Thousands of new workers will be needed in the city of detroit to get through election day on november third the divine nine historically black greek organizations are stepping up in fact to help find people to fill those positions and jim kirchner is live in midtown outside of the city election offices where
Preparations for november are very much in high gear jim that’s right after the primary they know the importance of getting this vote in november accurate legal and inclusive members of the divine nine fraternities and sororities are always involved in community service they know the importance of this election
And filling these jobs we want to make sure with the history of voter suppression and other illegal activities to uh to deter this population from voting we want to make sure that we get out and assure that the citizens of detroit that those votes are counted city clerk
Janice winfrey has been setting up satellite clerk’s offices for people to register to vote and request and return absentee ballots she’s expecting a record 200 000 absentee ballots with the presidential race she gave us this plea for help a couple of weeks ago we need individuals who are professional
Who are used to working who are used to following the written instruction as well as oral instruction the secretary of state is prepared to have 6 thousand poll workers ready for detroit for election day the new recruiting is for counting absentee ballots with high-speed machines at the tcf center
Those workers will be paid 500 for the day plus another 100 for hazard pay during covet 19. there were counting irregularities with 72 percent of absentee ballots during the primary in the city city clerk also said some poll workers did not show up because of safety concerns with coven 19.
