The plan is to do a live stream every other Monday so today’s topic is American culture and it looks like we have some viewers yay hello viewers hello my students and viewers I’m going to pop in a hello hopefully that’ll yeah it looks like that works too okay
Great so as I said our topic is on American culture and American culture is incred ibly diverse and it’s shaped by a complex history and it has the blendings of different groups of people and it’s committed to individual freedoms right so while there’s an essential to recognize the diversity within the
United States there are certain aspects that are often associated with American culture and one term that was popular when I was a kid when I was growing up was the the United States being referred to as the Melting Pot and I don’t know Brad have
You heard of this term The Melting Pot I absolutely have uh my background is in history and like many other Americans uh my family came through Ellis Island or in my specific case the Mayflower uh what what side of the Mayflower do you know I mean uh both both
Sides okay so both my mother and my father I’m a direct descendant from Governor Bradford who was on the Mayflower yep uh miles uh I think it’s John Alden and Priscilla Mullen for me oh okay okay Mullen interesting so yeah all these different people trying to come to this one land
To fill it up right now I don’t know if I agree with the term as we have it today as a Melting Pot um we do still have a lot of different ethnic groups and um I I think America’s is becoming more of a a country where just a lot of
Different people from different countries come but I don’t think it’s a Melting Pot is it like melting cultures I think I think we still I think if you go to the US today I think you still find Greek toown and chinat town and Little Italy and you find these little
And I I don’t I don’t see that as a Melting Pot as such I could see that I mean I consider myself from New York so yeah little Little Chinatown definitely um and I think in New York I think I remember reading somewhere English is only the
Third spoken language of the city so I think there is more interest in holding on to cultural identity in in 2024 than there was in say 1924 or 1854 um the American culture is characterized by a strong emphasis on individualism and that’s why I kind of disagree with
The Melting Pot term um we have personal freedoms personal well self-expression uh the pursuit of individual goals they’re highly valued I mean if you’re doing something yay I’m doing this well um this is reflected in what we call the American dream the idea that everyone can achieve Success Through hard work and
Determination but I don’t know the American dream are we still using that term today do you think I mean I I hear it commonly um I don’t know if it’s necessarily true I mean for every success story there are who knows how many not so successful stories but I do
Think it’s a very key part of American society and American culture it’s indelible very important and I think this came from a time when a lot a lot of immigrants were coming to the US to find you know work and to uh make a a life in the
US but I don’t know if it still should be called the dream I think you can find a lot of freedoms in other countries um you know we’ve got other countries that are are doing quite well and health care for example uh I’ve spent a little time in the hospital last
Week and well it just had a little bit of problems with the heart but everything’s fine I’m okay okay but the cost I couldn’t believe that that the cost of everything that I had done in the hospital you know came to about $200 and and the rest is free because
That’s the cap and and that’s a dream so so I I think that you can achieve things with hard work I agree with that but but I don’t know if it’s an American Dream now with that with all that’s going on okay well aside from that let’s talk
About cultural icons sure um who are your favorite iconic musicians in the US my favorite iconic musicians uh yeah has produced many globally recognized icons uh in various fields including like Entertainment Sports technology and politics well we don’t talk about politics here let’s not let’s not do that but Hollywood films iconic
Musicians um who are your favorite iconic musicians we’ll start with the musicians um well I’m trying to think because a lot of my favorites are actually from the UK like uh s in Phil am culture i aware um I would say that I like uh like rock
Bands from the 70s and 80s just anything from that period which of course defines the genre okay any groups any specific groups um it’s it’s it’s hard for me because like I like the music so much that like I can’t really pick a favorite what about
You I I loved Air Supply oh my gosh I loved the group Air Supply and Chicago those two are my favorite Chicago Chicago is good Aerosmith is good Aros Smith I I preferred Air Supply okay my roommate in college really liked darl Smith my roommate in college liked
Marilyn Manson oh that was horrible she had this big picture this big poster uh on the wall and every morning I would wake up to this ugly poster it was just oh it was horrible I made her I asked I asked her if she would move it yeah but
Uh yeah I also like Sher I like some of her songs and uh Cindy Lopper oh Cindy Lopper yep I love Cindy loer time after time yeah yeah loves the new offer I also like Boy George he’s okay I like Boy George but uh I didn’t realize until I got a
