Live you want to give me the balloon oh we’re good okay okay he has a he wants a comfort balloon hey what’s going on guys welcome to the akd live stream uh this is the mixer it’s Friday we’re looking at this camera is what Ashwin is telling me to
Do so um we’ll do a quick introduction tell us your name what year you are what team you’re on okay my name is sham I’m on NCS unar and I’m a junior there we go and you are also a junior Captain is that right yes yeah I am awesome how
Does that work what’s like the structure in Nar so we have our captains and then Junior captains are just like basically it’s like a training type role where you’re like learning the ropes of how to be a captain and then like from there you’ll just like learn like what you
Have to do for next year so like when you’re in the captain position it’s like a smoother transition yeah yeah okay nice so you have a lot of support like learning a bunch of stuff you’re basically shadowing the captains it’s more so like like logistical stuff like
What you need to know um how a team runs like what is what goes into being a ddn dance team like all of that so like just like having I feel like having a junior Captain position in itself is really helpful in like learning that cuz if
You’re just thrown into the deep end it’ll just like you won’t know what to do right so like I think this is a good like transition into it yeah I think that’s really great I know a lot of teams like they don’t have this junior Captain succession plan right they there
Are just people that are thrown into the fire and I think that’s how you see a lot of like variability in teams like they’ll fall off a cliff next year you know we have that consistency in that sense because we like are like at least have that like extra year of like
Knowing what to do so like when our new captains are picked they at least know what they’re doing in that sense like you’re not just like randomly like you know thrown into that yeah yeah yeah well that’s awesome I’m glad that you have that sort of support system and I
Think I’m really excited to see what you do next year I mean it’s kind of a commitment isn’t it you can’t quit anymore right uh yeah but I enjoy the dance so like I mean I’ve been dancing my whole life so like for me it’s just
Been like dance is a passion more so just like doing it for like ddn or anything I’m doing dance for like the sake of like I just want to dance so like I feel like if you have a good motivation behind it it’s not like oh I
Want to quit or it’s like I want to do it just for that it’s just like I just want to do it for the sake of Dancing Yeah that’s good that’s good I think we need more of a love for D dancing in our captains so tell me you are on NCS unari
So this was a pretty short drive for you right yeah um I mean this might have been like the easiest like most like relaxed I’ve been like got the most sleep I’ve ever gotten got a full night’s rest uh left around 3 4:00 and made it a mixer so that’s I think that’s
The most like amazing thing and then being at a home comp like having all of our parents come being able to like have them live and watching us I think that’s like one of the greatest things that we could get yeah yeah do your parents
Watch you dance a lot is that uh pretty uncommon for y’ allall no I mean I mean since I’ve been dancing my whole life like they’ve been there for like every step my mom actually forced me into dance when I was younger so like she put
Me into ballet and so like I I I hated it at first and then like my my parents like just loved like watching me like grow into dance so I think like for them it’s been more of like seeing me grow from like oh I don’t like it to I’m
Starting to like and I’ve chosen to do dance all on my own now like in college like they didn’t have to force me into it so I think that they’re like happy in that sense that I chose it as well and I’m not like they’re not forcing me into
It yeah that’s cool you have a very like it went from a very external motivation to a very internal motivation right yeah so you grew up learning ballet you’re on a fusion team now so you’re a man of many styles what is your favorite one to show off what are you most looking
Forward to dancing tomorrow your favorite seg to show off I think buung cha okay cha is one of my favorite things I get really low into it so like that’s my favorite thing but also I have a passion for contempt I am uh training contempt so I’ve always like felt more
With the music like that so I like dancing with contemp as well okay well we are going to be making sure to watch out for sham at nazari we’re watching out for the Bunger Char segment and the contempt segment uh all right any last things you want to say to the world hype
Up your side a little bit what should we look forward to um I think I think everyone should be looking out for our very intro hip hop I think that hits really hard all right well thanks so much for coming on um oh I see the rest
Of the nazari fans are here oh my God they’re here well thanks so much for joining appreciate you yeah great to seeing you too there we go we did it yeah uh okay the bottom one folds into a tripod great you put it down there is it great awesome awesome all
Right how was that is that cool I couldn’t hear anything but it was cool okay great great cool cool yeah how did it hear how did it [Applause] sound [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] Know never [Applause] mind sure we’re going to get a third chair um how do we want to this let’s SC down just a little bit actually I’ll be in the middle here we go all right how’s the framing good all right we’re going to be looking at that camera mostly okay yeah
Yeah so I’ve never done I’ve never done yeah my fourth one so this together we’re all learning together good to know this may be a thing it may not be a thing who knows we’ll be here for it now okay are we ready to go all right great
Welcome back to the akd mixer live stream we’re running uh round two of interviews we have Legends people they’re not reps they specified that they’re not Legends reps they’re Legends people so tell us uh give us your name and your position on board sure my name is Rish Jane I go
By RJ I’m Legends director this year okay RJ the director and hi I’m Shrea Roy and I’m one of the registration chairs this year all right awesome so you guys are not reps but you guys are here so what brought you all the way out to North Carolina you’re you’re not from
North Carolina right both of y’all yeah I’m I mean I’m from Memphis Tennessee but akd is a comp I came to last year when I was on board um I know you know the folks on board really well everyone does a great job here so back again for
Another year yeah I agree I think the akd board like I have nothing to say but positive things about them like man they’re just on top of it very hospitable so if you’re out there and you’re watching this come to the comp next year it’s going to be awesome
You’re from I’m from Dallas Texas but I was here for work so I figured why not just swing by yeah of course well I hope excuse any excuse to go to a PC one more time any excuse to go to a partner competition there we go PS are great so
What teams are you all most looking forward to seeing I am really looking forward to NCSU naari oh and why I have been hanging out with some of them this last week I have a couple friends on the team and they they seem really cool and
I’m really excited to see their set I agree nzara is actually very very cool I am a big fan of them as well so it’s the Matrix right yeah it’s going to be a really cool set tomorrow we just spoke to their Captain sham uh so watch out
For that yeah uh I’m really excited to see everybody I know that’s a very cliche okay cop out that’s a very cliche answer but um like every every set that I’ve seen of these these teams that have competed before um they’re all very very strong and I think it’ll be a fun fun
Show overall yeah yeah I agree it’s going to be awesome um man this is kind of the part where I run out of questions but can can we ask you some questions Charlie yeah yeah okay so so we have the wonderful Charlie Charlie Hooper here with us um I’m being interviewed yeah so
So we’re going to do a little a little Legends X Charlie Hooper interview here so um how many competitions have you been to so far how many more are you going to in this competition season and what’s what’s made you excited to come to each one yeah so I have been to are
You talking about just uh Legends competitions or all C we’ll stick with just Legends competitions yeah so I’ve been to two I went to uh Midwest laka last weekend and then Buckeye Meo the weekend before so it’s been a lot of fun I think the thing that keeps me coming
