Day of Giving Captain Resource Guide

Your Role as a Day of Giving Captain

You’ve been asked to serve as a Day of Giving captain because your voice and relationships matter.

This role isn’t about fundraising expertise—it’s about connection. A few personal texts, calls, or posts from you can move more people to act than any mass message ever could.

Your job is simple:

  • Reach out to a handful of brothers you know
  • Share why Phi Delt matters to you
  • Invite them to take part in Day of Giving

What You’re Being Asked to Do

  • Personally contact at least 10 brothers
  • Post and share on social media throughout the day
  • Encourage participation, not just large gifts

Why It Matters

Day of Giving supports the Phi Delt Fund—the annual fund that fuels scholarships, leadership programs, and educational opportunities across the Fraternity.

When more brothers give, even at small levels, it strengthens the Foundation’s ability to support the next generation.

Captain Incentive

The four captains who secure the most donors will receive the opportunity to direct Chapter Leadership Funds.

Top captains may:

  • Award one chapter $2,000
  • OR award two chapters $1,000 each

This gives you the ability to directly impact a chapter of your choosing through your outreach.

How the Chapter Challenge Works

Day of Giving is built around a chapter-based competition designed to reward engagement—not just size.

Divisions

  • Chapters are grouped based on alumni size
  • You compete against similar-sized chapters

Ways to Win

  • Most Dollars Raised
  • Highest Donor Participation

What Winning Chapters Earn

  • $2,000 Chapter Leadership Fund awards
  • Additional blitz challenges throughout the day

Key Reminder: It’s not about the size of the gift, it’s about showing up!

You are not limited to your own chapter. Every Phi you encourage to give counts toward your captain totals.

Ask donors to enter your name when prompted at checkout so you receive credit.

Suggested phrasing:

If you make a gift, there’s a spot where they ask if someone reached out—would you mind putting my name down?

Use these when explaining why Day of Giving matters:

  • Supports scholarships and leadership programs for undergraduate Phi Delts
  • $2 million in impact last year
  • Provides funding for leadership development and educational experiences–conferences like the Kleberg Emerging Leaders Institute and McKenzie Family Presidents Leadership Conference
  • Helps ensure opportunities exist for future generations
  • Safety net for challenges in higher education
  • Allows the Foundation to respond to real needs as they arise

Hey [Name], I’m helping rally [Chapter] for Day of Giving. Would you be open to making a small gift? Even $25 counts.

Quick favor: can you make a gift today for [Chapter]? It helps us climb in participation for the challenge.

Jumping in to try to get as many [Chapter] guys involved as possible. Mind joining me?

Subject: Quick ask for [Chapter]

Hi [Name],

I’m helping coordinate Day of Giving for [Chapter] and wanted to personally reach out.

The goal is simple: to get as many brothers involved as possible. A gift of any size counts toward participation.

Would you consider making a gift today?

Thanks,

[Your Name]

Hey [Name], I’m helping with Day of Giving for [Chapter]. Would you consider making a small gift today? It really comes down to participation, not size. Totally understand either way, but I wanted to make sure you had a chance to be part of it.

Today is Day of Giving for Phi Delta Theta. I’m supporting [Chapter]—and we’re trying to get as many brothers involved as possible.

A gift of any size helps us compete and supports scholarships and leadership programs.