Little older that I was singing some of his songs wrong I heard the lyrics differently I was wait that are those the words oops I I remember growing up I would I would frequently mishear the lyrics of songs um and like for example there’s one song it’s about a beer order I think
It’s One Bourbon One Scotch and one beer and as a kid I thought the guy wanted Burbank California a guy named Scott and a beer so it it did happen that I could mishar the words yeah yeah what about sports I’m not I’ve never been a big fan of sports um NE I
Usually ended up watching whatever my boyfriend at the time was into but uh I’m I’m not into sports me neither um my father though was a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox for baseball uh the New York Rangers for hockey and the New York Giants for football American
Football right we have a lot of things uh a lot of um acronyms so for example we have uh the National Football League is the NFL the Major League Baseball is MLB and National Basketball Association NB a and what was theey League NHL National Hockey League NH I knew I forgot
One um we can’t we can’t talk about American culture without talking about food yum yum yeah American Cuisine is diversed and it’s been influenced by various cultures uh we have fast food food barbecue and Regional Specialties like TexMex and New England clam chowder which I new clam chowder um so we have a
Lot of different types of foods and it plays a central role in our social Gatherings and our celebrations so would you agree that most people think the American food culture is fast food I’m going to say some foods oh I’m going to say some
Foods are I don’t know if a lot of our students will know some of the fast food chains but what about would you would you agree that people think American food is is American food culture is fast food would you agree with that I would say so yeah
And um I I live in the Czech Republic the capital of Prague and students will frequently point out to me that like every other building now has a KFC McDonald’s or a Starbucks so it’s everywhere and they are also surprised by the size of the portions uh because like the drink that
You get like a KFC is a sippy cup compared to the medium in in in a restaurant in New York and so I can see why there is kind of this negative uh connection or concept of American fast food do you have a favorite fast food M uh
Pizza if we’re talking about uh chains I probably prefer KFC okay they have uh because they they have mac and cheese which I I really like and they do something over here I think it’s regional called the Cito which is like a quesadilla so it’s quite good
What do you like Ellie well when I lived in the states my favorite uh two I would say would be uh KFC and Taco Bell or taco hell as we used to call it I don’t know if I want to know but I remember the uh Little Chihuahua that’s
Right uh yeah but now I haven’t I haven’t eaten fast food in I don’t know how many years I would say at least 10 or 15 years we we where I live in in in the town that I live we don’t have like fast food chains in the city
Center outside of this outside of the city we have one McDonald’s that’s it there’s one McDonald’s but you have to go way outside of the city into the industrial park area wow and the only fast food chain that we have I would say is Subway and I don’t I don’t really
Think that is being fast food but I guess it is considered fast food I mean that’s the only one because the the city center said no no fast food we want the people to go to the local businesses so so if you go outside to the major cities you’ll find fast food
But in our town just Subway well I mean I’m not surprised I I remember that in New York they’ve forbidden Walmart to be in the five burrows because they want those small chain you know they want the m and pop kind of stores but obviously the rents and other stores
Are still being a problem for them right we don’t have a Walmart or or large outlet store here either not even Tesco NOP Tesco’s big here oh yeah no we don’t have Tesco no we we have Ikea but we have a few Ikeas yeah yeah we don’t have Ikea here but apparently one
Is coming soon or in the works but we don’t even we have Ikea but it’s not in our town we have to go out like a major city yeah we we have an Ikea but we have to go like to the very edge of Prague if
If we want to go to it so I’ve only been like once yeah okay so we’re going to play a game I’m going to say some foods and you tell me what holiday they’re associated with in America okay sure all right now I had pictures of these but somehow they got lost if
But you’re going to see the screen in 54 3 2 1 so hopefully I know we’re on a little bit of a delay um you’ll see colored eggs when you when you when you hear the words colored eggs uh what do you think of what what holiday I think of Easter yeah that’s
Right Easter and and and when I was a kid they would hide these plastic eggs and inside the plastic eggs you might find some coins some money or some candy um we had these plastic eggs that you you twist apart and there was something inside it mhm um what are some
Things that you did during the Easter holiday well uh I was in a non-religious family so we didn’t do any of the religious elements of Easter but what my mom and dad would do is that they would take these eggs and they would fill them with candy or quarters or I think once
Or twice a little toy and they would hide them throughout the house house and then Amy my sister and I would have to find them and we we would only be allowed like an equal number so like my my parents say okay you both get 11 eggs and go from
