On April 9, 2024, the Beta Delta chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon held its “Dunk a DKE” philanthropy event. In total, over $1,100 was raised for the fraternity’s philanthropy, the Family Promise of Athens.
The Family Promise of Athens is a non-profit that supports local families who are in danger of homelessness. Fraternity members work to raise money throughout the year for the organization.
“We were really excited to try something new, and for our first time doing it, it was wildly successful, said Brady Kay. “We are looking forward to expanding [this event] as we move into the coming year.”
During the fundraiser, fraternity brothers were put one at a time into a dunk tank. By purchasing a ticket, guests at the event were able to dunk the DKEs in support of the Family Promise of Athens. Tickets were $8 and included three rounds of four throws, giving participants a total of 12 attempts to dunk the brother in the tank.
The purchase of a ticket also included a choice of a burger or a hot dog, as well as popcorn and chips. To raise more money for the Family Promise of Athens, guests were given the opportunity to pay $3 for four more rounds of throws if they had used all of their previous ones.
85% of Delta Kappa Epsilon’s members attended and participated in the event. Additionally, a total of 230 tickets were sold before any tickets being bought at the door.
