Of God A reading from the book of wisdom The Souls of the just are in the hand of God and no torment shall touch them they seemed in the view of the foolish to be dead and their past passing away was thought and affliction and they’re going forth from us utter destruction but they
Are in peace for if in the eyes of men indeed they be punished yet it is their hope full of immortality chastised a little they shall be greatly blessed because God tried them and found them worthy of himself as go as gold in the furnace he proved them and as sacrificial offerings
He took them to himself those who trust in him shall understand truth and the faithful shall abide with him in love because grace and mercy are with his holy ones and his care is with his elect the word of the Lord Lord is my sheer is Nothing the is my she there is nothing I shall The Lord is my sheer I shall not in Pide wat he refesh his high oh is my sheer there is nothing my Sh I in for you and with your and Your spread the table before me in the sight of you en my with my sheer there’s nothing I shall only enes all the of my and I shall in the house Of is Myer nothing a reading from the first letter of Paul to the Corinthians behold I will tell you a mystery we will not all die but we will all be changed in a moment in the twinkling of an eye at the last trumpet for the trumpet will sound and the dead
Will be raised imperishable and we will be changed for this perishable body must put on imperishability and this Mortal body must put on immortality when this perishable body puts on imperishability and this Mortal body puts on immortality then the saying that is written will be fulfilled death has been swallowed up in
Victory where o death is your Victory where o death is your Sting the sting of death is sin and the power of sin is the law but thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ the word of the Lord than to God hallelujah hallelujah Hallelujah will Hallelujah Hallelujah hallelu the Lord be with you and your a reading from the holy Gospel according to John Jesus said to his disciples do not let your hearts be troubled have have faith in God and Faith in Me In My Father’s House there are many Dwelling
Places otherwise how could I have told you that I was going to prepare a place for you I am indeed going to prepare a place for you and then I shall come back to take you with me that where I am you also may be you know the way that leads
Where I go lord said Thomas we do not know where you are going how can we know the way Jesus told him I am the way and the truth and the life no one comes to the father but through me the gospel of the Lord prise to Jesus Christ please be seated
I shall come back to take you with me that where I am you also may be brothers and sisters the gospel that we have just heard is one that is rich in promise rich in promise for it invites us to imagine an encounter it invites us to imagine an
Encounter with Christ at the end of our own life’s journey and a future which Christ himself will secure I will come back to take you with me that where I am you also may be it’s part of what has been called the Great promise of the
Gospel which is a promise of life life in Union with Christ life in communion with the Saints life that begins in the Here and Now life that will continue we believe in the Hereafter that promise makes all the difference in the world and it means everything everything to us on a day
Such as this it is the foundation and rock on which we build Our Hope and we will return to This Promise This inspired word in just a few moments first a word of sympathy on behalf of the Community of Faith here at St Marks and on behalf of the many friends who’ve
Assembled here today to lend their support I want to say to the members of the Brian doie family what has been said many times throughout the last month but which Bears repeating and that is you have our deepest sympathy you have our heartfelt sympathy at this time of
Loss it was the British scholar and Churchman Ronald Knox who said the breaking of any human Circle demands its proper tribute in tears the breaking of any human Circle demands its proper tribute in tears we are here in part to pay that tribute to Brian
Dodie he was a man who was devoted to his family his own immediate family but he was also a Man Who Loved The Band of Brothers he acquired through his years of involvement with Sigma Kai fraternity Brian invested his life in management in education and in
Training he was an expert in his field he was respected by his peers he was recognized for his achievements he was an active member of the church for as long as his health allowed he was a friend to many he was all this and more but what with the slow
Decline of his health with the toll that arthritis took on his body with the various challenges and struggles he had to contend with we can also say that Brian Dodie was no stranger to the mystery of the Cross he walked his own particular way way of the cross in the last few years
He carried the cross as the gospel calls us to and we can assume that he approached the unexpected end of his life in the same way that he had lived as a man of Faith perseverance and trust that the love of God endures forever the faith in which Brian was so
Deeply rooted the faith that gave direction to his life the faith that sustained him to the end is faith that we share we’ve come from different places and from various houses of worship but in the most significant and life-giving ways we are united in faith and what do
We have faith in we have faith in a Lo loving and merciful god we have faith that God’s love is stronger than death we have faith that the promise of the Gospel is true and that brings us back to the place where where we started the promise of the Gospel we name that
Promise today I am the resurrection and the life whoever believes in me will not die but live I am the bread of life whoever eats this bread will live forever I will not leave you orphaned I will come back to take you with me that where I am you also may
Be we name the promise of the Gospel we affirm our own faith in it and we say let the promise be fulfilled for the servant of God Brian Paul doy may he rest in God’s peace now that the labor of life is finished and complete may he rest from labor may he