There we we had um we had Easter baskets so when we were kids we had to find our Easter basket it was somewhere outside or somewhere in the house um we did go to church we had Easter Sunday where we would dress up in our Easter dresses and when we were when
I when I was really little I wore an Easter little Bonnet I’ve got a picture somewhere of me I don’t I think it was about two with a little Easter hat the Lily yeah so so we did um do the whole religious holiday church and Easter eggs we had an
Easter egg hunt at church yeah um what about hot dogss and potato salad that would be the 4th of July or just any old day in the summer hot dogs and potato Sal salad the uh the the our neighbors across the street uh they’re very close
Friends of my my mother they would have a barbecue every fourth of July and we’d go over there and he he does very good burgers very good hot dogs so it was a nice way to spend the fourth yeah the other thing that um people eat on the 4th of July is baked
Beans I don’t like baked beans made with ketchup they’re made with ketchup and and kidney beans which e no thank you um my mother doesn’t like beans um I’m okay with them uh especially since I’m like I have cooking as a hobby I don’t think I’ve ever
Really liked baked beans though I think my father did but um yeah I’m not like oh I gotta have some baked beans yeah uh sometimes um people made it with barbecue sauce that was but yeah I’m I’m not a big fan of baked beans uh and if I say turkey and mashed potatoes
Thanksgiving right if we think of turkey and mashed I’m just showing um uh pictures for students that don’t know what mashed potatoes are I think most of us do um but yeah turkey and mashed potatoes definitely a Thanksgiving treat what other foods do you eat during Thanksgiving pumpkin pie
My uh my grandmother my grandmother made a very good pumpkin pie and it’s one of my earliest memories that she make the pumpkin pie and that’s what I would be really excited about um the other the other thing that I uh connect with Thanksgiving with food is the Cito I mentioned earlier because
Being halfway around the world I don’t go uh to the US often so every Thanksgiving I go to KFC because it’s from America it’s got It’s got bird it’s got potato it counts and it’s it’s become a joke with my students it’s become a joke with my
Students Brad did you go to KFC yes we we well because I don’t live in the states we don’t celebrate uh thank Thanksgiving here um for Christmas though I serve turkey and mashed potatoes so instead in of doing a whole Thanksgiving meals and you celebrate
That here uh we kind of I kind of moved Thanksgiving dinner to Christmas because what’s traditionally served at Christmas time uh I mean for my family we switched it up but I would think like baked ham yeah or a pot roast yeah yeah oh pot roast that’s interesting yeah and for those that
Don’t know what a pot roast is pot roast is a side of beef that’s been uh slowly cooked in an oven or a slow cooker with uh vegetables My grandmother used to make a great pot roast she used to make a great pot pot roast I don’t do meat anymore I’m more I
Have a more of a vegetarian pescatarian diet so I don’t do this I do indulge in Turkey because I love turkey but other than that I don’t really eat meat I add chicken to everything yeah I I used to but now now it’s when I was still living in New York I would
Actually ask the restaurant hey could I have chicken with this and they’d go back and they come and say yeah for $2 I’d be like yeah sure so I’m going to there yeah I don’t like ham I I I never cared for it too salty but um traditionally we made it with pineapples
And cherries and I don’t like cherries either glazed yeah yeah a glazed H I don’t remember right I don’t remember ever having it with pineapples and cherries I just remember like the big lump of ham and we would cut it up ah have you ever had
Spam I have yeah I don’t remember it but I have had it I’ve had it too and I was like I don’t remember it either um it was canned meat and thinking about it now it’s sounds disgusting well of course now I’m thinking of a a Monty Python sketch about spam
Oh yeah and and one of the you would love it because one of the menu choices is baked beans with Spam yeah exactly no no no we have besides Christmas what would you say the biggest holiday is in the US I mean I think it depends on how
We’re defining big like if you’re talking about uh like spectacle I would say the Fourth of July if you’re talking about everybody coming together I would talk about uh Halloween not Halloween excuse me uh Thanksgiving if you’re talking about like America I.E commercialism I would probably say Valentine’s Day or one of
Those uh manufactured holidays I speaking of Valentine’s Day I just uploaded a Valentine’s short so on Valentine’s Day uh I you’ll see a video or a short about Valentine’s things you can say instead of I love you on Valentine’s Day it was fun to do it was
Fun to do um for me I think it’s the fourth of July we’ve got fireworks we’ve got food we’ve got people getting together we get people getting drunk and stupid so and I think major holiday I think of of of our fourth of of July but did you know that there’s something
Called a juneth national Independence Day in the US we have two national Independence days I didn’t know that um but apparently June 19th or they call it juneth national Independence Day right juneth yeah yeah I I I I found that we have two and I will post a link in the