Out is just trying to make good videos for the teams right uh I used to be a dancer so I know what it’s like to have a good video and I know what it’s like to have a bad video and it’s it’s my job to make sure everyone has the good video
Experience solid something they can look back on in 10 years you know good stuff yeah and uh you know I know you have a lot of fans out there who are watching this live stream so I think I will ask on behalf of all of them how many more
Years do you plan on doing this in the circuit are you going to be one of those Immortal videographers that we just see every single year yeah uh I actually don’t know I’ll probably do it as long as ushn does it yeah cop down answer he
Just gives a thumbs up right now uh yeah I’m actually we’re looking at you know training up some younger videographers mentoring them giving them the tools and knowledge they need to kind of take over as we you know grandfather out I guess all right all right yeah yeah oh we got
A question yeah I have a question what do you see as a future of videography and media in ddn or Legends wow that is a that’s a loaded question um what’s the future of videography I mean are you talking just Legends the comp or the circuit as a whole the circuit as a
Whole the circuit as a whole okay I mean I think you’ll still see see front row I think you’ll still see back row I think you know our friend ushan Sur she’s been doing a lot of like very experimental things with switching between front rows and back rows uh you see people like
Shock here throwing up statistics and facts and kind of bringing you know more than just the dance into the live stream we see the people behind it right the what goes into it except besides those just8 minutes on the stage so I think it’ll be really cool to see a shift
Towards that uh and kind of fill in the blanks you know like who is naari who is cha all that stuff and then you’ll get a really cohesive story along with the dance so I think that that could be really cool I have another question for
You okay so we have front row and we have back row have you ever thought about middle row whoa whoa middle row middle row you know not mid middle middle correct I mean we might just have to try that tomorrow just like like in the middle right in the
Middle yes that’s the future of Legends videography so the reason why I asked this question is because last night I was actually watching some ddn sets right and which ones the split um so we were watching we were watching um BSB King Arthur year we were watching that
Was a good one we watched BSB Evolution as well oh yeah unfortunately we watched say janier because my friends wanted to see me in a monkey costume um we watched a couple others but the point the point of the question was we were really arguing between whether we like Front Row videos better
Or Back Row videos better and I was like guys imagine if there was a middle row video the worst of Both Worlds exactly you can’t see the people and you can’t see the formations yes and it’s just not hype at all yeah that’s great I mean
What are the pros and cons do you think of like front row and back row what do you like to see in both um okay so in front row I like to see like the people you know their facials I feel like I can’t see them from back row as well but
I can like see them performing I can see like I’m like all up in their face you know what I mean um so I really like that about front row yeah so it’s like that’s exactly that’s more for like viewing pleasure I guess um but back row
For me is like where I get to see the formations I get to see the entire production I feel like I can appreciate what the team has put into the set from a back row video but I can appreciate what a dancer has put into their dancing from a front row video
Yeah it’s like the individual versus the whole right exactly yeah but if you had a middle row video you could get neither yes middle row videography coming soon to a comp near you exactly yeah all right well I think uh this has been a perfect length for an interview um
Thank you guys so much for coming out and uh yeah any last words anything you want to say to the people tuning in uh I just want to say thanks to akd board for for putting on a great comp and good luck to all of the competing teams
Tomorrow there we go and yeah and competing teams at akd and a nle that is also happening this weekend so good luck to all the teams competing there as well all right thanks so much guys come out to Dallas Texas April 20th to see legends and see the show that they’ll be
Putting putting on a lot of hard work going into it so there we go thanks guys thank you app it wasn’t too bad that’s good we had great conversation and all of that Hilarious stay with the CLE [Applause] [Applause] that so [Applause] [Applause] nice [Applause] [Applause] just seen the to I I’m going to get a little bit of the this balloon [Applause] game oh they’re right here okay yeah I didn’t know if they were here yet or [Applause] not [Applause] [Applause] in [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] d Hold it like right about here that’s perfect okay cool all right welcome back to the akd mixer live stream uh we have some more captains up to interview this is pit maana all the way from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania so uh I’m going to ask you guys say your names uh your year and how
Long youve been dancing on pit M okay uh hi I’m somia I’m a senior and this is my second year on maana hi I’m n and this is also my second year on maana and I’m a sophomore hi I’m Mega I’m also a sophomore and this is my second year on
Monana okay so a lot of a lot of secondy year people on monana right so jumping right into the Cy roll what is that like I mean one year dancing and then suddenly you have to lead a team uh it was honestly like a little hard for us at first figuring out the
Transition um for them they were both freshman last year but I’ve been I danced on like a classical competitive team so it’s a little bit different yeah as soy said it was like a learning curve in the beginning for sure but like we quickly adjusted like we had
It like our team is so supportive so just relying on them like really made the transition much easier I think like after the transition period was done we really started to have fun with the process and it’s just yeah it’s just really amazing experience that’s awesome because uh
Team UNCC Chula they are actually also all sophomore captains like they dance for a year and they jump right into the captain role and I think a similar story to y’all is like they had a very supportive team a lot of returners that helped them out um what are some of like
The most important lessons you’ve learned kind of like in this role like you know surely you s you talked about a transition period right so what brought you from before the transition to after the transition um I think really sticking to what we believe in um
Something like as long as the three of us agree on something like that said like like that’s what we got to do and we know it’ll make really good for our team and honestly on that note like as much as um we did want to stick with our
Vision and what we believed in like being open to input from other people was a huge thing too yeah flexibility was a big thing like again as I said amazing team so always taking like critiques from them and like what we could improve on was really helped us out
Yeah uh yeah just to go off of what they both said we’re like really big on communication and just like making sure the team is on the same page and we’re all the same page and I think that’s what really helps us like get to this point that’s great I like the the
Rotation we have here this is great it’s like passing yeah um so so you guys have been to how many comps before this one one okay so what changes Have y’all made from the last one to this one what are how are y’all feeling coming off of that
One and going into this one um I think we’ve definitely made some like cleaning changes now also like and what comp are youall at we were at um akr okay great so Aus got youall there right yeah yeah we actually most of our team is like freshman this year so I think really
This like comp like learning how to dance as a unit was really big for us honestly we were coming off a high from akr um yeah we placed first no way conratulations thank you so um but you’ll definitely see some changes tonight we’re excited about them uh we think it’s an improvement for
Sure I think the team as a whole is a lot more comfortable with the now and we’re really having fun with it being on stage rather than nervous so I’m really excited okay do you feel like do you feel like there’s high expectations for you guys though now that you’ve placed