Rest forever in God’s peace and may we who must move forward from this day consider our own call to love and serve the Lord as people of Faith may we attempt by the grace of God God to answer that call and to live the life
For which we were made so that we can say with St Paul when we come to the end of our own life’s journey I have run the race I have fought the good fight I have kept the faith May the grace of God bring that Victory about for each and every one of
Us in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit it’s time now to offer what we call the prayer of the faithful I invite the assembly to rise we’ll offer a series of petitions please respond to each petition Lord here our pray

Lived brother Tom has asked me to keep it around five minutes and he just doesn’t know Brian Dodie so uh I I have spent more time cutting the three pages Brian told me to write than I have practicing so it may be a little choppy uh but when reflecting back on
Good memories and my friendship with Brian that goes back 37 years now uh the word that comes to me and keeps coming to me reoccurring is meaning meaningfulness and as I attempt to honor the Life of Brian uh I I’ll kind of come back to that word quite often uh um
Brian had a considerable amount of energy intelligence talent and he had a very friendly nature and he used all of this to make a meaningful life a meaningful difference in the lives of his friends his family his clients at work who he also called friends and where he volunteered his
Time you didn’t have to know Brian very long before you felt like you had known him your whole life all the stories who would tell uh like say I I met him in college but I quickly felt I I’d known them since first grade like Darren uh he often talked about his
Grandparents and they meant the world to him and he appreciated them for being a rock of stability for his family after his father passed away his freshman year at College when he was going to Miami of Ohio University but Ryan’s parents Gary and Jane Dodie were hard workers they were there for
Their kids through good times and bad and Brian owes his love and his skill in the hospitality industry uh to his parents and his grandparents where he worked in his the family’s restaurant and I think Renee you can correct me if I’m wrong did did they open that in high
School when he was in high school or middle school something of that nature well Brian would all his tals of greens and things you would have thought he was the head chef and CEO and uh I I know more about that restaurant and I never even walked into it and U
Um and Renee probably could correct Brian on on some of those tails and put them in his place but but uh more than anyone but um when all uh when Brian’s dad passed away uh he had to change colleges and he he arrived here at EKU and uh that I
Hate that he all that happened but u a lot of us found a really good friend uh through the process so not all bad things some some things that that that seem awful good things come out of um Brian mourned the loss of his father um heavily when he first got here to
EKU and one of his first introductions to the Catholic church is when I arranged for him to talk to Father Greg at the Catholic Newman Center and father Greg helped Brian cope with the loss of his dad and and and get through it uh in a healthy productive way and then just
Recently Brian uh lost his mother and um uh I know that was a very hard strain on him and and I want to thank all his friends all the sigai brothers um I kept talking to you guys and like Brian he I don’t know he must have
Stayed on the phone the whole time uh everybody that was calling him and talking to them and encouraging them and uh I know Brian appreciated that more than I ever can express to Renee Brian’s big sister I would like to say you are one of the few people that he both feared and
Respected and you should be proud of that so and to Gina Brian’s little sister I would like to say he cared about you so much that he couldn’t help but be over protective and I’m sure there were good times of that and there were times of
Too much attention to that um to Brendan and Chloe Brian enjoyed being your uncle and marveled as your interest and talents grew as you got older and know he was very proud to be your Uncle ran went to National Trail High School in Eaton Ohio and I again heard many stories uh
One thing I know for sure is Brian developed many meaningful lifelong friends and that several of them have traveled long distances to be here today such as his good friend Eric hemper and his parents Darren Leman Matt D and I I hear there’s others from his high school days that are here
Today there were several touching comments uh touching comments on his obituary page and his Facebook page from the people that knew Brian in his high school days that attest his friendliness and then he was a fun guy to be around fortunately for me I got to enjoy a lot
Of good times with Brian’s high school friends as well me and Brian’s path crossed uh in the fall of 1987 on the 10th floor of keen Hall and we have been good friends ever since we’ve had a lot of good times and Brian is always a loyal friend you
Can count on in a time of need many times over and over in our friendship we helped each other kind of slingshot each other through problems barriers and into opportunities that both of us may have not been able to tackle or been able to take advantage of without each other and
Without question that’s what you call the meaning of true friendship speaking a true friendship I met a few Sigma Kai my freshman year at EKU and they were uh encouraged me to come out uh to rush they said hey check us out we think you’ll like it and after
Rushing sigi and learning the standards the principles and the virtues of what sigi stood for and meeting a bunch of good over o overall good guys I joined and initiated Sigma Kai in the fall of 88 along with our good friend and my pledge brother Tommy
Taylor um shortly after that um Matt D A friend of Brian’s uh came down to EKU and he rushed and initiated in sigai in the fall of 88 and Matt was a great friend of his from his hometown um and then we uh we all worked at
Holiday in and there was like 16 friends that Brian got on at work so work was a blast when you when when you went there and we met Paul Taylor and Paul uh initiated in the spring of 1991 and then Brian the ever recruiter um recruited my son in the fall of 22
