Unified Finance: A Stronger Financial Foundation for Every Phi Delt Chapter
Phi Delta Theta expands its re:Members partnership, bringing Unified Finance to all chapters
A strong, transparent financial foundation is essential to the long-term health of every Phi Delta Theta chapter. When chapter finances run smoothly, members can focus on brotherhood and impact instead of paperwork and collections. To strengthen the financial foundation for all chapters, Phi Delta Theta and re:Members (provider of greekbill and myPhiDelt) are upgrading the Fraternity’s chapter financial management platform from greekbill to Unified Finance.
Unified Finance (formerly Billhighway) is a Phi Delt–tailored, fully integrated chapter financial platform accessed through myPhiDelt. It replaces the current “bring-your-own-bank” model by combining chapter banking, dues collection, expense management, budgeting, and tax filing in one place. Officer access is driven automatically by myPhiDelt roles, so treasurer and president transitions no longer require changing names on a local bank account—a long-standing pain point for chapters. It also delivers a much-requested solution for chapter philanthropy: chapters can collect payments and donations on a mobile device from anywhere and use built-in fundraising tools such as shareable donation links.
The platform also delivers a direct cost-saving benefit to chapter members: the per-member fee drops from $36 to $30 per year, and is paid in semester installments adjusted to the chapter’s roster. House corporations are included at no additional cost.
Why we’re making this change
In January 2026, the IRS issued new procedures governing nonprofit group exemptions—the first major rewrite of those rules in more than forty-five years. This matters because the Fraternity’s group exemption is what allows every US-based chapter to hold tax-exempt status as a chapter of Phi Delta Theta. At the same time, banks in both the United States and Canada have grown increasingly reluctant to open and maintain accounts for unincorporated nonprofits such as fraternity chapters. Unified Finance addresses both realities—and is simply a better platform, with direct support from General Headquarters, at a lower cost to members.
Adoption of Unified Finance
General Council policy requires all chapters and emerging chapters to use Unified Finance. Chapters must complete the sign-up process by the end of the 2026–27 academic year; see the timeline below.
What it means for members and families
Members can view their balances directly in myPhiDelt, and every invoice includes line-item detail, so members and families see exactly what each charge covers. Families can pay a member’s chapter dues and housing payments in one place, without creating a separate account—a frequent request we previously could not meet. Auto-pay options and flexible payment plans are also available, along with consistent procedures for mailing a payment.
What it means for chapter leaders
For treasurers and presidents, Unified Finance is financial and payment-collection software with stronger controls and less manual work. Key features include:
- a standardized chart of accounts that lets staff and volunteers coach every chapter consistently
- prepaid officer cards with set spending limits tied to the chart of accounts
- a bank account with access tied to myPhiDelt officer roles
- built-in safeguards that protect chapter funds
- bill pay for vendors and General Headquarters
- in-person payment collections and fundraising links
- tax filing or tax-status reinstatement directly in myPhiDelt
- automated invoicing and payment reminders to members, with late fees the chapter sets and the platform applies automatically
- real-time accounting reports, including budget-to-actual and accounts receivable summaries, ready for officer transitions and chapter advisory board review
Collections improve, too. Among the several thousand fraternity and sorority chapters already using Unified Finance, two-thirds of money owed is collected within ninety-six hours of invoicing.
Your chapter still sets its own budget and decides how its money is spent. Officers stay in control of day-to-day finances and retain full discretion to approve expenses and direct chapter funds within the budget your members approve.
Taxes and compliance
With the already-launched Tax Wizard in myPhiDelt, Unified Finance produces the financial records chapters need to maintain, or re-obtain, tax-exempt status and file required IRS returns on time. Within the Tax Wizard, chapters can work directly with accountants to file taxes or fix their revoked tax-exempt status at significantly discounted rates. Over time, chapters on the platform will be eligible to participate in a group filing through General Headquarters—saving each chapter the cost and time of preparing and filing its own return.
General Headquarters will be connecting early August with chapters that may have a revoked tax status or nearing revoked tax status to expedite their transition to Unified Finance and begin the next steps to apply for tax-exempt reinstatement with the Internal Revenue Service through the Tax Wizard.
What it means for house corporations
House corporations benefit from the same feature set and improvements. Members can pay chapter dues and housing charges in one place, and house corporations can receive funds directly. This allows the chapter and house corporation financial operations to remain separate, without any additional burdens on members. With the upcoming launch of the Properties Portal, house corporation leaders will be able to manage lease agreements, maintenance requests, rent, and expense management within myPhiDelt and Unified Finance.
Timeline and getting started
Approximately 85 percent of Phi Delt chapters already use greekbill and will have a seamless, provider-managed transition. Early sign-ups open in mid-August 2026, with chapters transitioning on a rolling basis throughout the 2026–27 academic year. Chapter support coordinators and other General Headquarters staff will reach out directly to chapters with revoked tax statuses, emerging chapters, and chapters that express interest. The goal is a successful transition in the fall semester.
In-person training sessions and sign-up support will be available at the 2026 Kleberg Emerging Leaders Institute and the 2027 McKenzie Family Presidents Leadership Conference.
If your chapter would like to ask questions before completing the sign-up form, or understand the exemption process, please contact John Fenner at chapteraccounting@phideltatheta.org.
Ready to get started? Please fill out this form to express your interest, and General Headquarters will reach out to pick a time that works for your chapter to walk you through the onboarding process and answer any questions.
