We’re continuing our series about the Historically Black sororities and fraternities known as the Divine Nine. And specifically, we’re taking a look at Delta Sigma Theta. That’s the sorority of our very own 10 news producer, Danielle Riley. We are an organization that prides itself on sisterhood scholarship service and social action.
The Sea of Red can’t be missed when the ladies of Delta Sigma theta step on the scene. Right now, the Knoxville Alumni chapter is preparing to make sure students get the education they deserve. Knoxville Alumni chapter. Over the last 10 years, we’ve given out over $100,000 worth of scholarships
And we want to continue that and actually level up so to speak, heavily active in the community. You can find Delta women everywhere, shoes for school, volunteering at rehabilitation centers and racing against cancer. We want the Knoxville community to walk alongside us to come and be seen at these public meetings and forums.
We want them to show up to vote just three months after its January 13th founding. In 1913, the women of Delta participated in the women’s suffrage march and after 111 years, the call to serve remains strong. We are an organization that is full of busy people, busy people like justice
Kanji Brown Jackson, Mayor Keisha Lance Bott Olympic, gold medalist Wilma Rudolph and Me Daniel o’reilly. That’s why we’re here. We’re here to serve with three chapters here in East Tennessee.