Description box below giving you more information on juneth National Independence Day telling you more about that um because I I I did not know but have you ever s celebrated juneth uh I have not but I I know what it is yeah I don’t know if anybody who celebrates it
Well I mean it’s it’s probably not as commonly known as other American holidays I mean I think if it were more commonly known it’d probably be more celebrated yeah and I’m not sure well the reason why we have it it’s is because on June 19th uh 1865 the freedom freedom finally came
During that time so the Army announced that more than 250 thousand enslaved black people in the United States were freed by executive decree so that’s why we have June 19th so I did not know that yeah so that day uh became juneth but I’ll post a link in the
Description box below there’s a lot of information on it one thing we have is the dark a dark history about slavery yes and that’s part of our American culture too both the history itself and how Americans engage or don’t engage with that history right right let’s talk a little bit about
Technology United States is a global leader in technology and Innovation I don’t I I think Japan has one up on us on that but uh I mean I have a Nintendo switch I don’t have a like you know us system so well when I think of technology I
Think of Silicon Valley region there in California it’s renowned for being the Hub of technology and advancements and we have applesoft Microsoft applesoft I say applesoft applesoft apple applesoft apple Microsoft soft Google’s there yep so they’ve had a quite an impact globally as well but I also think
Japan has a lot on that as well Japan yeah I mean if if I think technology I tend to think Japan or Korea yeah you I think I think Japan with our all the anime and all of the games games they have the video games I
Mean they have I’m not a gamer so I couldn’t list off a lot of I am Mario Pokemon Zelda I’ve played Zelda actually back in college I played Zelda friend of mine is a big fan of the franchise ah right right I’m more of a Mario person myself but he really likes
Zelda are you an apple person or are you a Mac or PC person I’m remembering Those ads ads way back when I’m a Mac and I’m a PC uh well it it’s interesting because uh I’m speaking to you uh and your students on an iPhone right now so obviously that’s
Mac is or at least Apple but in terms of my computers I have an HP so I would be PC so I’m both I’m both today I set up my Apple laptop so I could see that we were live and make sure that it’s running um we
Had a little bit of a problem last last our last live stream it didn’t record so so I’m using both as well I prefer I prefer a PC though Mac has a lot of restrictions can’t download this can’t download that and there’s a kind of a learning curve if you’re not used to
Using a a Mac I mean I remember using Mac in grade school um but then it just PC just kind of took over my issue with Apple products is that they are very very expensive so um I prefer to stick with PC for computers I I I remain you know an
IPhone user uh but otherwise Apple products are just too expensive that’s true y you can get them refer refurb yeah yeah I think if I had a choice um I i’ prefer getting a new pc versus a refurbished one though uh yeah me definitely uh because
My experience was my father got me a refurbished uh PC for college and it was a like it was so bad it was deleting it self it would delete its own critical files and I had to like reboot it manually just to get it started again so no I don’t really want refurbished
Ones well another let’s talk a little bit about volunteering um it seems that part of American culture is on volunteering or helping helping others uh I was the executive director for for Habitat for Humanity for 5 years in Isabella County and uh we Built Homes for low-income
Families and then we would sell these homes to them at a fair price that they could afford so it gave them a chance to own their own home at at a price that they could afford and there are a lot of and I was also involved in Big Brothers Big Sisters
Where you Mentor uh children so there are a lot of different organizations in the US um have you ever done any volunteering um I’ve done limited I did limited stuff uh like you know clean up this park or uh or as part of the ceremony we
Have to do this but uh I’m afraid I didn’t do anything like Habitat for Humanity um I think you would like that lot of Hands-On you know hammering and sawing and painting I don’t know I mean I prefer models and Lego when I have to build something not actual house all right
Some smaller okay well when I think of of volunteer work I think of habitat and Big Brothers Big Sisters those two I I enjoyed working with I enjoyed working with both organiz gations MH what about we can’t talk about American culture without talking about college you’ve mentioned College University
Um were you part of the Greek uh fraternity or sorority or fraternity I was I wasn’t in sorority but were you in a fraternity I had zero interest in that yeah uh I uh nor same with my roommate uh I was in like an Honor Society but I
Can’t even remember the name now uh it was but it was for history okay F fi Alpha Theta or fi Theta Alpha I think um but yeah no I had zero interest in in in frats or anything like that I did a video on sorority and
Frat life and I’ll post the link in the description box below if any of you out there want to watch uh a video on sorority and frat sororities and fraternities college life yeah I I I I’m the same way I wasn’t interested in the Greek life or the the pledging and the
