Our founded for African Americans, as one council and we call it the Divine Nine, our five men’s organizations and also our four women’s sororities. The Omicron Omega chapter of Delta Sigma Theta sorority is actually the first black greek organization charted here at Texas A&M.
We are founded on scholarship, sisterhood and service. And to me that just means a lot because not only do I find my sisters within my organization, but through the Divine Nine I found my home away from home here. I’m part of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity incorporated
New Alpha Chapter. In Kappa Alpha our motto is achievement in every field of human endeavor which means everything. We do everything, we strive for we try to do the best that we can do. At A&M, we try to showcase that in different events and programs that we present. My favorite thing about
Greek fraternities is our tradition stepping and strolling. It’s really an expression of our pride and appreciation of our different fraternities and sororities. The uniqueness of those presentations specific to each sorority and each fraternity. They have their own strolls. They have their
Own steps and those steps really showcase their pride and what organization they’re a part of. Strolling is usually done in a line when we see them line up and they start doing their different strolls. Tt’s different from a step to where those are more mainly for performances. Our stepping and
Strolling it has a lot of history to it. A lot of our moves, a lot of our steps, a lot of our just signature movements that to others might just seem you know cool or pretty, to us it means a lot.
And those are moves that we also keep very sacred. Tt’s my duty to pass the torch and to keep passing that torch to those that come after me. It feels nostalgic. It feels amazing just to be able to step and stroll, because not many get that chance. And they pick very few,
They’re very selective, but they’re selected for a reason because they want each person that comes into one of these organizations to represent them to the best of their ability and to take pure pride and enjoy in what they’re doing.
