Hey we’re all good sorry we we all right we’re sorry about right we’re I’m going to turn this a little bit there we go that’s better all right welcome back to another episode of the roblo podcast we’re coming to you live from cintos Center we’ve got coup that’s me we’ve got cap
At the end in the middle here we’ve got Kenny freeze he’s taller than Andre the Giant and we’ve got Keith Jackson here Kenny Keith how’s it feel to come back to sentos I’m sure anytime you come here you probably get a different type of feeling different emotions what’s like
For you Kenny man we were just talking about it I feel like the the last time I was in the gym this early before a game was when I was playing right so you know just kind of going through that mindset of you know at this point you’d be
Sitting in the locker room I don’t know how much times left the clock out there probably about 60 minutes or whatever or no I’m sorry 90 minutes it’s like you come out you get your whatever shots you know that that pregame routine whatever you’re going to do just go back in the
Locker room kind of listen to some music and stuff be ready I think we had to be out here at we would have to go back into the gym by like 45 it was like a 10-minute talk and then we had to be back on the court at 30 to start
Warm-ups and stuff so it’s just crazy being back here we got to shoot around a little bit on the court today and I locked him up on defense that’s true one time delete the just delete I about yeah I I don’t know what about you Keith um you know I still yeah get
Butterflies you know when they’re doing the the national anthem and you know the the the announcements of the of the players and things like it’s hard to ever get rid of that feeling you know so I try to explain that to my kids and to
My wife um she like why you I getting there so early because I need to feel all that you know um you still feel like you’re a part of the team when you walk in and you know so I feel like I’m a part of the team for sure
Abut I’m going to the lock room after the game Talking to coach I’m here too much you can get away with that I’m here all the time what was your uh go-to song to get you ready for the game uh Kenny’s was Party in the USA I don’t know if that’s
Your style or not but man we used to we got in TR I remember we got in trouble for listening to uh Little John and the East Side boys okay it’s just all cussing pretty much and sister rosan used to stay outside our our locker room
She’s like guys you can’t it’s like you need to step away from the locker room so we can make sure to get this win like you know come back come back in a few minutes you know so used to listen to all types of stuff though but for me I needed something to
I probably shouldn’t have listen to that cuz I used to be like windy with the first GE back but that’s for real though you get you get into the game that first like I would say that first like 4minute war is the hardest of the game until you
Get to like the very end when you’ve played 30 minutes 35 minutes whatever that first 4 minute that one the one coming out at halftime getting yourself ready to go for those 4minute Wars is tough absolutely your heart’s like your heart races way faster I don’t know it’s
Always such a weird feeling it’s just nervous energy all that but man I just I see that I see these guys warming up and it just makes I was joking about like you know try to get my co year and I’m bringing my shoes down like but like
You know you you think about that I was driving down here and there was a big billboard a big billboard with like a neon light that said like well wome home and I was like man that really like it spoke to me it was like yeah it was like
Midnight when I was driving in last night I was worried about the weather so I saw that welcome home thing and I was like man it really does feel like I’m coming home when I come here I I just have so much love for this place and uh
I’m excited to be doing this man just little blogcast in the cintos center absolutely I feel I feel special I got my little media that’s right what can I get away with we’re we’re going to push it to the Limit see we so we’ll we’ll think of something but uh
Cap speaking of Ro blob and media passes you started the podcast shortly after the pandemic and then it was just you for a little bit then you and Andy then I came on and then uh Kenny about a year ago or so if someone would have told you
Back then that that podcast you started just in your room by yourself whatever would lead to this we’re at centas Center we’ve got media passes Kenny free is full-time with us and now Keith Jackson sitting here here with us what what would you have said I mean I was
Going to joke with you and give you a joking response but it’s it’s honestly pretty crazy I mean we started something to have fun you know and to do something for the fans that we enjoyed cuz what was funny is at that time we would just
Talk about Xavier all the time so why don’t we record this and do something for the fans or whatever so to be here I mean it’s crazy I think we still have a lot lot of ways to go but it’s really really cool you sitting here with Keith
Jackson who like I was a puppy watching Keith Jackson my daddy always talk about K Jackson like why do he get more playing time this that the other I mean guys that we’ve always looked up to you know cuz C like you and I are just
Normal dudes you know so to be doing this kind of stuff and all stuff not you I’m a normal guy you’re not you’re not normal I’m normal but it’s just charger I can’t yeah but if you would have told like little kid me you know what I mean
Hey you’re going be doing this kind of stuff with people you look up to would be really really cool that’s love this community love what we’re doing so we are in cintos fellas I’m excited for this I’m really really excited for this and K uh Kenny and and Keith I want to
Talk to you guys about just like the overall macro program right now you know we’re in here cintos is beautiful now you know what I mean like how much his building has changed how much his program has changed the a 10 days BBE like that’s what I remember when I grew
Up and does it ever hit you guys just coming in the building and I know Kenny came you know down here I think you came with Shawn Miller uh I think the year before he took over at head coach didn’t you go to a game with him and all those