First like what happens now can it go can you go even higher um I think for us really it’s just like what matters is our team has fun and they enjoy it I think at the end of the day sometimes they’ll get in their heads and we have
To remind them like guys like we’re here cuz we love to dance we love you guys we’re a family that kind of stuff yeah honestly like I do feel the nerve sometimes but again as SOI said like I just have to remind myself like I’m here
Just to have fun and we emphasize that with the team as well like doesn’t matter what happens as long as you’re like having a good time yeah I don’t have anything like additional to add but let yeah we just we’re just here to have fun the mixer is
Amazing and we’re going to have fun tomorrow too on stage so yeah awesome well thanks so much guys uh that pretty much is it we’re just these are pretty quick interview so I’m so excited to see this set tomorrow tomorrow like I’m a big fan of pan I know a lot of your
Alumni so are any of youall going to be at thaa yeah we are great I’ll be there as a videographer so I’ll see you guys there uh tune in tomorrow to see pit maana it’s going to be great thanks guys sh out toar forting so [Applause] [Laughter] long you already Let’s hop in yeah yeah yeah I’ll be in the middle and then I’ll I’ll we we cut her out sorry my best friend was in the game and she was Final too was watching that’s what really matters that’s what really matters wait I need some water real quick I just did hold B
Bloop how dare you oh my God they look the exact same twins I think we need to get them in front of the camera how about you like you’re like like both of them next to you oh just like you which one of Ys a which one of
Yalls how’s the mixer B so far we all I keep getting scared the games are so like physical we’re good okay all right welcome back to the akd mixer live stream I got a few more people to interview you’re going to want to hear this one no you’re okay so these wonderful
Ladies next to me are the UNCC cha captains uh if you tuned in last weekend to the Midwest the MAA stream we talked with uh Dia and Shrea so this is the uh the other two captains uh say your name and your year and your favorite dance
Style okay hi I’m Ashi I’m a sophomore and my favorite dance style is hip-hop nice you may recognize her as the Mad King in Red so yeah yeah okay hi I’m Priya I’m a sophomore and my favorite style is Bunga and classical Bunger and classical what kind of classical we
Talking like barium or yeah B naum and how long have you done that for uh 8 years 12 yeah I don’t know I I can’t count anymore counting is really hard you know once it goes past your first hand it’s like what all right so I
Really wanted to talk talk to you guys about this magical Chula practice schedule this is insane this is insane everyone at home like if you’re running a dance team I need you to listen to this because it’s insane it’s going to save your dancers from burnout so how
How much do you practice in one week okay so a non- comp week we have 3 hours on Sunday 2 hours on Tuesday and 2 hours on Thursday and then we have a segment practice which is only like how many ever people are in a segment on
Wednesday for 2 hours so total 7 to n hours uh on a non-c comp week and then on a comp week we have Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday for 2 and 1 half hours that’s like zero hours I mean what do you like being able to sleep
Before midnight I love it honestly I love it like it we finish before midnight I’m able to get up for my 9:30 which is very difficult for me it’s so nice that’s crazy imagine being able to balance school and dance what so how do you do this how do you practice so few
Hours and still like I mean place like first and second at comps like what the heck you know I mean um I think it’s like mainly the dancers too we um we try to create a culture of like motivation I guess like motivation and like the
Urgency like for me the urgency of time if I only have 2 hours and I only have can only get so much done that makes me want to be like more like locked into practice like we try to lock everyone into practice so like we don’t have to
Waste any more time than we need to yeah yeah I’ll tell you a lot of time is wasted in practices as a former dancer myself like dude the yapping the yapping so inefficient if you’re if you’re yappy you’re not dancing I mean okay so so was
This always the thing or like was there a transition period into like going into this like efficiency practice this is always I mean both of us are sophomores so this is our second year really on the team we only had one year as like actual dancers but um yeah last year was the
Same we had really oh what up what up what up we got Neil oh my God the awesome DJ for this mixer all those air horns that’s him all the fart noises that’s him he’s killing it he’s killing it say hi um can I curse on this yeah man before what ashy say
What’s up it’s me I’m Neil roone oh if you guys smile for the camera we got Amber kak car uh if you ever need intro videos or DJing or stuff like that he made our he made our mix he made our intro video and he made our digital backdrop so if you
Watch Chua set and you want any of those things contact neon I need a job so bad please Neilon Neilon Neilon Neilon so that’s the power also of like in-house creatives I mean when you have feedback you want to get something done you just
Tell him you don’t have to wait on a DJ for 3 months I mean how’s that feel I mean yeah another thing that we like another in-house person that we have via one of our other C and she made two of her mixes the the king segment and then
Also the Kemp segment and also in the Kemp segment we had one of our members play the flute in the background so he’s like over there but that was like that addition really like brought the mix to another level it adds like it adds like Personal Touch like we’re the ones
Dancing and us being able to add our own stuff that’s what like is special so that’s why you should join ashwin’s DJ classes to learn how to DJ yeah oh yeah we really want to inspire this idea of like in-house creatives like if you’re on a dance team like
Dancing is not the only way you can contribute you can mix you can make videos you can help your captain out digital backdrops Productions so many opportun so many opportunities besides dancing on ddn team so even if you don’t know how to dance you can join a ddn
Team to do other things like there’s so many options yeah I agree um I think it speaks a lot to like these Captain’s abilities to to allow outside ideas to come in as well I think there’s a lot of captains with like this ego thing where they want to be the only ones
Contributing they want to have like the full creative power but I think this chka you know it shows the power of collaboration which I think is awesome so um what are you guys looking forward to for the rest of the circuit I mean you guys have tell us about the rest of
Your comp season we have one more comp MCM we’re really excited like alab Alabama Birmingham Alabama yeah we can’t wait to see the teams there mingle with the new teams like it’s going to be great yeah we’re just excited to like just perform again like we had two
Backtack comp weekends and now I feel like I want to go perform again like come on let’s go like we’re ready to go back so one more performance uh and then obviously yeah come mixing with the teams there yeah we’re excited to meet GT Jadu captains yes GT Jadu captains
Sophomore Captain Unity sophomore Captain Unity oh my God the pit mic captains they’re all like I mean they’re not like sophomores but they’re like second-year dancers so like similar Vibes you know like dance for a year and then start leading a team that’s crazy by the way like how how’s that been for
Y’all sophomore captaincy and and winning you know like what’s up with that okay winning is crazy winning is crazy yeah um I think it’s it wasn’t that hard especially since all of us are sophomores so we were kind of going into like very new approach and that’s what
Allowed us to like like really be super creative because we had a complete Blank Slate from last year right um like we had we did have the other like previous Captain’s advice and everything but we really wanted to like take our creativity and take our like Specialties
And like put pour them into the set so it’s been like really nice and also them both being sophomores is really easy for me because they they like relate to what we’re going through through like trying to find an internship for this summer like like I don’t know like classes and
Stuff like that it’s been really nice yeah yeah yeah it’s great to have someone to be able to relate to you know what I’m saying um tell us about your experience as a sophomore Captain uh I I couldn’t hear priia that well so I I
