1 verse3 it says praise be to the God and father of our Lord Jesus Christ in his great Mercy he has given us New Birth into a Living Hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead just imagine how it was on Friday the desperation that was there the
Apostles running away because they knew after Jesus those people will be coming to them there was desperation but on Easter Sunday or H Easter Sunday we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus so wherever there is a good Friday there is always an Easter Sunday and that’s why
We are here to tell you happy Easter Jesus Christ the resurrected one came and is giving us hope that there is life after death welcome Brothers into the studio and I ask you please to lead us in a word of Prayer we pray in the name of the father and of
The son and of the holy spirit amen God our Father I want to thank you for today want to thank you above all for having died for our sins we thank you because you’ve been source of hope you’ve been source of consolation and you’ve been source of love for each
And every one of us we ask you to bless us all and also ask your spirit to to be with us in this session is we’re going to share experiences the people of God that they may be for a goodness of the preaching of your word Lord we ask all
This through Christ Our Lord amen in the name of the father and of the son and of the SP amen thank you so much brother dear viewer the people in the studio the congregation is is not new they are celebrating 50 years of their existence in Kenya the Comon mission Aries and
Today we are blessed to have Comon Brothers Comon brothers so they are coming to tell us uh that bit of you know we know Comon fathers so it is good for you also to understand that there is comboni uh brothers and what do they do
But before we do that let me allow my guest to introduce themselves their names we know they are componist we know up to now we know the story of the they have been coming here every month so but the brothers in the studio I know
You do not know what their names are so I give them this chance to introduce thems and I begin from my left please introduce yourself okay thank you sister I’m Brother D from B and this is my third year in Comon brother Center the last stage of our formation as Comon
Brother okay welcome the name is jaming or J they are from a a French speaking country so you’ll have to understand that their pronunciation is different from what we are used to as far as English is concerned and on my right well thank you sister I’m James
Brother James OKO and I come from South Sudan I’m a first year in our house of formation of course our last stage of formation so I’m still my first year formation you are welcome thank you when you say OKO somebody will might think you are from kissy so they are okos in
South Sudan sure so I I I know one time there is a person who was saying bring us the brothers we want to know more about the brothers and maybe there are some people who didn’t know about the the presence of Comon Brothers some may know some may not know who are viewing
Us so brother James from South Sudan there is very rich history as far as Comon is concerned with South Sudan who are the Comon Brothers well thank you so much sister I’m really very privileged to have come from South Sudan it’s also well known as the L of
Koni yeah as most of us know Comon started from Sudan and also died in Sudan the whole view of Africa he really he felt that these are the people that he want to live with these are the people that he want to proclaim the word of God to and so he as
We all know that he lived in Sudan and so died in Sudan and so the the word of God if the word of God is alive today in the Sudan is because of s com M so it’s true that many people don’t know com Brothers but we com Mission Brothers of
The Sacred Heart of Jesus we are a mixed congregation we have the priest and then the brothers and then what do the brothers do so the Comon Brothers in collaboration with the Comon priest they are they live together in the communities M each and every community at least has got a brother and
A priest M so the roles of the brothers the brothers they play different roles in the in the communities and different responsibilities for example we run schools hospitals and administration so in the hospital and in schools those Ministries are nor run by Brothers okay of course there are
Situations whereby maybe due to lack of Brothers you see priest doing it but often time these Ministries are given to brothers and Priests they concentrate in their work of evangelization preaching the word of God preparing homies and so forth baptism and all this kind of things as brothers were are more into social
Dimension of people okay thank you brother James brother Jin how did you come to know the koni brothers in Benin I think he the first time you are hosting somebody from Benin yeah yeah so how did how did you come to know the koni missionaries from Benin from Benin
Okay thank you sister M yeah uh first of all I was in the north of B paraku mhm and the north of B in my town there is no Comon missionary mhm so it was after the secondary school I came in the soft of in konu m and there we have some
Comon missionary Community mhm and I was in my Parish when we received some novice who came to share about their experience about Comon M so it was through their sharing I encounter this beautiful life of koni and now when the desire because it is a late vocation it was in the
University that I started feeling the the call of God okay so when I started now to descend this vocation and become a Comon let I say father I realize that in the congregation they have two branches the father and the brothers so I have to decide either I will be a
Comon father or Comon brother so it it was during this discernment that I realized that as James was saying the brothers they were mostly in the field of human promotion mhm and taking into account also my background I’m a social worker okay and I’m always in the field