Guys I’m I dude I I don’t even remember that process it was so I know you ride in the building for a while yeah oh yeah I mean I I got I’ve been around since probably the summer after my freshman year so like going into my sophomore
Year um coming down to games and stuff like that was what’s it like man I mean seeing the program in the shape that it’s in now the Big East look at this building having Shawn Miller I mean with this long of a tenure now had a great
Run in Arizona one of the Premier programs of the country choosing to come back to Xavier like did you get a lot of Pride from that what’s your overall thought seeing the program the shape it’s in now I mean for me like I guess I just feel kind of I feel thankful for
The guys that came before me like you know you like we you you really stepped into the program when it was is like you know that Xavier’s not even been major anymore like making that making that jump and so by the time that I got there
And you know obviously there there was a lot of good runs before I got there but then you know we were we went to the Sweet 16 three times and it was just kind of like perennially we’re in the top 25 top 10 um so like that I you know
Just being thankful for the the previous guys that came perform ab and I saw some I saw you know Quincy talking about that he kind of just like before one of the games or after one of the games he kind of just had a shout out said
And he was just saying like hey you know like thank you for all the for all that you did for the program and like to me that’s the biggest thing that’s what Xavier is in in to its core it’s a it’s just a big family of guys it’s a
Fraternity these guys the shirt the Brotherhood the Brotherhood yeah lot of the same for you ke absolutely um shout out to mace McAfee it’s his birthday todayy birthday like I think back being from here and being able to come like my sophomore year high school I was coming to open
Gyms and uh Darnell Williams and L Mack and Al Brown and Ryan calwell and Tommy comp like all those are my OG exactly exctly um so just coming in and just trying to fit in who’s the leader okay I’m following him I you know I’m not
Trying to get bullied and all that I’m like I’m just going to be quiet and find a way to blend in y um I think that’s the tradition man we we’ve gotten great kids great guys great coaches that have built this you know step by step and I
Mean there’s no re there’s a reason why we are wor where we are right now so I’m proud of you know where that exellent my for sure no doubt I I would I would say that there’s no program in America that’s leveled up in the last 30 35
Years more than Z not one and I mean that’s one that I think about all the time is just all the Blood Sweat and Tears that all the coaches and all the players used to have to shed for us to be here I mean savior Ohio in p i
Remember those I remember playing 2K and you’re you’re picking their college the Xavier with the O where’s the other Xavier at new but no you’re exactly right I mean it was a a long road you know what I mean there’s still a lot left to go but
It’s pretty incredible oh yeah I I committed when we were still playing at the Garden so shoot wow I was still going to watch but I was there when we beat UC when they were number one oh my god um so it was like man this is a no
Rainer for me exactly um yeah I just like just find memories I was the second year my freshman year was the second year this place is open absolutely that’s crazy crazy I it seems like yesterday like I still feel young I’m like damn I’m old
Bro I’m wrri the same with you I mean you’re only like what four or 5 years older than me as but like we were just talking about it with the locker room like when I like I walked into the locker room and where those guys locker
Room is on that back wall that’s where our showers used to be and like you know just like all and you know I love that that the program been able to get what they’ve gotten and all that stuff but you just look at it like dang man
Like and the thing is like it was still awesome when you first walked into Xavier’s locker room and the the way it was when we were here you were just like man this is like doesn’t get any better than this and then obviously you see it now and you’re just like man that’s
Crazy you just so I mean the training room bro you see the remember we had the little cold tub and warm tub they have a whole pool now I know like real pool but that that whole thing that that was where the weight room was know the
Weight room and the and the training room together and like when we were first coming here or when I was coming here like I had traveled around to I mean I don’t even know how many schools probably 20 25 schools and I felt like this that their facilities at the time
Were like cream with the crop like I’m I’m looking at their locker room I mean everything it was just like wow this is insane how nice it is I mean we were up pumped that we had like an Xbox in our lock lock couch Le couch Ms on there but
Yeah man it’s just been it’s crazy to see how much the program has grown and just looking at the guys now I mean you look at the all the young guys we have like what’s it going to be in like in four or 5 years these when these guys
Are you know now these guys are getting six seven years so so it might be they be super saiyan years I mean we might have a new locker room everything the way that this place isol I bro that’s the big thing like I look at that like I
Remember being in my sport management classes and saying that we should be paid yeah like not you know I don’t need a full-time salary but like come on bro exactly I’m like that so true I mean you look at all these programs what are they without the players you know what I mean
Cuz obviously the coaching STS important but like the players are the ones that are Catalyst like look at Trayvon blue at that Elite eight run look at all the stuff Quincy’s doing right now like they bring so much value absolutely like you be the greatest coach in the world but
You need the players to go do it oh yeah or like your was it your junior year the so yeah I mean all that builds up to it for sure so all the new upgrades it’s because of you guys you know you guys L that you ever do you ever talk to the
