The University of Georgia’s Greek Life Office and The Blood Connection hosted another successful blood drive on January 18th, 2024. This was the third blood drive held this academic year by these community partners.
As an incentive to donate, donors were given $30 in eGift card rewards, as well as a Blood Connection tumbler. In addition to these items, UGA Miracle received a $20 donation for each donor.
A total of 264 units of blood were collected at the blood drive. As a result, UGA Miracle received a donation from The Blood Connection totaling over $5,000.
“UGA Miracle is so grateful for this donation from The Blood Connection. As we approach the 29th annual Dance Marathon at the end of February, these funds will be so helpful as we start to cover the costs of merchandise, food, and the facility,” said Graduate Assistant for UGA Miracle Abby Langdon.
In the weeks leading up to the blood drive, the Greek Life Office and The Blood Connection worked together to promote the event and connect with potential donors. Over 300 appointments were scheduled for the blood drive and walk-in appointments were available throughout the day. Each of these donors will have a direct impact on their community.
The Greek Life Office is grateful to the UGA community who continues to show up and make these blood drives so successful, as well as UGA Miracle and Lambda Chi Alpha who tabled for the event at the Tate Student Center.
“The members of our organization are strong advocates for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and are working to change kids’ health and the future of pediatric medicine. We are excited to connect with The Blood Connection, another local organization that works to save lives and whose community values align with our own,” said Langdon.
Hosting a blood drive is a wonderful opportunity to help your community and is as helpful as donating blood. If your organization is interested in hosting a Blood Connection blood drive, please visit bloodconnection.org/host for more information.