The different Traditions they had I I F I found all of that to me a little bit overwhelming like it seemed like a lot of work and I was there to try to get an education in class um I mean I didn’t have much problem staying focused on my schoolwork
Because that’s what I wanted to do uh but I really I don’t like socializing I’m I’m a bit I’m an introvert so I didn’t really have much interest in the fraternities either well I’m more I’m more of an ex extrovert I like socializing I like
Going out but I I I didn’t like the idea that they had set parties and set functions and it was too to it was too much I was like no I hate to study and I like uh having my own schedule yeah no I I uh my roommate was
The same way um and uh we had great great time together socializing whether it was watching movies or trying to get a banana split somewhere in town and we couldn’t find one and he went a little crazy about it but otherwise uh no it was it was it was
Good uh just to socialize with him and a couple other people one of my students asked me if I ever went to an arcade um where you played pinball and different games I I did I actually went to an arcade we had one in our in our at
Our Mall yep and I did go there a few times not very often um but it it was it was fun did you go to an arcade I never went to one but like you I remember them in the local mall um if if I wanted to do
Gaming I prefer doing it on my uh PC or on a console yeah we didn’t really we had an we had an Atari but we didn’t really have you know the gaming that they have today and I don’t know I don’t think they have arcades anymore
Uh here in Prague we have one or two like retro specialty arcades okay um but like you yeah my my my dad had the Atari and then he got me the SNES and then he got me the Nintendo 64 and then when I was living in New
York I got myself the Wii and the PS3 and now I have the PS4 and the switch so I I’m a much more of a gamer than both you and and he was and and what about comic books when I think of American culture I think of Superman and Wonder Woman and
American Wonder Woman uh yeah I have a friend who’s a very big fan of Wonder Woman and uh he he’s got me to like her too um I prefer like certain stories or uh runs by an artist with a with a character that I like as opposed to everything because comic books have
Been going on for so long what usually happens is someone comes in and then changes everything and uh but uh if I have to choose between the two big companies I’m I’m more of a DC person yeah okay I I don’t have a preference for
Either one I was a big Wonder Woman fan when I was a kid I did like Wonder Woman and bionic woman was my favorite though I I was I am amused about Marvel uh because like everything happens in New York like whenever there’s some sort of Intergalactic force it immediately heads
For New York and starts messing things up and you know I’ve joked with uh my students that that version of me moved to Prague because he was tired of all the superhero fighting not because he wanted to try something new right right right what about hunting a lot of my students are always
Fascinated or interested in hunting my my dad a hunter he has uh some acreage where they where the whole family goes hunting um now for those that are vegans and vegetarians the this is um hunting to eat the meat it’s not trophy hunting so anything they kill they do use
Everything so it’s not it’s not wasted and in Michigan they have a high population of deer and it’s a way to reduce the population so that the roads are safer because when you hit a deer let me tell you it can be dangerous especially if you’re going really fast
And they’ve upped the speed limit now to 75 miles per hour down the highway that’s fast and I even worse I can’t even imagine if you’re doing over the speed limit 80 85 and you hit a deer I I don’t even want to think about it I’ve
Hit a deer once um but I just nicked it I just it it kind of jumped over the hood so I had a little bit of damage but I was going 25 miles hour I was on a residential road and it scared the Daylights out of me I was so frightened
And I felt so bad but I can’t imagine going down a highway and hitting a deer at that speed so my my dad hunts because it helps reduce the population makes the road safer and like I said we do use the whole animal um but students are fascinated by that
They think that all Americans have guns uh what about your family um hun do you have guns I and my family have zero interest in guns um my father told me like when he was a kid he went hunting I think with a great uncle who was a World War Two
Veteran and he was showing my father that he had like captured German rifles so they still had like you know the the the the Nazi Insignia on it but that’s the closest I ever got to being interested because that was history um otherwise I have no interest in guns I
Have no no desire to own aun uh but yeah guns come up a lot in discussions especially when recent events happen uh and it is also over here this common con conception that all Americans like guns and have guns yeah the first question I get is
How many guns your does your dad have does he have this kind of gun or that kind of gun and and yeah so that’s something that’s in our family but it’s not in all American Homes not all families have guns I don’t have a gun y um I’m not interested in
Hunting either because I I love animals and I look at the animal oh I can’t do it I cry so I I couldn’t do it I couldn’t I uh my father liked fishing and I was like I I was crying because I had to kill the worm so um we never went