Younger guys and like give them a little bit of heck him a little bit like you don’t know what it was like back in the day I mean do you well so um some of the zra guys came to Friar’s Club to talk to some of the kids and play around with
Them so on my court with my team when I had Davon and Dez and I was just telling him like I was with Sean Miller for four years and what his first real coaching year and he was appr him getting all that out on me so now you don’t have to
Deal with the crazy person I have to deal with right and you know we laugh but I’m like no keep going you know this is a grind you know you guys are just hitting your sh you know so now from here on out is when the season starts
You listen to Sean back here at saavor and building the program to where we expect it to be and everything like that yeah I mean I mean they had the one thing that I was thinking about was with the with all the young guys and like you
Know you know when you’re playing and you’re like you know the guys come up and talk to you and you you have that respect for them but at the same time you have so much stuff going on in your head as a young kid you’re kind of just
Like you know sometimes you might depending on what the message is sometimes you might be like man like I got it like whatever but like I try and just stay out of that part of it like I and they’ll tell you like on the podcast like I’m forever optimistic I don’t ever
Like thing the thing is like these guys that you don’t they don’t like do people really think that they care when somebody says like oh this guy needs to do this or they need to do that better or whatever like at the end of the day they know what they’re working on they
Know what they got their coaches what their coaches want them to do all that stuff so you kind of look at it from like a of a perspective like man just you know kind of deal with what you want to deal big yeah and I think it’s easier for us
Coming back and having that overview of what our careers were to sit here and say okay like they probably were right there maybe were some things that they told me that I should have paid more attention to but when you’re in it and you don’t have that overview it’s hard
It’s hard to separate it does it feel like it just goes crazy fast in the moment it’s just like you just go go go go go senior year Boom D yeah well you for for me it was like that Ma and Sean were always next next game right we won
Next game we’re in the tournament celebrate tonight next game so it’s like you don’t realize it’s over until it’s over you’re like oh [ __ ] yeah that’s wow I didn’t even realize it was our first El Elite eight until like I was done school like was is always locked in I’m
Locked into what what do I need to work on to get better for next season was I’m trying to get on the court you know I’m trying to compete with all these Hall of Famers we had you know s and chers Da Lo loaded dman cage Stanley like Duncan czy
Sandwich with all these guys so you know trying to make sure that I’m doing what I have to do to compete at the highest level so um yeah it’s a blur man it’s definitely a blur I mean for me I remember coming in my freshman year and
Being like Oh it’s four years you know you got four years to get better and then it’s just like it feels like an a blink of an eye cuz you’re going from during the season it goes so fast cuz you’re like you did coach Miller ever like count the practices when you were
There this practice one to and I remember being like in the first practice being like when when am I going to stop thinking about what number practi it is and usually it’d be around like 15 16 somewhere around there where it’s just kind of like The Season’s rolling but you’re just going you’re
Living your life from game to game you know what I mean so those days in between you just want them to go by as fast as possible so you get to that game baby right and you know what I mean you yeah right you just want them to go by
As fast as possible go by as fast as possible and then all of a sudden you know you’re in your senior year you got four or five games left and then at that point you’re starting to say like all right I really need to cherish this time
Yeah but there’s just so much other stuff yeah there’s so there’s just so much other stuff going on you know you’re thinking about like what’s next am I going to be able to play professionally like where’s my next step in life all this stuff and you just it’s
Always next next next especially when you’re young 19 to 22 years old whatever it is I’m play forever right oh it’s all good I’m somewhere after this the same kind of thing happened to me when I my rookie or no my second year out playing over in Germany I was you know 23
Something like that 24 and I had a teammate that was about to turn 30 and he was like man you’re going to he was like you you you don’t think it but right now you’re like you’re going to remember this moment I’m going to tell you you’re going to be like damn it
Really did go fast and then you fast forward you know 8 years and I was retiring and I was like man that really did go fast cuz you you traveling Europe up doing all that stuff and that would be my one piece of advice outside of all the basketball stuff these guys know
What they need to work on basketball wise they got coach for that that would be my biggest advice for the young guys is just focus on making yourself better as a player but also just like the moment when you after you leave here if
You don’t go to the NBA if you don’t go to the NBA you’re never going to have an experience like this the facilities aren’t going to be as good the your teammates you know you’re going to have good teammates bad teammates but you only usually get them for about a year
Maybe two this experience is like nothing else and I I just had the same conversation with my high the high school kids cuz even high school basketball is the same thing you got four years you got to move through it in a way that is respectful to the team to
You and to the coaches and you know just to the program in general um but man it’s just been every single time I come back here I can’t get that I can’t get the feeling out of my chest especially see Miller on the side oh man that must
Be so cool maybe we can turn to Sean real quick because what a career it’s been and you guys saw from the very beginning all the way until now in my opinion a consensus top 10 coach in the country absolutely and uh and it kind of