Don’t know what she said um but I mean yeah it’s been great I knew I always wanted to be Captain so like I feel like I was kind of prepared for it um it’s definitely been like it was a big jump in the beginning like just like being
Like kind of like thrown in there like in the summer we were like making our set like we were we worked with Ashwin amazing DJ Ashwin DJ chaos yeah um so that was like I mean we were just like doing that in the summer and then all of
A sudden we came back and then there was 30 people and then we were leading practice and there’s this that like I feel like that it was just like a initially a big like like change from like last year just being dancers to now being like captains but then it was
Really great like just like obviously the team is amazing we love everyone everyone’s on akd board so everyone’s here tonight so yeah it’s great I think you know you’re talking about being excited for the rest of the season and I think it says so much to the fact that
You guys just did backtack comps and you’re not burned out you’re ready to keep going like I’m so ready I’m so ready to keep going I want to perform again and we have so many changes to make so like I’m excited to get those go get those rolling like everything we
Also just had a whole week off of practice because everyone was dead everyone was sick but it’s been really nice having a whole week off because then I could like experience my 9 to1 life too um but other than that like I’m ready to be back on stage like like
Feeling all the audience like their energy in me to when I dance so yeah well I can speak for the rest of the audience as well when I say we’re just is excited to see UNC cha perform again so yeah we’ll probably wrap it up there
With y’all um thanks so much for telling us the secret to the Chula like efficiency practi it’s crazy it’s crazy secret is love secret love for dance love and support that’s it and no yappen thanks guys appreciate y’all by bye bye okay well welcome back to the akd mixer
Live stream we have a few more captains here to interview we’ve got BSB so three captains here I want you guys to tell me your name how long you’ve been dancing and uh what you love most about dancing with BSB uh my name is Arya I’ve been
Dancing for a year and uh I think I’d say the Brotherhood is my favorite part of BSB okay the Brotherhood I Rel I used to dance on Ral th so I know that feeling here hold this um I’m Akash I’ve been dancing for almost over 10 years
Now um um I think my favorite part about BSB again is the Brotherhood and how everyone is so selfless when they’re on stage my name is sh um I’ve been daning for the past 12 years and with BB past four years um again brother was the same
Answer yeah yeah W well I got to hear about this Brotherhood tell me what is like when do you feel the Brotherhood the strongest you know cuz I know there’s a lot of all guys teams out there so what sets you all apart you think in terms of that Brotherhood and
That like fraternity feeling yeah I think it’s more so like the late practices you know everyone has a common goal everyone like like loves like you know having fun dancing at the end of the day you know we do this stuff for fun we do this stuff so that we can be
Closer um create a sense of bond so they doing it for the right reasons exactly yeah I would definitely say um the thing that’s really special about this Brotherhood is that um when we’re at our most vulnerable when it’s a really late night or people are down they’re tired
You know our brothers are always there to pick um everyone else back up and I think that’s what’s really special about our team is everyone’s always out for looking out for each other and so so when someone’s down they always find a way to pick them back up so that’s what
I really love about it I would say the same thing I think I think the Bond is so strong between all of us that um no matter how long the practices are like we always like hold each other accountable and stuff like that that’s great that’s great so I know
Uh how long have both of y’all been on BSB for before this one year yeah one year okay and you’ve been here for much longer this is my third years third year so so how has it B like I’m sure you have a bit of a mentor role towards them
Yeah can can you guys talk a little about that and kind of how he’s helped you guys ease into the captain role yeah I mean it’s been it’s been pretty interesting uh to be honest like uh as a first-time Captain um you know it’s a lot of
Pressure but um we’ve had a lot of help from alumni um other peers uh who have made that process a lot easier we’ve learned a lot from like I know I can speak for both of us that uh we’ve learned a lot um through this experience
Not just in terms of dancing but like life lessons and like hard work and pushing through hardships so yeah yeah I mean kind of echoing off that um you know coming in as a captain I never really expected you know how much it really is especially as a sophomore too
You know with balancing school and you know being a captain but it’s definitely a very rewarding experience seeing the growth in your dancers and um I’m definitely glad that like we have sh to also help us out like having that experience on the team and again just Pi
Talking off what Arya said you know really just um life lessons that are taught along the way being a captain not just through dancing so I would say like as a first time captains even myself um I was a little nervous cuz the team is new like Captain
Is new i’ i’ I um I don’t know them for like before a year ago right so mainly I think the bond between us three is strongest right and then that Bond kind of um kind of resembles in the team as well and especially them being like first time captains they are doing
Really well that’s great uh so what is the average like uh tenure of the team were you talking a lot of first timers yeah a lot every year every year okay so uh tell me like one person on the team that you are most proud of at this comp at
This stage stage in the in the season think about it for a second you have that person in mind and let me know all right I’m going to cheat a little I’m going have to say two people uh they’re they’re both my friends um and uh Christian aasia um I I
Met them outside of dance and I I told them to you know join the team as like just for fun see how it goes um and they ended up picking it up and they loved it um and they’ve grown into amazing dancers so I’m really proud of them I’d
Say um I would say um AI he’s a newbie on our team um he’s really grown he he reminds me of myself coming from like a dance background he’s really grown into even though he’s a newbie he’s still always elevating the others elevating us making sure we’re on
Top of um you know our [ __ ] making sure that like he’s holding us accountable too um he’s really grown as a dancer you know seeing him walk on from the first day to now um so I would definitely shout him out for that especially yeah I
Would say Chris and Arnav cuz they came from no dancing background and like when they came in as a newb they didn’t even know what like bonger is what hip-hop is and then eventually they build it up themselves and now they’re like probably top six dancers of our team yeah awesome
All right last question here so uh we just came off of what comp where did we go to ug ug okay I want to hear what you guys how you guys feel about the performance and what you guys see going into the rest of the season I I spoke to
One of your other members and said there’s there’s big changes you know he said it’s not over till it’s over what are yall thoughts tell me about the rest of the season for yall yeah I mean um I think going going into this comp definitely have a Underdog mentality um
Ug was uh slightly a bit of a let down but um things happen uh we move forward and uh looking into this comp we we made a lot of changes uh a lot of good changes so hopefully those translate on stage and we we perform I know they will
No trans looking forward to it yeah um yeah speaking on that too like uh I would say one comp doesn’t dictate a season um teams are always capable of bouncing back BSB in previous years has always bounced back so I’m really proud of our guys also for pushing through not
Letting one um you know placing one result kind of dictate the season um it’s not over till it’s over like they said so we’re going to keep pushing through and fighting until we leave no regrets on stage so I would say like a lot of people they have they haven’t
Like danced on stage for like ever in their lifetime so that was their first experience I think they had that stage fear too that’s number one so that’s out of the way and now that they have practice of like two weeks back to back and then every day changes 500 a.m.