Fishing again after that we just used life we just used fake bait oh I I I like to I like to fish um I have been fishing I went fishing in nicaragu actually um aad Del Soul actually and I was the only female on board the the
Little boat that we had and I cut the most fish brag very good uh but yeah I I don’t mind fishing I think oh people are going to hate me for saying this but fish are stupid and ugly and deserve to be eaten I see I’m gonna get hate maal on
That I know I will what what about television that’s also a big thing with American culture I got rid of my TV because I lost the remote okay I I don’t I don’t watch much TV anymore either um but uh you know a lot of my students are always talking
About watching The Walking Dead Or Game of Thrones or How I Met Your Mother um I myself am really into Star Trek uh so American TV is also a big cultural thing is it is it big in Sweden as well no no it’s more Tik Tok and YouTube and those things it’s
Not uh we don’t have a TV here um no no point um we we enjoy YouTube and and that gives us we we also have Netflix so that’s for entertainment and and we have the Disney Channel because I like some of the shows they have there Disney Plus or just the
Disney Channel uh Disney plus yeah Disney plus that that’s a very popular streaming service here as well I I got hooked on Home Improvement and Last Man Standing Home Improvement wow I I was a kid when that was coming out yeah so they have it here they’re showing it now
So I got kind of hooked on that speaking of fishing I was looking for my for my um fishing photos when I was in Nicaragua and found this one t ah no makeup no makeup hair is a mess but I caught a fish you look very proud
Of yourself though I was proud of myself and and then I ended up having to cook all the fish M so you probably weren’t so happy and There’s yeah no I I couldn’t do that uh like here in the Czech Republic the big Christmas meal is carp and it’s tradition to have it swimming in the bathtub and then you uh and then you you kill it you kill it so it’s yeah yeah I
I I’m not a big fan of karp either it’s got a lot of Bones and yeah I didn’t like I don’t like the bones either yeah I do miss cichi when I lived in Costa Rica we had cichi I miss cichi I like cichi that’s um a fish with with onions
And tomatoes and in a in a lemon kind of a juice combination for those that don’t know what CV she it’s something like that they have some sort of fish usually shrimp um or a white fish like a Cod or or some sort of white
Fish I I’ve tried cooking fish but it it isn’t quite right for me i’ either I overcook the heck out of it or I undercook it so I gotta figure out how to get it right I I like fish I I don’t eat fish very
Often uh like I said I I eat um turkey once a year I didn’t eat it last year um and I have sushi on occasion but my diet’s basically vegetarian okay well um that’s going to end it for the American culture but I want to talk a little bit about what
We’re doing for our next live stream which is going to be in February on the 12th now February 12th we’re going to be talking about reading and reading comprehension and how to improve your reading reading comprehension I am asking you if you’re watching this now or in the live stream
Repeat um that I’m going to give you some homework and that is to watch or listen to um a story that I posted called the Magi and the The Gift of the Magi I’m going to post the I’m going to post the link in the description box below
But I’d like for you to watch H there you go uh watch and listen and and read along to the gift of the mangi and I copied the link I was going to post I realized that we’re on we’re on live stream um but I’ll post the link
In the description box below and if you could watch listen to that we’re going to be discussing that story it’s a nice story now technically it’s a Christmas story but it’s a love story so it’s a combination of a Christmas love story and I figure since it’s Valentine’s Day
It’s a great story um for Valentine’s Day in that it’s a love story and I I I think it’s a it’s a it’s a good story it’s not the the vocabulary is not that difficult there there are some things that kind of we call Old English that we don’t use but for the
Most part the the language is intermediate so if you’re a basic student or let’s say a to or we’ll say yeah I would say A2 to B2 a A2 B1 B2 levels it this is a great story for you if you’re an advanced student that’s fine too um
Um it it’s just a really nice story so if you have the opportunity to listen or read this story um before our next live session session um that would be great because we’re going to be discussing it we’re going to be discussing how you can um improve your comprehension of this story
And Brad’s got some great tips on on on that right yeah you once told me that you you were pretty good at helping people with their reading comprehension well I try yeah so you’re going to want to come back if you’re looking to improve your vocabulary reading comprehension um you definitely want to
Come back to the next live stream that’s going to be on Monday February 12th 11:30 same time during your lunch hour you’re not going to want to miss it I hope to see you see you then Brad do you have any closing goodbyes nope just uh I wish your
Students well and I hope they have a good two weeks and thanks to those that came today and watched and I hope you’ll come back again on the 12th February 12th thanks for watching and thanks to those who are watching after it’s live and after it’s live too that’s right all