Of Social Service human promotion so for me live this beautiful work of social work and now say become a father and stay in the p uh with all those things that we know about the work of father I realize that I will not feel This Joy of the vocation
Because all vocation is about the joy if you are at the end if you are able to feel the joy it mean that you are at the right place so because of that in the process of the discernment yeah I decided to to become a Comon brother and
I’m very happy to to to to to be a compon brother I started by the posty and then now I’m here Kenya okay so in short what inspired you to become a Comon brother is this the same because you are a social worker and you saw them
Doing it or what inspired you to become inspir me first is koni MHM himself Comon MH and now after koni there is this will yeah to to be with people and help them in various area Education Health uh area uh justice and peace so my will was
To be in this field and and help people okay to show them this love of God because the brother as in the the the the gospel of Matthew we we realize that we are all the son of the same father so what I I’m able to do with my brother my
Bi biological brother I must be able to do with any people either they are from my country or another continent or another country so this will yeah to show that this love to express this love through the the social service that is the main yeah thing which uh uh help me
To to to to to decide to to become a brother okay thank you Jin brother Jin brother James the fact that you are from South Sudan there must be something that because there are Comon there are other missionaries who have brothers but in particular you decided to be a Comon
Brother what also inspired you to be part of that fraternity well thank you so much just regarding my vocation to Brotherhood yeah I have no idea about brother motherhood the beginning from my Parish where I grew up from and uh when first I started to be inspired I wanted
To be a priest and so I expressed a desire to my Paris priest and so for be a diis or something like that but there was a complication from the family my dad didn’t want but my mom wants me to become something like that so there was
A bit of conflict M and so that year I ped I couldn’t go to the to the Seminary Seminary M and so I waited when I complete high school again I started expressing that and there was a lot of issues my par Spirit refusing me to go
To the Das I wanted to go to and so yes I shared with one of my friend and then he told me look but if that’s the reason why can’t you be neutral no not son but maybe try to the religious life or something that so I was very happy I
Knew already comi okay but because of learning school yeah in in South Sudan he’s a great man it is is you know yeah that s and they highly celebrated so having known koni in primary school and so I was really fascinated by that and then I got the contact the vocation promoter
So I started talking and so he sent me more materials from Comon missionaries so I was started reading reading and so it’s still a desire becoming a priest was there so when I was admitted to the prop it’s the first stage of formation like to come and see so I applied as a
Priest candidate and so in the process of the formation I get to learn about the Comon brothers and so during that period after 6 months we have the Comm experience we s to the missions to to see the work the ground missionaries so it is from there
That I found Brothers concretely on the ground MH and so there was one brother in the community and for PRI so you could see in the morning everyone goes for his own duties the priest goes for the minister and the brother was running four schools and I could see the the
Enthusiasm in him the joy the the effort that is’s really trying to do to help the the people in that region MH and what I realized was that there was a shortage although he Tri very much but there was a shortage somewhere that he needs help you know in
Need help yeah and so it is from there that I got the view of mission brothers and I realize there are very much few not like PRI you know are very many okay so I started thinking but why can’t I also become like a brother know instead
Of PRI since there are many priest you know so I started really developing that Zeal in me to to say perhaps this is where God is calling me to to be very much close to people because pre much in the parishes and often time if people don’t approach them they
Hardly knows the reality of people you know but if you’re a teacher or you are a nurse or something like you are always close to people Vis I’m say don’t do that that so what really touches me a lot I say this is where I want to be this is
Where I want to be and so from there I started expressing again to my for when I went back to the post to the but then for brothers have already gone because our start in Uganda and the pr come to nari so my for told me look now it is
Aate why can’t you go to the Post lands that and then you pufy your vocation there so I came to Nair as a prand m and so from there first year I was very enthusiastic start in philosophy and so forth and uh second year I started again
I started a feeling I said I think this is not my calling to become a priest so I lost completely the motivation of becoming priest but the motivation of becoming Brotherhood is the one that was still burning so my for 2 years we’ve been J talking about that whether is a
Vocation not so after finally he I shared and accepted with my provinal I went to the no I came back as a Comon brother so I’m very happy a good beautiful thing is that Comon whe Comon PR or brother you are all together there one thing that unites us okay so there’s
