To thank the church on for on yesterday for all the support with the 27th annual uh ML King breakfast want to thank all the servers uh all the individuals that also came out that did other individual Parts I was out of program on last night and some of my friends they mentioned
You know how wonderful it was that they were able to come to the program and the servers uh greeted them and uh quickly helped to feed everyone and and I want to thank uh Brenda for what she always does to have the setup uh here in the uh
Building for the attendees and then Fred Wilson for always partici participat participating with the scholarship and and lastly I want to thank Pastor kin because it was him who came to me last year and said hour it’s time to start the Breakfast Bag he said we’re coming
Out this pandemic so let’s start the breakfast bag and this church as always will support that event and make sure that it’s a community event so I want to thank Pastor kin for for coming to me on last year and then also I want to thank Minister Roser for coming to me this
Year and saying hour let’s add a new component to the ml keing breakfast let’s add the college fair for our students and uh and on yesterday we had probably over 100 students to participate in the the college Fest so I’ve always been told that surround yourself with good people and listen to
Good people when they give you good advice and so Pastor kvin gave me good advice on starting the breakfast back two years ago and then last and then this year Minister Roser when he came to me with the idea of adding the college fair to the m Mo King breakfast so again
I want to thank the church for your support of that event uh we could not do that uh breakfast without uh this church and all the support that is given to support that Community event so thank thank you thank you thank you come on church family give him a big

Guards but this person I’m want to Y to this morning get your hands ready to clap for he can move the hand of God and he does it quite often on our behalf y’all call him his pastor of this house but I also call him as spok of

Success and I know the house was full attorney ARA Foster and those who work with you sir would you would you stand and come to the mic if you would I was one of the most powerful men that I know quiet spirited individual but who gets things
Done and it’s because of his efforts and the efforts of the fraternities and perhaps sororities that make the MLK breakfast possible so Ira would you just say whatever man thank you so much for what you do well again I want to publicly publicly thank you again Pastor kin
Because I want to uh everyone I want to just reemphasize that we were in the pandemic two years ago and we have postponed the ML King breakfast for two years and so I just want to publicly acknowledge again that Pastor King came to me last year and said hour it’s time
To restart the ML King breakfast and so so again his vision on getting that event restarted and then also I just want to mention for those of you that were not there on yesterday the breakfast is an opportunity for us to give our young people an opportunity to
Take part in that program they take the lead they do all the important um program initiatives that related to the to that program and we do that because we want our youth to truly understand what Dr King dream is truly about and so what better way to get our children
Involved and to try to help them understand the dream that by letting them take significant roles in a program that honor that honors him and I just want to say that for the Youth that were involved on yesterday as I sat there in the audience and I saw them doing their
Specific portions of the program uh Pastor kin it was just great to see how they just really took the initiative on doing their portions of the pr program they really took charge and they were really excited about uh participating in the program so often we have to nudge
Our Youth and really push them to get involved but the youth that were involved yesterday they did a fantastic job and again this program is a way for getting them involved early to truly understand and appreciate what Dr Dream Dr King’s dream is truly about and then
Also I just want to Pastor Kirby mentioned to you that on last night I was out of the program and some of my friends mention how H how wonderful it was to be served by um our staff that how our staff they were able to get over
300 people fed in about 30 minutes or so and they were just stating that again that our staff that they were so friendly and they were so helpful and they got folks in and out uh of the line and then also um want to thank Terry Terry for coordin everyone and and folks
Were bragging about that good country breakfast that we had along with the program but again but again I just want to finally say that this is a team effort we could not do that program without uh your leadership and allowing us to use this church this facility because this is
Probably the only facility in W Robbins that could hold an event that sometimes have as has as many as 400 people last year this year we were I think around 300 but in some years we’ve been over 400 people and there’s no other facility in this city that could hold that event