Felt like he was supposed to be Xavier’s coach for a long time um but he goes to Arizona which no one can blame him for obviously and coach and had a fantastic run at one of the basketball BRS in the country and I guess my question is
What’s it like for you guys and it seems like Shawn is one of those head coachs that you generally like by his players and seems like a very good human being behind the scenes you know it seems like everyone loves him uh that knows he’s a genuine Guy what’s what’s that like to
Just see Shawn Miller step back in Xavier some 20 years later I like I want to get your I want to get your perspective on it because for me I had ma for one year as an assistant and then he was the head coach so that like you
Had Miller as an assistant and then kind of yeah but you kind of see him move into that head coaching spot and like do you notice any big differences between him as a head coach and an assistant um um I mean he he would speak up a lot
Because fat with his bad back would sometimes be laying down on the table and Shan would be orchestrating and being Shan so he got to see that that you didn’t get to see the craz out of him as much because I was usually the one doing all that talking but my senor
Year was yeah okay like and here’s the thing I’m okay with it I want to be post hard I want to be P pull it all out of us and that’s what my bigest takeway when they said he was coming back I believe we were at the game when he was
Here yeah the Yukon game and we were like hold on he’s coming back there’s no reason for him to be why would he be here but yeah that was my like he’s going to take these guys to a whole another level just with his mentality yeah of every day every day every day
You going to work and you know it just happens to I don’t know how he does it but it’s somehow you know you look up and you’re like [ __ ] a totally different team talk about this year’s team I think is a perfect embodiment of that I mean I
Think this is one of the most impressive coaching jobs and and I know they’re 9 and8 or whatever I record is 10 and8 whatever I think this is such an incredible coaching job for this team such an incredible coaching job so what’s it been like watching this team
Kind of grow and develop you think I mean it’s been painful don’t get me wrong um gr pain I mean you’re starting at Ground Zero absolutely you know with a lot of you got turn 97% of the roster it’s it’s it is what it is but again the
Work yeah you know every day you’re going to you know you’re going to come in and do your job you’re going to compete at a high level so it makes sense to trajectory trajectory that we’re on right now it’s like where we’re supposed to be we dropped a couple games
We shouldn’t but you it happens keep keep grinding keep working the Freshman are getting better you know everybody’s like looks like they’re actually enjoy playing with each other finally yeah likey is like I feel like infecting these guys with his energy a bit people are smiling and we stting to look like
Old school Xavier gr basketball team to me it was kind of like after the Delaware loss when Shawn said this team doesn’t have a leader I feel like Quincy took over from B and it’s maybe it needed to happen just to get Xavier mentally there or something like that
But I mean I feel like he’s kind of Taken on the role of the leader with this team do you guys tend to agree with that oh yeah him and him and Davon and probably Abu a little bit too um you know and I think it’s just been a a product of
Having the guys that you know are the scorers on the team like obviously you’re going to have your your buckets from Gus you’re going to get some some stuff down low from Abu um you know but like having got you know Trey Green Quincy Dez and mcnight be like that bulk
Of your scoring 75 80% it really puts them all in a good position and I mean in the last few games I feel like I’ve really seen like a weight get lifted off Dez’s shoulders go because there was so much like people put so much pressure on
Him coming into the season and I have extremely high hopes for him I think he’s going to he he is and could be an even better player than he is now but to be thrown in that position as a sofh we never had to do that you know
Wish like I’ve never had a green light outside of myself War you I never had I like I’m not talking even about the green light thing I’m talking about like like Brad Redford had the green light when he came in the game but he wasn’t like our team leader you know what I
Mean like that’s a there’s a difference between the green light and like you need to play well or we’re not going to win AB there’s a big difference and so when you take that off of him and you put that on that Core group of four guys
To go out and score points together one of them can have a little bit of an off night and the other one’s picking them up and then you got Gus and ab down low really working hard under like last game I think G has had his best game of the
Year the way he played I mean he was like he he wasn’t out there doing anything like super flashy but getting on the floor he had a couple huge block shots rebounding made a made a three offensive rebounds all that stuff and then Abu does kind of the same thing I
Mean Abu made a three last game too you’re a little jealous that got us nuggets hey I made I made a three and yeah you did but that’s just guys being comfortable though you’re like we were finally seeing guys that like all right I know where my role is yeah right now
Let’s just go who like you know what I’m saying once you can get to that point where usually that’s March for guys it’s like all right like I look at a guy like Trey GRE I mean we finally saw him go off and I think maybe it just takes that one or
Two games like okay I can play at this level not taking anymore you can tell he’s not exactly that three he took in transition last game that was from like 10 like 5 six ft behind the three point line I mean you when you see a guy do
That you’re like okay he’s he’s feeling comfortable because if he took that three and he wasn’t and he didn’t necessarily feel comfortable like he would have gotten pulled out right away even if he even if he made it m probably pull him out up he would got that look real Qui
