand so I could propose to my wife Cory was also introspective and thoughtful one of the things I took away from him other than that laugh when you knew had him going well was that he shared something with us his
Vulnerability we had a couple conversations the last couple years about very specific and difficult topics he opened the door to seeking help something rare in this profession and much needed if he could do what I knew I could and I did too there is no shame in being
Vulnerable as much as Cory loved us this group the Jack and all of our Shenanigans Corey lived for his family Mark and Mary Beth thank you for sharing him with us raising him right and letting us be a part of your family Kevin not only were you his big brother you’re ours
Too it took a few years but you got grandfather D to the Jack in the March Madness Adventures Cory didn’t want a memory without you being a part of it he loved you like only you you as his brother knows Hudson I told you this the other
Day and I don’t see it changing very much you are him for those of you that don’t know what Cory was like at 15 come introduce yourself to Hudson if you really want to know what Cory was like in 15 compete at Hudson against anything dice cards golf anything and
You’ll know Grace you were his baby girl he would send pictures of your dance recital to us especially how proud he was of you and the Nutcracker he loved you with the intensity of a thousand stars you two are the Highlight in Legacy of your Dad’s
Life he wants you to live life to its fullest and we will be here when you’re needed when you need us Ashley when Cory first met you he told us about a girl in a Lamborghini all we wanted to talk about was the car I thought I’d seen Cory laugh and
Smile before he met you and yet somehow you open something in him many of us have never seen he had an enthusiasm and passionate devotion towards you and for You For Better or Worse was your commitment and you made him better I looked back over some of the
Stuff Cory posted and he wrote The Following about you being in his life on April in 2023 happy anniversary babe what a crazy year the highs the lows I think we’ve lived out all of our wedding vows in just one year cruising and concerts and hospital beds love you you got more out
Of your marriage in 2 and a half years than many of us do in our lifetime for be sad that he there is no time left and yet grateful for the time that you got to spend together he was yours and you were his for always and
Forever remember Cory is only a few years few words away he had some great isms we all have used them today you’ve heard a few already they’ve been repeated endlessly by those who knew him best and I guarantee if you close your eyes right now when I repeat some of
These words you will see his face and hear his voice words like n never doubt bang full Panic you had one job think thin copy upgrade show me you’re an athlete cat and Adam’s favorite don’t be angry Chris knowing that he’d already spun me up and lastly for those of you that play
Golf like a lot of us did with him the next time you get a bird he raise your hand to the sky and give a that’s what he would do and we’ve taken it with us forever as long as you keep Cory in your heart he will be with you
Forever I will end with this quote by Irwin mcmanis so let me tell you before you hear it from someone else I’m dying but so are you I cannot ensure how long I will live but I can determine that I will live fully while I am
Alive when we realize we are terminal we start treating time with the respect it deserves Corey lived Fully Alive we love you brother rest easy we’ll take it from here Well normally I’m one that would write out what I’m going to say word for word uh I normally manuscript my sermons and
Try to memorize them word by word but I just could not do that today so instead I’m going to just try to go off a few main points and so many of the stories that I was going to tell have already been told so my words are going to be
Fewer than what I was anticipating but I’d like to start off really on behalf of the entire Ule family for uh to thank some of the other families that are here today uh first I’d like to thank our Highlands family for just the incredible job that they’ve done to be able to
Present this service and to make today happen with all the details and work that goes behind it so for cat Michael Brendan S and for the many many many people that made today happen just thank you um many hands make light work and and you’ve done a great job just to make today
Happen uh I’d like to thank the the city of Scottdale um for the mayor for the city manager for the city council members that are here we have just been overwhelmed by the support that the city has given and in a day where First Responders are normally not
Treated as well as they should be uh today was not one of those days so again thank you for this city like to thank the Scottdale fire department family uh when I was invited to be a chaplain I don’t know about 12 years ago Pete Toco was taking me around all the
Stations and I can remember him telling me that um Mark he said this uh thing of chaplaincy uh we’ve never had one so I can’t tell you exactly how to do it but I can tell you what it will be like it’ll be like being in the family uh and
There’s no family like the fire family he said they’ll be there for each other when needed and you’ll be amazed at the support that you’ll get if if you ever need it and our family has been overwhelmed by the support of the Scottdale fire department family so Chief
Sasha uh the honor guard um for really all of the brothers and sisters that represent Scottdale fire uh on behalf of our family thank you so much for the honor of of today um Corey was proud to serve as a member of the fire department and also