Practice I think they’re feeling really confident so I think we’re we’re very positive about this man I got goosebumps I’m like I’m excited to see this set tomorrow um I think it’s going to be it’s going to be really fun to watch so we got three more comps it’s going to be
Great catch them tomorrow uh what other comps we got we got Legacy and we got aown Showdown all right Legacy and aown Showdown stay tuned guys bsp great team been a fan of y’all since Evolution year so uh yeah thanks for showing up and uh yeah we’ll see yall of course apprciate y
You all right good job guys that was great that was great okay the microphone all of you guys are working together it’s one team ready you guys all right welcome back to the akd mixer live stream interview session I’m here today with the captains of gatara and uh
I just want to introduce them real quick so give us your name and how long you’ve been dancing on the team yeah so um my name is trus um I’m the captain of the team and I’ve been dancing for about two years collegiately um previously in high
School and middle school I did dance as well so about around eight years of experience okay okay good good very experienced yeah hey uh my name is V okay very nice very nice come on right side get it faster okayy work together I should have made that more testing testing 1 2
3. 10 is like crazy 1 2 ABC d e FG all right great we’re back nice okay so I wanted to ask you guys a little bit about um kind of being on a GU team I mean there’s how many other guys teams at this competition like three or four I
Think good amount yeah yeah good amount do you guys feel like it’s tough to stand out um especially this weekend um I think in ter I think in terms of standing out it’s about like set creativity um and that goes with like bringing in radical ideas and kind of
Testing them out working through them um I feels like I feel like between guys teams and like co-ed teams and girls teams I don’t think it matters too much I think it’s just more about those creative ideas that you try to implement throughout your set so yeah yeah I like
That I mean creativity is always going to be gender agnostic you know so it’s just about what you bring in terms of like your storyline all the things the choreography you know what do you what about you what do you think yeah I mean one thing we kind of focused on this
Year to kind of like I guess stand ourselves out was to have a more creative plot so our theme was like kind of original not something like we you could take from like a TV show which is like something we kind of wanted to put
A Twist on because like that’s a lot of what you see in the circuit so that’s kind of something we try to do to stand out but I think like something like more creative um maybe even with like um props and stuff like more different ideas just to like stand out more it
Would be like very like beneficial to stand out so okay awesome I love seeing that you know cuz I think there’s there’s a certain strategy you can take to this ddn game is to like copy what works right but I think it takes a lot of guts to do something different you
Know and just kind of carve your own path um what kind of like made y all what pushed youall to do this uh creativity way instead of just falling what works for other people um I mean I think from the start our team is very
Like go big try it or go home rather than go taking risks right take risks um rather than like I mean we go mediocre sure like we’ll have a good set right but it won’t be the best of the best and that’s what we’re striving to be so in
Order to make that push we need to bring in radical ideas just as similar as like the top teams are doing as well so yeah that’s kind of the mindset I like that I like that and we’ll what kind of like pushed y’all to to be more creative rather than just you
Know go with like a cookie cutter make a clean set because I think again goes back to like originality factor I think is what’s really important this circuit cuz often times you see the same format of set like from segment to segment it’s like the same flow and that kind of gets
Jumbled up and you’re not really standing out so again that creative the creativity factor that we wanted to bring this year was something we wanted to like expand on and Excel on as much as we could so we try to make it as big as possible and let’s go bigger go home
So I love that man I think this ciruit needs to take way more risks and it’s just great to see people like you guys kind of leading that charge um and speaking of taking risks and kind of standing out from the crowd I know you
Know when it comes to all guys teams I think you see a a heavy prevalence of Bunga right oh yeah tell me what do you guys think about like do do you need Bunga as an all guys team to succeed or is this kind of just like a meme of oh
All boys teams do is Bunger and Hip Hop yeah I mean our team is like we love Bunga our team so um I mean I think any all guys teams Bunger is just so fun to do um I don’t think it hurts you if you don’t have Bunga but I think it
Definitely helps you when you do um and especially if you do and if it’s hype if it’s it’s clean if it’s complex Coro that can add a lot of like diversity to a set that just has um you know other other types of segment it’s just another
Diversity segment I would say um and it adds a lot of power as well so yeah I like that are there any like very unique segments that you want people to pay attention to tomorrow yeah I’d say like to highlight probably a gymer segment um
It’s kind of like a VI swaggy like beach Vibe and then um probably our closer like that’s our one of our favorite we’ve been working on it for so long and then I’d say one more that would really stand out is part production segment we’ve been kind of changing it up so
What our production segment is like our light segment I guess but um we’ve changed it up from our previous comp and like we’re trying to make I guess explain the plot the story in a more cohesive way through a new style of production yeah yeah do production can
Tie together a story like no other um and so you guys are uh how many years have has yall been competing um competitively two years yeah do you feel like like like you’re The Underdogs coming into this competition 100% I mean this is our first um year of doing
Bitcom so it’s our second bitcom ever in team history so it definitely feels like we’re coming in from underne hopefully we can make our name up there um and yeah we’ll see what happens yeah yeah how do you feel about like kind of being The Underdogs yeah I know for sure I
Definitely think we’re The Underdogs here um I mean we definitely don’t have as much experience in the circuit and I think that’s a big factor in you know competing and excelling to that top level so I think as we progress we just get better and we keep going so yeah
That is awesome uh last question what’s the rest of your comp season looking like what comps are you all going to yeah so this is our second comp we have three comps this season our last comp is jba so okay awesome well we’re looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow and
At jba appreciate y’all coming out and uh talking to us so I think uh a lot of people are going to love to hear y story so appreciate yall yeah of course there we go pretty good huh not too bad yeah let make it happen how’s the how’s the
Mixer going for yall so far the the mixer yeah it’s been good yeah yeah yeah I heard I heard y’all like just kind of flew in and slept right no we like yeah oh man it was uh we had a layover and then we also took like two SE flights so Like that’s rough all right um three two one go okay yeah uh okay welcome back to akd mixer live stream interviews I got to come up with a more succinct name for this but uh we got the captains of sjsu Sahara I want your names how long youve
Been dancing with Sahara and um no we’ll start there we’ll start there okay I’m a lakeia this is my second year on Sahara and um I’m the Outreach Captain okay awesome awesome hi my name is RI I’m this is my third year on Sahara and I’m
One of the Coro captains this year wow okay cool so so you did one year dancing you jumped right into the captaincy rooll yeah that like um it was it’s been really different also like coming to this is our first comp so like yeah like it’s been kind of crazy because uh like
As a dancer like honestly don’t really get like the inside look into everything you just have to like show up to practice and then like come and perform but like as a captain like there’s been so much other work that we’ve been like doing plus the dancing so like we’ve