No difference whole one okay thank you so much James and I am curious to know how is your dad now has he accepted you to be uh serving as a missionary or he’s still thinking about it well when I completed post land I went home for holiday and I shared with him
He was he said look I already accepted you I allowed you to go to the to the Seminary go if it’s really a calling God will show it to you if it’s not your call you come home I welcome you no problem they tell us like that if you
Feel it is not to come back home we have not so we wish you the best in your vocation journey and it’s good that for those who think that they they are brothers because they couldn’t make to be priest is a personal decision you have the choices here either to be a
Brother or to be a priest what does your inner desire tells you and go where you feel fulfilled uh brother JN how about you are there the what barriers from your parents about becoming a missionary of course because it was not easy mhm because of the family issue okay as
I said it is a late vocation I was in university they were expecting me to come out and start bringing even after the university I went to work in the psychiatric hospital for 2 years MH so when the the desire were becoming strong mhm I remember even to I remember that I
Even for my father through I didn’t even have this courage to to call him yeah because I know his behavior so I wrote a letter and I sent him he he didn’t refuse but I could I could I could see how through his comment in the family you can see that
He’s not really okay mhm my mother she’s very happy with that choice yeah and she always always pray for me and even my dad when I went for holy day in 2022 I can see how he’s also happy to have a religious also in his family okay
We thank God for your parents and we pray for them with the time they will come to understand they are not the only one uh it is not an easy thing to for them to accept for us to be in this life uh they they they think like they are
Getting lost but with time they come to realize what we are doing in the service of the vineyard of the Lord h brother Jin when somebody look at the brothers he might wonder what kind of how how is the life of a brother from morning to
Evening what do they do how how is their life yeah the the life of Brothers um almost the same with any religious only that we have our particularity so in the morning we have our morning prayer we have the daily mass we have the meditation as the Comon
Father one hour it could be in the morning or in the evening according to your own time table M and then we have the the the time of ministry the the service that you are undering in the The Province or in the country so you go to
To to serve people according to your background study or according to the needs of the local church M and then we have the community Gathering it could be social evening it could be community prayer so we have all those um community prayer that a religious supposed to do
Every day morning evening night prayer so in short that is the the what I could say about the life of a brother may day yeah thank you that’s their life and brother James somebody would wonder how how do you integrate prayer life and the apostolate because sometimes maybe
People may be seeing the brother is very busy in the school how how are you able as a brother to make sure that you integrate and you have balance as far as your life is concerned as a brother well thank you sister it is true that sometime one gets lost yeah looking
At the the ministry the services that we do and but our rule of life is very clear for example for instance we have the personal prayer and then we have the community prayer so first of all you need to to to keep this two the personal prayer and the community prayers and
Then the the apostate as you say yeah so how are we supposed to do we have one hour at least one what our say at least one hour personal prayer every day and then we have the community prayers so what we do is to make sure each and
Everyone you make sure you organize your time to pray this one hour prayer and also not to forget the community because it is a community that holds us together you can do whatever everything that you do good things outside but if you don’t you’re not able to keep the values of
The community you’re not able to keep the communion with your brothers in the community that that’s not right so what we do is each and every brother at least make sure that today I said my one hour prayer regardless of the the business that you are or something like that at
Least you find time at least you find time so for us the possibility is there to find time could be during the the break or whatever we do it okay we do it and of course to after doing everything you rush thinking also knowing that behind
We have a community I have my brothers behind mhm so also to join them afterward for evening prayer or morning prayer okay okay thank you it’s possible to work and pray you you balance your life it’s possible maybe there are those who are maybe even who are watching us
The lay people they wonder how do the religious manage to pray and at the same time they live their life and at the same time they are busy working but it is possible you just need to organize yourself have time for God imagine he he
Has given us 24 hours per day give him 10% of of the 24 hours and it is possible the the 10% of you calculate how many hours should you give to God it’s possible H because if we can be able to sit down and watch a movie for 3
4 hours why not have some time to be with God In Prayer it’s possible so you are watching our mission of Hope with I sister Esa MRI and in the studio today for those who are just watching us as from now we have the Comon Brothers represented by brother jasel and brother

With love and Humility Car Welcome back dear viewer before we went I said Comon fathers it is Comon brothers and when we were behind the camera there is something that brother James was telling me and I want him to talk about the comboni brothers se you say what you are telling me about the Comon brothers please