And so again and thank you for allowing us to do that event here bless you thank you sir thank you so very thank you tomorrow we celebrate the birthday of the late Reverend Dr Martin Luther King Jr and I pray that we will do so with an attitude with a spirit toward
Serving not just experiencing the holiday but really the making the dream a reality by serving others unless we forget when Dr King was present with us during the Heyday of the Civil Rights Movement many people of our color were not King followers it hasn’t always been a time when we were
Celebrating Dr King and it’s sad that many people never go appreciate it until they die what he has done is often talked about even by his adversaries today so people of color people around the world we must not forget what Dr King stood for what he marged for and ultimately what he died
For equality fairness and the politics of the day are doing all they can to erode fairness everything they can to make it more difficult for us to exercise our right to vote but when times get tough the tough got to get going and so as one of the spokespersons for this
Church we’re going to toughen up and we going to get going CU Satan is not going to win this battle Hallelujah join with us in prayer for sister Roxy Lewis who’s in the hospital sister Ruby Wilson who’s hospitalized with Aubrey Mitchell who’s in rehab those are the persons that I know
About we we want to keep them lifted up in prayer amen finally in terms of announcement I’m happy to announce a another degreed person who has have attained the master of science degree in developmental psychology been selected to the veteran National Honor Society now a come lot grad from the Walden
University and will share in the virtual commencement on February 3rd I’m happy to salute and applaud my baby girl Jana hallelujah it’s preaching time but as I look out over the congregation this morning people are looking good and I thank God for you I thank God for the blessings of this church

1-8 are we there yes sir amen the word of God reads it says I am the True Vine and my father is the vine dresser answer every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away and every branch that bears fruit he prunes that it may bear more
Fruit you are already clean because the word which I have spoken to you Jesus said I abide in me and I in you as the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it’s unless it abides in the vine neither can you unless you abide in me said I am the vine you are
The branches he who abides in me and I in him Bears much fruit for without me you can do nothing if anyone does not abide in me he is cast out as a branch and is withered and they gather GA them and throw them into the fire and they’ll
Burn say if you abide in me and my words abide in you you will ask what you desire and it shall be done for you by this my father is he’s glorified that you bear much fruit so you will be my my disciple my Lord God we just thank you for your

Seated Jesus said I am the the True Vine I am the True Vine for a topic I want to ask the question First Baptist who are you connected to Lord who are you connected to you know in today’s culture we we taught who we’re connected to we we glorified in a
Way if somebody needs something we say well I know somebody that knows somebody I’m connected to this person or that person I got connections Lord sometimes you tell them I can hook you up because I have connections you know uh we are a culture obsessed with st St connected we have our phones
IPads we have streaming services text messaging social media platforms of all forms just to stay connected we have a need a need to stay in touch with somebody so in our passage of scripture today Jesus describes the Divine connection between his followers and him it’s like that of
A Vine and the branches of the vine if we just take a quick look back at chapter 14 Jesus is having a conversation my Lord he’s having a conversation with the disciples where he says arise and let us go from here all right after he told him this I I can
Imagine and I want you to imagine with me that Jesus and his disciples began to walk and as they strolled along on the way to the Garden of Gethsemane They Came Upon A Vineyard y’all walking with me my Lord they they they’re walking alone they come upon a Vineyard all right he used
The grape vine to teach a lesson that encounter that Jesus had with the Grapevine became the occasion for one of the most amazing conversations recorded in all the scripture all right imagine that he called all of the disciples together to look carefully at this grap
Vine as he looked at this gra Vine he said well you see the well tended branches that were connected to it and the Lush grapes That Grew From the ends of the branches he told me look at it observe it then perhaps he looked up from the
Great Vine into the eyes of the disciples my Lord and he taught them and he taught us the benefit of being connected to him the first benefit is that we will be more selective is the first benefit Jesus taught to us he said I am the True
Vine he said I am the True Vine and my father is the vine dresser he said the vine dresser is the pruner he said we see that this is another one of The Great I Am statements in John’s gospel where Jesus uses the ancient name of God that God revealed to