Speaking of speaking of Miller speaking of Miller and like his little saying did you see the thing on Twitter during the Yukon game when he said he’s going to score 50 dude that talk about all those facial how he makes I every single guy I know you can see those facial expressions in
Your night remember I remember being the casualty of a lot of those yeah right um I remember my sophomore year I tried to throw it off the backboard to myself on fast break I’m like I’m not playing I might as well go big and go home right like back I missed it but
Luckily will K was behind me caught it La up and I just remember his he stared at me so hard like to the point that I just stopped looking at him just like you know what I mean eyes in the back of my head yeah my moment like that my
Moment like that was I it was we were playing Virginia at Virginia and I hadn’t shot threes in practice I like never and I pulled up shot a three made it the next time like we went like three or four possessions I came down and shot
Another one he called a timeout and he just walked up to me and he looked me right in my eyes he’s like the [ __ ] are you doing say that’s the toll So Soft but aggressive [ __ ] that oh man but like do what you do that’s not what you do yeah
But man but like that type of stuff and it just like he’s really good at making Mak you understand what your role is and not only that but just how you’re going to make the team better and how you’re going to make yourself a better player
So like he does all that and it’s aggressive in the moment but you know that there’s you know good reasons for why he’s doing it oh yeah so but and that’s the thing about him is that like people don’t always have control of a locker room and a and a huddle the way
He does and he’s just I mean he was just born to be a coach and you can you can see it everything that he does um so that’s been that’s been just a lot of fun seeing and him take this team which I’m I don’t want this to come off the
Wrong way because I really think there’s a lot of Talent on this team but for him to bring in you know 10 new faces one guy returning who’s a sophomore our freshman are playing 31% of the minutes at Xavier right now if he was to take
This team to the tournament he’s got to be in at least the running for Coach of the Year in my opinion for sure I agree for sure 100% I mean let’s talk about Dez Claude for a minute he’s the only guy that had any sort of Xavier experience that returned healthy from
Last year and average what 4 and a half four and half points is a freshman that he’s counted on I mean the last three games really since that Villanova game he’s really turned the corner I think he scored 15 versus Yukon 21 against Providence and a career-high 26 against
Butler the other day what do you think maybe it is everyone else scoring Quincy and Davon like you said but what do you think it is that’s allowing Dez CLA to kind of come into the role that we kind of expected of him now I really think
The pressure is off of him at this point I the coaches believe in you your team is like dude go you’ve seen the improve we see it every day in practice go play and he’s letting it fly now which I love yeah people forget he’s a sophomore I
Feel like talking about like senior or something like no a sophomore you think about Kobe Jones in his progression he wasn’t shooting threes lights out his sophomore year he came back his junior year and added that right I feel like Dez is actually way ahead of that
Schedule if you’re comparing kind of a freshman Junior that we’re seeing right exactly what’s he going to be next year 20 what I’m saying 15 to 20 you know what I mean frustrating to me like watching all of kind of the fan backlash against dezz early in the season CU nor
Like a normal team he’s not going to have these expectations as a off because you look at a normal team like you guys can probably test this like imagine going into a season and they lost Jerome and Zack imagine going into a season in the offseason you lose your number one
And number two leaders malaka like that’s going to be a completely different roster you know and I’m sure you guys know from the makeup of that like say you’re sophomore and like you see hey our top two guys are down it’s going to be a whole different season got
To go and so that’s I’m impressed by the players in the coaching cuz this season Once you lose that confidence I think it’s easy for it to kind of go that direction but they’ve really put the train back on the tracks to to quote Shawn Miller and it’s been impressive
I’m me very impressed with the guy I think Dez is very mentally tough I’ve been very impressed well and like it’s kind of like you know Delaware and Oakland were kind of a you know they were come to Jesus moments for lack of like you have those
Games and St John’s they were there was a point in all three of those games where you looked at the team and you said okay they quit like during that game like and you could see it and like me watching and probably the average fan could just look out and say okay yeah
These guys they quit like the game’s over they’re not going to win and they had every I don’t want to say every reason but they had the opportunity to do to do that this season and they have’t which obviously shows a lot of toughness by the guys a lot of
Experience in the locker room like you think about DJ uh DJ DJ and Dante being being in the locker room those two guys alongside coach Miller having the having that experience and the presence of a season not going great we’ve all had those Seasons I mean I know my senior
Year after the fight you know like all the suspensions we lost we dropped like three in a row lost to Hawaii or whatever it was I can’t remember who we lost to but um you know you have every reason to just be like man this the
Season’s over like we we messed up and like luckily my senior year we didn’t do that and you can tell that these guys have completely bought in they’re back at it they see that they see that like at the end of the tunnel where it’s like
Hey maybe we can go to the tournament maybe we can make some noise in the tournament and I I tweeted about it before I don’t think that just saying making it to the tournament should be what your goal is you know what I mean like you want to grow as noise
BBE we get in we makeing noise yeah but not even just that but just like if you go into the season and your only thought process is we got to make the tournament we got to make the tournament it puts that pressure on you where if you go