So in from the beginning of foundation when we were founded himself dedicated the brothers to St Joseph the Worker okay now we looked into we looked up to St Joseph as our Patron sent and we celebrate him every year so just like St Joseph most of the brothers they not known and if
I’m not many people know has got Brothers you know but we are there we there but we work in Silence of course not if you’re not King you will not realize because of our Simplicity our way of life the way we live mhm and it is something
That that attracts a lot of young people with that yeah and even when I was talking about the one hour prayer in silence as a brother even in the workshop if you are in chge of Workshop or in school in contemplation because we do work and contemplation that is the
Most the central part of our life work work while contemplating and so when you work while contemplating you do a good service you know a good service and so as our lives as Comon and Comon talk about us being like stones that are bured underground you shouldn’t be
Paring yourself to be see or something like but in silence for example we see this building but we don’t know what is holding this building these are rocks sure sure these are Stones things that holds the the house so he say you should be like that
Let people see the work that doing let people not see you you know let people so in silence we there there thank you thank you very much uh like St Joseph he did a lot but uh very little is told about St Joseph but as the scholars
Continue to learn who was Joseph and what was he doing they have come to realize the enormous responsibility that Joseph had in the life of Jesus and Mary so like he’s saying they are working in silence but doing great things this program is missions of Hope brother jine and maybe
I would wish to know what are some of the significant moment or experience that made you reaffirm your commitment to the Comon way of life and as far as the mission is concerned in giving hope especially as you said that you are a social trained person what is that that
One experience or two that made you feel this is my way of life and I am happy that I’m offering hope to the people of God okay thank you sister yeah yeah about the the past experience uh as I said uh I was also working in the psychiatric hospital mhm
I did some experience which was very which were very beautiful for me me mhm and we were many in the in the the hospital we have the the doctor the social assistant or worker we have the nurse we have even we were even three social workers in the
Hospital but my particular way to to deal with the the patient allow some of the the my colleague to to to ask me if this patient for example is one of my family is a relative is one of my relative because they see they saw how I was very close
To that person even though most of them were abandoned by their family they don’t know even the way to because the the the the mental sickness is very very terrible yeah so be close to those abandoned uh patient they they they realize that there is a
Different way to do the social work in the hospital compared to the other social worker so they were asking me this patient is a is one of your relative that helped me to to realize that the brother who is very beautiful you are able to to serve anybody as your
Own brother another experience was uh what with one of my patient also the way that I was defending the case uh push some of the the the the worker to to intimidate me to intimidate me but since I was focused on what I was doing later on they they came to realize
That no I was looking for the the goods of the the patient not the the good of those social those colleague who like to for example inste to to give the medicine to the patient they prefer to keep it in their office and sell it very expensive
So later on they realize the the impact of what I was doing and later on we become very close to each other so those experience helped me to to to to love more this choice of Brotherhood and M the Comon brother who are who is able
The brother who is able to to work in the tough situation mhm and who who doesn’t give up in front of difficulties in front of challenges thank you brother brother James uh I know there are different missions that you carry out as Comon Brothers maybe you could highlight some
Of these missions that you carry out that offer hopes and at the same time do you also have an experience that really touched you you can still remember and say mhm I think think I made the right choice to be a Comon brother yes we have different missions
And uh as we said in the beginning we have we run the the schools M high schools primary school colleges and then we have also technical institutes where we train young people those mostly with be less privilege you know those who cannot afford to go to maybe other private
Schools or other un ities but we train them with excellent skills and so it is from there that we meet the people also in the hospitals we have nurses we have doctors in media also we’re there W and then Social Work M we you remember we the in of social transformation in
Tangaza oh so there we also have a brother who running that program and so these are our Ministries particularly this is where we meet the people that is where we stay with people and so it is through there that you get to interact with young people you get to listen to
Them you get to to to to know their stories to me that is the most significant way of meeting the young people go through that also apate in the parishes we go in administration this are our Ministries that we do so the particular experience that personally have not yet gone to a
