Funding Transformational Experiences
Over the past twenty-five years, the Phi Delta Theta Foundation has distributed more than $9 million in educational grants to support the Fraternity’s leadership programs, conferences, and educational initiatives. These grants have varied over time, reflecting the changing needs of Phi Delta Theta and the natural ebb and flow of philanthropic support in response to economic conditions and market performance.
While periods like 2010–2014 showed declines tied to broader economic downturns, recent years have seen a strong resurgence in grant making, driven by generous donors and a growing demand for educational programming.
Looking ahead, the Foundation is committed to dramatically expanding its impact. By the year 2030, we aim to provide $2 million annually in educational grants and scholarships, ensuring every undergraduate brother has access to the leadership development and academic support that defines the Phi Delt experience.

Accomplishments for 2025
Premier Leadership Programs: Evidence of Impact
Phi Delta Theta’s Premier Leadership Programs—Kleberg Emerging Leaders Institute, Shaffer Honors College of Leadership, Craig Scholars Program, and the McKenzie Family Presidents Leadership Conference—continue to demonstrate strong outcomes at scale, combining broad reach with measurable leadership development.
In 2025, the Fraternity hosted the largest in-person educational event in its history, with more than 1,100 undergraduate members participating in Kleberg across four distinct leadership tracks. Designed to meet members at different stages of their fraternity experience, Kleberg focused on practical leadership skills, chapter operations, and values-based decision-making.
The McKenzie Family Presidents Leadership Conference brought together 190 chapter presidents from across North America, focusing on resilience, leadership under pressure, and navigating the complex challenges inherent in leading a chapter. Through expert speakers, faculty-led small groups, and applied learning sessions, participants engaged deeply with both leadership theory and its real-world applications.
Measurable Leadership Growth
Both programs demonstrated clear, data-supported learning gains. At McKenzie PLC, 100 percent of the measured leadership competencies improved from pre- to post-conference assessments. The strongest areas of growth included adaptability in the face of adversity, understanding leadership influence, identifying behaviors that affect others, and applying the teachings of The Bond in leadership decisions.
Kleberg participants also showed significant gains across all four tracks—Emerging Leaders, Phikeia Education, Recruitment, and the Shaffer Honors College—along with increased confidence in leading chapters, improved understanding of leadership style, and stronger preparedness for officer responsibilities.
Strong Student Endorsement
Across all Kleberg tracks, 98 to 100 percent of attendees said they would recommend the program to future members. Similarly, 98 percent of McKenzie PLC participants would recommend the conference to future chapter presidents. McKenzie PLC earned a Net Promoter Score of 61, which leadership development benchmarks consider excellent to world-class.
Leadership Grounded in Values
Premier Leadership Programs intentionally integrate leadership skill-building with Phi Delta Theta’s values. Both Kleberg and McKenzie link practical competencies—such as communication, accountability, and problem-solving—to the principles of The Bond, reinforcing ethical leadership and responsibility to others.
Scholarship Support That Reaches Far Beyond the Numbers
Each year, the Phi Delta Theta Foundation’s Scholarship Program supports hundreds of members across North America. While the chart reflects the scope of that investment, the true impact of these scholarships is best understood through the voices of the men whose lives they help shape.
In 2025, scholarship recipients represented chapters, campuses, and academic paths as diverse as the Fraternity itself. Despite these differences, their stories reveal a shared truth: Foundation support offers more than financial assistance—it creates stability, belonging, and momentum at critical moments in a student’s journey.
Opening Doors for First-Generation Students
For first-generation college students, Foundation scholarships often arrive at a turning point. Without family experience navigating higher education, these students face unique pressures during their earliest years of membership.
Nathan Blackshire, a first-generation scholarship recipient at Middle Tennessee State University, reflected on the significance of that support, saying, “Having come from a small-town private school, to where I am today as a first-generation college student has meant a tremendous amount to me. Being able to have the opportunities I have been blessed with is something that I will forever be grateful for.”
Similarly, Norman Mascareno, a First-Generation and Whole Man Scholarship recipient at the University of New Mexico, shared that Phi Delta Theta offered more than financial help—it offered purpose. “I joined Phi Delta Theta because I was looking for more than a social experience. I wanted a brotherhood rooted in growth, accountability, and purpose.”
Supporting Leadership and Belonging at the Undergraduate Level
Undergraduate scholarship recipients consistently described how Foundation support allowed them to remain fully engaged as students, leaders, and brothers—especially during moments of doubt or transition.
Kyle Brown, a recipient of the Proud to Be a Missouri Phi Scholarship at the University of Missouri, recalled questioning whether he belonged in college before finding his place through Phi Delta Theta. “When I first arrived at Mizzou, I wasn’t a confident person . . . By the time my first semester was wrapping up, I was questioning if I belonged here. Since joining Phi Delt, I’ve made lifelong brothers, held leadership roles, and my life has never been fuller.”
Matthew Howell, a Harrison Presidents Scholarship recipient from the University of Akron, shared a similar experience of finding support during a difficult transition. “Phi Delta Theta quickly became the home on campus that I never realized I needed. I found a brotherhood that genuinely cared for and supported each other, which was monumental for me in such an uncertain time.”
Advancing Education and Service Beyond Graduation
Graduate Fellowship recipients spoke powerfully about what it means to receive continued support from Phi Delta Theta beyond the undergraduate years.
Reid Master, a Clyde Markel Graduate Fellowship recipient and medical student at Texas A&M University, described the impact clearly: “Phi Delta Theta has continued to support my education in medicine by awarding me the Clyde Markel Graduate Fellowship—their dedication to supporting their members is evident in my continued successes.”
Spencer Campbell, a graduate fellow from Ball State University, reflected on how the Fraternity shaped his confidence and direction, sharing, “I honestly don’t think I’d have the confidence I have today if I hadn’t been part of this organization.”
Investing in the Whole Man
Scholarships and leadership-based awards reflect the Foundation’s commitment to developing men of integrity and purpose.
Carlos “Alex” Ruiz, a Whole Man Scholarship recipient at Fresno State, summarized that impact by saying, “The Fraternity has provided me with a foundation of support, accountability, and brotherhood that has guided me through both challenges and successes.”
For Seth Kogutkiewicz, a Kenneth D. Hansen Grant recipient at St. Norbert College, that support was deeply personal during a time of loss. “This wasn’t the point that I decided to stay with Phi Delt—Phi Delt decided to stay with me.”
A Lifelong Return on Investment
Across scholarship types and academic stages, recipients consistently expressed a desire to give back.
As Nathan Blackshire shared, “I plan to donate back to the same scholarship that has allowed me to pursue my academic ambitions.”
Together, these numbers and stories reveal the true power of the Phi Delta Theta Foundation’s Scholarship Program: an investment not only in education, but in character, leadership, and lifelong brotherhood. Each scholarship strengthens a man, each man strengthens his chapter, and together they shape the future for Phi Delta Theta and the world.