Into the season and just say let’s keep getting better and and if going to the tournament is a product of that it’s a lot easier to like kind of let that on go which I feel like you can see they did in the last three or four I don’t
Think that pressure is coming from coaches and players I think that’s all of us coming from yeah that’s all of us that are like we got to go which and I think that comes from last year too because we were so efficient offensively and that I feel like that was an anomaly
Last year um cuz we’ve never had that type of high powerered offense here there’s more so grind out we’re going to be tough defens going the team that punked you in the last 4 minutes and I feel like we’re back to that now now we got to start to
Steal some of these wins and we’ll be right where we want to be yeah and another thing that’s your guys’s fault is our expectations know make it EAS on the former players do though I mean I mean obviously thank you guys but now you have that pressure maybe just from
Like okay Xavier is a sweet 16 Team every year that’s just the expectation whether it’s right or wrong and it doesn’t matter who we put on the floor from a fans perspective that’s what it is right now and I mean Sean in definitely he’s definitely going to get
Xavier back to that level maybe even this year but that is the expectation whether it’s right or wrong you’re not wrong about that we’re definitely competing at a high level and I don’t want to say with less talent I don’t want to offend any of the players we have now but just
Imagine yeah I mean they’re Young young guys first transfers imagine what that looks like a couple years from now where you have an older team that’s tot you know a little bit tougher a Little Bit Stronger you know mentally and physically totally agree totally different ball game I want to take a
Quick second to talk about Quincy can he has the quincin natti shirt on I told him I told I tweet I put it on Twitter after he won the they they beat Cincinnati I said you beat you win you win the shootout I buy the shirt that’s
That’s what who came up to quincin natti by the way for the record that was C W all a all of a sudden the next day after our stream we got quincin natti t-shirts we tweeted it right after it happened everything we got proof love it I don’t
Need the credit it’s all for one baby all for one but I just want to just shout the way he’s just shining and obviously on the floor he’s playing incredibly well but I just love obviously shouts the Nuggets he made the three to get chicken nuggets the other
Night right and just so cool to see him he just has that infectious personality to see him you know delivering like you know nuggets at Chick-fil-A to see him just really own the moment I think Kenny you talked about that earlier like owning the moment just enjoy I think
Quincy is absolutely doing that I’ve seen guys like I feel like malcol Bernard did that ex Xavier just like that smile you know what I mean like they love they love it here was like that exactly especially with the the nil stuff too it’s like I just think it’s
Such a cool time to be a student athlete and Quincy is absolutely taken advantage of every single moment just seems like such a good kid to not kid the only the only thing that I that I can say about Quincy that I wish was better is that he doesn’t have enough elegibility
Seriously I I think that he’s a he embodies what you know the what the coaches in the program in general talk about when you’re being recruited to come to Xavier he embodies that and I just I wish we had some more time with him obviously he’s only got the one year
But you know make make as much of it out of it as you can and just see where we can go but I just I love watching him play when he gets in those moments where he’s shooting the ball just feels like he’s throwing the ball in the ocean man
There oh my God when he shot that three for the Nuggets I was standing up in my living room and I was just like I know that’s it I know it’s it he has prettiest makes man I love this just been so cool seeing him interact with kids and all the
Giveaways and stuff that he’s done and I was telling you guys earlier like I really think that players and Flor players sometimes don’t have a the entire grasp of how meaningful that stuff is to fans and especially with YouTube I wanted to shout you guys out too for being like Ambassador favor
Basketball I mean I mean it’s been you know a good 18 years you know I mean say the number I’m I’m just Kenny’s old Kenny’s old you’re not old Kenny’s old say but I’m saying that from an impressive standpoint of how many guys do this like how many guys are still in
The program all these years and it means a lot to the fans means a lot to the community and I think that Brotherhood I think that’s what makes a special so it means a lot it really does appreciate that we were talking too we I know you
Do a lot of those watch parties and stuff bars and stuff around here we want to you know once we got to get the get the roll BL numbers up a little bit but once we do that we want to do a little uh collab with you do get maybe get a
Podcast into a place before we’ll do uh and then get a big watch party you know take take care of some drinks and stuff like that like that would be that would be legit man is that like the watch part you had last year at I mean rest in
Peace House of orange but uh that watch party you guys had it was like I mean what was it we we probably had 15 we filled the whole and outside it was ridiculous doc rocks but uh yeah so I mean it’s just been it’s been a lot of fun to to get
Back into this and obviously Miller coming back makes things a lot easier for me um you know it you know I’m not not airing any dirty laundry and I’m not going to get into it but uh you know when I was leaving didn’t necessarily leave on the on the greatest of terms um
But you know having having that feeling of family back and just being able to come back to games and having the office you know the people in the office Mario and all those guys um it’s just been a lot of fun to get back into it and then
You know I watch all the Xavier games anyway and you know a year ago and I went on the I came on the road BL podcast and I hit him up like two weeks after I was like yo how about like do you mind if I just come on and be a host
