Alumnus Profile – Jody Turnbow, Texas State ’90

From his early days growing up in West Texas, Jody Turnbow’s, Texas State ’90, path to greatness was built through the strong work ethic imparted by his family, specifically his father. Jody worked alongside his father, helping him run a successful full-service gas station. From his beginnings, the thirty-two members of his high school class could see that Jody was destined for making a ‘splash’ outside his small town.

After joining the Texas Mu Chapter of Phi Delta Theta at Texas State in 1985, Jody held several leadership positions including social chairman, warden and chapter president. In addition, he was active on campus and served as vice president of Order of Omega and was a member of the student organization acceptance committee. On campus he was known for his personal leadership style and ability to create community.

After earning his degree in 1990, Jody built a distinguished thirty-four-year career in the adult beverage industry, becoming a respected leader in sales and organizational development. He served as executive vice president and general manager of Gérard Bertrand Winery’s US operations, where he led numerous product launches and helped grow the company’s portfolio. His earlier leadership roles at E. & J. Gallo Winery and Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits cemented his reputation in the industry.   Today, Jody is the president of Shaken Beverage Co., a start-up where he leads strategic initiatives and operations alongside two of his Phi Delt chapter brothers who work in marketing and packaging. Together, they’re bringing new brands and products to the shelves; enhancing how consumers enjoy food and drink with a focus on sustainability and innovation.

The most satisfaction you will find in your career is seeing others you have helped succeed too.

“I look forward to leveraging my passion for the beverage industry and years of experience to inspire excellence and deliver value to our customers and stakeholders.  We are ready to literally shake up the beverage industry,” Turnbow shared.

Recently, Jody has also been a supporter of the reorganization of Texas Mu at Texas State. He is involved with many philanthropic organizations, such as the Lone Star chapter of Big Brother, Big Sister youth mentoring program, Habitat for Humanity, and for the past nineteen years has been a participant and fundraiser for the multi-day, over one hundred-mile Bike MS Round-Up Ride out of Dallas, Texas.

Fulfilled Potential

Jody’s story is a great example of Fulfilled Potential. Unlocking that greatness requires investing in educational excellence and cultivating a supportive community around each member, thereby revealing their full potential. Successes are celebrated. Mistakes are transformed into learning. Seeking to discover and develop new transferable skills and talents in the day to day.
