Historically African-American fraternity it was initially started as a literary and social studies Club organized at Cornell University in Ithaca New York the organization later evolved into a fraternity with a founding date of December 4th 1906 with a motto first of all Servants of all we shall transcend
All today the fraternity has almost 300 000 members and more than 750 College chapters and alumni chapters in Americans Africa Europe the Caribbean and Asia it is currently the largest predominantly African-American Intercollegiate fraternity and one of the 10 largest Intercollegiate fraternities in the nation in this exclusive black Excellence presentation