With you guys cuz like all I do is watch the games anyway and I’m just screaming at the TV myself Crazy by himself you Me by yourself you’re going out of your freaking mind this man was texting me at like 1:30 in the morning paragraphs about the podcast my girlfriend’s like
Who you texting like Kenny free she’s like yeah okay my it’s Kenny free he’s texting me about the podcast right now um You Remember when he like when we did the podcast with Kenny and it was over you know we just talk after I was like
He we may never hear from him ever again that’s what we were thinking like he probably hates us I I remember I dm’d you and I said hey do you want to hop on the podcast just cuz I like watching you play and and then I think it took a little bit
For you to reply and you uh yeah we’ll see and then you dm’ the RO blob account I saw this other day CU I was going through our DMS on Ro blob and you said are you that one guy that asked me about a podcast so I’m I should tweet that and
Say how it started how it’s going type of deal right but hey we’ve got doc Rock we’ve got a celebrity guest in here doc you have any questions for Kenny or key Jackson how do you like the way the season well we we touched we on it a
Little bit but you know ups and downs man we’re you know we’re on the upswing right now so yeah like to beat spread today that I think algorithm or you’re looking at Vegas depends on if georgetown’s wearing gray or not if Georgetown wears gray then we a them yeah then we kill him
Yeah absolutely batteries try to yeah B I work for US Bank um in Investment Services and then I train kids for basketball I have Action Jackson training yeah um so I work with a lot of like 12 year olds and younger my twins are seven so that’s kind of why
I started just I just love giving back and coaching and just helping pass my knowledge on since I don’t do it anymore smiling oh that any the ball speaking of we were talking about that that’s part of what I was going to say about about um
Is the energy he brings I feel like we’re flat because de doesn’t necessarily show a lot of emotion Davon is is it’s dead dead when you talk to him in person he he smiles like is nothing like so you need somebody that’s going to provide life
The way Davon and Dez are playing off each other it’s like a onew p absolutely absolutely they really playing well yeah yeah it took it took it took the new guys a while to get that flow that’s what Kenny was saying about Dez and like I just don’t think they were
Complimenting each other cuz like Dez and Quincy are a great combination here and I think or Kenny was just saying that rooll development and watching them play off each other we’re starting to see that now just real quick speaking of Action Jackson I remember last time we
Talked it was about I mean when we talked about it about you know eight months ago and you were just kind of starting it up then right yeah how’s it going now it slowed all the way down my I started coaching my son at the friers
Club shout out to the friar Club here locally um and so I I started with their first grade team and now I’m coaching the second grade team and I grew up playing there myself so it’s kind of heating up all that extra time I thought
I was going to have my daughter is in ballet um and and ballet and tap and Hip-Hop so my son does hip-hop as well so it’s seven days a week with with all this stuff man so I really don’t have the time now that their season’s winding
Out I I hope to get back into it and get back in what your job down proba pretty demanding it’s yeah that’s 9 to5 so soon as is my other job which is my kids but you got you got to figure the training portion of it especially will start
Start to pick back up again once basketball season over right where do you do your training at um it’s a gymp called Make it Rain Over in Newport okay um a really nice facility it’s pretty much training over it’s it’s they have the guns the shooting machines yes okay yeah um another Zer
Guy Miles Davis trains there um so we got a we got a couple Zer guys in in the building there what uh like what’s where can they reach you do you have a website you got yeah it’s ax andjon training.com I haven’t updated it yet but my Instagram name is a Jackson traininga
Instagram um yes Aon Jackson training so please reach out if you want some hops I can’t that a lot of that came naturally he can you help Kenny with his free throws Kenny probably shot free throws better than me I was like career like 67% really we should what was your what
Was your free throw Sage K you know what man I don’t even know I don’t want to talk about it my freshman year my freshman year I was at like 7580 and it slowly went downhill my dad talked about that all the time man I only shooting one or two free
Throws a game so you know my first one is with the nerves like squeezing the ball like all right we’re good our very first our very first game against uh Wisconsin in the in tournament my freshman year it was the same thing you know like I had a really good I had I
Had a really really good I had a really like defensively Everything I Wasn’t scoring a lot but I had a really good game defensively rebounding blah blah but I got up to the free throw line that first one of the inent tournament and I felt like I
Couldn’t control my hands and I’m like I’m dribbling the ball I go up and I banked in the first one like I remember I remember laughing and B like BJ stayed right over here to my on the you know Lan line and I was laughing and he was like what the [ __ ] is
Funny you watching TV with saav fan and we’re doing a away game and it’ll be a close game very competitive game an important game and when Z guys get up and miss a free throw and and the fan will go well how can he miss that and
They’re shooting in to the other team f kids screaming and yelling girls doing what you know doing all that stuff and they going how can you I think you go down there and try you don’t take into consideration the de perception too because a lot of times playing in the
Georgia Dome and like man our best shooters were s was airballing K like how close is this room because there’s no fact well and especially going from high school especially going from high school when it’s then you come here and it’s like nothing behind it and you go
