You know, we are continuing to celebrate Black history right here on T Tampa Bay. So tonight we are shining a light on a local chapter of a Divine Nine fraternity. They are guiding our Children Alpha Phi Alpha, the first intercollegiate Greek letter fraternity for black men. They’re giving history to our future

Maurice Taylor oversees educational activities for Men of tomorrow. A feeder program for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated. He guides youth through conversations and connections as they pursue college trades success. He meets with Black Bay area youth a couple times a month. It will grow and it will resonate with our young men. Many of those lessons are rooted in finances, etiquette and black history, our history and across the nation, we see it being modified uh minimized. Uh We were established in 1906. And ironically, a lot of the issues that
The founder face back then we still deal with today, voter intimidation, um, lack of resources for undeserved communities. We see rights being taken away. Students say they’ve also learned to hold each other accountable, like how to dress for success and, and how to get a job.
They’re making sure my grades are right. They’re making sure I’m not out too late. They’re making sure I’m on my P’s and Q’s in school, making sure that I gotta get my stuff done before. Anything else. Cornell Boyd the third has been involved with men of tomorrow for the last six years.
We’re talking about college. We’re talking about where we’re gonna go, what we wanna do, what things that we wanna aspire to be, everybody engaged in conversation. This network comes with support for just about anything these young men want to go after, just like the fraternity insists an opportunity to transcend. All. All right.
So check this out, Cornell will attend Morehouse College in Atlanta and the young men will go on a college tour in March, the rest of his buddies there. The Alphas could always use some help with donations. So we’ve done this, we’ve included a link to this story on the 10 Tampa Bay app.