The honor guard and it gives me a great deal of pleasure to be able to share the uniform today i’ also like to be able to thank the family of the Mayo hospital for about 13 months we’ve been down a long road that’s been just seems like one setback after another and for
All the hours that I spent in the hospital room uh Mayo has a good advertising program in that they continually run H commercials about Mayo hospital in the hospital rooms and they Pride themselves on their expertise and and their knowledge and abilities to be able to solve heart
Problems and for that they they truly can be thankful but they have one core value that meant more than their expertise and that was just the compassion that they showed our son it’s been said that it’s easy to those it’s easy to love those that love your kids
And it was easy to love Mayo hospital because they love Corey so I know I’m going to leave so many out but for the fourth floor transplant pod Jenna Maggie David and for so many more for the ICU team and especially Dawn that was there in our last hours we just
Can’t thank you enough so thank you for that family and then finally and and certainly not least importantly I’d like to thank the uul family starts with mpw and for the traditions and the example that they set that’s been passed on and we are so thankful for you and
For all the the the things that you’ve done to teach us to put family so high on our priority list for all the nieces and nephews that are here for those that have traveled so far to fight through blizzards and storms and things like that thank you my sister my sister that
Wasn’t able to make it because of storm and some family issues really for all the family members thank you so much for your support it’s just means so much to us Ashley thank you for being such a part of our our ual family and they were right in regards to
The joy that you brought Corey in just a short time I’d like to read some of Ashley’s comments regarding Corey she writes Corey’s passion for life was nothing short of inspiring Although our time together was cut so very short we live days that we had had with love and Adventure the
Experiences that we have shared will last a lifetime the love that his friends family and fellow firefighters have shown me has demonstrated just how much he meant to every single one of you he was truly as loyal and hardworking as they come and not a day will go by that
He has not incredibly missed and actually I know I speak for the entire family to just say thank you for loving our son so well the image that we will have Mary Beth and I is just you cuddling up to him in the hospital and providing such
Compassion and comfort when he needed it the most thank you well I’m going to try to fill in some pieces and and not double up on so many stories and answer the question what made Corey Corey and I’m doing this based on a passage of scripture where Jesus
Described his mission statement for life he said I came that you might have life and have it to the full and I think that expression life to the full is a great summary of Corey and for his life of course it started off like I’ve already mentioned with with family and I
Can’t speak of family without thanking the phoms Who provided our family an environment to create family in Wisconsin so many of the pictures that were shared on our video were from Wisconsin and we had this dear family that would allow our entire huge family
19 of us at the end to invade their home um and basically allow us to be family together and as Mar Beth and I were sharing the last couple of weeks of of our family rallying together and supporting Grace and Hudson and one cousin taking care of the other cousin
Mary Beth said that’s Wisconsin and it was we built so many great memories here so thank you for that thank you for all the the friends uh that that have meant so much to Corey he had life to the full with all of his friends and so many have already shared those
Stories uh I would just add to the the engaging aspect of Corey’s life I asked Logan hey what what word describes your uncle and he used the word um electric and I thought well that’s an interesting word why electric and he said well he’s just the life of the part
He brings vitality and energy and a magnetism to everything he does and you’d get excited to do whatever Corey was doing whether that’s playing settlers or you know having a a a toad race out in the grass um but uh perhaps the biggest uh example of how he would just engage and
Energize something was getting Ashley into the water and uh to to fish and to kiss a fish and to do all these things crazy things that we did it just showed that he again was a Memory Maker at every turn of course what makes Cory Corey is his character we’ve already talked about
The high standards that he had about hating to be second he told us a story of a fire that they got to and they got their second one time because one one of the crew or I don’t know who it was it’ll be innocent if I don’t tell you
But um they had to go to the bathroom before they left and Cory was so upset that their truck was second on the the call he said it’s not going to happen this way you piss in your turnouts if you have to next week and he drilled that crew later to
Make sure that they could never make that happen again again we talked about his high standards and and how he not only lived those high standards but he expected those high standards to be carried out by others and and uh again sometimes he would get short uh if we didn’t meet those
Standards but we knew that Cory G had a heart that was below all that we’ve already mentioned the Loyalty with his friends the tradition of the department um Grace mentioned the word that’s been mentioned so often the selfless nature of Corey and for her dad and again we