Been on like zero sleep and it’s like it’s been kind of insane but it’s been a fun experience yeah we’ll get a lot of sleep tonight what does an Outreach Captain do exactly um so basically I’m like the social media manager and like I like respond to all the DMs like I like
Make sure all the communication is happening I like make all the Flyers like design the stuff and yeah like we like worked on the merch too also with the production Captain as well and yeah okay awesome and you are the Coro Captain that’s pretty obvious what a
Coro Captain does right I mean I mean yeah we choreograph our set but um it is group work I’m one of three choreo captains so um it’s we mix all of the styles that we’re all good at and you know ultimately we come up with this 8
Minute set for everyone to perform and and it takes a lot of work it takes a lot of time and we’ll show it tomorrow on stage the world is excited to see so Tommy as Coro Captain right you have to Coro to a mix do you work with like the
DJs what’s that been like uh for you um not going to lie it’s been a it’s been a little rough We’ve Ended up sorry rough how uh somehow We’ve Ended up contacting more DJs than we have mixes like more than more than double and it’s just just
Been it’s been a process where we get left behind and like we we don’t get any response from any DJs and after we’ve signed a contract with them wow so it’s it’s been a rough time with with working with DJs and getting these mixes and it’s tough because we we fully didn’t
Have a full mix until probably like two weeks ago two weeks ago so so you as Coro Captain you could not Coro until two weeks ago for some of these mixes yes and it was a struggle for us as like exec us as Coro and for our team as well
They had to push through a lot wow these are DJs like that we contacted like at the beginning of summer so it’s just like kind of crazy that like there were DJs that dropped out like 6 months later when like you’re like expected to have a
Mix by then you know yeah and there’s just so few like other options to to go with you’re kind of stuck with these DJs that that you you sign a contract with and they don’t hold up their under the agreement right I mean how does that
Feel like as as dancers and people that rely on them drop the money and like then like it also feels like weird like with the professional relationship like trying to like ask for it back if like they didn’t give a certain like mix to you and like also like working with like
Critiques and stuff they’re not really always like super receptive which like I feel like she can tell you more about what are what are these what are these non-receptive critiques you don’t have to go too into detail if you don’t want to I’m just curious It’s just that like if we we had
So with one of the DJs that we were working with we had a vision and um we were really pushing for for it to work but before the DJ could even try it he said no like this is not going to work at all so we resorted to trying to make
Our own version of it and then we sent it to the DJs saying that like you know this is something that we have a vision for this is what we wanted to sound like and he ultimately made it work the way we wanted to and we honestly love that
Mix so it’s just that like if you had just put in the effort to to try what we had suggested like we could have had this done a long time ago yeah and I think a lot of teams you know I mean you this is your third year as a dancer
Maybe some younger captains they wouldn’t have had the knowledge to know like you can just push back a little bit you know maybe they wouldn’t feel confident enough to and I think that seriously stifles creativity in this circuit would you agree most definitely like there’s so little knowledge that
Spreads to newer captains that it’s hard for them to figure out how to work with like the circuit in general and I think it definitely helps having experience on the team and spreading that experience well I’m glad that you guys got the mix that you wanted to get let me ask you
Guys a little bit more about like kind of being on a co-ed team I mean co-ed teams are you know they’re it’s it’s hard to be co-ed these days with the with the all boys teams you know running through and winning so much so how does
It feel for yall like do you feel like you have to do even more to kind of to match the level of hype and Stage presence that you know some of these all guys teams have sometimes I feel like like like guys teams like you know like
They’re all like the same height and stuff so like they like like they like look you know like more the same but then with like our team it’s like someone’s like 411 and then someone else is like 6 feet tall so like our formations are a little like so it can
Be like probably like tough sometimes but um it’s also like super fun being on a COA team cuz like you get to like get super close to like guys in like usually a way that you normally wouldn’t like it’s like it’s been a really good experience yeah yeah yeah I think the
Culture definitely has like other fruits that are that are Beed yeah and bouncing off what she said like they’re all the same height so when you’re doing level changes it just it’s just convenient but here like we have someone who’s 411 who’s doing a full PA but the person
Who’s six like two can’t do so it’s a struggle especially like you have to hold up that all that energy and match like both both gender Energies so it takes a lot of work yeah yeah well we’re looking forward to seeing how you overcome some of those height differences and energy differences
Tomorrow um yeah what is like the number one segment you think people should watch out for tomorrow I’d say definitely our um battle and finale okay yeah battle and finale um okay wait give me a second I’m going to I really like our intro piece I
Think I think people will be like oh wow that’s cool and they’ll like the mix too yeah um and then also our contempt classical that’s something to look forward to yeah it sounds like every segment in this is something to look forward to uh well you get to see this
Out for the first time tomorrow uh never been before seen at a competition so uh the world is waiting so thanks so much for coming out this weekend yeah we’re looking forward to it appreciate yall there we go [Applause] Need [Applause] one okay [Applause] okay who not one who [Applause] that’s are we ready for the next [Applause] round next up we [Applause] have are you guys ready your sty is [Applause] [Applause] okay everyone ready everyone [Applause] ready [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] you [Applause] that was pr5 [Applause] I’m not be a close one that was a very close one okay if you think of won that [Applause] [Applause] one [Applause] can you get a drum roll can you get a drum roll come on that’s a real Dr Dr roll there you go [Applause] now how’s it going here this yeah maybe you should get in the middle of it and then you should do some R he does r too
I yeah I would have been down finest D we’re down oh my God I [Applause] remember hi okay next up we [Applause] have you guys okay another theme [Applause] [Applause] f [Applause] [Applause] 2 [Applause] [Applause] 1 [Applause] okay okay decide to Wi the winner who got who do you think this [Applause] te1 good TR good good okay we’re going to move on to sorry I talking yeah I has had a chance you haven’t done it this live watch where’s mik huh where’s it mik up uh like
Somewhere up here I don’t know I can hear you right now maybe you should go to all the teams that do like a I don’t want to get closer you got it don’t drop it is [Applause] Crazy [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] Fire [Applause] So because one of the teams not here right [Applause] now come [Applause] on no no no [Applause] Let’s go and your style is [Applause] go come got [Applause] got that’s so fun you go you go shut up going Charlie Hooper right now yo they’re ready for You 2 come [Applause] on kind don’t want to go to the other [Applause] [Applause] side All right so this is the microphone you hold it like this close pretty much yeah [Applause] cool you guys know what the drill is all right welcome back to the interviews uh we’ve got the captains of Georgia saes here um so we’re going to go down the line here can I get your
Name how long you’ve been Captain for how long you’ve been dancing your history all that my name my name is minu uh I’ve been a captain for one year and um I’m a junior at ug I major in computer science yeah I’m hello my name’s KNC and wait what I
Supposed to say how long you a captain and your background oh I’ve been oh I’ve been a captain my bad sorry um I’ve been a captain for like less than a year like I just started this year so this is my first year and then I danced last year as well
