On March 14th, 2024, the University of Georgia’s Greek Life Office and Delta Gamma hosted the Morgan Delaney Memorial Blood Drive. Morgan Delaney, a member of Delta Gamma, passed away last fall after a battle with a rare form of cancer.
In partnership with the Blood Connection, the drive was held to support others undergoing treatment for conditions like Morgan’s. 149 units were collected at the drive. These donations have the potential to save up to 447 lives.
“On behalf of Delta Gamma, we want to thank everyone who contributed to the Morgan Delaney Memorial Blood Drive,” said Olivia Custer. “Your contributions will make an incredible impact on those in need. In memory of Morgan’s humor, kindness, and friendship we are immensely grateful for the opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation.”
For each donor, a $20 donation was made to the Winship Discovery Fund at the Winship Cancer Institute at Emory. Nearly $3,000 will be donated in Morgan’s memory.
Blood and platelet donations were very important to Morgan during her treatment, and her friends and family aim to raise awareness of the importance of these donations.
“I am so proud of our chapter for working together to remember Morgan Delaney in a way that will improve the lives of so many,” said Amelia McCorvey. “I am beyond grateful for the support and love we have received from students on this campus. Their generosity and eagerness to donate is inspiring. Their love will save lives.”