Can see that they were the the joy of his life you know all the outdoor activities with Hudson and watching go Grace go from just doing a little squat in dance to finally getting on point as a ballerina we’ve been cracking nuts since 2014 but enjoying all those memories
Together again he just Cory just had a way of making everything funny and then of course the courage that that’s been mentioned especially the courage to live out his convictions we can remember as a high school student when perhaps peer pressure is the greatest Corey would get
Harassed and bullied I guess you’d call it today about being a a follower of Christ they called him Church boy and preacher boy and all these other names but Cory was not ashamed to be a follower of Christ and um he continued to reach out to his friends to invite
Them to church and to find out what it means to have a relationship with Christ so if I had to sum up Corey’s what made Corey Corey it’s life to the full with family Friends character the courage of his convictions and we are just so thankful
To to have had 42 years of great memories of life to the full with our son and uh others have asked how are you doing for us as a family and I I’ve said I’ve really um been able to pull it together based on the wisdom of two other fathers
Who who lost Sons uh one was a a father um a young father um back about 24 years ago uh by the name of Dan he and his wife were giving uh birth to two twin boys and unfortunately the the birth uh process started way too quick and they
Were not able to to deliver these boys alive and so when we went down to the hospital I talk with Dan I was a young Pastor been at it about a year and you say stupid things and I said well Dan how are you doing how are you able to
Make it through this and Dan gave me the wisdom that was beyond his years and he said something that I’ll never forget he said Mark all I’m trying to do is remember what I know is true about God I’m just trying to remember what I know is true about God and really that’s
What I’ve been doing that’s what our family has been doing these last 10 days we’ve been trying to remember what we know is true of God that he’s good The Sovereign I’ve been going back to a passage from Isaiah 41 110 that tells me
Do not fear and in a year of 13 months of nothing but fear and continual setback and not knowing what’s ahead this sayso not fear for I Am with You says the Lord do not be dismayed and that word dismayed talks about the an anxiousness and the perplexity of not being able to
Answer so many why questions or how things will work out and it says do not be dismayed made for I am your God the personal nature of God is something I know to be true and then three attributes that God provides that we needed so much over
This last time says surely I will strengthen you and we needed every moment of God’s strength for when we are weak then he is strong he said surely I will strengthen you I will be your help and that word help is just talking about the surrounding strength and protection that
God provides and then thirdly surely I will uphold you with my righteous right hand and in these last few days where our world has tottered like we could not even imagine God has been there to hold us up and to support us and to make us strong with
The hand that’s always right with a timing that’s always perfect and with the know knowledge and the hope that we know exactly where Corey is today so Corey lived life to the full he believed it and he took Jesus up on that offer and so because of that we
Are so thankful for 42 years of life to the full thank you again on behalf of all of our family for your love and support for us the Bell ceremony the men and women of today’s fire service are confronted with a more dangerous work environment than ever
Before we are forced to continue Ely change our strategies and tactics to accomplish our tasks our methods may change but our goals remain the same as they were in the past to save lives to Pro protect property and sometimes at a terrible cost this is what we do this is our chosen profession
And this is the tradition of being a firefighter even though the fire service of today is ever changing it is steeped in Traditions of over 200 years old one such tradition is the ringing of the bell in the past as firefighters began their tour of Duty it was the Bell that
Signaled the beginning of that day’s shift throughout the day and the night each alarm was sounded by a bell which summon these brave souls to fight fires and place their lives in Jeopardy for the good of their fellow citizens and when the fire was out the alarm had come
To an end it was the Bell that signaled to all the completion of the call when a firefighter died paying the Supreme sacrifice it was the mournful toll of the Bell that solemnly announced a brother or sister had passed we utilize these Traditions as symbols which reflect honor and respect
To those who have G given so much and who have served so well to symbolize the devotion that these brave souls had for their Duty a special signal of three rings three times was adopted from Roman times these three tolls represent the end of our brother or sister’s Duty
Their tour complete and that they will be returning home and so to those who have selfishly dedicated their lives to serving others their task complete their duties done we sound the Bell [Laughter] I’d like to invite Christian McDaniel Brian ducher and Matt Perry to the podium they will be reciting the firefighter prayer the firefighter prayer when I am called to duty Lord wherever Flames May rage give me strength to Save a Life whatever be its age help me embrace a little child
Before it is too late or save an older person from the horror of that fate enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout and quickly and efficiently put the fire out I want to fill my calling to give the best in me to guard my friend and my