So give me how long yeah so just like a year and a half now yeah uh I’ve been on like since my freshman year so since like 2021 you’re a familiar face for fans um and then I’m also a senior majoring in [Applause] Mis yo what’s up my name is Manish um
I’m a junior at ug majoring in biology um I’ve I’ve been on saish since last year um so my sophomore year and this is my first year being captain and in general I’ve started dancing in my junior year of high school yeah awesome awesome good [ __ ] so um you
Guys are coming off of a really successful run last year I mean multiple placings made it to Legends you guys feel like there’s big expectations for the team are there big shoes to fill how do you all feel having to kind of carry this uh Legacy forward uh yeah so
Definitely like last year um that was our first time going to Legends and like placing was like crazy too um definitely it’s like a lot to like live up to that again go again and a lot of like pressure from like everyone but I think
Um like I think in the end what we’re trying to do is just like have fun I think I feel like we’re like a team that like likes to have fun entertain the audience so I think that’s just like what we’re trying to do again I mean it
Works you guys are very entertaining yeah thank you thank you so much you guys having fun on stage thank you um yeah definitely a lot of pressure um especially because I felt like we lost a lot of like seniors last year who like aren’t on the team anymore and like now
That they’re gone I want them to see us like still doing well like without them and everything so trying to like uphold um like the quality and standard but still trying to have fun yeah yeah basically just to Echo what me knew and KN said um but basically like
We did lose a lot of dancers but we’re still really excited to perform this year um I know the expectations are pretty high as far as like for what we set for ourselves um but I think we can still fill out those expectations and at
The end of the day we’re just here to have fun and kind of bond with the team so yeah having fun is like no judge can take fun away from you uh aan how’s our audio I know we’re getting a lot of Screams in the background okay great
Great great um what was I going to ask tell me about mixing this year I know last year you had uh I remember hearing the base doctor mix big fan of that tell us about the mix this year what’s it been like you guys have in-house DJs you work with other DJs
Um definitely like what we usually do is like we don’t really have an in-house DJ so we usually like try to network as much as possible get to know as many DJs as possible um we were able to get uh two mixes from juicy Dev he like he like
Mainly Works in um the Bunga circuit but yeah we were able to like talk to him and get like two amazing mixes so I think those are probably my personal favorite ones and um we got do you want to talk about um yeah also we got a hip-hop mix
From Kevin um so yeah and then also some mixes like from TK and everything but yeah we don’t have like uh anyone like in-house dejing right now so it was like kind of hard like the process and everything like piecing everything together and like also like specifically
Like what we want with each piece and everything yeah uh just to piggy off piggyback off of uh what they said um yeah like we don’t have an in-house DJ but I think that makes it more of like a kind of like a drive to like just
Network with other DJs and that’s always that’s always like really fun to kind of network with them because you know like it’s you always learn something new from whoever you network with so yeah that’s the biggest thing for us yeah that’s awesome do you feel like I mean you have
To choreograph to a mix right how how much time do you have or how much time have you had to choreograph to these mixes this year um at least for the Bunger mixes we got one of them in the summer so oh wow yeah so we were able
Yeah so definitely that was a lot of time the other Bunger mix we I had like around like um a like winter break to choreograph it so that was like it wasn’t too bad yeah and then are you ready for it um I think for our I typically choreograph
Hip-hop and I think for both of our Hip Hops we got them by the end of winter break so then I choreographed them I think within a week like a few days honestly um so I guess like we’ll see how works out but um I’m pretty like
Fast on my feet with choreography but um we were pretty specific about like our mixes as well so that’s why they took a long time too um sorry um so I don’t choreograph myself but um I do have a lot of faith in minu KN and our other choreographers
Um I’m really proud of like the work that they’ve done and such like a s short period of time especially for some of the other mixes um and I’m just really excited to see what we can put on stage all right burning question is sauses co-ed or is it all
Guys are you are you female or okay yeah we’re definitely Co oh yeah I hope love it yeah yeah there’s all this talk about like oh if you have girls on all guys team it’s co yeah okay Co I like it you know like why call it
Something that it’s not U Can I ask you guys like obviously it’s a Brown dance circuit right and like I used to dance so I know what it’s like to not be brown what’s y’s experience been like um okay so my freshman year I just had a
Lot of like brown friends and I was always interested in dance so I definitely try I Tred sausage for for the first time I think after the first practice I quit and then yeah and then brought you back so the captain um his name is Jack uh I taught he called me
And then he was like I feel like in college like you got to give things a chance you got to like experiment try new things so I definitely like gave saus like a chance and it really like went like it’s been like a very good experience very crazy traveling a lot so
It’s been very good yeah definitely eye opening I joined saw us through minu cuz uh we had a mutual friend and so he was Captain last year and he was like oh you should come and join this dance team and I was pretty open-minded about it and everything has been like wonderful like
All the different styles and everything like I I love dancing in general so I was really open to it um but yeah and then it was it was a little like daunting though especially cuz I was joining like a all guys team go well last year it was all guys and
Then I just like joined the team and I was like like wow like what did I get myself into but um everybody’s super like friendly and welcoming so I loved all of it yeah KN was actually like the first girl to join yeah yeah she like started
All yeah like not also just to like add on like no is like the reason like we kind of became coed like she came to tryouts and like she killed him we’re like dude like we kind of have to like switch gears now um but yeah I guess
Like joining saes for me is just like it was something that I really wanted to do um in high school like I got a little bit of exposure of like ddn in general um we did like our own cultural night um and like that was really fun to do and I
Was like I love like performing um and then watching like the streams and everything it was just like it was like man like I have to do this so I guess like that’s where I am now awesome all right well appreciate you guys coming out to the interview uh last question
What is everyone what should everyone look forward to seeing tomorrow in the set what’s like the number one thing you want people to be excited for um I mean definitely because I choreograph like both bung I cor both bung with I’m actually on a Bunger team
As well so yeah cool let’s go so I have some Bunger friends and like I choreograph both bungar with them so it’s very fun like doing that and so I definitely think you guys can look forward to the bungas I think we’re going to bring something very entertaining yeah wait what was the
Question again what’s a the for but in our set yeah yeah yeah oh um yeah I choreograph the hip-hop so so and I choreographed them in a pretty short amount of time but I’m really proud of them and I love hip-hop so like I hope everybody likes it so
Yeah um I think I think yeah I didn’t I didn’t choreograph anything but I think the biggest thing that I love about this team is our team chemistry um and I think that we’re able to display that like whenever we’re like representing the team like at mixer or like you know
Just walking around um but we’re also able to kind of display our chemistry when we’re on stage and that’s something that I’m really proud of and it makes me really happy to see like our team bonding like on and off stage okay well great answers all around make sure to
