Hello, everyone! Welcome to our virtual START Go Beavs! Go Greek! fraternity and sorority life info session. We are so glad you are interested in exploring all that fraternities and sororities have to offer.
My name is Alex, I’m the Vice President of Recruitment for Panhellenic, and I’m joined by other student leaders in the Greek community. This session will give you an overview of the fraternity and sorority community, we will cover our 5 councils, our 6 shared values and how you can find a place to belong.
There are two additional videos offered where you can learn more details about specific joining processes. You can also go to our website oregonstate.edu/CFSL for lots of additional resources. Hello, my name is Jasmine. I’m the VP of Public Relations for the Collective Greek Council.
Fraternity and sorority life has a rich legacy at OSU; the community was established 138 years ago in 1882. 16 percent of OSU undergrad are Greek; which equals about 3,000 members. We currently have 45 chapters on campus and our community grows more each year.
We have 8 chapters with a cultural or multicultural interest, 4 chapters with academic interest, 28 chapters at are housed, and 2 chapters that were founded at OSU and are unique only to our campus. Our Community is diverse and thriving and we really believe there’s a place to belong for everyone.
My name is Stephanie and I’m the Executive Director of the Multicultural Greek Council We now want to share the six shared values of OSU fraternity and sorority life. Values are really all our foundation of all that we do. Since academics are the main reason we’re here Oregon State, scholarship is our first value.
Each chapter has a GPA requirement to join as well as to remain in good standing as a member. National statistics show that fraternity and sorority members have higher rates of graduation as compared to those non-involved students. Our next two values are philanthropy and community service.
Each chapter was founded on principle of service and focuses on giving back to the community last year we contributed over 70,000 hours of service and donated over 360,000 dollars to charity.
Next leadership, within a chapter there are a number of officer positions that members can hold as well as opportunities to get involved as a new member. And of course, Brotherhood and sisterhood are the cornerstone of Greek organizations. Having a group of people support you to make the college experience so much more rewarding
Our final and perhaps most important community value is inclusivity. We work to foster an inclusive environment by promoting a fair treatment of all members and to create opportunities for students of all backgrounds and identities to join our chapters. What’s good! I’m Neo and I’m the Interfraternity Council Vice President of Recruitment Marketing.
Now we know there are plenty of misconceptions about fraternity and sorority life that can be found in popular media and culture today. We’re not saying that we are perfect, however we hope that our members are working hard to fight many of these stereotypes.
Most of it information found in movies such as House Bunny, Animal House or Neighbors is not an accurate picture of being Greek. They tend to show a much-skewed vision of how we are today. We hope that you check out the chapters for yourself and make your own decision about joining.
What’s up everyone my name is Devan and I’m the representative of the National Pan-Hellenic Council. Now on to why you’re watching this video: how do you join our community?
We will provide a short introduction to each council and how to join. Don’t forget to check out either the fraternity or sorority video as well to get more details.
