Tonight we have the Montgomery County Public Schools historically black colleges and universities Fair we have over 2,000 people who are registered representatives from 40 HBCU this an exciting night about 2500 students on campus nothing like an HBCU you know just taking in the African-American culture and you know being somewhere
Where you celebrated all type of students from the African diaspora representative so it’s diverse in culture it’s diverse in perspectives and divers in experiences from uh the grieks from the step shows from we all know how HBCU homecomings are you know with the band uh uh football game and all it’s a
Family it’s it’s a family at HBC when you step on campus someone’s going to give you a smile someone’s going to give you a hello 20% of all African-American graduates they attended and and graduated from a HBCU there’s a lot of opportunities for that I think when it
Comes to thinking about college I think about what I’m doing now in school to help prepare for college make sure you maintain a certain GPA um you want to shoot above 3.0 so you can receive mer scholarships make sure you take higher classes like AP and IB courses and also being involved in
Extracurricular just because you’re awesome in the classroom we also like student leaders to be awesome outside the classroom a junior really should be exploring their career options and starting to try to get more specific in that so maybe as a junior I know I’m interested in math and science but what
Does that mean do I want to do computer science do I want to do biotechnology all I can say to a student really is explore explore explore that you’re taking advantage of opportunities where you’re going to college campuses you’re seeing what college life is like um you’re having an opportunity to attend
Events like tonight College fairs when I think of the decision in college money comes to mind um so thinking about how much a school costs especially if we’re going to be living on that campus I was able to learn the different ways that I can apply for scholarships and I learned
All the different ways to save money I’m really glad I’m here just to see all the um colleges that I would want to go to and I’m interested I have a lot of options but I’m going to try to sway towards HBCU more I just think that’s just more of a wise decision