To the Georgia like we played Georgia my senior year for the N tournament and it’s like I mean there’s 100t between the basket and the wall and there’s no fans behind it because the Chely AJ fan I’m always want to share with a couple sa players
Atlanta plan to go to the final four had a broken leg I his own crutches you know and I looked down and there was a r DAV alni basketball player like 10 of yeah you talk half of NBA play 2004 yeah Tyrone Hill it was everybody was there
Man and I thought man that is you don’t see that yeah and I think we this is another conversation that we’ve had on another podcast as well but I think that that stems all the way down to fans like when you go to Xavier as a as a student
You leave Xavier as a if you didn’t come here as a basketball fan you leave as a basketball fan like I would say I would say the percentage is 95 to 100% And to see that fan base grow like that you know every single year you you’re gaining a thousand fans like every
Single year and that’s that’s not the case with like you know Ohio State you know you might go to Ohio State and become a football fan but you’re not going to Ohio State and necessarily becoming a basketball fan or whatever whatever school it is I just feel like
Xavier in general has a really good way of bringing the bringing students in and then as you grow older and people I mean Cincinnati’s like a black hole man people come here they don’t leave there’s so much there’s so I mean you’re connected to the world in Cincinnati so
People end up staying here they you know they become season ticket holders and then you know the season ticket holders have a I mean I don’t even know what it is now but I know when I was here there was like a years and years long waiting
List to get season I waser in 1965 okay and I went there for basketball yeah wow and Steve Thomas played the year before I went there and he was the national scor champion and I was so excited about seeing him play in person and back then at the old field like
This and and and you can go to the game sit right down on the floor and I’m down there Steve Thomas gets the ball goes down the court lo oh oh man you know what that was that was heartbreaking yeah I bet yeah and have you guys heard
Of Carol Williams right he was an all he was an all American quarterback black quarterback at Xavier the best at that time the best black quarterback in all the NFL back then was Canada but anyway he they back then they had like an Allstar student team play the
Freshman team oh jeez right because freshman couldn’t play back there right and Carol Williams played on the team that played the basketball players scored 40 oh my god wow couldn’t stop the quarterback that’s a CO athlete right there right but a lot of guys with when I was there in the 60s basketball
Yeah yeah well I’ll tell you what we’re talking about the difference between what zavier was from when I was there to now and when you were there to now I mean doc you had the time from when you came to school here to where Xavier is now facilities wise
Wow I spoke my first joint on the way to a to a g back you had to go you know down well this wasn’t last year like I don’t know what this is this is and I remember sitting down on the floor and the ball roll over to me and
It seemed like it was coming so slow but I picked it up and a referee want me to give it to her and Mel ke played for Nova he was L missed him by 20 that ball was definitely not going slow that thing was smoking that good stuff speak
Basketballs this is a commission by the RO blob podcast we got a basketball here signed by everybody you got coach Miller right how does the camera go right there you got Quincy he decided to take up a whole section but as he should we got it’s signed by the whole team uh we’re
Going to be giving this away on the RO blob Twitter here so make sure you keep an eye out for that over the next couple weeks uh probably I’m saying probably end of January we’ll give it away give it a couple weeks dud we’ll get a big
Post yeah so you know just be on the lookout for that it’s a sick Xavier basketball I might keep it myself honestly yeah yeah yeah we probably won’t fix it we’ll see but are we not ring these giveaways so we win I’m about to say I I want
The yeah follow uh Ro blob pod on Twitter uh you’ll see it we’ll tweeted out retweeted all that good stuff and uh always a 50/50 chance you win you either will or you won’t you’re not wrong do you want me to start talking to fans and seeing if we
Have any fan questions or anything like that be right if we don’t get hean in here he’s going oh that’s a problem ski goggles for this dude with the snow and everything like got to get him in here but yeah so I mean glad I am Dr Ro you broke broke the ice
Man you can do what you want around here you seen Dr Rock on Twitter well I seen him on musketeer reporter oh yeah oh yeah yeah name muskete he’s he’s a regular Ian on brand just went to go get a drink so he should be right gotcha
Gotcha gotcha so I mean you got anything else you want to talk about guys I mean other than the fan stuff actually one more thing about Quincy I know we’ve said his name a lot more than our own today but uh one thing I think that is
Working well for him embracing Xavier so much is transferring from rice and no knock on rice but I think when you come from a school where yeah they have a basketball team they probably have fans and everything like that but then you come to some place like Xavier you just
Appreciate it like 10 times more so I don’t that’s not a question that’s just a I had want to take a seat come on in come on in has been requested oh Lord and frame this is like the Pat McAfee of the show right we got we’ got the flannel uh blue and
Yellow people forget that Xavier color mus got the Black Hawks hat we got the ski goggles I how you feeling cold bro that walk over here was cold man let me tell you thank God I had the goggles but you know I’m uh I’m feeling good I’m
Feeling good about this game um you know I don’t think George sounds too good home floor I think we’ll be okay here what I feel like we would be remiss if we didn’t open up a little live mailbag yeah oh God Live Mail freyle we put on our mail bag and he
Sends us like 35 questions all right here we go so so we’re going to do we’re going to do a 515 20 challenge all three of you all four of you can answer the five is or you can assign it but the numbers are going to be assigned to you