Moses when he told Moses I am that I that I am all right all right Jesus applies it to himself and he adds a metaphor the metaphor he had he said I am the True Vine True Vine and he said Not only am I the True Vine but my father is the
Gardener yeah or the vine dresser now the vine in the Old Testament it was a metaphor of for God and being disconnected from the vine was Israel’s Disobedience to God so when Jesus says I am the vine he is saying I am the new connection yeah yeah that you as a Believer
Need he said if you’re going to relate to God you need to relate to me he said for I am the True Vine all right Jesus is telling us that he himself is the true true vine the source of our covenant relationship with God Lord he
Said I am that person I am that connection that you need to God he is the link by which we can stay connected to God and stay connected to each other therefore we really need to be selective yeah in who we’re connected to my Lord and who we connect ourselves to
My Lord my Lord the word said God is the vine dresser no the work of the vine dresser is to prune the branches yeah I don’t know that much about gardening even less about pruning I had to do a little research on pruning all right but from what I
Understand pruning the branches make the plant healthier and more productive no dead branches they get in the way sometimes and too many dead branches can cause the whole plant to die so by pruning the branches the vine dress helps the healthy branches grow stronger and bear fruit pruning is the process of taking
Away the bad stuff or the dead branches in this case no life is a process of pruning in which we learn to separate the good from the bad it’s a process in which we learn to weed out those things that prevent us from becoming who we are designed to be
Lord as we get busier and busier trying to stay connected our plates become Fuller we must learn what to keep and what to throw away Lord we must determine which things are worth our time and which things are not worth our time in fact if a tree or plant could
Talk and we’re imagining right yes sir if a tree or a plant could talk what do you imagine it would say when it’s getting pruned I would imagine that it would tell us that it hurts because pruning can be painful but I’m here to tell you that this pruning is
Necessary and in the long run it it’s going to pay off when we’re connected to Jesus God does the pruning to us and he does it for us he helps us to prioritize and focus on what is worth the most in life and eliminates the rest for us God does the
Pruning he is the vine dresser the question is what kind of things the god prune away he prunes away activities is that are time wasting wow what I mean is that God helps us get rid of those things that are not beneficial to us the things that don’t bring glory to
Him all too often it’s easy for us to spend time doing things that are not best use of our time we will use our time on things that pleases the world or ourselves things that don’t bring glory to God God helps us to weed out those things so
That we can focus our time and energy on him and what’s best for us another area of our life God prunes is destructive relationships ah the question is do our relationship push us closer to God those things those relationships that you’re connected to do they push you closer to God
Having deep relationships with others is God’s plan for us he made us to be relational people he expects us to cultivate loving nurturing relationship with others Lord but sometimes we find ourselves in relationships that don’t benefit us or don’t uh benefit anyone involved and God will prune out those bad relationships Lord
Sometimes bad relationship produces chaos I’m here to tell you God doesn’t operate in chaos and he don’t want us who’s made in the image of him to operate in chaos he doesn’t want us to operate in destructive relationships nonproductive relationships you know sometimes we get involved in relationships that aren’t good for
Us one we where we don’t have the amount of influence we should have and that God isn’t given the proper place he should be given Lord when that happens in a relationship we can ask and expect God to prune it away we got to talk to God about this thing Lord God
Would also prune away sinful behavior when we get connected to Jesus we live every moment doing what’s pleasing to him but we ought to live every moment doing what’s pleasing to him yes sir sin will become an unwelcome guest in our lives if we’re not
Connected to Jesus amen we can be we can be a little transparent this morning can we we we can talk to each other we family right right right many of us have certain areas of Our Lives where we are more vulnerable to sin maybe it’s our temper maybe we have an issue with
Self-control could have an issue with being lazy laziness or sometime we just like to gossip whatever it is whatever that sinful behavior is God will prune it away for us my Lord if we just confess our sins sir and trust that God is faithful and just Lord
To forgive us so we can resume our lives he will forgive us and cleanse us of all of our unrighteousness amen amen God will prune away our sinful ways he uses the hardships of Our Lives to strengthen our faith and make us into fit disciples MH in building of of his