Mission because I’m still in the formation but time to time we go for Mission commit experiences but to me it is a beginning of mission yeah it’s the beginning of mission and up now I met so so many beautiful experiences encountering people at the moment I work I go to
Kangi for my community experience for my apostate okay and there I’m with the young people the youth and so intera we share with them the same when I was in Zambia in the parish running in the the center we have there for vocation promotion that is where I really I
Enjoyed very much interacting with young people sharing with them teaching them so it is something that reaffirmed really my vocation saying this is where you belong okay and not up to now not regreted at least I still find my joys in such Ministries and I’m happy for
That okay what what would you need to require what would you what is One require to have in order to convince the young people because sometimes they are not ready to open espe to open up especially men maybe now that you have dealt with the youth and in your short
Life that you have been with them what have you come to realize as one of the thing that you need to have in order for the young people to be open to you and ready to share their experiences well well as you said it’s true it’s true
Sister because from my experience men or boys they are a b reserve the preservative no yeah they will not they’re not very much open to share the experiences but unlike the the female the ladies the women they are very much open to share with that and
What I realize that this need really is patience as brother said and also to live an examplar life you know live an ex you don’t say what you don’t leave you know let them also see what you live and in order for them to trust you you
Know because trust is like that and when you’re able also to keep the the secrets whatever they share with you keep it confidential no so to me I see it as a way that young people will trust you you know yeah in order to work with them so
First to live an example life and that prayer pro life you know see that this person is also worth sh with you know share with or something like so to me these are the most important things thank you brother James brother J you know I understand that when you go to
The psychiatrist places those people who are the it’s like the the their enemies not very well they think you are the one who is mad and you are able to deal with them and to stay with them on the same note about the confidence and the young
People trusting in you and much that you have been trained on that area of social what can you add on what James has said okay thank you sister yeah yeah I think the the first encounter is very important yeah if you miss the first encounter uh they will never trust you
Mhm and the way that you you consider them them as a human being mhm I remember some of our patient they were a they were able to share some of their experience with me MH that they were but they were they were not having this courage to share the same experience
With the other doctor in the the hospital because they realized that I was considering yeah their their situation I was able to understand them I was very patient with them one for example was put in a we have some of the the our room when they are very
Aggressive when they are very aggressive we have to close them to lock the the the room yeah but I was able to to communicate with some of them and even bring some of them in my office to stay with me when it’s time now to to leave
The hospital they can go back into their to their room so it helped them to trust me MH and later on share some of the experience that they were going through and that uh experience help me and help also the center to know how to deal with their their issues so the first
Encounter is very important M and the way that you you treat them as a human being MH okay thank you very much is all a matter of trust and uh all those who are involved in carrying out social work uh Social Ministry uh the first impression very important how do you
Handle those people that you are dealing with much as you are going to give them hope do you have hope yourself that is the most important thing to what I’m getting from our brothers here in the studio uh the koni missionaries are celebrating uh 50 years of their
Existence and particularly in Kenya the Comon Brothers is the same it’s the same year you are celebrating we are one so it started the same time okay now what do you have to say about your your presence in Kenya and maybe your Elder Brothers what have
They said how was the journey how how is it even now as you serve today as Comon missionaries well so sister thank you so much when you say that like we are separate yeah yeah I’m sorry they are one when you come to for example when we
Are sign in the diis yes we go as comone missionaries so there’s not like brothers or something so we are comone mission and it is from the community that we know that this is a brother and the brother you you do this Ro this you
Do this together so we are one so I think you have done well that’s why people are not able to differentiate whether there was comone brothers and comone yeah we know they are comone priests but people had not realized it is true yeah so I think you are doing it
Very well you are one yeah okay so our presence in Kenya as this last year actually after now we still celebrating 50 years of our existence in Kenya I will say that we did great we did great and we thank God for that it is
Through the work of God of course it has not been easy and knowing very well I don’t know our brothers might have shared those who have come here who com are yeah the nature of our mission the situation we work in it is not easy it
Is really very tough yeah and when we celebrate something like 50 years it is really amazing and we give God than because many have given their lives for the mission so knowing very well the work of com missionaries there are so many parishes that we have left yeah having developed