Watch uh sausage tomorrow and the rest of the season so thanks guys appreciate [Applause] yall [Applause] everyone the final okay team my voice is going away but I don’t want your voice a real loud screen okay all right right start SAR okay all who thinks [Applause] SAR [Applause] whoar there’s only one issue I see everyone scream so you guys have a
Winner in your minds I didn’t see anyone scream from this side get everything to choose okay it’s not just some bias Stu we need to figure it out what it’s right on you right [Applause] [Applause] now give us a second we need to decide Yeah of the finals for the dance competition isar [Applause] my very good friend has something to give you [Applause] all give next is a double no AME of the night no with this okay in the middle and [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] you [Applause] [Applause] I is this like your permanent job now wait does it auto track no that’s me oh your what last I didn’t watch it you should watch it me I Dream footage not going to lie my hands hurt respect respect so much respect no no no I trust hold up here as well there b are you 3% Oh wait I’m kind of lowy using this Jo all this kind of looks a little J oh dude don’t oh [ __ ] sorry sorry sorry he told me to he told me to that video she oh yo who we got here is this UNC chok’s Captain did y’all play twice oh she
Sucks sorry I’m so sorry hello everyone come [Applause] Come this is she’s one of the movies on teene you like her okay everyone let’s go back everyone come back everyone come back we have a FL game [Applause] plan yeah yeah I know I’m excited like we’ll keep in we’re going be working together aot trying to do some more Atlanta stuff too
Oh yeah atanta like a next Bas ster video in uh yeah you want to be like an extra in a Bas stalker video updated oh yeah abely actually if we go to ATL I think we have a lot of people who can dance yeah oh my God I’d be down to hit
Big Atlanta project then all these all right what’s popping y’all I’m here with the abot uh she was here last weekend on the uh Midwest tamaka mixer so how do you feel about Midwest tamaka I mean I think it’s safe to say feel pretty good um really why is that
Well we did win first place oh my God I remember that that was crazy and then you guys got some caption awards right yes we got best seg most dope segment best dancer and audience award wow that’s a lot of caption that’s a lot that was surprising very
Thankful very thankful say again very very thankful like extremely thankful very humble very humble um so you mixed your own set right are you the what happened I mean we were just talking with the other captains about how everyone contributes something Beyond just the dance in the Coro so tell us a
Little bit about that experience tell us about this flute thing too oh yeah yeah yeah so you’re making it seem like I mixed the whole set it was just two and a half segments sorry I was like bragging about you you know but it’s just cuz we had we did have
Some DJ issues so like basically the reason that I even mix anything was because I got frustrated with a DJ just made it did it myself figured it out um and then we have another segment it’s our content segment with the wings um we do have one of our team members actually
Playing the flute in the segment which is like crazy because also he’s a very very talented flst and singer so stay tuned for some more additions some vocal additions oh my God some vocals in the mix that’s going to go crazy uh so you said that working with some outside DJs
Was frustrating right what’s that experience been like cuz I know a lot of teams have kind of had that happen and there’s just kind of a shortage of DJs right now so what’s it been like on the dancer side of that so it’s been extremely frustrating and probably the only completely positive experience
We’ve had is with Mr ushin sish who’s behind the camera he set the standard and honestly if he wasn’t the first mix that we made then we probably would have let things slide with other DJs but because we saw how good it could be we weren’t going to
Let things slide after that we did run into several issues with DJs not being responsive not taking us seriously not respecting our time even when we sent contracts we even added Clauses of our own to contracts like okay if you don’t give us a mix within x amount of days
$10 deduction even then we would have to literally threaten them like literally be like we are not paying you anything for this mix if you do not send it right now and that’s when they responded but I know I’ve talked to some of the teams here the DJs have literally been like we
Value other teams over you so we’re going to prioritize them how how does that feel that’s crazy and let me just say it’s mostly girls teams or like maybe teams that aren’t as established in the circuit that are being treated this way so let’s try and change that
Yeah let’s try yeah that would be good to change yeah well I mean you said the the bar was set super high with with Astin what was that experience been like this is not a promo for him I’m just you know no it’s hella promo for him okay
This guy we met him he was like okay so give me a run down and we were like okay we said two words and he was like okay wait actually let me just do it myself he just laid out everything himself from pricing to process to he all his
Questions all our questions answered already it was like a 10-minute call and we were in love with him after um and you know when we started mixing with him he told us right away that the only thing he wanted to mix was something that had you know Southern or South
Influence and like he made us a hip-hop mix but in the background you can hear a lot of the influence like he put in some his own twist and it sounds [ __ ] phenomenal it’s our intro segment in our in our set um and throughout that
Process it took him a week to get us an entire mix and through that we had several drafts cycling through he was so responsive he also works a full-time job and he does videography on the side and he was so respectful throughout it all took our opinions added his own
Creativity absolute A+ Stellar experience a Ashwin ashwin’s the go I think I think everyone everyone can agree on that one so having a mix done so well for you must make it really easy to like choreograph and prepare for that in the set and I know like having delays
Can can make that harder what is it like you know having to work around someone else’s timeline um we understand that a lot of the DJs that we do work with are you know for example in med school doing full-time jobs however when we do have to work around their schedule to the
Point where you know they are literally being unresponsive and are not committing to a timeline that they set not even communicating delays like if you have a delay just communicate it then we aren’t able to choreograph in time so for example we had to teach three segments over winter break even
Though we had started working with these DJs at the beginning of the school year and like to us that’s that’s a lot of time that’s 4 months to get it right and if you can’t even just like give us a mix baby in four months like that’s just
Unacceptable it makes it really hard for us and our dancers the only reason that we’re able to do these segments is cuz they work on their own time to learn them but they shouldn’t have to we give them practice times throughout the week right they commit to it but then they’re
Doing additional work because these DJs can’t commit like that’s not on them so we’re really appreciative to have these kind of dancers but that shouldn’t be a thing that we have to deal with yeah well I think it’s great that you kind of stepped up and did some of the mixing I
Know you are downplaying it but it’s it’s something that I think helps a lot of teams is having an in-house DJ that someone that knows how this stuff works um so good job stepping up to the plate on that uh do you have a DJ name no it’s not dj
But but but but but yeah imagine that in the mix imagine yeah but like drop some drop some ideas my name is Dia but so not much you can work with but um something cool like embrace the chaos would be great yeah stay tuned put him in the comments
Let us know what deot should make her DJ name be um okay well I think that’s pretty much all we wanted to talk oh one more thing to say okay regardless of whatever bura DJs need to get it the [ __ ] together I need my punga DJs to get
It together because that’s also the hardest thing to mix right so like yes we can have in-house DJs for things but it is really hard to mix punga please get it together if you have skills in that please join the circuit please reach out okay thank you thank you Pablo
