The COVID-19 pandemic has had a long and effective affect on the normal lives we were once use to. Having to adjust to this new way of life has been a daunting task for everyone, especially Greek life. With many schools either enforcing very strong restrictions, or just removing Greek life from campus in general, The normal way of life we have once known from Greek life is much different. With the recent spike of COVID-19 cases soaring throughout the country this current winter, some schools are requiring, once agin, a virtual spring recruitment season. While this is certainly out of the ordinary for basically everyone involved with Greek life, it is a reality we must live with and respect. Here are a some tips to consider in the event where spring recruitment is virtual for your organization thus year.
While this may be obvious to do even during a traditional spring recruitment season, in the event you are hosting a virtual event, having all your members show of various forms of custom greek apparel is important, even if it is through a video camera. Not only will this show how much your particular organization means to all active members, but it will also help out the potential new members who are hesitant about joining greek life to begin with by showing them the broad types of apparel they may not seem around campus. Make sure you wear unique apparel, such as hoodies, crewnecks, 1/4 zips, caps, beanies, t-shirts, jerseys, and so much more. This shows the potential new members some forms of apparel they can potentially have one day if they join. It gives them something to be excited for and have them imagining themselves in the apparel.
Display Greek Life Accessories
Considering a virtual event may have you on a video camera for an hour or two, make sure you have some accessories shown off during the event. Let’s say for instance a fraternity is having a video game night, while your playing Rocket League or Fortnite with the potential new members, make sure you are displaying something while on camera to show your gratitude and pride for your organization. Maybe some accessories such as banners, stickers, paddles, pins, jewelry,and much more. It’s the little things like this that matter the most, especially during trying times like we are currently in at the moment.
