The University of Georgia’s National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) took center stage during halftime at the UGA men’s basketball game against LSU on Wednesday, February 5. Their captivating performance honored the legacy and cultural impact of NPHC organizations.

As part of the university’s Black History Month celebrations, NPHC members united to showcase strolling—a unified performance that represents strength and power historically performed by Black fraternities and sororities. Chapters represented included Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.

Justin Olawole, a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., described the experience as incredibly special. “I had never stepped in front of that many people before, but it was amazing because the crowd was so interactive and showed us a lot of love,” he shared.

Chase Blackwell, a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., expressed his pride in sharing Black culture at a predominantly white institution. “The night was special not only because it was fun to connect with my peers, but also because we got to show people that NPHC is real and NPHC is here.”

For McKenna Ezekiel, a new initiate of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the performance was a dream come true. “I love how UGA continues to highlight Black history, and getting to perform for the first time alongside my sorors made it even more meaningful,” she said.

The University of Georgia continues to celebrate Black History Month with various events and initiatives aimed at educating, inspiring, and fostering community engagement. The NPHC halftime performance stands as a powerful testament to the cultural pride and contributions of Black students at UGA.

The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) is advised by the department of Greek Life. For more information, visit Student Affairs Greek Life’s website.