And it was his great joy to watch him initi shate and Brian had talked about you being a sigai from the time you were probably to so so uh he deemed you worthy about that time so anyway also I want to mention Brian’s pledge brother James Hoops Abner
Who traveled from Phoenix Arizona today to be with us and to honor his good pledge brother uh uh James thank you for being here today Ryan when he came back from Phoenix Arizona um where he got some good career experience he was the catering manager at
EKU and quickly fell into the job of being the chapter uh or faculty advisor and he met a whole new generation of sigmaa and became fast friends with them and enjoyed their fellowship and it was very meaningful to to him and it’s mean been meaningful to
Them and he talks to many of them still later he became the chapter advisor and through all the generations of sigai and many of them are here today he treasured your friendship and he also Brian was part lawyer part Chef part Entertainer uh he was a lot of things
And uh um he the chapter h a few rough times and he guided the chapter gracefully through all those tough times and sigma Kai has met the world to him and seeing all the sigma here today U is is is is wonderful to see fast forwarding a few
Years Brian and Michelle had been married and we all went to a friend’s wedding a holiday in friend’s wedding and they attended a uh it was was a Catholic mass and through that wedding they were drawn in to to join the Catholic Church here in Richmond and
Brian and Michelle were active here they were both on the parish council Brian served a second term on Parish Council they were involved in the rcia program and Brian is a very very deep thinker and he became an AR Ardent supporter of the faith in 2010 I think that’s right
Stephanie is that when you guys partnered up and um they um after working in several Man U Association Management Companies uh Stephanie and uh Brian became a dynamic duo and started their own company and Stephanie Brian enjoyed working with you and all your talents immensely and they were very
Successful together and Brian just uh that job fulfilled him and uh tested his talents and he he enjoyed giving all to to his job and Brian you know in the meeting planning world he had served as president um um and and he was meeting planner of the year in the Kentucky
Chapter in 2004 and 2008 and Brian took all those skills to his workplace and and like I say he was part Chef part lawyer and and and any more things before ending this eulogy I I believe Brian would like me to express to Michelle’s family how often he said and over and
Over again that he married into the perfect family and he loved you guys dearly and I I he he loved and appreciated each one of you and he misses Jimmy Maran and Donald and Steve to Campbell his daughter you are are your father’s daughter through and
Through you have his taste for the Finer Things in life Brian had that too and he loved you dearly to Matthew please know your dad was extremely proud of you and the challenges you overcame and your recent courageous battle with cancer please know that your dad’s friends are your friends and your
Family as well and our sons and are not our daughters are your friends and family as well to Michelle please know that Brian never stopped caring for you appreciated all you did for him and he respected you to the highest degree on how on how well you attended to all Campbell’s needs the
Past 18 years and to my friend and Sakai brother Brian Dodie having looked over your past life we all can say you fought the good fight you have finished your work the white cross as s m has gained new luster by your life we bid you God speed my brother thank [Applause] You Thank you Father on behalf of the Ada Alpha chapter of the sigmai fraternity we greatly appreciate you allowing us to perform the white rose ceremony our last honor to our brother Dodie to the family of Brian Dodie we offer you our deepest and most sincere condolences Brian loves sigai and did an
Incredible amount for the chapter over the course of decades his loss from our Brotherhood is enormous and we will never forget him Brothers in sigai we are gathered here to pay our tribute of love and respect for the memory of our beloved brother Brian Paul Dodie all honor to his name we meet
Because of his passing from our circle to the chapter Eternal and yet in our hearts is the confidence that his Living spirit hovers near to his dear ones and Friends present we would bring our expression of sympathy and to his memory we would offer our homage for his
Qualities of heart and mind as a friend as a brother Among Us and as a man of Affairs we have known him as loyal and devoted to the high ideals of the white cross which we wear his friendship was enduring his generosities were large and his life was an
Inspiration he loved his fraternity but he knew that its helpfulness and sympathies Were Meant To Be broader in the bounds of the organization his loyalty was grounded in the faith that fraternalism stands finally for better citizenship for a more noble civilization and for the higher ideals
Of life in its service to man and reverence to God in this sacred place and reverent moment the thought is dominant that life and its true friendships are indestructible because of the spirit in man death cannot have the victory that which we call death is but the gateway to life
Immortal for the life of the spirit does not die in as much as our dearly beloved brother Brian Dodie wore over his heart the White Cross of sigai whose Immaculate whiteness symbolized to us the purity of his motives therefore it is most appropriate that he know bear above his heart around
And that we lay white roses in his honor in token of the Sweet Memories We will always cherish of him we love so well I would ask that the brothers each wearing a white rose come up come forward and lay your roses in front for for for e for let us unite in
Prayer almighty God our heavenly father with whom do live the spirits of just men made perfect we do thank thee for all those who having been found worthy have eternal life with thee we thank thee for thy son Jesus Christ and that in his life and teachings who was the