Kingdom Lord God cuts off every branch that doesn’t produces fruit and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more even more even more fruit in order for us to bear fruit we got to be connected to Jesus we must be connected to
Jesus we learned by studying scripture that there is a reason we feel emptiness on the inside of us sometimes we feel empty because we’re not connected to Jesus when you’re not connected to Jesus you’re going to feel empty on the inside I’m here to tell us that there is
Nothing in the world that can feel the void of this emptiness except God people can’t money can’t expensive toys can’t drugs and alcohol can’t feel this emptiness only Jesus somebody hear me this morning only Jesus can feel that void and provide the lifegiving nourishment we
Need Jesus goes on to tell us that he said remain in me and I will remain in you for a branch cannot produce fruit if is s from the vine all right remain that word is a warning that apart from the True Vine we’re not going to Bear any
Fruit in fact apart from the vine we would die a spiritual death for a branch away from the vine is lifeless and it cannot cannot bear fruit if you and I want to experience a full life we must make the choice to connect ourselves to Jesus and
Connect our Branch to the vine all right all right if we’re connected to him we would bear we’re going to bear fruit amen if not we are dead because we won’t have the strength or the faith to live without him Jesus explicitly tells us he said if you abide in
Me you’re going to have life but he said apart from me you’re going to die yeah yeah he said if you allow me to prune and correct you you’re going to Bear some fruit my Lord he said but if you do not you cannot do anything apart from me that is bigger than
Yourself the second benefit of being connected to Jesus our lives will become more productive all right for he says yes I am Divine you are the branches says those who remain in me and I in them will produce much fruit I asked the question who are you connected
To Jesus tells us to remain in him he is telling us where you abide or where you remain is where you will dwell or where you’re going to stay or better say what you’re connected to is where you’re going to dwell or where you will stay all right if you’re connected to the
World you’re going to stay in the world and do what the world does uhuh if you remain in Christ he tells us we’re going to Bear some fruit abiding or being connected to Jesus being remaining in the presence of Jesus every minute of every hour of every day amen and as Believers
We are to always be in the presence of Jesus because he’s right there with us right every minute of every hour of every day the problem is sometimes we forget that oh we being honor this morning sometimes we forget that and we forget to acknowledge his presence as we go throughout our
Day he tells us we can produce much fruit if we’re connected to him all right oh what kind of fruit is Jesus talking about uh to begin with he’s talking about the fruit of our labor he’s saying that our work will become more fruitful being connected to Jesus would
Help us be more productive in our Ministries and in our jobs right we’ll become more effective in Ministry we will do our jobs a little bit better all right and we’ll be get better results because of it we will bear more fruit as an employee as a parent as a spouse as a
Friend and as a servant of God all right we’re going to bear fruit if we’re connected to the True Vine when we’re connected to Jesus we put ourselves in position for God to bless the work that we do all right Jesus said when he said we will bear fruit he was
Mainly talking about the fruit of the spirit he said you’re going to bear fruit of love joy peace patience kindness goodness he say you going to have fruit of faithfulness all right fruit of gentleness and fruit of self-control my Lord my Lord having a connection to Jesus living in his presence throughout
The day causes these quals to De broom it’s going to cause them to grow when we abide in Jesus he promised that our lives will become more more productive all right ah nonproductive life on the other hand is a life apart from Christ my Lord
For he tells us anyone who parts from me is thrown away like a useless branch and it Withers such branches are gathered up in into a pile and they burn all too often we begin our days in a hurry we move forward at a fast pace all day long we’re just in a
Hurry to get nowhere we always in a rush dealing with our problems and our issues and the challenges that drain us of our peace and our joy all right until we finally get home and collapse in exhaustion at the end of the day we’re tired yeah we’re physically and
Mentally tired tired because we’re in a rush oh Jesus Is Telling we don’t have to live this way he tells us we can experience Abundant Life and a fullness of joy all we got to do is get connected to him yeah the question is who are you connected to my Lord being
Connected to Jesus means we remain in him all the time not just some other time not just when we feel like it not just when somebody tell us we ought to be my Lord but all the time all the time we always need to be connected to Jesus