The place the the small Christian communities and so forth when the parish is self-sufficient we live so we go further where the word of God has never reached you know okay yeah all people the diis is not able to redu to some situation or something so there we go
So through that we are able to to leave other parishes other communities and also one of our services like school education to make sure that also we educate the the the local community around give the other services like schools hospitals so these are services that we do now in m
These are the services that we do and people appreciate up to now and they happy with their presence there I think these are other few things that I can comment about and brother brother you can add something about the your presence 50 years is not a short time of
Your presence in Kenya and the impact as he has said is there and maybe you can add for those who are watching us maybe is their first time to hear about the Comon Brothers yes yes yeah 50 years of the presence of Kon missionary here in Kenya they
Have they they did a lot they did a lot M even though I was not around when I came here when you visit some some of the communities some parishes and you hear what people are saying about the comod missionary you can realize that they they did a lot there are some of
The parishes that the the they they were running but today they they live it to the to the to the Dows which mean that the the mission is growing and if you see some of the the the social area that you were they were working in some of the area like m
T you could see that yeah they are very close to people and they they they they are always there to work for their good work also in the field of so Justice and peace that’s are some of the things which help people which help the society to have a a a a
Transformative Citizen and I can see that one in in many area here in Kenya even with the social transformation school that we have here at tangaza you can see how they are really helping the the citizen of Kenya to to transform their society to transform their country
So of course it’s not enough but they have to to keep that good thing that they are doing okay thank you very much brothers and uh maybe there is young man who is watching us and he feels like now like James or jasn I am attracted to
Become a Comon brother what should one have or what are the qualifications sorry well just like any other religious Congregation of course it should be a Catholic baptized and confirmed that is one of our requirement and at least you should have finished high school in order to be admitted to
The post with good result also yeah to to be admitted to the university mhm basically these are the and to be accepted by your parents to say yes you want our son to join so these are the the other requirements that are needed and of course to be ready also to leave your
Country as a often time most of our time we spend out out of our countries and example you have like 3 years outside and then you go home for 3 months so to accept that reality that you not be in your country will be outside the country
Always outside and also to to be to face the challenges language for example learn the language of the local the local language first of all and the international language that official languages that we speak that speak different countries so this are the the things but of course it’s challenging
But Al it’s beautiful yeah it’s beautiful and yeah what I can say and our stages of formation we have the you first Aspire then you become one year and then you go to the postland 3 years or four years depending then you go to the noish MH so in the
No that’s why you become a com missionary okay because the PO you are prepared could be whatever field that you want to doation technical whatever okay yeah so from there po from you go to International brother Center where you meet different brothers from different countries different continent you’re together and then from
There you go to the missions okay thank you so much brothers your closing remark we are coming to the end of our program okay just to thank you sister and to thank also this channel of kushin TV yeah for the great work that you are doing here that is also another way to
Preach also the the the good news to to help people also to be aware about the challenges also the achievement of our church here in Kenya yeah and thank also our formators who allow us to come here to share our experience maybe the last things if someone would like to know
More about Kon brothers that is a the latest issue of new people Media Center M where I have this opportunity to share my experience it help them also to understand more about this journey and we have also the contact of the again up for the viewers to see it
And we have the the the the number of the vocation promoter of Kenya Uganda Ghana so they can easily uh write to them about their will to join the thank you is there a number you can shout out for somebody to contact you later if or social media if you don’t have
They will I think one time Father John gave out his number so if you want to follow the comone missionaries we have had some subsequent program about the Comon Miss and we shall continue to have them uh in the studio every month until we get to know who they are uh brother
James you concluding remark because time is chasing us yeah thank you sister for hosting us and also all your stuffs and also our viewers our listeners thank you so much for giving this time to listen to us we appreciate and yeah we are looking forward also to coming here next
Time and we’re very grateful thank you so much you are welcome thank you very much dear viewer those who are brothers comboni Brothers if you didn’t know that they are Comon Brothers now you know we are in the studio with brother James and brother Jing from the Comon brothers are