Neighbor and protect their property and if according to your will I must answer death’s call blessed with your protecting hand my family my wife one and all All Uniform Personnel please rise All Uniform Personnel ATT 10 Hut present arms Kevin you please come to the state and you may be
Seated thanks man appreciate it Cory would have loved all that tradition and he would have gone up up when you bobbled on Taps there a little bit that’s all right up up [Applause] up but he would have loved it I’m going to read you uh a letter
That Grace his daughter wrote if you wanted me she wanted me to share uh there’s a lot of things my dad did in the small amount of time that he lived but the one thing that I think everyone in this room would agree on is that he never stopped loving he never stopped
Showing love to me and he was as uh he never stopped showing love to me when he was at his darkest moments in life he never stopped showing love to my brother even when he was angry at him never stopped loving his two stepdaughters even though though he wasn’t there from
The start he never stopped loving his wife my mom Ashley is what made his life turn around when a couple of years ago his life wasn’t was going downhill but most importantly he loved his whole family more than anything else I would be honored to love my family
Half as much as he did one of my favorite memories that I have of my dad is when every year my whole family would go to the lake in Wisconsin and they have a sko we would always go tubing and kneeboarding and surfing whatever we wanted to do
My dad made it happen my dad would usually Drive the boat so I jumped in the lake and I’m getting on the water ski and I wasn’t very good at it my dad said whatever you do don’t drop the rope and so I got up on the skis all
Excited everyone’s cheering for me and that moment lasted about 5 seconds I went face first into the lake and my dad pulls around and he says sis why’d you drop the rope and I told him I didn’t want to do it it anymore and that I was done and he
Said I didn’t come out here just to watch you do this one time for 5 seconds he would always be so hard on me and not really as hard as uh on me as the others that he wanted to ski so I got up and I went down and that happened
About five more times my dad says okay sis one last time so I was talking to myself and getting ready and I hear the boat engine turn on and I go up and we all waited a bit and everyone in the boat started to cheer my dad takes his hands off the
Steering wheel and he raises his hands and that’s when I knew that he was proud of me it’s true taught me to never give up and if something is hard to keep trying and it’s something that will remind me of him for the rest of my life most
People come to funerals thinking that it’s going to going to be sad and emotional that’s how funerals are but if my dad was here he would turn things into jokes he wouldn’t want us to be sad sorry I’m screwing it up he wouldn’t want us to be sad that
He’s gone cuz he’s not I want you to hear the wisdom of my niece we all know he’s not physically with us but he’s here with us the takeaway that I’m getting from this whole thing is to not to say goodbye but to rejoice and know that my
Dad is not in pain he’s not suffering anymore but that he’s with the Lord looking down on us he’s smiling and probably saying how proud he is of us he’s not in pain he’s not suffering he’s with the person that everyone here he’s with the person that everyone here loves and that’s
Jesus my my dad had a choice to come back into this world he wouldn’t none of us would cuz he’s seeing the creator of this world and he sing it the creator of this world is more than coming back into this world with pain and suffering soon as my
Dad’s heart stopped beating he met the person he had been waiting for his arrival for a long time something for all of you to think about that he’s not in pain he’s living an eternal life with God and to me that’s what I want uh to not go through pain for a full
Year not to be scared knowing that my dad is okay is making me okay it’s it’s going to hurt really bad at times and that’s okay that’s part of the healing it will get easier at times yes there’s still a lot of first in our lives for
Some of us uh for some of us lives have changed forever but just know that just because he’s not here on Earth he still loves us just as much as he as when he was we all love you Dad never a doubt thanks Grace uh I’m going to read you uh just a
Passage of scripture I know some of you guys are like all right when is this this a lot of talking uh this will be quick it’s from 2 Corinthians chapter 4 uh verse 16 and it it’s been it’s been Cory’s Journey this last year of his
Life the Apostle Paul says this so we do not lose heart though our outer self is wasting away and any of you that saw my brother in the last couple of weeks he wasted a way to nothing they pumped him full of so much poison and garbage though are outer self is wasting
Away our inner self is being renewed day by day for this light momentary Affliction is PR preparing for us an eternal weight of Glory beyond all comparison as we look not to the things that are seen But to the things that are unseen for the things that are seen are
Transient but the things that are unseen or Eternal we celebrate my brother today and I thank all of you guys for being here in the honor that you have given but you guys need to know this uh look around this room one of these is coming
For all of us the day coming where your family and friends are going to gather in a room like this maybe bigger maybe smaller and people are going to get up here and share stories about your life and you’re going to laugh and they’re going to cry but it’s coming for all of