Amen imagine how much different Our Lives could be if we stay connected to Jesus imagine for a moment what would happen every event in our lives would become sacred and holy when we look at some some of the things we do there’s nothing spiritual about some of the activities that we do
On a daily basis absolutely you know there’s nothing spiritual about getting up in the morning and getting ready for work washing our faces and making a bed or driving to work and turning getting to work turning the computer on crunching numbers or or or if you’re in customer service waiting on customers
Amen there’s nothing spiritual about that there’s nothing spiritual about any of those things that I just named but they can become sacred if we’re connected to Jesus all right all right the Third Way We benefit from being connected to Jesus is our prayers we become more effective we’re have a more effective prayer
Life Jesus said but if you stay connected to me not only to me but my words if my words remain in you sir he say you may ask any request you like and it will be granted that is his promise to us that’s God’s promise he said if you stay connected to
Me or if you remain in me the thing that you ask the request that you ask that you like he said I will grant it to you but let’s be clear the promise Jesus make here is not like the promises that you and I make sometime Lord sometimes we promise
Things we know we won’t or can’t deliver all right we’ll make those promises yeah Although our promises are well intentioned sometimes we come to the realization that those promises that’s just not going to come true Lord that’s just a realization we have sometime when we discuss the promises Jesus made with God In
Prayer sometimes we tend to try and explain what Jesus meant or qualify his promises with some terms and conditions that he never included amen too often we put ourselves in the position of telling people why they’re not going to get what they asked for even though that is exactly what Jesus
Promised we do that sometimes amen yeah we do we’ll say something like I know that’s what he said but this is what he meant we just simply misinterpret scripture amen amen he meant if you and I stay connected to him and his word remains in
Us if those things happen he said we may ask any request we like and it will be granted in other words Jesus meant what he said amen all right somebody might ask the question how could Jesus make such a promise how could he say unequivocally that you will get whatever you
Desire one because he’s God yeah but the answer is simple when we’re connected to him our desires become what they should be yeah that’s it when Jesus is not the center of our Lives we live in constant conflict with what our desires are our wants and our needs we live in conflict
With those things we don’t want things that we should want and we want things we shouldn’t want Lord when we’re not consistently connected to Jesus it’s hard to know what to ask for all right because we’re not sure what we should have and what we shouldn’t have amen again we in
Conflict with our wants and our needs but when we get connected to Jesus we experience a change from the inside all right and our desires are completely overhauled our attachment to material possessions take a back seat all right all right our prayers become less self-serving we become mature enough to
See the world with it Eternal perspective Lord we can pray with confidence because we know that we’re going to use whatever he gives us for his glory and for the benefit of others that’s what he wants us to do being connected to Jesus gives us the
Maturity and wisdom to know what what we want cuz he’s going to give us all of our needs all right so abide in Jesus and ask for whatever you desire because he promises that it will be given will be given to you my lord as I begin to close Jesus gives us
The blueprint for True Discipleship all right he tells the disciples and us that we could bring glory to the father by bearing fruit and by doing so the world would know that we are his true disciples if you and I want our lives to flow more
Smoothly if we want to learn to be more selective to be more productive and to have our prayers to be more effective yeah then we must be connected to connected to Jesus we need to acknowledge God’s presence in every aspect of Our Lives all right we need to
Recognize that he is there with us every step that we take God is going to be right there with you get connected ah get connected to Jesus and your life will never never be the same all right all we got to do is connect ourself to the True
Vine the vine of Jesus the Christ he said get connected to me you’re going to be more more productive yeah you’re going to be better selective all right and you’re going to have an effective prayer life who are you connected to to be connected connected to Jesus we got to
Surrender our will to God to being connected to Jesus being exercising some self-denial we got to move self right on out of the way it means resisting The Temptations of the evil one oh it means that we got to connect ourselves to righteous people people
That are good for us we got to have good right connections oh it means submitting ourselves to Jesus it means that our will are not our Wills our minds and the desires are are towards God stay connected to Jesus and open up the communication lines to heaven cuz Jesus is