The charts tell a powerful story: we’re already making meaningful progress—81 percent toward our scholarship goal and 67 percent toward grants and educational programs. But the truest story lives in the lives that will change when we fully achieve this vision: the first‑generation student who finally sees a degree within reach. The young leader who discovers confidence at a conference he never imagined attending. The brother who finds support at the moment he needs it most.
When we meet our $30 million goal, we ensure that these moments don’t happen by chance—they happen every year, for generations. This is the kind of impact that echoes.

At the Phi Delta Theta Foundation, we serve as a conduit that empowers Phis to honor their Phikeia Oath. As the Fraternity forges ahead, we remain steadfast in ensuring that no Phi is held back by a lack of resources. Through our bold Campaign 2030, we have set ambitious goals that not only reflect our commitment to excellence but also directly address the evolving needs of our members. Our vision includes:
- Becoming the highest-impact fraternity foundation.
- Educating 2,500 Phis annually through dynamic in-person events.
- Granting $2 million each year in scholarships and leadership programs.
- Awarding $250,000 annually in first-generation scholarships to new members.
- Ensuring anti-hazing education is available to high schools through Phi Delta Theta chapters.
- Raising $30 million and growing our endowment to $50 million.
- Establishing a sustainable Phi Delt Fund that generates $1 million annually.