Us and what gives me and my family incredible hope and Incredible strength and the understanding and the knowledge that though we carry this box in like he’s there we know that he’s not you hear Tom Shannon talk about it and Sasha talk about it and Dutcher talk about it
And Thomas talk about it my dad talk about it we know he’s not here we know that he is with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for eternity and to quote Corey it never a doubt where he is but it’s not because of all the incredible things he did and
He did a lot of incredible things we can say with conf confidence I can say with confidence that my brother’s not here but he’s with the Lord because of how he answered two questions in his life same two questions the only two questions he would want you to wrestle
With today and that is this what do you believe about yourself as awesome as my brother was as many people as he saved as much fun as he had as as many laughs as he brought he would tell you the same thing you know what he believed about himself he was not
Perfect he was not perfect and any of you guys that were around him you know he wasn’t perfect strove for Perfection but he wasn’t perfect you can call it imperfection you can call it falling short the Bible calls it sin my brother knew he was a
Sinner he was not perfect God looks down and goes I want you to be perfect and Cory looked up and said God I am not that I’m a sinner he believed that about himself because he believed that about himself he knew he was in trouble and he needed a
Savior the guy that you heard stories about saving other people people’s lives there there came a point in his life where he realized I’m not perfect I need to be saved and the second question he answered is the only question he would want you to wrestle with today is this
What do you believe about Jesus Christ what do you believe about Jesus because we I read this passage and I go what do you mean light momentary Affliction I watched my brother die this last year real slow and real painful didn’t seem light didn’t seem momentary but it’s lightened momentary
Only in comparison to Eternity and because of what my brother believed about Jesus Christ he’s in eternity waiting for all of us to get up there checking out all the coolest parts of heaven and going man I can’t wait for my friends and family to see
This we don’t get there because we do great things we don’t get there because we’re good people we get there because at some point we realize God I’m not perfect and then you got to to answer that second question what do you believe about Jesus here’s what my brother believed
About Jesus Christ you’ve heard people attest to it he believed Jesus Christ was the son of God that he came down to this earth and lived a perfect life and at the end of his life found himself with a decision to make crying out to his father in the
Garden saying God if there’s another way let’s do that God said Son there’s not so Jesus Christ was led up a hill sacrificed on a cross died the death that my brother deserved that I deserve that we all deserve he died in place of us and then three days later he came
Back to life he beat Death seated at the right hand of God and the second my brother breathed his last in that hospital room at Mayo there was Jesus standing with his arms open saying finally you’re home not because my brother was perfect but because Jesus was and my brother
Believed Jesus Christ was a savior here and I’m telling you right now if if God saw fit somehow to have my brother walk in those doors right now he wouldn’t look at you and go man I remember when he wouldn’t want to reminisce he wouldn’t want to tell stories he wouldn’t want
To go what are you doing here I’m not a big deal he wouldn’t want to do any of that he want to look you in the eye and go man what do you let me tell you about Jesus Christ because 100 years from now that’s
All that’s going to matter for any of us so what do you believe about Jesus I know there’s a lot of fire guys here men and women both and I know you’re counting down the clock till we can get out of here and the Afterparty starts and whatever happens
Happens don’t go to bed tonight without wrestling with that question what do you do with Jesus Christ because the only thing my brother would want you to do tonight is to think about that who is Jesus Christ to you and if at any point you find yourself going man I’m struggling I’m
Wrestling I want I need to know more about Jesus Jesus I got to line him with the chaplain you talk to him it would be no greater honor than for my dad to sit down with you and to know that part of his son’s Journey was to help you come
To know my brother’s savior I’m going to leave you with that light momentary afflictions here because of the Eternal weight of glory and grace you are so right never a doubt he’s with Jesus never a doubt I’m going to pray and then all these guys in these little
Dresses over here are going to spark up those things it’s going to get real loud and real powerful and my brother would love every minute of it so I’m going to pray God thank you thank you for the hope my dad speaks of thank you for the hope that you’ve
Given me that even in the midst of hurt and heartache and sadness and emotion that we can stand on truth and the truth that my brother loved you and God I do I pray I continue to pray that your Holy Spirit would move in the lives and the hearts of everybody in
This room and God anyone here that you’re calling into your family into your kingdom God you would not let them leave this place without wrestling with what they do with your son Jesus God that you would call people into your kingdom that the legacy of your son Jesus will continue to live on
And every one of us in in this room calls him our savior God let us just put him on display in the way that we love and care for each other certainly in these hard times and thank you for a chance to honor and celebrate my little brother
